India Gate in Belfast

The best Indian I’ve ever eaten. Recommend highly for delicious flavours, went 2 nights in a row.

Classic Indian food is served here at this popular destination. Conveniently located halfway between Ulster Museum and City Hall if you’re on foot. As I entered, I asked the manager if the food was Bangladeshi or Indian. The reply was North Indian. It was only 6 pm when I was seated right at the front of the restaurant adjacent to the main road. I barely had time to people watch till I was given a courtesy popadom and the traditional sauces to accompany it. I ordered a bottle of mineral water, mushroom rice and the hottest meal on the menu. Ten to fifteen minutes later I am served a chicken vindaloo. I’ve had many over the years. Usually fluctuate between a nagga, chicken madras or a vindaloo. This was one of the hottest I’d ever tasted. I had to have two bottles of water!! The mushroom rice was the best I’ve ever had. Fantastic and I’ve been eating curries over forty years. The staff are dressed in traditional black, whilst manager is smart casual. All are courteous, engaging and very professional. The waiter who collected my plate said I did very well to finish as most don’t seem to manage. I had kulfi pistachio ice cream for dessert to cool me down. Highly recommended and a well deserved five stars.

Late. waited 1 hour and 45 minutes. Then they gaslight you, tell you it is your fault you didn't order after 8.

I ordered my food just after 5 and it said that it would be here at 18.59 and it didn't turn up till 19.26 and the food was cols I phone the shop and told them they said that they would send a new one out but I had t go out and I said not to send it again, they just sent a new own out but I was not in with the door camera and he said could I come bk to the house to take it I told him before not to send it but he did I also told him I wouldn't ordering if you order from this Indian shop don't

Superb Indian best curry in area but from outside it looks a bit rundown. We all thought it was incredible and my old friend who was a bit confused argued with the price and they were very kind. Inside it’s luxurious.

The best Indian food I've ever eaten, and the next best wasn't even close. I had the traditional Indian curry, but we all got something different and tried each other's food-- it was all just as good as the next. The staff treated us very well, and the restaurant was clean and lit very nicely. I'd eat here every week if I were local.

One of the more authentic tasting Indian restaurants in Belfast.

Indian food is my favorite so when visiting Belfast and seeing this around the corner from where I was staying I definitely had to walk over. Very good. The chutney was delicious and the garlic naan was perfect!

This restaurant is awesome (& delicious). Am in Belfast from Canada for 1 night as part of a UK, Scotland, Ireland & Northern Ireland trip. This was the best meal that we had since leaving home. We really enjoy Indian food but it is not something we try normally in restaurants we do not know. We are so glad that we went to India Gate. Food is made from scratch. If you have a chance, give yourself a treat and visit & enjoy! Our server was fantastic as well Thank you!

An all round excellent experience. Very good food and friendly staff. Not hurried out when you had finished your meal.

been coming to this place for years now & each time it's always perfect, the food quality is amazing, portion sizes are good! staff are very welcoming & attentive & it's a nice relaxed environment, 100% the nicest Indian in Belfast for me, 10/10 havnt tried all the dishes but anything I have tried has been amazing.

We were in search of a restaurant after flying into Belfast late on a Friday evening. We weren't disappointed. The food and service here was great. A great curry house.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Indian Gateway. A totally different culture with the locals providing a friendly service

Shout out to the shared tapas beautiful. Chicken madras waa so tender and hot, veey tasty indian the saag paneer was tasty too. And with such a decent percentage off this meal felt like a steal. Yummy

Getting takeaways from India Gate for about 8 years now and this time decided to go and check the place for the first time as we found incredible offer on Groupon app, no need to elaborate on the quality of the food as it's amazing! Fresh and authentic (not like other Indian restaurants that are using processed products) every single dish that'll be prepped just for you. This place is a must visit if you're in the need for Indian food.

This restaurant is really missing out on the custom they should be getting, because from the outside it looks like the last place you'd want to go into - but once inside, it's absolutely delightful!! Food, service, and atmosphere were all great - I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone 👌👍

Got a Rogan Josh and Chicken Madras, they were both very bland and disappointing. Not sure what happened to India Gate, they used to be our favourite Indian in Belfast.

We were looking for an Indian restaurant near to where we were staying and stumbled across India Gate. Plenty of tables inside. Friendly staff, not overbearing. Good variety of dishes on the menu. There were locals and visitors alike and a small group celebrating a 50th birthday. I've since seen them on Groupon online so if you're lucky you could get a discount code! We thought the prices were reasonable and there were options on the menu where the price included rice.

Food was very good. However, halfway into my meal, when chewing, something stuck between my teeth. On pulling it out, it was a very thin long curly piece of metal about 3 cm long. It looked as if it came from a metal dish cleaning scrubber. Probably just a freak occurrence but it spoiled my dinner thinking about it.

We spent 3 nights in Belfast and walked past the restaurant back to our hotel on Sunday, our first night. The place was heaving and having already eaten that night thought we might have a look at it the following night. We subsequently looked at the menu and thought we'd give it a go. Started with a couple of Poppadoms and the spicy dips were great. Service was attentive but not in your face. Malbec wine not overpriced for a dinner out. Ambience was good for a Monday night and decor / tabling / seating all good. We had a couple of main courses with Rice and Naans which were all excellent. My wife couldn't finish the mixed grill as there was so much there but I did finish every little bit of my Kathmandu Special Curry. The following night we were back in the Cathedral Quarter deciding on our evening meal and after considering many options decided to go back to India Gate as we'd enjoyed the previous evenings meal so much. This was to be the first time we'd ever had two Indian meals in successive nights. We both chose different meals and naans and again were absolutely delighted with our choices. The quality of the food was exceptional again. As somebody that has given few reviews then for me to do so means we had a great overall experience. Can't recommend this place highly enough.....

Ordered from here a few times now , and honestly can say this is nicest Indian food I have ever tried , 12/10 , new favourite. The paneer is unbelievable, and the chicken tikka masala is unreal. Definitely would recommend the naan also!

Best Indian meal we have ever had. Brought my sister and husband for my sisters 60th birthday. We all had a fabulous meal.amidst a lovely ambiance and pleasant attentive staff. Accommodated keeping the cake earlier in the day and presenting it later. Am highly recommending this wonderful find to all my friends. Second great experience I might add. Entertained Australian visitors in January and they loved it too. A great find. If you haven't tried it you are really missing out. Thank you. Martina

After I had Biryani from that, I got diarrhea and vomiting, even I had gastroenteritis! The most terrible Indian food I had ever had. Updated: I told my concern to the manager and he treated me rudely.

Don't let the exterior of the building put you off. This is by far the best Indian food in Belfast.

The service wasn’t great the waiter stabbed me with a fork and just wasn’t a great overall experience… I also found a hair in my food which was extremely unsanitary…The food was not great and was £21 . Wouldn’t recommend this Indian at all also there was a birthday there so atleast someone had a good time.

Before I got back to my hotel the restaurant called to let me know they had forgotten an item. They sent someone with the missing item. That alone deserves five stars. On top of this the food is delicious. And they threw in an order of Onion Bhaji when they brought the missing item!

So I am writing this review for the benefit and knowledge of other people wanting to try authentic Indian food in Belfast. Firstly, it is quite unreasonable to demand EACH person to order £20 worth of food. Shifting over to the food taste, it is definitely NOT an authentic Indian restaurant, the name being quite deceiving. There are definitely much better options around here, both in terms of taste, pricing and service. Not at all a memorable experience.

Fancied a curry so went from the recommendations from Trip Advisor. Food did not disappoint. Amazing. Highly recommended. Great service.
