Ikea in Gateshead

Ordered fish and chips for three birriani and also a meatballs meal everything except the meatballs had to be fetched only macaroni cheese for the infant we had with us we were in the que for ages only one person serving and the other people in the line were not happy food was not good although chips had to be fetched they were cold after standing in a dish for goodness knows how long my daughter had to stand and wait for birriani to come obviously more people need to be serving when it’s bang on lunchtime won’t be going back

Ordered the Birriani and can honestly say I have seldom tasted anything quite so disgusting. Completely over spiced and full of sweet raisins yuk !

Paid £10,000 for an IKEA kitchen last year and have been left with multiple faulty issues that are yet to be corrected. I have contacted IKEA multiple times to be told someone will get back in touch which never happens. I have emailed management and no one is helping.

I would just like to say the lady in the cafe serving the food was very rude with no customer service skills the way she spoke to me you would think she was purchasing my lunch for me not even a please or thank you Maybes the staff on the tills could give her some training as they were lovely and after a brilliant experience with jenny at the furniture department this is such a let down to your company manners costs nothing and could make a big difference to the customers experience

Very disappointed meatball meal was cold even friends chips were warm girl on till someone asked about the milk machine her answer was what about it !!! Not very good customer service there so come on ikea letting your team down will I come again ...NO !!

Nice big store clean and tidy and helpful staff,plenty of good offers here we only bought some small items but was passing as mainly going to metro centre,all in all a pleasant visit and Dont forget cheap takeaway food near tills

we have been to Ikea's in the past so we what the layout is like, a nice little is a touch screen as you enter to check if your item is in stock and where it is located lots of very good ideas in the store if you have a bonus card you can have free tea or coffee or for a 50p supplement hot chocolate or a latte coffee which are both very nice very impressed

Well what can I say, not a pleasant visit. Breakfast was served by a man who looked as if he totally fed up to be there! He slopped the breakfast items on a paper plate, really a paper plate!! I went to get a cinnamon roll but alas no plates to put it on..oh well I got it anyway and just carried it. Time for a hot drink, no cup's only glasses and paper cups! Oh well at least I can get a coffee...as long as you want it black as there's no milk.. Staff weren't very helpful when I asked if there was any milk the answer I got was, i don't know where it is! Can honestly say that this is the last time I will be using the "restaurant" in Ikea, you get better from other places and food served on actual plates!!

Love shopping at ikea but on the way out we usually get a hot dog meal but they has been no fries or chips for ages along with the drinks and also no onions

Today I was kindly helped with a purchase from terry I have mobility issues and he helped me with products into car and was a happy chappie….. Then I went to restaurant where aly kindly again took my order and brought food to table. Girls in till girls cleaning tables all kind n helpful. A credit to ikea. Don’t shop on Saturdays if you don’t need to you get killed in the rush.,

On the evening I visited there was very little available to eat. I really didnt want meatballs again! Long queue and very few staff. The queue to pay was as bad so food got even colder. Not usual Ikea standard - poor

Easy access from the A1. Ample free parking. Large store with onsite resturant and cafe, Staff we helpful with any questions we had as some items were out of stock they even recomeneded simialr items. The resturant was busy so we just used the cafe at the end after the till and took our food out to the car. The chips were really nice.

We do like to eat at IKEA Restaurants, quality and cost are very good. We enjoyed our Breakfast here, it's always a pleasure to eat in a clean relaxing atmosphere.

Haven’t been here in a very long time as thought shop wasn’t for our liking but were changing ,big nice clean store and very organised and appealing,plenty of helpful staff ,decent car park and fab little takeaway at end of tills we bought some bits n bobs but i would travel for the hotdog and chips as so cheap and done the job,we will be back soon.well done ikea

We were at Ikea to buy some furniture and decided to have lunch. Being vegetarian and trying to lose weight we opted for the pasta with tomato sauce. As soon as I saw it I should have changed my mind but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. It looked like a bowl of baby food, thick orange sauce with the pasta already mixed in to it. It only took one mouthful to confirm my fear. The pasta turned to mush in my mouth it was so overcooked. The sauce had an overwhelming taste of garlic. I love Italian food but this was nothing like anything I had ever tasted. Neither of us was able to get past that first bite. I took the full plates back to the till and to her credit the till operator took them straight off me and told me to choose something else. I got a couple of sandwiches which were fine. This was by far the worst experience of Ikea’s food. I would rather pay a bit more for better quality.

