Ichiban Sushi Teppanyaki Japanese Restaurant & Take Away in Ards

The food here is so good and for an excellent price as well. We’ve been here a few times to dine in but decided to get some take away for lunch today and it didn’t disappoint. Love this place and can’t wait to come back.

Fantastic, high quality, great service, reasonably priced in comparison to sushi places in Bangor. Up there with my favourites "Kamakura" and "Oishi boutique" ( Belfast ). Deffo my new monthly order closer to home Only thing I will say is that the delivery is very slow, takes over an hour and charged at £4!

Gutted I've had to edit my review from the last time (it won't let me post another). I gave it 5 stars a year ago but it's gone rock bottom. 7 of us went for lunch/dinner Saturday afternoon (3 were small kids) there was no one else in the place it was empty bar 3 staff. We ordered sushi first (4 small portions), all fine but an hour later we still had not got any drinks and no cutlery. When our sushi came it was really good but we had to eat with our hands and we still had no drinks. About an extra 30mins later I had to ask someone could we please have cutlery and drinks. It took nearly an hour and 45 mins for the chef to start cooking our teppanyaki, I cant even say it was overly nice. Good quality ingredients but it just didn't taste amazing after we were all nearly done with our dinner then the veg were cooked and we held out our plates for heated beansprouts. All in all we were there for 3+ hours, the kids were bored and knackered. The bill was £250! It was honestly not worth that money at all and we won't be back ever again. If the food was amazing then yea of course I expect to pay a higher fee for great food but it just wasn't and the service was appalling.

Definitely come back and spend more time to enjoy the delicious food. We were a bit hurry and didn’t get enough time to eat today because had another appointment. Thanks for the free prawn crackers.

Great little place in the heart of newtownards. I sat at a normal table, but it will be the tappanyaki table next time. We'll worth a visit.

I like this place. Food is delicious and the man who served us was very positive and sweet.

We went to the restaurant and unfortunately it wasn’t a pleasant experience. The food quality has significantly dropped since last time I was there, roughly a year ago. The sushi wasn’t the same which is an absolute shame. The Volcano Futo Maki used to be my favourite but it didn’t even come close to what it used to be. The service overall lacked etiquette - the lady just dumped plates on the table without serving us individually. The culmination was finding hair in the main meal. We discreetly Informed the waitress before we left and she stated she will let the chef know about the incident and that was it. The place has so much potential and having a sushi place in Newtownards used to be great. A drive to Kamakura is worth it.

Surprisingly good Japanese food in Newtownards.

Best food I've had in years. The food was sensational, the flavours unique and everything was cooked to perfection. Gillian and Gene looked after us like family. Gillian is the ultimate hostess, remembering details of our chat and genuinely interested. Gene is a charming natural chef, who knows his craft. Not only does he deliver food that tastes magnificent but he also has presentation skills that are second to none. Thank you all so very much for a fabulous memorable evening...We will be back xx

First time ordering a takeaway from here, they were quick to have my order ready. When I arrived to collect it wasn't quite ready yet but I paid and was able to use their toilet. The restaurant was quiet, I think only 2 people in at the time so not much atmosphere. The food however was great, they didn't have cutlery just chop sticks but I was actually able to eat it all (even the rice) with them. I thought it was good value for money and I'd go back. Staff were friendly too.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for ages. I've just had lunch in it and it was fabulous. Very friendly staff, freshly cooked food which tasted amazing. I'll definitely be back. The set lunch is fantastic value.

Lovely place Even lovelier staff Great food

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We had a table booked for ten of us for a friend's birthday on Saturday night. Had to pre book our sushi a day in advance which was served upon our arrival along with a gravy boat of soy sauce covered in cling film (that wouldn't have looked out of place in my granny's kitchen) and a pea sized amount of wasabi. Even though we were one of only two tables in the place, it still took 90 minutes before the chef even came near us. Not a single apology or explanation as to what the hold up was. Two people in our party had to leave before even getting to eat due to childcare commitments and the chef actually tutted at them when they said they had to leave. As if the whole experience couldn't have gotten any worse, they then tried to overcharge us nearly £100 on top of what we owed. From reading some of the other reviews and from speaking to other friends, this seems to be a regular occurrence. In summary - Tacky interior, terrible atmosphere, sub par food and clear lack of competency among the staff.

I have been to this place twice before and both times, it was quite a cool and unique experience. Unfortunately, my third visit was a disaster. After booking, it took nearly 1 hour and 30 minutes before the main course had even begun to be cooked. When we finally received our meal and reviewed the bill, we noticed several items on the bill that we had not even received. We ended up having to stand and argue over these charges for over 30 minutes, which is something I have never had to do before in any restaurant. Despite our efforts, we were overcharged with zero explanation of what the charges actually were. While my first two visits were good, this experience was horrible. I would not recommend this place based on my latest visit.

