We ate here on a Sunday after a great round of golf in glorious sunshine. It’s not a huge place but there is seating inside and outside. We sat inside where there were about 12 tables - all with white linen table overs and it looks very smart. The service was decent, although one out of 4 meals was served about 10 minutes after the others - no real reason was given. The bar service wasn’t the quickest either, but the young waitress was pleasant and efficient. There is a 2 for 1 offer on pizza and pasta just now - so that’s what we had. The portion sizes were large and everyone enojoyed their food. My pizza was very good. It’s not cheap even with the 2 for 1 offer, it’s probably not a place you would chose to eat every week, but it was very good for a one off visit.

On entering the restaurant the first thing that struck me was the damp smell. The order was taken promptly but had to wait a considerable time for the food even although at that point there was only one other table full. The food was alright, nothing outstanding but the pasta dishes had way too much olive oil poured over them. I do like the taste of olive oil but there is a limited to how much should be poured over pasta. This restaurant is not a cheap option for lunch even although pasta and pizza are currently two for the price of one. Don't think we will be back, there are better options about.

Stayed at the hotel. Decided to try out the Italian, was very disappointed. First of all the atmosphere is very quiet and odd with a random selection of music. We ordered a bottle of rose which had actually already been unscrewed and poured from the bottle before "opening" it in front of us. The bottle neck did not have wine in it. Ordered pate, was not home made. The steak sauce was extremely salty. To finished we had the brownie...£5.50 and was not home made. Chips were undercooked. Since there was an open kitchen and very quiet restaurant you could here the microwave beep several times throughout our visit. Looked like the thin small brownies with the perfectly flat surface you get from the supermarket. Wish we had tried the restaurant inside the hotel. Will not be back here. Give it a miss. Worth paying more to visit the other restaurant

Staying at the Mar Hall and went to the restaurant hoping for a nice meal. Was very disappointed. The menu was extremely limited, the food when it arrived was small portions with no taste. It lacked any seasoning, the pasta was under cooked., the garlic bread lacked any garlic and I am convinced they do not have any herbs in the kitchen. Had I not been with a business colleague I would have suggested they sack the chef and find one that actually has a palete.

As a restaurant connected to Mar Hall this was very basic and not up to the standard we had expected. The food was nice but the only choices were pizza or pasta OK for lunchtime or a casual meal but we would not have eaten there if we had realised. One of the waiters was very friendly and helpful but the other needs to go back for training we had to ask him for spoons for our soup and when he brought the wine he put the ice bucket on top on the radiator! We often eat Italian as we love it but would not recommend this one unless you are just looking for a quick pizza.

This was my first visit for about 1 year and after today, I should not have left it so long. The restaurant sits slightly apart from Mar Hall close to and overlooking the Clyde. It has a warm comfortable dining room with friendly efficient staff. This is an Italian restaurant so the menu reflects this with the wide range of pasta dishes. Very cold.Forgetting a side order which was part of the main course was disappointing. The low temperature was nothing though compared to the Arctic conditions and generally poor standard of anyone venturing to the toilets. The quality of the staff especially the young lady from Katwice remains high.So please Mar Hall. Match the quality of the young staff and create a more warming environment which will encourage us and others it come back.

Was here for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. The food was really good and I can only compliment the gentleman who seemed to be managing the restaurant floor, he was lovely and friendly and very happy to help. This is Mar Hall so in keeping with the hotel there has to be something missing and their is. The restaurant could be anywhere. It has no atmosphere and the entrance hall looks like you are walking into a community centre. I have however never sat outside, which I'm sure is lovely on a nice day as the view is great. They could do more with this place and make it a little more special, but I doubt they will. They have needed to do this with the hotel for years. I'd recommend the food, pricing isn't over the top like you would expect from Mar Hall so it was good.

Staff were very attentive and friendly, ambience very nice but my average rating comes from my main course, Penne arriabata with prawns, overcooked pasta with a very bland, tasteless sauce. I was told that Arriabata translated means angry macaroni, not a hint of chilli in it. The cheese board however, was excellent, an ample selection of 3 Italian cheeses, chutney, garnished with strawberries and celery. Far too much for one person but as I was sharing with my friend it was perfect. The tiramisu was given a rave review by my other friend too.We did not feel rushed in any way and had a pleasant evening, shame an Italian restaurant can't cook pasta!!

We were treated to a thank you meal at the Il Posto Ristorante at Mar estate near Bishopton by friends who were first timers here also although they had been to the adjacent hotel. The weather was clear and sunny and the view of the river Clyde from the grounds is stunning. Ths new build restaurant is a pleasant sort of building in a modern styling with a hexagonal shape with a terrace to soak up the view before eating . The first disappointment was that the table was not vacated and it was twenty minutes later before we sat down; actually there are not as many tables and places as you would imagine. The Italian menu was not particularly large or mind blowing and I had the poorest minestrone soup starter ever followed by a smallish penne chicken pasta and ice creams for dessert. Furthermore to be told that the sticky toffee pudding was finished resulting in a diminished choice of ice cream just completely spoiled a visit to this place. What a let down compared to other places that we've visited and we won't be back.