Fine time shopping and then popped for a hot dog on the way out. Watching my poor step dad suffer being spoke down to and belittled as a blonde haired girl clearly with a stinking teenage attitude and a face like a smacked —-. He is hard of hearing and it’s almost like she took an instant dislike towards him the way she was speaking was absolutely disgusting, clearly didn’t wanna be there and clearly doesn’t care about her job. One of the worst displays of customer service I’ve ever seen, if you can’t speak to people politely then I think you’re in the wrong job.

I mean, it’s an IKEA. I think people know what to expect. I chose to review this because when I visited there was not a strict adherence to social distancing measures enforced by the staff, people were very close together, even in queues. We went to the food market at the end and the queue was extremely long so we didn’t end up buying anything from it. I will recommend the folding chairs though, they were cheap and have lasted okay despite this!

I needed a few household bits and popped along with a family member. We decided to have dinner but didn’t realise you need to book in advance and have the nhs app to use the restaurant. Luckily we were given a time to go back and were able to shop for a while. Only one person can go and order the food and there are no longer refills with drinks. The food however is still good.

I forgot how much I hate this store - are they all the same ??? Been to the Thurrock one but can’t remember. U park up in the disabled parking spaces, I might add, then when you eventually get thru the maze of a store & have walked miles thru depts you have no interest in whatsoever you get back to your car & virtually need to call for an ambulance !!! The person I asked for help, couldn’t as he didn’t have a tape-measure, sorry but by this time I really couldn’t have walked back to where I got the items - only to have to walk back thru to eventually get to the tills & exit. Only going to order online after this if I cannot find the item elsewhere first !!!

one thing that I would thought that shop this popular and in Gateshead with a high cases of covid-19. is that they would keep 2 meters but I was wrong it started in the line no one keeping two meters having to tell people to keep 2 meters and security were just walking around doing nothing. but the worst was when we went inside the people were not even 1 meter they let way to many people in at one time there were people bumping into us the visit was bad during a mayor pandemic do not come here go somewhere else

With post lockdown rules finding their feet my son (first ever visit aged 22) and myself went to IKEA for bedroom items for him. Myself and hubby love IKEA but it takes a while to get round. This time the queue was slow to move due to one in one out and a lot of people were caught out in heavy rain. A nice touch would have been temporary use of umbrella or throw away plastic ponchos

My partner & I with my two boys ages 5 & 7 visited with my mother & father Today & we had a great experience. All the staff were incredibly helpful & happy amazingly so. They need to be commended.In particular I think her name was Celina who hunted down a cuddly snake for me eldest. Apparently it was her day off she was on a first aid course (20th July) but when She finished went in to store & assisted us amongst others probably. One of the nicest shopping experiences I’ve had,,, we were made to feel very very welcome Well do e to all ikea workforce we salute your positive & friendly vibes in particular Celina xxx

Have eaten here on many occasions and tried the meatballs, breakfast and fish and chips. To be honest it’s not gourmet dining but even though they use some processed stuff like fries it’s all well cooked and very hygienic. It’s usually a quick lunch if we’ve shopped in there but out of everything we have purchased we enjoy the fish and chips as it’s not to big of a portion and the price is reflective of the meal.

Wanting some draws for the bairns room, 9:30 we decided on having a breakfast, a full english breakfast, hash browns, bacon, sausage, beans, egg, tomato, with fried bread and 2 teas,I'm surprised how good the breakfast was, I'm surprised how good the ingredients were, I'm surprised at how good the value was here, 6 quid for 2 breakfasts and 2 teas, 6 QUID CHARVA, Wonderful.

