Good food, great patio area, shame about the plastic roof cover, which makes it unbearable in the blazing sun and you don't get any vitamin D! Smoking is allowed which is against regulations, with an area being totally covered. If one small area was uncovered for people who like the sun and who dont like inhaling smoke, it would be my favourite restaurant!

Me and my partner booked a table by the fire place in The Island which was our local on 29/02/2022 at 5pm. When we arrived we was warmly greeted by the female staff on sitting by the fire place looking to order our drinks and food I noticed each time I looked up 2 of the male staff who were sitting opposite us watching us for no unknown reason, one was on his laptop throughout which seemed odd. As we continued our evening my partner noticed the same in which she felt very uncomfortable like we did something wrong, We eventually ate our food and finished our evening but vowed to never come back as its not something a paying customer wants to be feeling. The service was good to start off with but then went down hill as when we finished our main we was expected to be offered the deserts menu in which we sat for 30 mins until the female staff came over by that time we were already annoyed so decided to leave. Even to leave we had to get up and go to the Bar in order for someone to get our attention before paying the bill. The menu seems to be the same each tine we go there, No Cocktails, Burger was uncooked as it was very pink inside and the food was overpriced. 2 people was 80 something pounds and they had the cheek to add 10pounds plus service charge. Its a shame its our local but we will not be returning or recommending to anyone ever again.

We went to the Island for Christmas lunch in the midst of the pandemic chaos. I’m sure they were a couple of team members down but the service was super friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and more than we could eat but they were happy to pack up the leftovers to take home. Great atmosphere, great service, great food and given it was Christmas Day, great value.

I had a burger, my friend had fish and chips, both were delicious, as was the sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset pudding with short bread. Nice, well run, good selection of drinks. Hope they do well, it was busy when I went Monday lunch time, and they obviously have regular customers, which is what I intend to become. Nice pub, great staff, definitely recommend.

What a terrible excuse for a restaurant. We ordered Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding. Meals arrived without Yorkshire pudding, no acknowledgement or apology, just told bluntly they were out of it. Roast looked like slices from a package, Very disappointing. No effort on the part of staff to compensate for lacking components of meal. They could not have cared less. Such a rip off!

This is a local gem for us. We have been coming here for years to watch the rugby and grab after work drinks. However this was the first time I had booked the island for a function. I planned a surprise birthday gathering for my boyfriend and the Island staff accommodated us wonderfully. We were seated downstairs which was intimate and quiet but was also reachable distance from the bar so (which is very important). We were looked after extremely well and will be booking future functions here. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

Overall I had a nice time. Our waitress/server was incredible she really tried her best to accommodate us and had the hard job of announcing that they had run out of roasts dinners by 4pm. I was pretty angry about this. The lady explained that the island were extremely busy with bookings but on a sunday to run out of roasts is pretty dire. The main I ended up having was pretty mediocre and i was reluctant to pay service charge because the quality was naff, however had it not been for the lovely lady serving us I wouldn't have. Probably wouldn't book a table here again although it's my local.

Regrettably the Island had overbooked, and as a result we were not seated in the upstairs dining area as we had been on numerous previous occasions but in the main pub area. This was not conducive to a family meal as there was lots of swearing going on from the regular pub goers and as they were extremely busy it took over 30 minutes before we were be served our meal. As I mentioned earlier we have dined at the island on previous occasions and really enjoyed the experience , but sadly on this occasion the Island fell below their previous high standards.

We have been to the island a few times. Normally the service is great and the food is excllent. This time, at 8pm we were the only ones and it was the 24th of December. We would have thought more people would go out. There wasn't a seasonal menu which was confusing as there was actually one. We were told we needed to pre-order and that wasn't clear on the website and on Toptable. None of the food seemed available and the service was awkward. Overall, the food was still great, but a disappointment to what we usually call a good gastro pub.

