Idle Hands in Manchester

Visited again after a good while since the last time. Espresso and malted choc pie. Coffee was so bursting with flavour, puts my home bean to cup and beans to shame. Also the pie was good with vanilla choc and malt hits. Glad I returned.

Was recommended here by the girl at my hotel she said she comes all the time, was absolutely spot on! Coffee was amazing, veggie brunch was delicious, staff amazing and haven’t seen a pie display that good anywhere else in the UK!

Honestly, this place is just fantastic. They sell incredible coffee (alongside a bunch of other delicious drinks), have a varied breakfast/brunch menu and sell a gorgeous selection of brownies, cookies and pies. The staff are always really friendly and the atmosphere is just lovely. My favourite brunch spot in Manchester.

Seen this advertised on social media so thought we go and visit as a family breakfast. It’s expensive but good. When you walk in the place has a like calming influence and the clientele are somewhat student like (that’s the polite way). Anyway let’s not judge we here for the food. Me and the lad ordered the meat breakfast with an extra poached egg for good measure. My wife ordered the avocado on toast and daughter ordered cheese on toast. All came out fast and all were eaten. Very nice and would recommend the food. Would return but if you like me and a man of the 1970’s be open minded when you walk in. (I’ll leave it at that)

I came here for coffee, I had an Americano with soya milk and it was strong and short to be succinct. So it’s good for people who prefer a small volume of strong coffee rather than a big mug like the chains give you. Atmosphere is very quirky, I liked the interior. However, coffee here was very expensive, I paid £3.40 which was much more than what I pay at other places where I usually £2.60-£3. Although the coffee was decent, I would prefer to go elsewhere as there are many cheaper coffee shops that serve great coffee.

My daughter & I enjoyed a delicious slice of lemon meringue pie here. The coffee is excellent too. Nice feel about the place and staff so pleasant. I can highly recommend a visit.

We were so excited to go and try the pies & hot chocolates here but were so disappointed. Whilst the food and drink were fine, one of the staff was so rude that she completely ruined our experience. I felt like she was actively angry with me, she was miserable when serving us and then slammed our drinks down on the table when serving them. I've never given a bad review like this but it was shocking and we definitely wouldn't go back!

Good selection of coffee, plus nice options for brunch or cake/pies. Been here several times for coffee which is always good, doesn’t take long. Stopped for brunch which was quick and tasty, good veggie options too. Nice selection of sauces and magazines too!

Lovely coffee, and the food is tasty. The service however can be slow. When we visited last we were waiting for around 40 minutes for a egg and sausage barm each (they were tasty, but perhaps had a little too much pesto or herb? oil on the bottom). We also ordered orange juice and they let us know that they didn’t have any in the fridge so there would be a delay, so the update was appreciated.

I visited with a friend to get a slice of pie to takeaway: my choice was the Boston Cream Pie. Light yet creamy, it made for a sweet pudding!

Worst food quality with worst service. Baps were well burnt. Took long time to cook which explains they ensured it was burnt properly. Two of the orders were perfectly burnt from one side. When complained, they started justifying and then said noted. Avoid this place at all costs. Not sure if they ever have repeat clients.

How to get a breakfast bap very wrong: burn the bap, burn the bacon, undercook the egg, add pesto sauce (not listed on the menu) and take AGES doing it. Maybe the 'chef' was having a bad day. I'll never know.

First time here whilst on a birthday night away. Delicious and unique veggie breakfast!! Flavour combinations a delight! Other menu items the Turkish eggs and meat breakfasts we all thoroughly enjoyed!!

The last time we visited Idle Hands it was a wee cafe on the station approach. The vegan breakfast was fabulous and we vowed to return. The cafe is now in much bigger premises in the Northern Quarter, not too far from the station. But thankfully they still serve a couple of great vegan breakfasts. They don’t use meat-substitutes so their “fry-up” is a tower of veg, cowboy bean, proper hash browns, avocado mash and other delicious things. My wife had the avocado mash on sourdough toast - be warned the two slice version is huge! The mash was a mix of avocado and greens, it was topped with fresh pickles. Both breakfasts were delicious and filling. The vegan pies looked good but I was a bit full to justify a slice!