Had a wonderful meal of dry tasteless vegetable balls served by an abrupt, ignorant old man who REALLY doesn’t like being interrupted when he’s “COONTIN’” his balls. Obviously they guy finds it difficult to do more than one thing at once but with his lack of social grace he’s wasted on IKEA and would be better employed at Carphone Warehouse.

Lovely range of meals meat and vegetarian. Nice cakes and great prices, refills of hot and cold drinks, bottled wine and lager

Visited Ikea restaurant in gateshead this morning and after getting lunch my son who is 3 wanted hashbrowns from the Breakfast lane. When I got to the breakfast lane the chefs started shouting “breakfast is close mate”...told just alwanted a couple of hashbrowns for the baby, which were just there in front of them, but they refused to serve me...Just a typical case of not using your brain when dealing with customers with families in a so called family friendly store....

Probably amongst the worst restaurant food I have ever experienced. In truth I wasn’t expecting much, but the poor quality of the food here was even worse than I had feared - tasteless pap and only just lukewarm. Why on earth do we British tolerate rubbish like this is totally beyond me. Avoid this place at all costs.

Well I was tempted in by the promise of artisan bread with it, and figured it would be a nice change.The beef stew was devoid of vegetables but somehow still managed to taste of uncooked onions, a vague hint of red wine , and some proper cubes of beef which were properly cooked. The gravy, it was mainly gravy, was good and went pretty well with the fries which I got with it.So maybe 2 stars is about right. BUT the artisan bread was only one of the ubiquitous part baked white rolls which cost 13p in bulk and they usually charge 50p for, every breakfast time - except this time it was free.I was told if I waited 10 minutes I could have a brown part baked roll , but its still not artisan bread.I have eaten my way round Paris in the last month or so, and simply love the pain au levain from Rise bakery, but seriously I was disappointed. Ironically if it had just said " with free bread roll" I wouldnt have complained at all.

Went with a friend shopping for furniture, on way out we stopped at there cafe, though packed the prices and portitions were brilliant, and will be going back again soon, hotdog good size 50p,if you don't buy anything in store I'm sure you will want to visit the cafe known for its meat balls

We have always had a good meal but not today, the meatball, chips and Garvey at best were lukewarm, the fish was over cooked and every refill drink we tried was flat not a bubble between them . Won’t try again!

Ikea may well be a fantastic store if you’re looking for home furnishing etc but the store in Gateshead is a wheelchair users nightmare, the entire store is a one-way system & over two floors where you have to carry on & go through every department whether you’re wanting to or not, go up onto the first floor & go all the way around that then come down again just to get to the check out area...Don’t get me wrong if you’re planning on spending the day there then great but if, like myself you’ve only gone in for one thing it feels like you’ve had to go on some ‘mass expedition’ not only to find your item but to get in & out in one piece...Then there’s the access & disabled parking.There’s many, many disabled parking spaces both near the entrance & exit of the store but the problem being there’s such a huge distance between them both if you park near the exit you’re around 100 metres away from the entrance & vice-versa, whoever designed the layout needs to give their head a wobble as it’s extremely exhausting & time consuming for a disabled person using a wheelchair to shop there...Just one other thing to point out, the self-service checkouts are card only so if you’re only spending a few pounds & have the cash on you like I was you have to queue at the main til while the self-service area machines are all empty...

Was a welcome pit stop while shopping in ikea. What a find , food excellent and great value. Not a big menu but was very tasty what was on offer.

lovely food, the chips the gravy. the meat balls. the ham shank. BUT i got a bowl of soup and i had no breadbun.i was tol;d one bread bun would be brought over to me.

We nipped to IKEA for a few things tonight. Bearing in mind I have never been an ikea fan ever. I actually enjoyed walking around tonight.

As seasoned visitors to Ikea's restaurant for cheap brakfasts and lunches and regular attendees of their themed nights, we were looking forward to be midsummer feast on the 20th June but we were very disappointed with the choice and variety of food on offer.

