Best Italian food in Crosby / Waterloo

Really tasty food. Visited this place not long before their closing time, but staff was super friendly and they were still able to serve us food. Place is nice and tidy with nice music in the background. We have tried two different types pastas and they were delicious. Tomatoes they use to prepare food - first class. We will definitely come back to try carbonara and their famous pizzas as well. Thank you.

The reason to go here is the pizza which is in the authentic Neapolitan style. The simplicity demands quality ingredients which are fresh and that's what I got. The Bruschetta was just okay and the others I was with enjoyed their meals. The house white was super lemony and pretty acidic so if you like that style it's a variety I hadn't tried before. A good spot for this type of food, I'm glad to have come across it, I think in future I will get takeaway and I look forward to trying the pizzetas

Great decor, a real surprise! The food was delicious! Reasonably priced. Recommend the calamari, the pear, cheese and chestnut pizza (amazing!) And the pulled pork and beef bolognese. The house red wine was fantastic. It was fairly empty. Staff waiting on tables were warm and welcoming, but needed reminders over drinks ordered. We will certainly come again and I'll be recommending to friends.

We love the pizzas from this place and have always had good pizzas from here. We were disappointed tonight as the edges looked cooked but the base of the 4 pizzas were quite soft and undercooked. Hopefully next visit it will be back to normal

Went for first time on Father’s Day. Mike was great with us all, offered to cater for my one year old son and looked after us all night, food was boss and had a great atmosphere in there. Defo be back!

Took my son there this afternoon for tea. Lovely welcome from Stefan and lovely pizza. My son couldn't finish his but they boxed it up so we could bring it home. Will be back for more!!! I heartily recommend

Quality genuine Italian pizza, the best I've had outside of Italy, a disco ball, and quality music playing. Brilliant staff in a fuss free environment. This place is an absolute gem, and never disappoints

Have ordered from Il Capitanos twice now. Both times I can say I've had fantastic, tasty fresh pizza. However, both times I have ordered online and arrived on the stated collection time. The first time round I had to wait about 20 minutes with partner and young child in the car. Second time I picked up a couple of pizzas with friends and our pizzas were only going in the stone oven as we were invited to take a seat and wait. They're worth the wait, but they really need to sort out the whole online delivery/collection thing to prevent annoyances.

Went to IL Capatinos for my wife's birthday with family, booked table and this was reserved for us on arrival , the pizzas as always freshly cooked and delicious, allowed to bring own birthday cakes in for dessert, at no cover charge,which was brought to table by staff with roman candle in cake lit, The staff and customers sang happy birthday, and a great evening was had !! Would definitely recommend for a great pizza and good wine and beer, excellent service , only give 5 stars on 3 previous occasions, this is well deserved 👏 ☆☆☆☆☆

Food was lovely but the service was not so good.

Small and friendly pizza restaurant in Waterloo. I had been recommended this place by a friend so thought I’d give it a try. Staff were attentive and quick to serve food and drinks. Bruschetta was nice but not amazing the unusual addition of anchovies was a bonus but the quality and flavour of the tomatoes was a bit of a let down. The olives were poor low quality. I really think places miss a trick selling rubbish olives as I definitely won’t have them again here. The pizza itself was a fabulous hand drawn wood fired pizza - although we were really disappointed that the Frutti de mare pizza (seafood) was not available so we had to have our second choice again with those rubbish olives! Wine was nice and reasonably priced. Dessert salted caramel cannoli was ‘bought in’ mini cannoli served with ice cream nice but a bit of cheat. The limoncello spritz was very nice. Overall pretty good and to be honest probably the best actual pizza in Waterloo. They just need to make a few minor improvements and it would be excellent. Thanks