The Island used to be a really great place to eat but I was appalled by how much it has declined in the last year. No staff whatsoever for about the first ten minutes of our arrival so we ended up seating ourselves and finding our own menus. Given that the restaurant was virtually empty it was surprising how long it took to serve us. The food, when it eventually arrived, was barely warm, pretty much inedible and was laughably overpriced given the poor quality. The experience of eating at The Island was not good at all. Having said that, if you don't care about food or service and you would just like somewhere local to drink pleasant wine and eat fat chips (the only food we had that was hot and tasted good) then this could be the place for you. I would like to be able to give The Island the benefit of the doubt and think that they were having a bad day in the kitchen, but serving food that poor is inexcusable...

This is the first time we have been on a Sunday, and decided as it would probably be quite popular we booked for 4pm to ensure a table and a nice atmosphere. Sadly this backfired as when we came to order our food, everything we wanted was gone or unavailable. We were very disappointed by this as I would assume a popular place like this would have enough stock in especially on Mother's day. However I can say that although disappointed the service was great and personal, and I certainly wouldn't hesitate to go again. If choosing a Sunday though, I may book a little earlier! ;)

The Island is really local to me and I've been in and out a fair few times for drinks, which are normally good. We've had dinner here before and though the food was good, the service left a lot to be desired. I had some family round and thought we would give it a try again for Sunday lunch. We were so, so disappointed. Firstly, they tried to sit us at a table where someone was sitting (on the table with a baby in tow!). I asked if there was another table and luckily we were placed at the other end of the dining hall on a clean table. We were handed menus, and about 15 minutes later someone came to take our drinks order. After another 10 minutes we were given our drinks and asked 'Did the person who gave you the menus explain the food situation to you?' Of course no one had... it turned out they only had roast beef left out of the 5 roasts on offer. This was annoying as we had already been there over 30 minutes and ordered drinks. We managed to find something for everyone and the food was okay, with the exception of my partner who ordered the lambs neck, which was tiny. It came with no sides and compared to our gargantuan roasts, looked terrible! Luckily we had ordered lots of sides separately so my partner was given a decent meal, but we mentioned the portion size to our waiter who offered us a complimentary side. We waited about 45 minutes for our plates to be cleared or offered another round of drinks. We then waited 30 minutes before giving up on ordering dessert and asked for the bill. The service here is totally haphazard, there are crying babies everywhere. Luckily the food is decent but for the price, you can get better elsewhere locally on Chamberlayne Road.

My partner and I have recently moved to the area and are trying to find a good local "watering hole". The Island looks good but on our two recent visits (including tonight) we have been shocked by the number of children running around late in the evening - particularly tonight at 9 30 PM. They have a copy of their licence on the wall inside and 8 pm is supposed to be the cut off so they are clearly breaking the terms of their licence. I wonder whether the local council is aware of this? We have tried other pubs nearby and the Parlour and Masons win hands down so they will be getting our hard earned cash in future and we won't be coming back. Sad because the staff are friendly and it could be a great place

I usually avoid traditional Sunday lunches in pubs as I find that veg has been pre-cooked, meat isn't up to the standard that I would choose myself, and yorkshire puddings are a dreadful disappointment. Not so here, and my fears couldn't have been further from the truth. Perfect veg with a hint of honey on the parsnips and carrots, an enormous yet perfectly cooked yorkshire pudding, and then tender beef, a delicious chicken leg and some of the finest pork belly I've ever had. 4 adults (2 had pork belly, one had beef and ale stew, I had the chef's special triple meat) and 4 kids (4-6) had one of the best lunches out I can ever remember. We have visited The Island a few times over the summer months for a drink on the terrace in the sun and overall the experience has not been pleasant.First the good points – the bar staff are friendly, especially the barman from Liverpool, as are the pub regulars we have chatted to. The terrace is great during nice weather and it has heaters if it gets cold in the evening. Service is usually good and there is quite a wide range of beers available, though prices seem on the high side, more typical of central London. Now the bad points. Most times we have been the pub has been “child hell” and not a place for a quiet drink or a meal with friends. Children often run around screaming, riding scooters and bicycles around the terrace (sometimes even in the bar!), while their parents seem oblivious to their behaviour, sat well away from where their children are clearly annoying other people. This often went on quite late into the evening, after the 8 o’clock licence, and we have seen several people get fed up with the chaos and leave. The restaurant menu sounds interesting but the food is variable and sometimes quite disappointing. Prices are again high and there are better places to eat at in the area. Again, who wants to go out for a meal to a place with the atmosphere of a children’s playground?Overall, the pub seems badly managed (the manager is rarely seen). As well as not addressing the problem of the unruly children, things like empty glasses and rubbish piling up on tables and dirty toilets do not give a good impression. With the right approach the pub could be great, while still being family friendly as they seem to want. There are some families that use the pub that recognise it is for everyone – not just for children to run riot in!