Love Ikea cafe and like how it's in the middle of the store so nice to stop part way through shopping.

the food is always good value and after a long walk around the shop you need something to eat i like the hot dog and chips

Came here today just for breakfast as I know I was going to the metro centre, break is served before 11am and if you have the Ikea family card it’s £2.25 am absolute bargain and coffee or tea are free with the card or if ya want hot chocolate it’s 50p needless to say at that price I pushed the boat out and had 2 cups of hot chocolate

We went to the Valentine meal in Ikea and had a lovely meal. Minestronie soup with a warm bun, a platter with half a chicken chicken skewers, sweet potato fries, green beans a bowl of salad and a delicious dip, plenty for two to share .The sweet was to share, two lovely cakes with cream and two heart shaped chocolates. Also a small bottle of wine or small beer or small fruit drink. Coffee or tea, All beautifully displayed. We had flowers on the table and nice background music. The waiter was Yohann he was very good and polite and attendtive with a nice smile. This was all for £25 per couple.

Can't go wrong with an Ikea breakfast; great value especially with a Family Card. Reasonable serving with several add ons available. Lunch good too though the menu is limited but does include a vegetarian option. Pleasant enough restaurant with quite a buzz from the many who have discovered the Ikea breakfast!

I thought this place would be rubbish but it’s not it’s brilliant. It’s extremely cheap. The ice cream was delicious.

How do they do it for the price? The food at this self service restaurant is good, tasty and amazing value. There’s a good choice including vegetarian options (the veggie balls with veggie hash is delicious), drinks are sensibly priced, the place is clean and bright and the staff helpful and friendly. High chairs, children’s portions, snacks, cakes, salads, hot meals...... well worth a visit.

Love this place, love the meatballs but my husband only got 14 meatballs Instead of 15, he knows cos he counted them, he was so distraught I had to give him one of mine! If your an ikea meatball lover you will understand.

If you have a members “family” card – you get free coffee & tea; that’s worth something – on its own. So what’s the quality like? I think it’s really nice. It’s not fine dining, nor is it McDonalds – cheap fast food; it’s somewhere in the middle - but more towards the “rather nice” end. I enjoyed the Salmon salad I got – and the desert with it. The portions were small – for a guy who had been fasting (5-2 diet) – but the taste was certainly there. The coffee was very good; nice and smooth; no lingering bitter or sour tastes. Well – the food is like their furniture; affordable and good enough – and if you keep an eye out – it’s value for money and just what you needed.

Excellent products with a convenient restaurant/coffee shop about half wat with really good meatballs, bottomless soft drinks and other tasty dishes at not too expensive prices . Pretty much a ‘good half day or so , out’

Lovely place. Staff lovely and polite always willing to help. Toilets very clean and tidy. Food was great. Meat balls and chips were lovely. Anyone going I recommend the meat balls .

Food cold by the time we were served and back at table. Coffee machine not working. Not provided with a token to get hot chocolate. Total chaos - not enough staff on the floor. A very busy Sunday with customers running around all over. No mayonnaise. No bowl/vessel provided for ketchup. Not totally inexpensive either. Never again.

Tried the special of the day as advertised on all of the boards, 4 cheese chicken Kiev. Product was encased in hard crumb and was, at best, luke warm, served with 5 new potatoes and cold peas, the last of them at this service, only one person serving at lunch time!

Called for Full English breakfast and coffee. Cheap and cheerful. Toast and jam nice too. Served quite quickly.

Long wait in Q one boy serving at 12.00. Had 2 x cod and chips. Fish made of re constituted cod bits. Nasty texture like warm. Very dissatisfied

Do you not temperature control your food in here, unfortunately everything we bought 4 meals were cold. Luckily we spotted the microwave in the seating area and heated up our food. If we had taken it back and complained we would have been served the same cold food!

5 stars because the. alive for money here is so good. The food is very cheap, no fuss, you can be in and out quickly and not come away feeling ripped off. Wish I lived closer to ikea.

Myself and my 8 year old son ate a sharing platter only to realise after we had both eaten most of the half piri piri chicken that it was NOT cooked through! Disgusted! The sweet potato fries were overpowered by the taste of oil and were served cold! Photograph attached.

