The best Turkish food ever We had mix hot and cold platter to share between 4 of us amazing to start with Turkish bread was so yummy then mix grill for 2 between 2 of us other 2 had chicken Guvec and lamb iskender We all enjoyed with everything portions are huge . Really blown away with how amazing this place is and disappointed that I haven’t been sooner. It’s a little hidden gem up the stairs on Durham road and we were impressed by the quality of the food, the great service and the huge portion sizes! If you love bbq food and authentic Turkish dishes then you must come try Ilbays. I will definitely be back with my family the next time we’re eating out in low fell. The host/waiter made our experience even better! What a good guy.

Visited this restaurant for the first time recently and the food was amazing along with offering excellent value.

As others have said this really is a hidden gem. We've driven past the door many times without noticing the signs for this authentic Turkish restaurant. We've eaten Turkish food quite a bit, and this was amongst the best. The first-floor interior is fairly small, but the tables are spaced out so that you're not looking onto your neighbour's plate. The background music was soft and relaxing. Best of all the owner who was serving was really polite. Attentive without being fussy or overbearing. The glasses and the knives and forks were sparkling clean. We were really impressed and will certainly be going back.

Fabulous food the best of service we had a party of 10 everyone ate at the same time, a feat in itself. I recommend, that if you like Turkish food. You need to visit Ilbay

It’s one of my favourite Turkish restaurants and just a short walk from home, and always a fantastic experience. The food is consistently amazing, the staff are wonderful, and I find myself here at least once a month!

Visited this Turkish restaurant several times now. Always receive a lovely friendly welcome. Surroundings are cosy and always a great atmosphere. Food is amazing and very good value for money. There’s a good selection of drinks too. Definitely recommend this restaurant

The restaurant was very quiet when I visited. The table cloth was stained and it could do with a few touch ups to the decor. I visited by myself on a work trip. I love Turkish food but this was at best Okay. The waiter was fantastic very friendly and couldn't have done more.

Wonderful restaurant, me and my brother visited last night and the food is gorgeous, the service was fantastic, we would highly recommend, we will be coming back.

Visiting the area and this was my first visit. I had the cold mezze starter Kisir which was tasty and very fresh. For main I had the vegetarian Guvec which was delicious. Service was polite and efficient. Highly recommend and will return.

We visited on a Thursday early evening. We were given a very warm welcome. We chose to get a hot sharing platter for 2 although there was 3 of us. The portion was more than enough for us all. This was served with lovely warm bread. We then ordered a meat platter to share which was huge and only ment for 2 people. We followed with blakava for dessert. All the food was amazing. Truly delicious. This along with the atmosphere and lovely staff means we highly recommend a visit. 5 stars definately

Lamb in any form is to die for including the Sunday lunch

I've been here a few times over the last few years. When Ilbay's first arrived on Low Fell I thought it was good but it is even better now. Their Hummus is the best I've ever had, it is exceptional. I normally get a Chicken Shish and this is also excellent. It's incredible value for money and the ingredients always taste fresh - even for takeaway Thanks ilbays well done 👏

I’d been seeing Ilbays pop up on Facebook and was excited to try their delicious looking cuisine for the first time. Our first delivery from Ilbay’s was punctual and very well presented in user-friendly containers. The food itself was full of flavour and extremely tasty: All lovely in the best of Turkish tradition. The selection of starters we ordered were delicious with the humus being our favourite followed by the aubergine dishes. However we were very disappointed with the size of 2 of the 3 main courses and consider £10.95 for a total of 4 small falafel to be overpriced even if they were very good, the falafel size was ‘fa’laugh’able! Paying £19.95 for the Mixed Grill was also overpriced considering how small the portion, tasty though it was. The grill items were appetizing but the one lamb chop was absolutely tiny and there just wasn’t enough in this to justify the price. The presentation was faultless for all of the mains but the quantity of the 2 portions mentioned above were definitely inadequate for the price. However the portion size of the vegetarian Musakka was good and it was absolutely mouthwatering. All in all, Ilbays provided us with well prepared and presented, flavoursome food which we enjoyed, but taking into consideration other comparable eateries, the prices for some of the food were too much for the quantity supplied.

The service is also amazing, we wanted to order for delivery but the restaurant was too far, however, they called us back and delivered the food within an hour and it was still hot! We're not local so we found the restaurant on TripAdvisor there is no %10 service charge at all some reviews are not true ! The owner of the restaurant is great man we meet .. He has done a great job, it takes an extra talent to fill the second floor with customers and we saw a lot of it while we were there. Congratulations We would definitely recommend it and would happily visit again Thank you ilbays

Ok service meals bit expensive for what you get

The food was amazing! So much flavour and portions were really big! The meat quality was perfect and they have a huge menu with loads to choose from!

I am from Leeds area and we with my friend have business trip to Newcast last evening and before we are start travel back to home deciding to stop somewhere for a food. We opened a google map and checked for a restaurant near us, and this one got the best review, and we went inside. It was busy but not madness. We ordered food trying and love it. Long we not eat that's gregarious food that's was a delicious tasty. I recommend to everyone, and I will definitely come back worthy to seating in the car and drive 110 miles for a day out meal and visit Newcastle, of course. Thank you so much, and see you again. By the way, Chef is a top-class. My fold forgot to make a picture, but will next time .

This place has it all! Traditional, welcoming and amazing food. The staff are amazing. Extremely kind, always there checking on the table making sure you have everything you need. Food is exceptional! If I could put 10 starts I would! Highly recommend!

Fantastic Sunday lunch at Ilbays. 2 courses for £11.95 is great value. The hummus was so flavoursome and was great with Turkish bread and the tasty sucuk. The slow cooked lamb came out piping hot with tasty mash, Yorkie pud and veggies. The Beyti Sarma was beautiful and herby with a fresh addition of yoghurt. Would definitely visit again and would also consider getting food delivered.

Ordered a bottle of the Shiraz and it was quite possibly the worst red wine I've ever tasted. Was hoping the food could revive the night, however again this was rather disappointing as the lamb was tough and frankly tasted of pork, with the dish as a whole being rather bland. The restaurant itself was very basic and generally dull. Would definitely recommend finding a nicer experience for around £25 a head.

We go to Ilbays about once a month and it’s always excellent. Delicious kebabs, nice houlimi and homous, and the baklava is lovely as well.
