The restaurant manager has an awful attitude. I frequently visit this HOME theatre in Manchester to enjoy films, exhibitions and I genuinely love the cozy atmosphere. However, my recent experience left much to be desired. Before the film, my partner and I decided to grab a coffee and a cake in a restaurant and sat at one of the tables to enjoy them. Unfortunately, the manager—a large-built man—approached us and stated that the tables were for those who ordered food, even though the theatre was far from full. This interaction felt incredibly rude and created an uncomfortable atmosphere, making us feel unwelcome. After we moved to another table, one of the staff members informed us that we needed to 'order' the table before sitting down. When I asked her to assist us with that, she did so very reluctantly. To make matters worse, the manager returned shortly after to question the staff member in front of us about why we were sitting there, which heightened our discomfort. The overall demeanor of the staff seemed unhappy and on edge, which contributed to the negative experience. It's disheartening because I really enjoy this venue, but such interactions can overshadow the enjoyment of my visits. I sincerely hope that management takes this feedback to improve customer service.

We had our wedding at HOME, and it was the most beautiful venue for an urban wedding. From day one, Steph, the events coordinator, was absolutely fantastic, ensuring that we had the most relaxed and perfect day. She was always responsive and friendly, making the planning process a breeze. On the day of the wedding, Steph and Felix, along with the rest of the staff, did a wonderful job. Their coordination was seamless, and we are so grateful for their efforts. Most importantly, the food was incredible—our guests are still talking about how amazing it was, even a month later. The cinema is also great and always have a nicely curated selection. The outside space is very enjoyable on a sunny day with a pint.

I have only visited the bar here and not seen any productions. The bar serves a wide range of drinks including a nice selection of non alcoholic drinks. The bar staff were nice and friendly and happy to make a custom drink. Would recommend as a good place to take a breather while in Manchester.

My group fancied a pre-cinema meal. I’d already eaten and so just got the pictured dessert: a form of chocolate/raspberry torte. It was sweet, but, in presentation terms, the spattering of raspberry sauce was a little unsightly.

Exceptional Chinese food, decor, service and agile to cater to all needs & types of guests (was packed at lunch so glad we booked). We ordered all the dim sum and it was delicious - such a brilliant way to brunch/lunch where format is getting boring now with mainstream options elsewhere and felt authentic (with help from staff that were quick to select the best on the menu but there were so many to choose from - we must return). This place is bound to become a favourite where so near to canal st - so book while its a hidden gem and take your favourite people only.

Really enjoyed my trip to HOME. We came to see 'Strike: An Uncivil War' and had a couple of beers before hand. The bar had a brilliant selection of local beers. The building and outside seating area was lovely. Staff were really nice. Only reason for a 4 rather than 5 was that the seats felt quite small for a feature length film and you have a plastic cup to drink outside.

I used to love coming here but lately Home has become more and more like a greedy corporation. Excluding standard films from the film pass, chasing up money from customers after a mistake they made, not to mention cancelling the Palestinian literature event. It is truly disappointing

I have been going here for years and years. It was originally pleasant enough ,the food and vibe was pleasant, the room itself is stylish and well lit, it has a lovely vista overlooking the area. It is pleasant. But over the years there was always a few things that made it rankle. The staff in here have generally been on the average side of the fence, a bit aloof, snooty, and not always what you would call friendly. Consider yourself privileged to have been served by some of them. One member decided not to serve us, and we overheard them saying to their manager' I cannot serve these ' insert word here' people'. Can you imagine that? We had done nothing wrong, just order food. Well I could tell you why he did it, but let us just say it isn't the first time modern progressive attitudes have come our way in there. Mind you, that was a first, it was still obvious what they didn't like about us. Then recently they started to add an automatic tip to the bill, check your invoice, it is there whether you wanted to pay it or not. Added to that, people generally would add an extra tip, thinking it the only tip being made. Things have changed in terms of the prices of the food and quantity. It used to be more affordable for a long time, but for whatever reason things have increased in expense, and the portions have not increased either. But the food quality is top notch, they have some wonderful chefs and cooks in there, they mastered that a long time ago. It is an art house venue, it has the snootiness and performative posturing that comes with that crowd, and I am okay with that. But recently it has made me and my husband feel more uncomfortable to visit, and the slights have only become more obvious at times. Which is a shame as we are a lovely non-confrontational couple who have only ever looked for a pleasant time. So if you go here, expect reasonably expensive food, which is top notch, in a comfortable surrounding, but scratch below the surface and you'll see evidence of a slightly more judgemental style that comes with such a venue. Differences are not always celebrated as much as one thinks these days form those who you think would know better. Cliques and in-crowds have their own dislikes, and this place can evidence that at times.

Their movie selection is amazing. Not all main stream, although they do have a main stream selection, their majority are creative pieces that from a variety of backgrounds that you wouldn't normally see at your average odeon or vue. And these movies are amazing. They host events and exhibits on their top floors displaying different art pieces from around the world, and exploring different cultures through various forms of expression. Without spending a penny you can experience them and the people hosting tend to me the sweetest people you've ever met. I sadly haven't been able to access their gift store so I cannot speak on that, but perhaps that is room for improvement. Maybe they could keep it open longer. However, this is the best theatre I have every been to and will constantly choose HOME over any other. Price range for movie tickets around £6-9. I would that price range is on the lower to middle range of movie tickets nowadays.

A cultural gem that never fails to impress. Nestled in the heart of the city, HOME stands as a beacon of artistic excellence, offering a diverse array of performances, films, exhibitions, and events that cater to every taste and interest. My visits always left me in awe of its vibrant atmosphere and commitment to showcasing innovative and thought-provoking work. From groundbreaking theatrical productions to cutting-edge independent films and captivating art exhibitions, there's always something exciting happening here. The theater's state-of-the-art facilities provide a comfortable and immersive experience for audiences, while its welcoming staff go above and beyond to ensure that every visitor feels valued and appreciated. One of the highlights of my visits was the opportunities to catch live performances in their intimate theater spaces. They also boasts a world-class cinema program, featuring a curated selection of films from around the globe. Whether you're a fan of indie flicks, foreign cinema, or Hollywood blockbusters, there's something for everyone to enjoy on the big screen. The theater's commitment to diversity and inclusivity is also evident in its programming, with a strong emphasis on amplifying underrepresented voices and perspectives. It's refreshing to see a cultural institution that actively seeks to engage with a wide range of communities and explore pressing social issues through the arts. Overall, my experience at HOME is nothing short of extraordinary. It's a dynamic and inspiring space that celebrates the power of storytelling and fosters meaningful connections between artists and audiences. Whether you're a seasoned theatergoer or a curious newcomer, a visit here is sure to leave a lasting impression.

We visited HOME for lunch today, a busy Sunday where the restaurant seemed full and the staff were clearly working hard. Despite this, we were seated quickly - service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed or OTT. Of the five in our party, four of the main courses were excellent (including a generous kid’s portion). However, my steak arrived overdone. When I pointed this out to our server, they couldn’t have been more helpful. My plate was whisked away and replaced with a properly medium-rare steak in a matter of minutes - and we were comped the dish as an apology. Honestly, aside from that one mistake, I can’t fault the food or the service. We’ll definitely return to this lovely spot.
