So the currys are nice but pizza had no pineapple on for the hiwaian pizza i do feel like its very expensive for what you get chips are rubbish but the set meal extras are nice with the currys

The food was fine but nothing special. We collected an order and they forgot to hand us a pizza - thanks to crap reception, we were back at our holiday home by the time we realised. The staff member we spoke to was super unhelpful - they said that they couldn't refund it because we'd paid online (??) and wouldn't deliver it, so we had to make a further 20 min round trip to collect it. They gave us some free poppadoms, but it didn't really make up for the inconvenience.

Great service, very friendly waitress. Food was delicious. I loved the mushroom pakora. Portions were large, we couldn't manage all our meals. Music could have been a little more Indian, but overall was a great experience

Found this place after a drive into town and decided to eat. Service was really good however it was clear this is more a takeaway than a restaurant. Seated near kitchen and heard the dreaded microwave ping more than once! food was acceptable if a little bland and all arriving in microwaveable bowls which was concerning 😩 . Lucky I managed to see the cash only sign on the drive past before parking. No alcohol served but you can take your own in. Found it rather expensive given the quality on offer. . £25 each for a main and a few poppadoms to start. Won't be returning when I'm next in the area.

I had a mircha curry last night what a disappointment. Totally inedible as was the romantic josh and stale cardboard like peshawari nan. Last year these were the best curries we've ever eaten. This year after two mouthfuls had no choice but to bin the lot. Avoid at all costs in the hope they get their act together. Having said that lovely staff.

Probably the worst Indian I've ever been to. No wine menu, don't accept card, got the Indian chilly garlic, more like a pasta sauce. Avoid.

Went in to order take out. Lovely atmosphere, welcoming staff. Got home to find my meal was missing! Husband enjoyed his while I had plain boiled rice and an onion bhaji. Very disappointed having had a conversation about which curry to have. On top of that the nann bread was burnt. Definitely think twice before returning and doubt I’d recommend.

The little old lady was very nice and service very polite and prompt. We were only visiting coming through and thought it looked okay. For 2 people order came to 56 quid.b one popperdom starter and 2 curries, 2 soft drinks and 2 rice. It was okay but both our curries tasted the same…. Apart from the service I can’t see why else it would be something I visit again. Both expensive and average.

Food is very nice in here ..... and you get plenty of it. The place could do with a few nice touches ie better cutlery, ice and lemon in the water, some authentic asian decor/music etc Service could be better .... I like my food served from a trolley or trays not just brought out by waiter holding 2 plates .... just isn't professional in my view. On the whole we will return but maybe just for a takeaway for the time being

Updating from my previous review. I wanted to commend the owners for having redecorated the interior and vastly improved the ambience of the experience of dining in. The employment of additional staff has really helped service when the takeaway and restaurant are both busy The food is excellent - both in terms of taste and presentation - portion size is perfect, with very generous sized naans. It is still a BYO but that is absolutely no problem as they sell soft drinks plus are happy to provide water to the table. Well done India gate 😊👍 Previously we have purchased takeaways from here but decided to eat in for a change. The restaurant is basic in terms of décor, and the lighting is very bright. In terms of ambience some small changes would make a huge difference and would I am sure result in a much more pleasant and relaxing dining experience. The food is freshly cooked, tasty and well presented. As they are also cooking for a very busy takeaway service there are understandably occasional delays but nothing excessive. The table service was fine, though an additional member of staff would help at busy times - the young girl was managing both the tables plus takeaway orders and collection. Note this is a BYO if alcohol is wanted, they do however sell soft drinks. We asked for table water which was provided in a jug with plenty of ice. Overall a pleasant enough experience and we would return for a future visit.

It’s very difficult to describe this place. The food was nice, but not necessarily exactly as we’d expected the dishes. The staff was friendly. The prices are quite steep, especially compared to take-away. You pay a premium of 100% to be served. And even then they only accept cash, which is especially outdated since 2020 (and had been even before that). It’s fair to charge more for eating in, but this seemed a bit much.

Everything was really good. We had 3 vegetarian dishes and each had its own flavour... Pakoras delicious...

Takeaway was beautiful, fresh and good portions

We get takeaway from here often, but decided to eat in as our house is full of builders at the moment. The food was delicious, especially the shared starter. My Biryani was really good, and the service was excellent. We might try the lunchtime buffet next time we are in Newton Stewart.

Inedible main course. The lamb passanda was nothing like a passanda from any other Indian restaurant. It was basically a tomato soup with a sprinkling of almond flakes and just 5 small cubes of lamb in the whole dish. It was also bright red - and I do mean bright red. In addition, I specifically asked not to have fresh coriander in my food (I can't eat it) but my special rice came laced with coriander anyway leading me to suspect it had not been freshly prepared to order. So I ate the naan bread and the rather burnt chicken chaat, but the "lamb"/tomato soup dish and rice went straight in the bin. Finally, I ordered online for delivery and paid by card, only to receive a phone call from the restaurant asking for an extra £4.20 for delivery!

