India Gate in Belfast

This Indian restaurant has a modern design and has very friendly and hospitable staff. We ended up here via Groupon. We had a 2 course menu and it was delicious. One of the sauces beforehand was really spicy and even our Indian waitress said that she found it spicy herself. All in all we had a delicious meal and a nice evening.

The food here seems expensive wrt to quality of food, even though it was an indian restaurant but the pallete of food seems to be bland. The service is great.

Warm welcome into a very modern presentable restaurant. Good menu choices with rice included. The food was exceptional. We visited from England where our favourite Indian restaurant wins best awards year after year and the owner/chef fly out to Bangladesh to cook for the president when hosting other leaders. The India Gate’s food is just as good.

Good quality, quantity and value for money

We visited this restaurant hoping to enjoy a good plate of rice after quite a long time, but unfortunately, the experience turned out to be very disappointing. The service was subpar — the staff seemed disinterested and inattentive, more focused on catering to local regulars than offering a warm welcome to everyone. As for the food, it seriously lacked authenticity. The dishes were bland and failed to deliver the traditional flavours we were expecting. It felt like corners were being cut, both in terms of ingredients and preparation. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it if you're looking for authentic taste or good service.

I recently visited India Gate in Belfast and had a mixed experience. The Chicken Makhani was delicious—rich, creamy, and well-balanced in flavor. The naan and laccha paratha were decent, though nothing extraordinary. However, we also ordered Chicken Tikka and Prawn Biryani, requesting them to be “Indian spicy.” Unfortunately, they went overboard with the spice level, adding an excessive amount of chopped green chilies, which made the dishes overwhelmingly hot and difficult to enjoy. The spice was so intense that it left us with an upset stomach afterward. While I appreciate authentic Indian flavors and a good spice kick, there needs to be a balance. Instead of just throwing in too many chilies, the heat should be well-integrated with the dish’s flavors. Service and ambiance were good, but the inconsistency in spice levels affected the overall experience.

little bit of a wait for the food but when it came was absolutely delicious.

Me and my friend went here tonight. It is eid tonight and my friend wanted to have some good halal food. We asked the guy who appears to be waiter if it is halal and he took a look at my friend and said yes it is. It was apparent from his face that he was lying. Now my asked him to show the halal certification and he said they didn't have it. It is OK not to have halal food but lying about to a person who clearly wants it is just fraudulent. Shameful indeed.

All the food was very good, and similar to what you would get in a top end restaurant in India as opposed to UK-style Indian restaurants where the food can often be too greasy. Here the food was all very light and tasted very fresh.

Taste of the food is good Samosa is not recommended, it seemed like frozen samosa usually we get in supermarkets. Other than that food was good.

Came here because it is almost adjacent to the hotel and had positive reviews. Food good, although menu is “standard” and not innovative. Portions generous, prices fair. But alas no atmosphere. All alone in a vast space after the one other table finished and left.

We ordered a Takeaway, and explained clearly what we wanted, and they assured us by repeating that they understood what we wanted. They took the order, we waited, brought it home, and noticed they gave us a different order. When we called to resolve the issue, they said there was nothing to do about it. There was a bald guy with glasses at the bar who seemed to be in charge.

The food from this restaurant is very good. They got our order slightly wrong, forgetting the starter which is disappointing. However would still recommend due to the quality of the food.

Lovely sauces, nice blend of spices used for complex flavours. Harder to find authentic Indian flavours these days. Always amenable to adapting options for us as well. Delivery usually takes about an hour

Very good food and service to match. We went on a busy Saturday and never had to wait long for anything. The food was well presented and delicious. We had multiple food allergies to cope with in our group and the staff made sure everything was dealt with.

Just finished an amazing meal at India Gate. My husband and I shared the vegetable korma and it was delicious. Some of the best I’ve had anyplace I’ve visited. Reasonably priced at 16 pounds. Will come back on our next visit to the North.

Classic Indian food is served here at this popular destination. Conveniently located halfway between Ulster Museum and City Hall if you’re on foot. As I entered, I asked the manager if the food was Bangladeshi or Indian. The reply was North Indian. It was only 6 pm when I was seated right at the front of the restaurant adjacent to the main road. I barely had time to people watch till I was given a courtesy popadom and the traditional sauces to accompany it. I ordered a bottle of mineral water, mushroom rice and the hottest meal on the menu. Ten to fifteen minutes later I am served a chicken vindaloo. I’ve had many over the years. Usually fluctuate between a nagga, chicken madras or a vindaloo. This was one of the hottest I’d ever tasted. I had to have two bottles of water!! The mushroom rice was the best I’ve ever had. Fantastic and I’ve been eating curries over forty years. The staff are dressed in traditional black, whilst manager is smart casual. All are courteous, engaging and very professional. The waiter who collected my plate said I did very well to finish as most don’t seem to manage. I had kulfi pistachio ice cream for dessert to cool me down. Highly recommended and a well deserved five stars.

I ordered my food just after 5 and it said that it would be here at 18.59 and it didn't turn up till 19.26 and the food was cols I phone the shop and told them they said that they would send a new one out but I had t go out and I said not to send it again, they just sent a new own out but I was not in with the door camera and he said could I come bk to the house to take it I told him before not to send it but he did I also told him I wouldn't ordering if you order from this Indian shop don't

Superb Indian best curry in area but from outside it looks a bit rundown. We all thought it was incredible and my old friend who was a bit confused argued with the price and they were very kind. Inside it’s luxurious.

The best Indian food I've ever eaten, and the next best wasn't even close. I had the traditional Indian curry, but we all got something different and tried each other's food-- it was all just as good as the next. The staff treated us very well, and the restaurant was clean and lit very nicely. I'd eat here every week if I were local.

Indian food is my favorite so when visiting Belfast and seeing this around the corner from where I was staying I definitely had to walk over. Very good. The chutney was delicious and the garlic naan was perfect!

This restaurant is awesome (& delicious). Am in Belfast from Canada for 1 night as part of a UK, Scotland, Ireland & Northern Ireland trip. This was the best meal that we had since leaving home. We really enjoy Indian food but it is not something we try normally in restaurants we do not know. We are so glad that we went to India Gate. Food is made from scratch. If you have a chance, give yourself a treat and visit & enjoy! Our server was fantastic as well Thank you!