We met up with family living in London for a get-together and a meal. The location was convenient for all of us, a short walk from the tube and easy to find. The outside area was attractive and clean, even though it was next to the street, and we enjoyed good service for our drinks before dinner. We moved to the raised indoor restaurant area for our meal, which was near enough to the main bar to share the 'pub' atmosphere but quiet enough to enjoy the food. The tables were well spaced-out, the service was good, and we all enjoyed our meals very much. The slow-cooked ham-hock with champ was particularly good, as was the steak. The price was very reasonable, too. Would definitely go there again!

Maybe we picked bad day, but we live locally and thought we would try The Island for a Wednesday lunch at 1.00 p.m. One other couple sitting outside (it wasn't very warm) so we went inside and were the only people there. Literally, as there didn't seem to be any staff there either. After waiting a few minutes, a member of staff materialised, didn't look in our direction and started polishing glasses. We picked a table and asked if "that was all right?" and she proceeded to wipe the table top perfunctorily and offered us one menu between us. She returned to her glasses and did not come back to our table. We waited ten minutes - ten minutes - and she didn't even look in our direction. We left. I'm sure it's lovely, but I am not encouraged to return.

We had a small family lunch (6 people) at The Island on the day that my sister-in-law got married. The service was great, the wait was as long as you would expect for freshly prepared food. Crayons and a picture to colour were provided for our 6 year old. There wasn't a lot of choice for vegetarians so I chose the gnocchi thinking it would be a bit blah; it was anything but. It had a lovely amount of garlic, gorgeous mushrooms and a great sauce. Absolutely delicious and I would definitely have it again (and again...). About £13Although my daughter had a choice from the children's menu she wanted the fish finger sandwich/roll. She said she had no intention of eating the accompanying mushy peas. When she tasted them she changed her mind (I checked too, they were the best mushy peas I have ever had, delicious and more squashed than mushy)Others had meat or fish and everyone else on the table also thoroughly enjoyed their meal. It was expensive for us but great food, great service and a pleasant atmosphere. We will go back.

The management/chef has changed recently and it's really improved. Eaten here several times, lunch and dinner foods been good. Great Sunday lunch, service is good. Nice quiet place for lunch during the week - not a good place for kids 'coz of the stairs (go to Gracelands, let them scream there). For a local spot - it's a treasure, the staff are friendly and efficient and the manager with long hair is always friendly and open to suggestions.

Been here before but it has definitely changed now. Prices have gone up for a start. Food is just ok. Don't know whether there has been change of management or otherwise. Very noisy and you can hear shouting from the drunks below in their dining area. NOT FOR FAMILY. What was irking was the fact that they charge 12.5% on top of total as discretionary service charge and then top it up with a £1 discretionary charity amount as donated by The Island - very cheeky as it doesn't say on their menu card about this charity thing and a put-off for me - don't mind donating £10 so long as it says so at the outset on the menu card. Owner please take note - this is not how you do business. You put a sub-total on your bill and then add with a note saying discretionary service charge and then ask customer whether they wan't to donate or not. As far visiting this restaurant again goes definitely NOT. I would have probably given 3 stars as 'it's ok' but the attitude of the management to charge customers charity stealth charge takes the biscuit for me. A note under the menu also says all service charge goes to pay staff - sorry you need to pay staff's salary off the price you charge for the food - service charge is for serving staff which is a 'tip' in other words.