Served quickly by girl in tracksuit place looked clean . food arrived quickly I loved the large sharing starter. I did not eat my main as I did not like the taste. Personal preference that's all. Found this place to have no atmosphere and was expensive for what it was. But again personal preference.

Ordered a chicken chaat Chicken pathia Garlic naan Delivery was supposed to be 1 hour but turned up in 20 which to me should raise red flags My chicken chat turned out to be chicken wings! Not going to lie they tasted ok. Not what I ordered though! My chicken pathia: well most places Iv ever eaten from the Base gravy is chunky with onions! Bit of coriander and sometimes a lil chill to really get the sweet hot and sour taste! This was basically tomato soup with unseasoned chicken, and it’s RED as red can be!!!! The naan was ok, cooked good but the garlic was just a garlic butter. I expected chunks of garlic Would I order this again!!! NO Would I hold one mediocre takeaway as gospel NO Not the best Iv had but overall it filled my belly after a day of graft

Ordered a takeaway from this restaurant as it was recommended by the owner of the cottage we were staying in. Service was diabolical. Over two hours and eleven telephone calls later (!!) our food arrived, despite being told at least twice that it was "two minutes away". No apology and no discount for the delay and frustration experienced. Will NOT be using again and cannot recommend.

Whilst staying on holiday 25 minutes drive away, we fancied an Indian looked on line saw this place, and SO glad we did. We are both originally from Glasgow the curry capital of Scotland, there are many many great takeaways/restaurants there, however we would rank India Gate among the top 3 curries we have tried. We ordered Prawn puri(sweet and sour), Lamb tikka main, king prawn tandoori main with a Chasni sauce plus a naan. The Chasni sauce was the best we have ever tasted, so much so we returned 2 nights later for the same. Price is VERY reasonable, portion size is great, service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant is VERY clean. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending amd returning in the future. In fact we will probably do so for a takeaway from our home and hour and 20 minutes away.

The food was tasty and of decent quality. One of the naans was missed from the order but still paid for. Would probably order again if in the area but would have to check the order which can be a bit embarrassing.

One of the better Indian restaurants in D&G. Enjoyed the meal. Not a lot of lamb in the dish so will deduct one star.

Ordered at teatime for a later delivery for my birthday as we were here on holiday, got a call saying no delivery driver could we collect? So we did, very disappointing, skinny greasy tasting fries and the curry sauce tasted like that you would get from a jar, rice was the only pleasant part of the meal, we both left quite a lot.

Disgraceful service! Ordered a take away from here when we were up on holiday. It was a shambles. Food was meant to be delivered within an hour, we rang after one and a half hours to be told it wouldn't be long. We waited another half hour and still no food, we rang back to be told the same thing, that it wouldn't be long. We waited another half hour then rang to cancel the order as we had waited far to long. After cancelling they tried to deliver the order 3 hours after we first ordered and asked us if we would still accept the food with a £10 discount, we told then no as we had already ate and had rang and cancelled it. They left the food anyway even though we said we didn't want it. We tasted the food and in all honesty we were so glad that we had cancelled it! Food was of a very poor standard to the point were the massal sauce tasted like tomato soup and naan bread was very soggy as it was so under cooked, the chicken pakora were frozen chicken goujons. It all went in the bin. No refund was given and we contacted the owner who said he would refund, although 4 weeks later there is still no refund.

India Gate by name, India Gate by nature! Wedding Anniversary - 9 years married. Alison is a lover of Curry Houses from Birmingham to Glasgow. After walking past India Gate which was once known as Meenas we were handed a menu by the owner. Prices appeared quite reasonable with some meal deals available. We returned a couple of hours later and were put front of house. The venue does not have a license and we were told we could only be offered soft drinks. No problem in that. However, it soon became evident that meals were a good 30% more than the Takeaway menu. I guess the food must be good…. Our food arrived really quickly, only slightly slower than a McDonalds restaurant order. A Chicken Jaipuri and a Prawn Karahi. The prawns appeared more than shrimps and the sauce was quite sweet and not hot and spicy , although all the chicken appeared ok. This was all served in nice white school dinner plates. Just behind us, the two members of staff hurriedly dealt with Takeaway orders which clearly were not going through. They appeared annoyed the customers were phoning them with queries. They suggested payments had gone to Meenas. They then engaged in conversation about how some people had waited nearly 2 hours for orders the previous weekend and it was a shame the customers were annoyed. On leaving the venue we were given a bill of nearly £60 for two waters, two curries, rice and naan. We had in fact been charged for three curries, with two of the them being prawn Jaipuris (not what had been ordered) In summary, the worst wedding anniversary meal of 9 years of marriage. Food and service abysmal and very over priced! Also you have to pay in cash!