We had some supplements with desert's and drinks. 100% worth it food was lovely location was gorgeous and staff were something to report back about we had two waiters called Ross and Duncan who were very observatant and attentative they also had good banter which to makes the experience what it is. Very good job boys thanks for a great dinner :) best from Michaela and Ryan. Will be back.

If we hadn't pre-booked and paid for our meal when booking our hotel stay I would of turned back at the entrance! The shabby paint work and general first impression was very poor.... Sadly this did not improve with our meals. I'm not a great cook but could certainly have presented a more tasty bruschetta and pizza at home! In comparison to the very high standards exhibited within the mail hotel Il Posto gives the impression it is run by a different owner or management team.I'd advise giving Il Posto a miss and suggest dining in the main hotel!

This was a brilliant location close to our hotel, however the food was very poor, service very good and so was the wine. It may have just been what we ordered.

Having purchased a groupon deal for a meal at Mar Hall, we were a bit intriqued to discover that we were not dining at the hotel at all, but at the little restaurant in the grounds. However, we were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our Sunday lunch there. It was not very busy at the time and we will probably return in the future.

My wife and I had lunch here on Saturday21 March 2015. We received a great welcome from the staff and were waited on in a friendly, professional manner. They have a two course menu at £9.95 a head which we opted for. Food was delicious, surroundings gorgeous and the outlook onto the golf course and river Clyde was outstanding. The Earl of Mar Hall Estate in which the restaurant is located is very stately and impressive. I recommend Il Posto for lunch.

I took my mother in law out for lunch on a Voucher deal and was very pleasantly surprised - I am gluten free and they had a very good selection of pizza, pasta and breads to choose from. In addition the staff were attentive and professional and the food was delicious. Only slight downside was the tables were a little close but not a major issue - would have given 4.5 but system does not allow :-)

Once we ingnored the sat nav which took us through the Erskine Hospital as the postcode jumps over the bordering wall, we came across this lovely building in the shadow of the impressive Marr Hall. The drive up to it is quite special and the restuarant itself is beautiful inside.Staff were welcoming, attentive and friendly although the waiter talked us through the range of bo'led beers (i.e. the word bottle with no t's) and the like! Not what you want to hear a waiter say in such nice surroundings. Very helpful though.Plenty of space and pleasant surroundings. They could have squeezed more tables in but it is so much better with the feeling of space around. We were last to leave but didn't feel pushed out the door.Food was good, not outstanding but reasonably priced. We will definitely be back and would recommend Il Posto.

cold uninviting entrance with a fusty smell,no Italian smells at all! ordered minestrone soup,it was a ladle full of diced carrot and turnip luke warm, that you buy prepacked! I sent it back and the chef didn't even come out to ask why! then the pasta was bland, don't think the chefs have heard of garlic or olive oil as none was to be seen! this restaurant masquerades as Italian, are they having a laugh?as another reader says this is not even in Mar Hall, the only reason we went.

Went here last Sunday with my wife and Daughter at 3:00pm so it was fairly quiet. We ordered our food which took 45 minutes to arrive and it was dreadful. My wife had Lasagna which was bland, my Daughter had Salmon in white wine which was just butter and I had chilly prawns in pasta which looked like a Farmfoods frozen dinner. They cant cook and it will drag Mar Hall down. I have had a chat to others who have been and they have all said the same. Seriusly dont waste your money its really bad.

My Husband had booked Il Posto for Valentines Day. We have eaten in the restaurant on several occasions and have always had a nice meal. We could only get a table for 5pm and it was explained to us that we had to vacate our table by 7 which was more than enough time. We arrived and the restaurant was empty. We were shown to our table. The special Valentines Menu, 3 Courses for £28 per person, was on the table and it was explained to us that a glass of Prosecco was included. I don't drink Prosecco and asked if I could change it for a glass of Rose. The drinks arrived and my Rose was a thimble size!!!! We placed our orders of soup to start, Gnocchi for me, as I am Veggie, Chicken for my Husband and we decided to wait and see how full we were before we placed our desert order. Once we had placed our order I noticed that the restaurant was getting fuller and that the staff were handing out the Al a Carte menu as well as the Valentines Menu, we were only offered the one menu. Our soup arrived and it was lovely and hit the right spot. Next was the main courses, my Husbands plate was massive with two bits of chicken and roast potatoes with peas and some kind of ham. My plate on the other hand was the same size as the soup bowl and on first impressions hardly anything in it!!! The room was dimly lit to give it that "romantic feeling" so I couldn't really see what was in the bowl. I started eating it and thought mmmm that's funny all I can see is the broccoli and cream sauce and NO GNOCCHI. What had happened was that the gnocchi had turned to mashed potato because it had been that over cooked!!! There was also bits of red onion in it that weren't even cooked, it was as if the chef had decided at the last minute to add them. I took a couple of bits of it to try but couldn't eat it. My husband said his looked a lot better than it tasted. I waited to see if any of the waitresses would come and ask us if everything was ok, but none did and I had to signal to the waitress who was in charge of the restaurant that night that I needed to speak with her. I explained about my dish and she said that the way it was meant to be. I said that I cooked gnocchi all the time at home and that there was no way it was meant to be like that and that she should go and speak to the chef about it. She did and came back and said that chef said I was right that it had been over cooked and he wouldn't make that mistake again during the night......not much good for me was it as my Husband had finished his dinner and I hadn't even had anything to eat. The waitress did ask if she could get me anything but I said to her I'm out for VALENTINES, my Husband has eaten his dinner and I wasn't going to sit there and eat after he had eaten. She knew I wasn't very happy. We ordered desert which was ok not great just ok. When the bill came the waitress said she had taken £14 off for my main course but given what I actually had it was still too much. The Valentines Menu was totally over priced for what it was and when we actually checked the Al a Carte menu the other guest were being offered what we had would have cost a lot less than what we paid. Overall we were very disappointed in our night which is a shame because we have had really nice meals here before.