Seems to have been done sort of issue with the online order system. But that being said, when I arrived they were very quick to resolve and get my order prepared. Customer service was excellent.

Took my Daughter for dinner. Everything we ate was freshly prepared. I have no doubt the main was fresh as it was cooked in front of us!! The food is absolutely delicious. I had noodles and squid. It was lovely with a subtle seafood sauce. She had the tender duck and noodles which was outstanding with a rich sticky sauce. I would highly recommend this restaurant for group parties for two reasons. The food does take some time to prepare, other people have noticed this and we were waiting some time but I think this reflects the quality of the food. Secondly the whole show the chef puts on would be great fun with a bigger group. Our table had 8 seats and we shared it with a family of 4.5 which was great craic! Overall a great authentic Japanese experience. Highly recommended P.S. I wrote this review and fancied some lunch. I got the seafood mix udon noodle bowl. It was HUGE with salmon, squid, octopus, prawns and who knows what else. If you're wanting a high protein healthy lunch in Ards this it!!!! Easily 40g protein 😋

What a way to end a 22hour fast! I had the Royal set meal - it was awesome, very tasting, and great value for money. Everything we had was delicious and our Teppanyaki Chef was so engaging and funny. I would recommend this restaurant to any group of friends wishing to have a fun night out with great food.

Took .y wife's uncle and aunt .3 course was very filling and enjoyable. Food plates ranged from scallops, steak and lamb .

Tasty tepanyaki with entertaining preparation and delivery. Very adequate portions! I'll be back to give the sushi a go, as well.

Excellent food, the chicken ramen was fantastic

Absolutely love this place and the staff are amazing. The food is just unreal with big portions and great value for money. We had the Sunday buffet for £22 and for starters we had the miso soup, then a wide selection of different sushi and then onto main course, I ordered the squid with noodles and it was all delicious. The live cooking show is absolutely hilarious and very interactive which is fun and the staff can't do enough for you. Great cocktails also. Highly recommended and can't wait to go back. Really really great sushi! Delighted to have somewhere to order sushi from in Bangor! I have ordered a few times now and been delighted with the sushi each time. It's always delivered when it says with a friendly face. The ramen is ok, broth could be tastier but the meat was delicious. Sashimi is really fresh and they always give plenty wasabi and ginger.

The food was delicious and the ribeye steak was juciy. But it took quite long for the food to arrive, but it was still good.

A fantastic restaurant which has been a gift since moving here! Every time we attend the utmost care and love is poured into our meals, Teppan-Genie has become a staple or our diets. Truly a 5 star restaurant!

Absolutely brilliant!! This was my first time eating here and I have to say the food was scrumptious!! I loved the Japanese layout of the restaurant and the service was impeccable. Rose was our waitress and she was so friendly and kind! I've always loved Japanese food so I'm glad I wasn't let down. I also had the experience of seeing the chef live cooking show which was amazing! The chef was so skilled and a master at cooking. The last thing I'll say is that the music choice was fantastic! So overall, an amazing place to eat and have a great day out! Full five stars all the way Teppan Genie!

First time here and loved it. Sat at the grill watching the chef doing his magic! Amazing food, the restaurant have a great vibe and all staff were very friendly, the only "let down" was a bit slow service taking into consideration that there wasn't many people in. Though still would happily go back!

Food was served relatively quickly and was overall very tasty. The decoration was pleasant and the service was outstanding. Very friendly staff who went above what was expected. Any issues I had were very simply down to my own personal taste and not a reflection on Teppan Genie. Highly recommended.

A contemporary Japanese restaurant ~ with lots of tables (for large parties) and prompt service, with a splendid menu of authentic, Japanese food. The staff are thoughtful & helpful and take pride in their business. To be recommended if you like Asian / Japanese food. Enjoy !

We had lunch here on fri 12th may. It was lovely. I got a sushi box yum yum, fresh clean flavours. My husband got pork ramen noodles, he scoffed the lot. The staff are lovely and can help recommend the dishes depending what you like. I can't wait to go with a big group and see the chef's grill skills.

What a hidden gem and The staff here could not do enough! We had a wonderful birthday meal at the teppanyaki table where the two youngest in you party (10 & 6) were absolutely mesmerised. The chef is so accommodating and entertaining and the food could not have been faulted. Definitely worth a visit!!