I've been here many times, and it's definitely my favourite cafe in Manchester :) It's hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre but is still a great spot for people-watching, and always has an energetic, friendly vibe (yes, even on rainy days!) The food is fantastic, and, though it seems expensive, the portion sizes and quality are better than most places of a similar ilk. There's a lot of culinary creativity on show, with rotating weekend specials, unique pie flavours and seasonal grub. You get a lot for your money, with chutneys, pickles and greens alongside your main meal. The staff can seem unfriendly, sure, but they're pretty cool, and are clearly passionate about what they do. Personally, I recommend the vegan stack, especially if you have a big appetite after a wild night out. Alternatively, for lighter fare, try the Cowboy Beans - a hearty amount of plant-based protein in a rich, slightly spicy tomato sauce!

Had brunch at Idle Hands, great Coffee choice and quite amazing bread wrapped our very tasty Sausage and Bacon, Served by a very pleasant young lady. Outstanding Art Work on the wall, sadly the one I really liked wasn’t for sale. They also provide a shop window of great House Plants for sale. I came to idle hands through a recommendation of another coffee lover so I was excited to give it a go. The interior is really interesting with lots of light bare wood and plants EvErYwHeRE!( which is a good thing) the flat white I got was delicious and the carrot cake was amazingly moist and spiced perfectly. I did find moments where the staff seemed a little stand offish and possibly could have been a little friendlier, but it was nearing the end of the day and I’m sure they had been working hard. All in all a great coffee shop and great cake! Also check out they’re merch stand they’ve got some really nice stuff

A group of six of us attended Idle Hands on the recommendation of a local friend. Unfortunately the service was terrible - starting with being stared at when we walked in and not offered any assistance with seating. The stacked hash browns were tasty, however were more of an entree than a meal. The “loaded fries” were fries with a few squirts of sauce and cheese on them. A disappointing experience, especially compared with Takk over the road.

I had found this place on Instagram and then it’s over one of my favourite gyms. I went in today to get a couple slices of pie for a treat tonight and oh my goodness. The vegan cherry pie was a hit and the apple & caramel was so tasty! I can’t wait to return and try more pie and other things.

99.9% of UK Train stations and the corresponding food outlets are (For mine) awash with 'standard,' 'same' and 'How much!' - And alas this has been the theme for as long as I can remember, so it is with much envy when you head to our European counterparts that they do not subscribe to the various chains and reproductions and allow you to dig up either a spot on coffee or bite to eat while in commute or layovers.

I think Idle Hands is great - not just for commuters looking for an independant coffee rather than the chains, but for everyone in the city in general. It's always relaxing and calm, the staff are friendly and the coffee is good. You can sit as long as you like without being disturbed.

The interior was very try-hard without being comfy, but the food and coffee was great. Slightly expensive, but that coffee is worth it. Well-done, and very delicious. When you take your coffee black, it makes all the difference when it's quality. We had a Danish each and it was ok.

Idle Awhile manos es un pequeño pop encantador café en el enfoque de la estación Picadilly. Metimos en mientras espera mi tren para un bocado ligero y café. Menú era sencilla pero limpia y saludable; ordenados judías mixtas en masa fermentada con un lado de aguacate, realmente muy agradable, buena parte también. Todo agradablemente sorprendida de aprender una de sus alternativas de leche era realizados leche (y no sólo soja estándar como llegar en cualquier otro sitio) - Almond White plana estaba muy bien hecho y presentado, también estaba buenísimo.

El Café tenía el aspecto de un cuadro emergente tienda, Los dos hombres fueron agradablemente entusiastas, y la clientela parecía que conozco. Té estaba bien hecho, y el tocino se sirven en pan tostado Sourdough crunchily bueno ... vale la pena hacer una parada en contraposición a la estación de trenes.

Yo suelo ir de la estación Piccadilly pasó la estación de tranvía para ir a pie a la inversa y Etihad ese camino para ir a casa. Sin embargo, el otro día me cayó en la parte inferior del enfoque de la estación. Vi los gandules manos y siendo un amante de las tiendas independientes entraron.

Sweet little place, don't be fooled by the limited menu - it all tastes lovely. The squashed avocado has seen me return three times! Coffee is nice and strong and the atmosphere chilled.