6 of us booked dinner for the Saturday 14 Dec. The place was packed out but we were given the more wonderful table where we had our own space but could also survey all. Whilst the staff were very busy never once were we neglected. They were really brilliant. Whilst most other diners where there for their Christmas dinner we went a la carte and that did not faze the the chefs. Lorna had a delicious plaice dish and the rest of us had sublime burgers. We had a great night at a great, local venue with great food and great staff. Can't fault it. Try it for yourself.

No service, then when I realised I had left my wallet at home the manger abused me in front of the entire restaurant and my teenage son to the point of me crying for the first time in years. I waited for a friend to bring cash to try and diffuse the situation and when handing it to him and apologising yet AGAIN I was told not to bother since I had already ruined his Friday night????????!!!!!!!!!! Add to this consistently grumpy bar staff, extremely overpriced food which is not up to the standard of othe local similarly priced places such as the wonderful 'Paradise', and terrible service, I will never set foot in this place again. Having said all of the above the burger was fantastic but at 13 quid it should be.

Fantastic food with incredibly personal, friendly service. Any place that offers Pedro Ximenez with ice cream has to know what they're doing. Tucked away in deepest Kensal Rise, I've visited this place in all its incarnations, but this time they seem to have it bang on. Dropped in for a quick early dinner, ended up staying and grazing for hours.

The food here really was quite exceptional. A really good selection, with every dish we tried being cooked to perfection. I would not hesitate in recommending others to eat here. Service was always with a smile, and it seemed as though nothing was too much trouble. A really great afternoon spent eating and drinking - and needless to say, we will certainly return!

Went as a 4some to this rebranded pub/restaurant that I remember being built in the 1960s! Went on Sunday night and ordered from that particular menu and had bags of choice. Shared a Chargrilled veg, onion bhaji, pickled veg, pitta, raita and harissa dip- a fantastically tasty and interesting opener. Two had Roast Beef, Yorkshire pud and trimmings- huge portions and two opted for the Hake with lentils, artichoke and olive crushed potatoes.......loved 'em! Could only manage 1 desert and one Monbazillac Desert wine. Drank a very nice Mendoza Malbec, from a very decent wine list. Great service/friendly attentive staff and a nice roomy dining space upstairs. Prices fair- impressed and planning a return visit.

The chefs have changed and the food is very good. Events like the Quiz and other local stuff make it special and fun too.

Great night at the Island - the staff were particularly friendly, helpful and created an atmosphere you'd want to go back to. Food was interesting and nicely cooked; only lowlights were the slightly-too-loud music coming from the bar but that might be a sign of my age rather than a reflection on the restaurant!

I think The Island may have changed hands - the quality of the food certainly has. The portions were huge but roast dinners were padded out with over sized yorkshire puddings and I noticed terrine was served with doorstep slices of bread. I did not feel that the food was as good as previously and that it has now turned into standard pub fare. Great atmosphere, ambience and lovely staff but would not go there for the food.

I opted for the half rack, they were as huge as someone expected they might as they new the whole rack was gigantic. Pleasant calm outside front of house concrete garden with chairs. No candles or lighting other than a streetlight a fair distance away (far enough to not distinguish bone from rib meat). Luckily the light didn't matter as the meat fell from the bone. The salt on the other hand stuck to the thin french fries and were sickeningly salty.Had a pint of guinness with it, the option with "blackcurrant" I wouldn't recommend. The price was good, £6.50 for the ribs, chips, coleslaw and salad. Nicely presently and served by the polite French waitress.Decent enticing deals each day of the week.Loo, despite the window being open was foul chemical smelling and best avoided apart from to wash your hands from the sticky BBQ sauce (which when tried on chips...I asked for a separate pot - its rather sickly/sticky/too sweet but still works great with the ribs).