We went there yesterday with the kids who are the best critics when it comes about pizza!!! One of them (7 years old) managed to eat the whole pizza after he had a meal at home just one hour before!!!??? This is how much he LOVED IT!!! I've had a medical problem in the past and I was advised to avoid certain things in my new diet including PIZZA!!!?? This is the only PIZZA I can eat without any repercussions!!! I don't know what Chef Florentin is using in his secret recepies but we know one thing for a fact: For our kids and family this is THE BEST PIZZA in the world (according to the little ones 😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️) We've been in both their locations and never had a reason to fault them, so, WELL DONE Florentin & Jay and keep up the good work because as long as you'll keep the quality standards at this level, you'll be always TOP OF THE LIST!!! NOT GOOD FOR GLUTEN-FREE. I am exceptionally passionate about supporting local businesses and it is even more satisfying when there is a local "high-quality" gluten-free restaurant. For those of you, who like me have coeliac or need a gluten-free diet, you will understand how difficult it is to find decent and tasty gluten-free food. I used to look forward to the pizzas from IL Capitanos, and have previously had great experiences. However, nothing angers and annoys me more though than when a local business become successful and significantly lowers its standards, which is what has happened at IL Capitano's. They have swapped their large, exceptional tasty gluten-free base to a significantly smaller base that tastes like cardboard; however, you still have the pleasure of paying more for this pizza, costing £16.30. You can see from the photos attached, the significant difference in size and quality. The previous gluten-free pizza is in the foil tray and the same size as a normal pizza, compared to the child's size portion you now get. When I pointed out that the pizza was considerably smaller, I was told it wasn't and they aksed what I expected, they have to pay more for gluten-free bases! I was offered a refund but after waiting over an hour after ordering and having traveled to collect it, at 8pm on a Friday night, I thought I might as well just deal with it (it wasnt nice). The worse part, is that the staff were not bothered at all, showing considerable disregard for customers. If you were going to go here for a gluten-free pizza, I really would not waste your time.

We started ordering takeaway from the knotty ash branch and the first time the pizzas were spot on wexwere chuffed to find woodfired pizza locally . Since then every time we get them they are undercooked and soggy. Also they dont cut them which is really annoying....well they probably cant cut a soggy pizza! We have given up now wont be ordering again.

Had takeaway from here. Much better than Dominos/ pizza hut, the base and ingredients are fresh and tasty. Other places tend to rely on salt and sugar to taste but this is just great ingredients well cooked. Would definitely recommend.

Having visited all Neapolitan pizzerias in Liverpool and a few classic ones in Naples, I can say this is the best one in Liverpool and just as good as the real ones. Wilson’s pear pizza is amazing.

Erm, it's alright but I don't think I'd be getting this pizza again. It's priced too high for the quality. I had to remove all the ham (tasted kinda old) and artichokes (were extra dry) from my capricciosa pizza to make it taste dissent.

A cosy and atmospheric environment, somewhere I would return to eat again. Foods good too.

Heard loads of people talking about this place, so decided on a takeaway treat for father’s day. Phoned and asked to order some pizzas for a set time. Turned up at the restaurant, it was packed and the place was bouncing, but our pizzas were ready at the time requested, the staff were super friendly...got home and had the best pizza I’ve had in a long long time, they were absolutely delicious. Real quality, super cheesy and the wood fire really does make all the difference. Great to have this locally, can’t wait for another one, next time we’re going in to the restaurant for some of that atmosphere!

Three for two pizza today - doesn't get better than this, best pizza around, the flavour from the wood oven is delicious. Lactose intolerance? No problem, really good vegan mozzerella. Busy but great service. An absolute gem.

We've been a few times and the food is always amazing! Couldn't ask for better pizza or service, always friendly and welcoming when you go and such a gem to find outside of Italy. We live locally and use the takeaway service too, there are no bad things to say about this restaurant!!

Disappointed (to say the least). After being recommended regarding this place by a visiting London chef I know who makes a point of testing out pizza places around UK...and plus rave reviews here I was keen to say least. Imagine my disappointment when the overwhelming taste I got throughout was burnt carbon. If the underside and edges being charred black was part of Napoli authentic experience then I'm afraid it's wasted on me. Would have got lower stars , but the desserts were excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive. However won't be returning.

Their Pizzas are abslutelydellicious. I've only used them for take out but they are most efficient & never fail to please.

