I would like to say a huge thank you for helping me yesterday when I fell over opposite your cafe. The staff, especially Hayley, were amazing and so kind helping me into the cafe and providing an ice pack and drink of water. They allowed me to sit there as long as I wanted. By the way the coffee and cakes they serve are amazing! Thank you so much.

Our fave place to eat in Belper. Beef chilli nachos are SO delicious! Chicken fajitas today were stuffed full of peppers and onions, served with salad, guacamole and sour cream and were really tasty. Lovely fresh scones and brownies and fabulous chocolates and homewares too!

Afternoon tea to die for! Came with some friends for afternoon tea and must say, this place is a hidden gem. We have had many afternoon teas in places all over the country but this one beats them all! The quality, the presentation, the service, I couldn’t fault anything. As the place is known for chocolate you even get a delicious pot of gooey chocolate to dip strawberries and marshmallows in. Our friends were utterly impressed and so were we. We will definitely be back. Thank you for such a wonderful afternoon.

We went here during Belper Pride . Having decided what to order , I went in to order it . There were about 5 people behind the counter and one customer in front . Once he was gone , I waited for some one to serve me . They were busy trying to get their orders in the right order with the magnets . I waited. One was cutting some rainbow cake in the window . I waited . One left the counter without giving me eye contact . One decided to crack on with making coffee orders . I initially thought ok they are busy but it became clear they were doing their very best ignoring strategy . I waited but it got silly and I left and said we are not eating here as I’ve been completely ignored. If you want to be ignored this is the place to go. Oddly they happily served the man in front of me . As a Belper resident , I won’t be returning.

Had afternoon tea and they catered for me perfectly as a coeliac vegetarian. For once I didn’t have to go without or feel left out. Mind was also just as lovely as the normal version. The quality was excellent and plenty of it. A good price too £29.99 for two people. Highly recommend. Nice staff and cute place too, and nearby the high street so nice places to wonder afterwards. Clean toilets too.

My husband and I stumbled on this cafe whilst browsing Belper high street. It’s the first time we’ve been here so we weren’t sure that I’d be able to find anything vegan to eat so hadn’t planned on stopping for lunch. However when I saw a sign in the window saying they did vegan scones I had to go in and see what was on offer. I had a vegan fruit scone and jam and a tea with oat milk. It was delicious! I noted they did a mezze platter as well that had a vegan option. My husband had the none vegan scone and he said his was also delicious. They don’t serve main meals from what I saw of the menu, but if you’re looking for lunch or a quick stop and tea and cake, then you’ll find something here to suit. The sign also said they served gluten free scones as well, so cream teas all round!

Cream had gone off so soup inedible, on a Saturday lunchtime. Staff didn't listen to us when we first mentioned it, but eventually, at our suggestion, one tasted the batch, agreed grudgingly that the soup was inedible/unsafe to consume and told us they would threw the batch away and just offer one soup on the daily menu. Staff reluctantly allowed us to order and pay for an alternative soup. We were later told the only two staff there that day were new and inexperienced, normally working under supervision of the head chef. Fair enough, but my review would be less critical if our complaint had been addressed and soup replaced promptly, maybe one or both not charged for or offered complimentary tea or coffee or a credit note or voucher would be usual industry practice. Previous vists for coffee or tea satisfactory. We later heard the usual chef was not working that day.

This review has been reposted as someone flagged it, but I stand by every word! Sometimes honest feedback, if accepted with good grace, rather than denial can lead to considerable improvements. Here it is, copied and pasted straight back from the email Trip advisor sent me - Upon arrival, the woman with a face shield (face shields provide no protection from COVID either way) had a very rude and condescending manner. We were sent upstairs to get a seat, but the seating wasn’t segregated in line with NHS advice (at the time of the visit and original opting of this review). We were then joined by 4 old ladies at the next table with a minimal distance in between. In addition to the sour faced welcome and close by party of 4, the reek of unchanged cooking fat (which lingered for the rest of the afternoon on my N95 mask) was an indication of the lack of pride by the owner in their own business. I have visited this establishment in better times and have been given great food and cheerful service. Sorry to experience, see and smell the decline that has befallen this place.

I’ve visited many times before but have been especially impressed with how a little cafe like this have dealt with things under current circumstances. The measures put in place to keep customers safe have been brilliant and it’s one place I’ve felt relaxed and enjoyed visiting this summer , especially the little courtyard garden at the rear . The staff are always so friendly and helpful . Always a good selection of things on the specials board ( fab halloumi salad ) & always gluten free options too . The savoury scones are my favourite , really good coffee and fantastic artisan chocolates and gifts for sale too . Thanks to all staff for all that they are doing & going that extra mile at the moment .