This place is cool. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. It is the only place where you come out full of sushi and not feel ripped off. Will be back again and again.

There is sushi and then there is Tepan Genie Sushi. We've done them all. But this place is a hidden gem! Personally I go for the Boat or the Bridge! I could stuff myself all night on this place. The chef is really talented and not only is the stuff really tasty but it's almost a shame to eat it as it's a piece of art. We come here a lot and if you do too you'll realise why! You need to be patient as food this good takes time. But chill and have a few cocktails while they take the time to put together your food. If you are in a hurry and just want a quick low quality sushi, this place isn't for you. But if you want to stuff yourself with really good food, a really good experience and friendly staff... Book a table now!

Currently writing this review in the restaurant after having baby squid and a sushi boat for dinner. Absolutely delicious from beginning to end. The service was exceptional, the staff are some of the best I have ever encountered. We didn't realise that the sushi boat needed to be pre ordered ahead of arrival but we were so kindly accommodated by the staff who, at a quieter time, made one up for us. The food was so fresh, so tasty and beautifully served. I can't recommend this little gem highly enough. Do not walk by this place, walk in!!

We have only had takeaway from here but it has always been so good! Usually get the sushi bento box and the katsu bento, both just delicious. The two boxes are kept separate in the bag so the sushi doesn't get warm which is great. The people are lovely too, feel so welcome in the restaurant even when just getting takeaway. Will always recommend.

The wife and I went and she does not like Susie food at all but I love the stuff. We got the 42 pice plater and it was full with a wide range fish. I only wish they would have told my wife her half of the plater could of been cooked chicken but she give it a go. Service was really good but if you're getting the plater be ready to wait but it's worth it. Only down side is they seem to have a set price for their food witch is 70+ but you get what you pay for which I thought was good food and lovely service. Give them a go and sit at the cooking table for a show and the heat

A marvellous place!! I really enjoyed the night at Teppan. We had the Dragon Roll to start, and they were very tasty. I ordered the squid teppanyaki, the squid was perfectly done, and was brilliantly seasoned and cooked. Would certainly recommend visiting if ya haven't already. A bit on the pricey side, but still worth it

A group of us went for a meal last night - some of us for the first time. Without a doubt, it was one of the best meals I’ve had. I ordered Sirloin Steak and was astonished how big it was. It was delicious. I recommend sitting at hot plate where the craic is great with the chef - not to mention that he keeps topping up your plate with rice, noodles and bean sprouts. I’m not in the habit of writing reviews but this restaurant for great food and ambiance gets the thumbs up from me 👍

We visited here on valentine's day after having a really lovely takeaway from here a few months prior. We had booked for 6pm, were seated at a normal table and they took our drinks order. My partner had ordered an espresso martini and said it did not taste nice and was too sweet. They had tried to offer the £120 per couple food menu which we declined and gave us a set menu instead, we did not get any other menu other than the set menu and the £120 one. I've seen other photos of other people's food on here but the menu we were given did not have that food however I did not ask them about this. We ordered gyozas for starters which were nice, served pretty quickly. We ordered some terriyaki dishes which were £22 each which we had to wait over an hour for. We asked the waiters about our food twice and they just said 'it will come soon' and didn't go to check with the chef or ask anyone. We were then told that our food was going to be being cooked at the teppanyaki table beside us where the teppanyaki chef was cooking some other food for other customers, it seemed there was only 1 chef for the whole restaurant. We eventually got our food and it was nice enough. It was fresh and hot but a bit overpriced. Then finally when we went to pay. They could not find our order ticket initially and picked up a ticket and began to read it out to us, they said we had salmon, and we quickly said no, only the teriyaki dishes and the gyozas. The waiter insisted that we did order salmon and we again said no. The waiter that served us then came over and corrected them and they again searched for the ticket and then rang the order up to pay. They also add a 10% service charge too which does say this on their menu. My partner wanted to pay by card. The waiter had paused and asked if we had cash, we said no we would like to use card preferably. She then said 'you can go to the ATM down the street and get cash though', we objected and said no. She said that they need the cash as this is how they pay their staff and they would not be able to pay their staff. We were then given the card machine, paid our bill and left. Going by the waiting time and the service when we were paying, I don't think we will be back here just due to the long wait and service at the end.

Food was delicious! The pork katsu donburi was so tender and flavourful, it was obvious all of the food was made fresh. The sauce was lovely, not something I've had before. The chicken bento was presented beautifully and my friend was able to try something new, we're still trying to figure out the shredded green side dish is! Staff were extremely polite and helpful which was a bonus. Would highly recommend if you are if the area.