Great having a family card, free tea/coffee, Monday to Friday, with free re-fills. Good selection at breakfast, lunch or just for a cuppa

The food here is very nice. They sell meatballs, chips, mashed potatoes, breakfasts and drinks. The places to sit are tables and chairs, high stools, benches and booths. The cafe is clean and the staff are friendly and efficient. The noise level is not too bad for a big cafe.

Got to put this one on trip advisor, called in at Ikea and 3 of us enjoyed bacon with toast and ground coffee, 2 hash browns and some mushrooms brought the bill to £4.20 total. Can't beat that.....

A big portion of meatballs with mash and gravy and that red berry jam stuff is simply perfect. Wash it down with a nice cup of filter coffee and you are transported to Sweden. Oh, and the apple pie is just about perfect too. The cheesecake isn't bad either.

I won't lie to you, their French fries are amazing. I'm not kidding, their milkshake is so good, I would genuinely contemplate going to Ikea just for the shake...and it's £1! Did I love the lunch food? No, if I'm honest, the price is appealing, but the food isn't great, but it is a furniture store, so if you look at how their doing with food...They're killing it, I love their fast food things like their hotdog. The main meals just aren't for me, I find their cinammon roles lacking in cinnamon, and their own sodas aren't great. But you should 100% get their hotdog, fries and milkshake, their delicious!

Free tea & coffee for family card holders. Long queues, but they serve quickly. Tasty fresh food always available & can't fault the meatballs & lingonberry jam 😀

granma mother boy & girl all had a meal with a drink for a very reasonable price then just before we left all had an ice cream @ 50 p each. ~Hot dogs were 50P too!!! Friendly atmosphere as you walk around. Creche for the younger ones and activitys for the older ones. Very enjoyable

This no-nonsense large canteen like restaurant offers fantastic value and is ideal for young families. Some of the Scandinavian style dishes, especially the meatballs, are very tasty indeed. A visit to Ikea is not complete without a visit to the restaurant.

We've all done the Ikea thing but the best bit about it is the meatballs when you can't take anymore walking and stop for something to eat. And what great value for money it really is . They've really upgraded the food side now and the meatballs are fantastic as well as the hole range of meals . Quite simple but very effective and very tasty. Suddenly lkea has a reason to visit especially if your hungry!

Meals are lovely and so cheap. Breakfasts i have had and fish and chips the great thing too is refillable soft drinks and hot drinks at 85p i think! They also sell lager i seen in the fridge!

I came here to meet my partner for lunch. I had my 1 year only with me. The queues were long but moved super fast and my vegiball with mash and peas for the baby was excellent. I had the rigatoni with 10 hidden veg...

You need to know that we love IKEA. We waxed lyrical about our family days out to furnish our house...

We were enticed by the smells of food whilst furniture shopping. We had the vegetarian balls with cauliflower rice & spicy sauce and fish & chips. The food was delicious, freshly cooked and we couldn’t believe what food value it is. We had a side salad, desserts, cold drinks and hot drinks in addition to our main course and it was under £15.00. We’ll be back just for the food.

This was actually the vegetarian option and neither me nor my sister are veggie, but we chose it. It was delicious. We actually met, by chance one, of the chefs and complemented him on the dish. We also asked for the ingredients in the tasty pastry.

I've eaten here several times in the past but only for convenience and body re-fuelling.

Ordered chicken in sauce and marinated salmon with a small salad, had a bottle of beer and small bottle of wine. Paid under £13 and thought it was fab. Will go back, next time I am in store.

Was really busy being a Saturday, long queues but got a seat ok and food was worth the wait.

