Intoku Japanese & Sushi Restaurant Reading in Reading

Birthday Dinner. We had another lovely meal. Intoku is a great Japanese restaurant, the fish is so fresh, so many great items to choose from and what ever we choose the food is always fantastic. We were served by Kristine as we were previously and may we say that Kristine is lovely, so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and Kristine always has a lovely smile on her face, so nice to see someone so happy and obviously enjoying herself. Thankyou for everything tonight and we will see you soon. We can thoroughly recommend this restaurant, we have been three times and on each occasion the food and staff have been brilliant.

Two of us went for lunch on 7th May. There were only 3 tables and they already seemed overwhelmed. We waited more than 20 mins for food of which at least a few minutes we were sitting there waiting for a menu. After that 2 of our 3 dishes arrived, which we completed eating before realising they forgot our 3rd dish that took another 15 mins to arrive. The rice in both the poke bowl and don was not cooked correctly being of a hard or crunchy texture. Bit unfortunate when a place that specialises in Japanese cuisine can't cook rice. The final insult was a 12.5% service charge. Although the waitress was nice the overall service level was poor given that half the time the waitress was upstairs and then food was forgotten.

Welcomed warmly by Ate Christine. Had great options of food from sushi, rice bowls, starters and filipino sets. Didn’t want to miss the Bangsilog and Ube Yam milk tea. Lovely food! I would really like to try the Sisig next time.

My friend and I ate at intoku last Saturday and the foods did not disappoint. The halo-halo experience was very nostalgic, taking us back to our summers back in the Philippines. The staff were very accommodating as well. Will definitely go dine in again.

Dine in for 2nd time. We’ve ordered bangusilog, tocilog & chicken katsu curry. Food was superb, portion size is just the right amount and was served nicely plated. As for the dessert weve had vanilla & ube ice cream fondue which is delectable in taste. All staff were friendly and fast service. We will definetely comeback again.

Delicious sushi and poke bowl !

Just had a meal at Intoku, service & quality of sushi was excellent. Its a bit of a hidden gem on Chain St in central Reading. Well worth a visit for quality sushi & Japanese food.

Enjoyed a Sunday lunch with family. The team crew were all friendly and accommodating. Chef Ed, Kristine, Sujay and Vincent were amazing. Food was flavourful and reasonably priced. All the best!

Very tasty sushi and Japanese mains. Highly recommend the gyoza and nigiri. Impressive tea selection on the menu and the Fujiyama green tea is super tasty and a must try.

Great food and atmosphere. We were served by Christine and Sujay who were so lovely!

Me and my friends ordered different variations of food and we really enjoyed all of them from starters to mains to sushi to dessert (halo-halo and ube ice cream). I’d recommend trying the taco sushi - it’s a fushion of japanese and mexican. It’s my new favourite now! The service was excellent as well. They make sure you have all the food you ordered and check in if everything’s okay. Really appreciate the effort from their chef (Justine) who served the Chicken inasal to us as it was missed during the first batch of order. This shows how accommodating their staff are.

The best in Reading, quite expensive, but worth it.

I think this is my new favorite Japanese food restaurant in Reading! The food is amazing, great price and really good portions. Lovely Staff as well. Made us feel super welcome right from the moment we walked in.

My experience at this restaurant started off on a disappointing note but quickly turned around in the best way possible. I visited on Valentine’s Day and, unfortunately, waited over an hour for my food. Frustrated, hungry, and upset, I left with a poor impression of the restaurant. The manager, Elena, later explained that they had just hired new staff who weren’t prepared for the Valentine’s Day rush. The next day, I received an email offering 70% off my next meal. I requested a complimentary meal due to the experience, and they immediately agreed. I returned last weekend and had an incredible experience. Elena personally apologized and shared how difficult that day had been for her, as she had to witness so many disappointed customers. To make things right, they even offered me the Valentine’s menu so I could ‘re-live’ the experience properly—and I did. The food and drinks were exceptional, the staff was attentive and quick, and Elena went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time. Despite being so young, she manages the restaurant with incredible kindness and professionalism. What started as a frustrating experience turned into something truly memorable, thanks to their genuine care and dedication to customer satisfaction. I’ll never forget how much effort they put into making things right. Highly recommend!

The two ordered spicy seafood ramen, soft shell crab sushi roll and beer. The menu photos were not very attractive. I didn’t expect it to taste a bit unpleasant. Among them, the spicy seafood ramen was the worst, and the soft shell crab sushi roll was not very tasty. Beer was the most normal of the three. The price was not cheap and the taste was very bad, so I will not help or recommend it again.

Good gyoza, asahi and ramen. Sujay takes order accurately and delivers food timely.