I am a regular customer at India gate and I went in to night and I stood there for 20 minutes waiting for my takeaway order to be taken and I finally get served and I order what I usually order which was 2 chicken dopiaza's and one portion of boiled rice and one portion of chips and I get told it will be ready in 30 minutes that's fine so I went back to collect and the chips were cold so I asked for hot chips and the staff member told me they were hot so I told him they were cold so he got me another portion they were luke warm and finally on the 3 rd attempt I got hot chips and I think it's the manager told me that our dopiaza's were in a different container to normal and that they were the same size as the old containers that they had ran out of and they weren't it was a smaller portion and the rice which used to be served in the container that I got my curry in was served in a bag total disaster

Having visited numerous times when it was called Meenas we had to throw our Chicken Tika Masala in the bin last night , the overpowering sweetness was just too much . As an avid B.i.r enthusiast I've never tasted anything so bad. Definitely not how a Tika Masala should be. The veg pakora was good but again the sweetness of the sauce they provided with it was horrendous. Peshawari Nan was ok but again over done with the sweetness.

First time had food from here it was lovely, ordered a takeaway recently though and was disappointed, Peshwari naan was lovely, but the 2 Chicken Dansac we ordered, sauce was very watery and chicken tough, staff friendly

My husbands birthday treat we had great service in restaurant. My husband comment was when he started eating garlic chilli lamb curry with mushroom rice that he told lady that he gone to heaven while he was eating. Hope when I get up there be same food. We had wonderful time. Looking forward going back next treat. Highly recommended to anyone. Great food, service.

Previously had 4 orders over the phone that we collected and each time our order was wrong. Food was never great but as it’s the closest Indian around we thought we’d persevere. Tonight we made our 5th order, so there could be no mistakes we thought we’d order online. Now credit where it’s due, 150 minutes later when our freezing cold food arrived the order was atleast correct. To add insult to injury the delivery driver said we should pay her an extra £10 on top of the delivery fee we’d already paid, because we live 7 miles away. The food, customer service and pure cheek of the delivery driver have officially made this our last ever bad experience here. Although it is the only Indian within 10 miles I’d much rather utilise the 2 and half hours it takes them and drive somewhere for a decent one.

Food was good but wrong orders came out then proper order we could not eat it and just took a take away however even though order very wrong no discount for the mistakes. I could not eat the dish they brought me not my thing so had some of my friends but will go back again

Food was excellent. Only used the delivery service, and although this took much longer than the suggested hour (it was Friday night and the weather was awful) it was definitely worth the wait.

New management since last time we visited (sin December 2020. Food was really not as good at all, biryani with cold potatoes , loads of food colouring, not so nice meat. Cash only.... Forgot things we ordered. Maybe a one off bad experience, but enough to put us off.

My wife and I had a tremendous meal here 2 weeks ago when having a break in Newton Stewart. I t was the best curry I've had in a long time. The staff were efficient and the manager was good craic. Will definitely be going back the next time we are in the area.

Arrived Newton Stewart late in the night and most restaurants were turning us away. Meena's Indian stayed open for us to come and collect the food before they shut. Such excellent and friendly service. Ingredients in the food tasted really fresh and food was a good price!

Just had the nicest vegetable korma and garlic naan that I've ever had. Prices very reasonable too. Can't recommend Meena's Fine Indian highly enough.

Staying at conifer lodges and just had a take away. Friendly and quick service. Food was absolutely amazing and reasonable price. Highly recommend

Pickle tray was 4 sauces, all red and sauces seems watered down. I chose a Pasanda for my main meal - it wasn't like any Pasanda I have had before; it was also red and more spicy than it should have been for a mild dish. Hubby's meal looked better and he enjoyed it. We ordered a peshwari naan which also had a red filling and was far too sweet with not much else about it. Service was friendly but I felt the whole place needed a good clean (chandelier!) and I wished we had gone elsewhere.

Great curry I'd recommend the chicken tika little bit expensive but you get what you pay for its not licensed so rake your own wine or beer great service RECOMMEND

Wow, what can I say about the restaurant and the food that many haven’t already? It’s located in such a beautiful setting surrounded by nature. The food was fantastic and no matter what we order it hits the spot. The surprise starter took our heart away.The staff at Meena's specially Jyoti and the owner were so polite and very welcoming. I’d recommend this to anyone that wants to have an experience that’s a little more than just going to a restaurant! Never had this delicious Saag Paneer ever in UK.Hats off to the chef and team to make our trip so memorable. Good wishes Mr and Mrs Sachin Sharma

Only doing takeaways when we went in early October 2020. Food was pleasant if rather greasy. Only accepted cash which, given how most people, are using cards and therefore don't carry much cash, was a bit inconvénient. We don't live locally but if we did this place wouldn't be high on the list for a return visit.

Booked via website recieved confirmation via website. Drove 20 miles to find it closed rang them and they said they were closed. No explanation no apology will avoid in future if that unreliable.

Ordered food to be delivered to hotel we were staying at. Order placed at 8pm and we received our meals at 10pm! We called more than once to chase up our order and was told each time that it would be only 5 minutes. So they are quite prepared to lie to customers. The food was average at best.

This place is so good. Holiday regularly in the area and the food here is superb. The Zalfreezi is fantastic. Had both table service and takeaways and can't fault either.