On the plus side, the food was fine, but then pitta bread, humus plus two other dips, a few olives and a couple of aubergine slices isn't exactly haute cuisine. So why on earth did it take an hour to come? Yes, an hour. What exactly was the chef doing, since the upstairs restaurant room was practically empty but for us? Soaking the chick peas? Grinding the flour? Marinating the olives? Also, we'd ordered desserts only for two small restless children, but they didn't arrive with our food - we had to remind the waiter and they took another 20 mins. Desperate service. If I hadn't been someone's guest, I would have been out of there.By the time we left, the atmosphere upstairs was unpleasant, loud and filling up with drunks. This is the worst place I've eaten in or out of London in many years. Needless to say, wild horses wouldn't drag me back there.

Plenty of kids running around this is a great place for a meal with the family. But those without kids don't be put off. Ihabe not children and was not bothered by them at all. Open, inviting, warm and spacious place for a relaxing afternoon drink. I had the ribs which to be honest were really good! Not smothered in marinade like most places you could actually taste the pork! I was sitting at the bar so had no problem with service. Honestly the only negative I can think of is that the food seems a little bit expensive. That said I enjoyed my meal so kinda think it was worth it!

This place serves food that looks nice, but doesnt have really taste, meat is tastless, burgers have chunks of grease you cant really chew. Wine list is good, the location is good, the experience is nice, but they need to improve the quality of their meats. The hand cut chips are tasty and the cheese platter is very good thought. It is pricey, so they could do way better than that.

🏆💎Delicious, One-of-a-kind Indo-Chinese restaurant with delicious menu items. Something for everyone here. This is a menu to get excited about! I had the basil pesto pasta- delicious! Corriander chilli chicken pizza was also delicious. Calzones are also available. I didn’t like the passion fruit cheesecake because the base was not crunchy or of a biscuit-texture. Overall though, the food was great! The Cupids strike mocktail (lychee) was really enjoyable! Service was good. If you’re looking to have the pizza there, then always call and check the oven is working at time of booking to avoid disappointment

Oct 2024 update: They have some new serving staff. Unfortunatly they aren't naturally attentive people and they don't appear to have had any training either. So be prepared for a bumpy ride. For example, there were three of us but they only gave us one menu. I had to ask for more menus multiple times before we got one each. They served bottled water but no glasses. This is a restaurant. Not McDonalds. I expect to be given glasses with my drinks at a restaurant. Again I had to ask multiple times before we got any glasses. Oh and I asked for a mixed salad with less onions as they have a habit of serving up half a large onion sliced up on a small plate of salad. How disappointed I was when the plate turned up with yep, half a large reg onion sliced up on a tiny plate of salad. It's things like this that really grate especially when there's a default 12.5% Service Charge added to the bill. If I get good service, I really don't mind leaving a generous tip. But with crappy service like this, I feel a tip is not deserved. And I shouldn't be forced to pay one. This takes away from an otherwise good meal as the food is usually great - especially if you ask for it to be made mild as they largely seem to get that bit right. Old review: Still mourning the loss of Jashan down the road, we thought we'd give this place a try. Initial impressions were positive on walking in. Some of the staff were smiling. I like happy people. They were also polite and efficient. Another big plus. Another positive were the explicitly mentioned healthier options on the menu. Although in practice the chickpea salad chaat I had as a starter still had some fried very fine sev on it, but excusable as I'd been for a run in the morning. I was initially a bit disappointed with the rajmah (kidney bean curry) as I found it too spicy. My wife thought the salt content was a bit on the high side too. So I ordered a mixed salad to go on the side. This instantly tamed the spiciness and made the meal infinitely more enjoyable. Be aware, the chapatis are very thin (as they should be) so go cold and hard quite quickly. Not a problem if you wolf them down swiftly. I also tried a bit of the hakka noodles my wife and daughter had ordered, and these were very nice. Good flavours and not strongly spiced. The staff were attentive and swiftly entertained additional requests. All in all an enjoyable treat. We'll definitely be back. Oh, it can be a bit cold near the door, so request a table further in during the cold winter months. Further observations after another visit more recently: The music's always a bit on the loud side. I liked the masala dosa (pictured) and mogo chips.