I went with my family, which consists of three kids and thirteen adults. No one asked whether we had a reservation or not when we arrived at around 6pm. After a few minutes of waiting, we were asked to go upstairs and there were no other customers there. The manager, Elena, came over and instructed us to take a seat on one side. She didn't even greet us or at least smiled. We were very looking forward to our dinner because it was my niece's birthday. We believed that everything was fine until the manager approached us once more and instructed us to sit downstairs. I later learnt that she was upset and complained to your off-duty chef who was with us about bringing such a large party. She even asked him to assist with serving. That chef went to your restaurant as a paying customer so she should have treated him like one! We remained silent and still stayed even though she was rude and didn't even make us feel welcomed (really obvious by her gestures and facial expressions towards us). This manager clearly has poor customer service as she doesn't know how to handle this kind of situation. If we needed to have a reservation, then she could have told us to make a booking immediately. If they could not accommodate us at all, then she could have just told us, and we would leave, END OF STORY. However, treating us like we were not paying customers or did something bad and embarrassing your off-duty chef for bringing customers was totally unacceptable! Little did you know that there were people coming from far to your restaurant because that chef has been recommending it since he started working. The manager does not just need proper training regarding customer service but also needs to have employment law knowledge. Asking someone to work when he/she is off duty is a violation of employment rights as per the Employment Rights Act 1996. She passed in front of us and left without apologising or at least saying something (like other managers do). Although she ruined our night, we still had an amazing dinner because of the delicious food. Also, one of the chefs apologised, and all the other staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The food was delicious, especially the Kokoro Platter. The platter was enough for 3 people (around 9-10 sushi each) with 3 starters. As well as, Elena was very friendly and accommodating to our needs.

A wonderful experience eating here! I was greeted by a smile and a clear explanation of the menus available. I had the aubergine ramen which was beautifully presented and the aubergine could not have been better done! How to make vegetarians happy? Giving them a full bowl of tasty ramen, topped with smokey aubergine, comes near the top my list. <3 Full points for the friendly service and the wonderful dinner. Will definitely be back when I get a chance!

We were greeted nicely by the chef and server. They were very welcoming. But when the shift manager came down she was very unaccommodating and was rude to us. We were there to celebrate my niece’s birthday but got ruined by her rudeness. Her facial expression and body language was not for a customer service environment regardless if we were just walk-in customers or booking customers. Otherwise food and service from server and chefs were outstanding.

Had a nice and warm lunch at Intoku Reading today. And I would say the experience was very pleasant. The staffs were caring and polite. Christine, their front of house staff at that time, was very helpful and attentive. The food was done and served at a good time paced. Portions were quite big. If you are looking for a good Japanese place to go to in Reading, this restaurant is a good place to go to, a definite recommendation👌

Miso lamb chop ramen, noodles itself are so bad that Instant noodles can taste way better than this ramen noodles, what a waste for such good lamb chop, very well seasoned. Whatever it’s hand made or else, they gotta change this supply 🫡

Food was delicious and the staffs ( chefs & waiter) were very friendly and accommodating except for the Manager. It was my daughter's birthday and we decided to go there on the spot but she said we need a booking and we managed to book before ordering. The manager (she) was very rude and didn't even greet us when we visited the restaurant. We didn't feel welcomed at all. She told us to sit on one area upstairs but then she came back and told us to go and sit downstairs instead. When we were already waiting downstairs, she asked us if we wanted to sit upstairs. She didn't even consider that there were so many of us and we had kids before sending us downstairs when we could stay upstairs. We've been here many times but this was the first time we were treated like this.

We had a terrible experience when we arrived. The (lady) manager in charge wasn't accomodating and we found her very rude. She was not very welcoming and didn't even bother to ask us if we has a booking or not as we were a big party (14 adults and 3 kids). However, the chefs and the other staffs were very nice. The food was also superb! The only downside was that the (lady) manager ruined our night as we were there to celebrate my goddaughter's birthday. We hope she could get additional training for handling customers and hospitality.

Had the sushi , it was really good and worth the price. The donburi bowls tasted good but the quantity wasn’t much especially for the price.

Had such a great time at this Japanese restaurant! The sushi was incredible—especially the Blossom Roll, which was easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The spicy seafood ramen was next-level too, full of flavour and perfectly cooked. The service was amazing, and I’ve got to give a special shoutout to Elena, who made the night unforgettable. She surprised me with a birthday dessert and gave us the best recommendations. Thanks for being so lovely, Elena—¡un abrazo! If you’re after great food and a friendly atmosphere, this place is a must. Can’t wait to go back!