The pizzas are really nice and feel like a healthy fix. Don’t usually love pizza but would recommend this restaurant lovely staff and amazing food.

I can honestly say that I was so excited to try this place out considering it was traditional "Italian" pizza however my whole experience was awful. First of all, the customer service from the staff was terrible, I literally had to shout multiple times to get the waiters attention and terrible communication they were not approachable at all. Secondly the food tasted okay when I was eating it however the base was very soggy and undercooked. A couple hours later I eventually ended up vomiting it was that bad, this was literally the only thing I had eaten all day so it couldn't have been anything else. I'm not sure whether I decided to go on a bad day or whether it's constantly like this on a daily basis however it is safe to say I will not be going there again sadly. Lastly when it was time to receive the bill, the trainee had charged me double the amount for the cannoli thinking I wouldn't notice. Just an awful experience which has completely put me off.

Struggling to find a better word than perfect. The dough is perfectly made - thin with the perfect crust. The pizza is baked in the wood fired oven till perfection. The topping combination was perfectly delicious! Genuinely recommend this place. Treat yourself and you won't regret it, I promise you that!

This pizzeria close to Waterloo station in Crosby is absolutely fantastic. I have tried many pizzas in Italy and across the UK and so far this is one of the best. Definitely much much better than famous “italian” pizzerias in London. Very simple space with a simple menu, as you would expect from an authentic Pizzeria in Italy. The dough is absolutely delicious, with a high crust thinning towards the centre. The toppings are amazing. Perfectly cooked in a wood fired oven. Absolutely a must try if you are in Liverpool. Luckily I just moved closed by and I will definitely go back.

Words cannot do justice to the pizza here. From “award winning” pizza in Edinburgh to pizza in Napoli the pizzas at il capitanos make these sultry imitations taste a pile of dirt. Nothing compares to the pizza, the wine and most importantly the service and I cannot state enough the PIZZA! Please if you’ve considered this place, BOOK! You won’t regret it, in fact you’ll never be able to eat a pizza anywhere else!

Visited here for the first time last Saturday. Headed back this Sat which I think says all you need to know! I had the carbonara pizza and tiramisu which I'd happily recommend.

Went to IL Capitano's early Wednesday evening (09/06/21). I have used the takeaway service throughout lockdown and always enjoyed the pizza but I have to say getting them direct from the wonderful oven took them to a different level. Absolutely delicious 😋 Terrific little restaurant with pleasant attentive staff and a good buzz. Very reasonably priced as well. What's not to like. Highly recommended.

This place is truly amazing! We've visited quite a few times since they've opened and the food is always spot on, the service is perfect and the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating! The pizza is some of the best we've had, and their inclusion of a decent vegan menu is a godsend to us. We never hesitate to come here for great food and boss atmosphere! Definitely give it a go if you're ever in the Waterloo areas, you won't be disappointed!

If Caps is one of those places you've seen and thought "I should try them", I urge you to do it. You won't be disappointed. With 24hr fermented dough that catches in the wood fired oven in just the right way I cant recommend these guys enough. I thought I had more pictures but by the time I've got these home I just want to dig in!

Got three pizza to salty, one the cheese slid of the pizza another was hard, mine was burnt on the edge, looked very basic and not a lot of meat on them, couldn't even slice them, won't be going back

Really nice atmosphere and food. However menu was very limited (hope you like pizza!!) and we had to wait a while for mains. Saying that, though, the staff were very good and drinks and starters delivered in very short time

Ridiculously good pizza and phenomenal garlic bread which was some how better. If you like a neopolitan style pizza this is the gaff for you. Proper wood fire oven at a decent price. Pizzas average between 8-11 pound. With the most expensive one at 13. Also that garlic bread at £7.50 is a must. Good drink selection with bottles of peroni red for £3.75. Best pizza I've had in this country. Also got the salted caramel Cannolis for dessert which where again unreal. Definitely a must got those who love a neopolitan pizzeria

Lovely staff, excellent wood fired pizzas which are a decent size and some great puddings too. You cant go wrong in here, family or couple its classy and not too expensive.