After doing a bit of shopping we popped to the restaurant. There was quite a queue but only to be expected on a Saturday at 12:30 so we were not really bothered and it did go down fairly quickly. Picked up the meatballs (well you have to don't you) with chips and a side of garlic bread (although there was plenty of choices for every taste). There was a member of staff that was giving everyone a cover to keep food warm which was a nice touch. Food paid for, seat found, drinks obtained and very nice meatballs eaten and we were on our way. Very nice, thank you

Shopping in IKEA and thought we would have a quick snack. We both chose chicken breast which was cold. We collected a bottle of water from the multi deck assuming that it would be cold, but it was just the opposite. We checked the rest of the bottles to see if any were cold, but they weren't. The cost of the meal was only £9.00 but that is not the point. Customers having a similar experience to ourselves will not want to go back, and in fact the dining room was nearly empty. We won't be eating there again.

Always love visiting, and come here often to browse the furniture and enjoy the delicious, reasonably priced breakfasts. Staff are always friendly and place is always tidy.

One person serving a queue of 30 plus people whilst quite a number were wheeling around trollies etc in the kitchen area. Therfore very long wait to be served. Plates cold so food quickly cooled down. No cups available. No tea spoons or stirrers. Nowhere to put teabags. Omelotte cold and flavourless. Bacon cold. Noisy, chaotic and very basic. Gents toilet smelly with one broken soap dispenser. We seldom go to IKEA because of the sheer drudge of traversing the tortuous and confusing route through the store. This, our first visit to the "restaurant", simply confirms that it is a place to avoid.

Went with my wife for breakfast and to shop the food was very good and hot and great value for money and with a IKEA family card free drink . and shopping all under one roof a good day out

My wife and I stopped by the Ikea restaurant while picking up a few items for the kitchen. The food is inexpensive, served hot and with decent portions. We often eat at IKEA while shopping there because it is just convenient. Free coffee and cake coupons are often available if you’re an Ikea family member.

Stopped off for something to eat whilst shopping in Ikea, and I wish we hadnt. The dining room was virtually empty, and maybe that is the reason. Come on Ikea, buck up.

Terrible experience in your restaurant this morning, not only did they get our order wrong but the sausages weren't even cooked! The milk had ran out in one of the milk dispensers and other rude customers had the cheek to berate me for trying to use it! We won't be returning, terrible experience all round.

Called in here for a tea and a strawberry tart after shopping in the store. It's cheap enough but if you have a family card you can actually get free cups of tea and coffee Monday to Friday which is excellent and even cheaper as you just purchase your food......super! Will be back.

Being vegetarian I welcomed a choice my decision was the rigatoni pasta with "hidden" vegetable sauce! As soon as I sat down at the table there was the horrible smell of cheap tinned pasta definitely not Heinz. I took 1 fork full and could eat no more the whole bowl was then left to go to the waste bin totally inedible. Still bring hungry I decided to try the vegetarian hotdog on offer at the cafe as you leave the building. I have never seen traffic light amber coloured hot dog before but there it was right before me in all its glory OK it was only sixty pence but again after one bite it went in the same direction as the pasta to the bin. Never ever again will I but any food from IKEA!

Huge IKEA with a massive range of products. Friendly and welcoming staff. Cheap hot dogs and ice cream after checkouts. Highly recommend.

A lunch stop while picking up some things for the house. Was really good value and simple tasty food. Two kids meatballs meals, one fish and chips, one salmon. A strawberry tart and two chocolate cheese cakes slices rounded things off. Refreshed we braced to hoards once more.

Once again I was dragged around Ikea like grade A torture to husbands. What did I do so wrong to deserve this I asked. However once in and armed with my Ikea pencil me and my wife managed to purchase everything apart from the tings we actually went for. Wasn't a bad experience but not my best and the trolley we selected managed a wheel malfunction half way round just to add to the fun.

There is a lack of options for gluten-free/ coeliac customers in the cafe and staff on th till too slow at serving so food was cold when we say to eat it. The hot drinks area needed re-stocki my but tables were clean. Staff at the tills were unhelpful

We got two drink's. one muffin and 2 salad's!The food was lovely and the astrothere was brilliant and clean plus modern.Only thing: To get to this cafe you need to go through the ikea store that can be quite tempting to buy!

Great trouble free day out and plenty to see, and buy and eat - all the usual favourites but I can never not order their meatballs - I don't go that often!