Arrived thinking the restaurant was in the Mar Hall only to discover its actually in a small building near the car park. The neon sign saying 'open' makes it look a bit cheap.Staff very attentive but I was disappointed when told that the drinks were either a small wine or half pint, that's wasn't clarified in the deal.Yes the food was good, but there is no way if you picked the most expensive things on the set menu that it would add up to £43.

A group of us went in for a work lunch and we were waiting a considerable amount of time for the food to come out. We were waiting for one hour 10 mins for the mains. The food was tasty but I had ordered baked salmon with a lemon, parsley and white wine sauce but what I got was fried salmon, and the only sauce was butter. We complained and the waitress gave us 20% off the bill but I will probably go elsewhere in Bishopton next time.

Called to book the excellent 5pm deal- 2 courses and wine for 2- and due to my tardiness, all slots up to the expiry of the deal were taken. The staff were fabulously flexible and agreed. Time slot outside the agreed window. On arrival. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and attentive without being intrusive and the food was first class. Will be back soon

Went along to the restaurant to celebrate my in-laws anniversary, as part of a party of seven. The restaurant is in an lovely setting within the grounds of the Mar Hotel, sited near to the river (Clyde) and looking over at the Kilpatrick hills. There is ample parking immediately outside and adjacent to Il Posto. The restaurant is small, relatively speaking, with soft lighting and only a little background music which made for a lovely relaxing atmosphere. the waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. We had a centrally placed round table with comfortable chairs with arm rests. I had checked the menu online before we went along and knew we would all find something to meet our tastes and so it turned out. I can recommend the meatballs n spaghetti, the roast chicken and the mixed Italian meats (starter). The waitresses kept us well watered and the wines and beers were fine. (they had bottled beers and Tennents Lager - keeps us West of Scotland types happy. )My only minor gripe was the wait between our starters and the main course but that might just have been a matter of timing and kitchen staff. It certainly didn't spoil things. Our night, which on average amounted to a starter and main course, a couple of drinks and a coffee averaged out at about £25 per person. It was a Saturday night and the place was about 80% full. I would go back. A lovely evening.

Booked a table for 2 on the back of a mailshot from Mar Hall. Was surprised when we arrived to find it was the building within the grounds of Mar Hall (and not therefore Mar Hall) - a building incidentally I always thought was the clubhouse of the golf course at Mar Hall :)Anyway... first impressions count. The building itself is a smart looking, small 'clubhouse' type building within the grounds. They do however seem to be puzzled about how best to present themselves. There is a double glass door on the side - a natural entrance however a sign on these doors directs you to a single entrance door alongside, which instead of taking you into the restaurant takes you into a small lobby, where you are able to see into the kitchen before then entering clumsily into the restaurant through double doors where they've inexplicably located a chiller on the other (restaurant) side, blocking one of the doors (!)It's a bizarre start. I think they've wanted to maximise the floor space and therefore tables - however it's a clumsy entrance for an establishment in such a luxurious place.Restaurant was almost empty when we visited - so it was lacking in any atmosphere. The restaurant itself is nicely finished, and the decor is pleasant so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and say that when busy I imagine it's quite a nice setting. Food was fine - not spectacular however it was well presented and service was excellent so wouldn't fault it on this. Needs to work out what it's doing - what it's offering. Lovely restaurant however it has an identity crisis. Presumably it's utilised as additional dining option when at Mar Hall however it doesn't fit at the moment with it's dodgy entrance and it's neon sign outside.... I booked believing we were dining at Mar Hall so was a little disappointed, however that's probs my fault for being unaware they had additional dining options. I would however hold it to the same standard as I would to dining within Mar Hall and it's therefore valid to criticise on this basis.

We recently had a return visit to Il Posto and were not disappointed. We were there on a voucher deal and the food was excellent for what we paid. The staff are very efficient and friendly. The only downside is the very cold unattractive entrance and the freezing cold toilets.