I had been for afternoon tea earlier this year with a friend and thought it was really tasty and pretty good value. Today I visited with my husband and the food was delicious again but the price had gone up by five pounds since my previous visit, which I thought was a bit steep, especially as you still only get one drink (a free refill would soften the blow if the price increase). Also there was a couple in there with their 4 children who were loud and disrespectful to other diners. I realise the owners can't choose their customers but maybe they need to remind people to parent their children instead of spoiling other people's experiences.

I booked a table for my mum's birthday, when we got there no table had been reserved lucky one was available. The afternoon tea was £12.00 per head for this we got a selection of sandwiches, cheap bread processed meats. Cakes were chocolate brownie, flapjack and millionaire shortbread (these are tray bakes not cakes) small dry scones, barely enough jam and cream for 2 scones. Mealted chocolate with what was advertised as treats. Nothing tasted fresh or quality. I couldn't complain at the time because of having my mum with me so handed over my £36.00. But this is playing on my mind so much I am writing this review at 12.30 at night. I have had lots of afternoon teas and this was the worse by far and one of the more expensive too.

Visited for the first time, and managed to get a table upstairs in a pleasant room seated by the window. Had coffee which was a nice blend. Ordered the festive toasted sandwich, which came with coleslaw, salad and crisps. The toastie itself was very nice, bacon, brie and cranberry. However the coleslaw was awful, very soggy and very bland, It seemed to be just made of carrots, red cabbage and a dollop of watery mayo. Needed seasoning and perhaps onion to give it some 'bite'. There were no salt/pepper condiments on the table and no dressing for the salad, so we only ate the toastie and crisps, at at almost £6 each for the food, it was a shame to leave half of it.We would go back, but do suggest the 'chef' makes a few small changes to make the food more palatable.

This place was on our list of places to visit on our week trip to this area. Lovely quaint place with outside tables and chairs as well. Two lovely coffees and banana muffins, sitting outside watching the world go by, great!!

My kids love going here. The hot chocolate is lovely. Especially as one of my boys loves dark chocolate and one loves white chocolate. It's the only place the both come away loving. Child friendly place and lots of fantastic chocolates to drool over. I highly recommend the chocolate shoes. They make an amazing gift and I am told are lovely to eat as well as look at! P.S. Went at Christmas too and they had a Black Forest Hot Chocolate .... It's a MUST have, You haven't experienced luxury until you have tried this!

Found this quite by chance but it was lovely. Staff all very friendly and if the weather is good the rear garden seating area is a wonderful little suntrap. Will definitely go again - hopefully soon!

I've eaten here quite a few times this year. Hot chocolates are the best I've tasted anywhere! The food is also great. I would recommend the pulled pork 'toasties' . Friendly staff & efficient service. This place has some character unlike the big chains too.

Came to belper as the arts festival is on and decided to have breakfast. My usual port of call on sunday is fresh basil but noticed I should cocoa was open. I had a freshly cooked breakfast and it was lovely and would thoroughly recommend it. The staff were efficient but not as friendly towards customers as other establishments in area hence 4 not 5.

Lovely café with tasty chocolates and cakes. Service was a bit random and there was a weird delay with getting my cake which ended up being completely different to the one on display. Still nice and the affogato was a welcome alternative to the usual coffee offerings.

Went here for breakfast one Saturday lunch, it was really busy but the staff squeezed us into the "snug" an area by the kitchen door and in a tight area.My wife had Goats cheese salad, I had the wild mushroom soup and my son had a ham and cheese toastie.Service was okay, but slow. Food was delicious. I felt for the money we could have got a little better. I do think the place needs a lick of paint.

We recently had afternoon tea in a very quaint coffee shop /cafe. My family and I asked for the afternoon tea even though we couldn't see it on the menu and the staff were very abbliging and made it for us. Freshly made selection of sandwiches home made cakes and scones. The staff were very polite and friendly . Lots and lots of temptations handmade bespoke chocolates so man to choose from. Would recommend the Guinness and marmite chocolate my favourite.

Have visited quite a few times with family. They really looked after us and made sure we were comfortable. It is a small place but the owner suggested we store our pushchair under the stairs and even provided toys for our little one to play with which I thought was lovely :) The food is delicious, my sister raves about their homemade coleslaw. The toasties are my favourite and the chocolate brownies are fabulous. The service is efficient and the selection of chocolates is great if you want to purchase some for gifts or to munch by yourself. Great little café and it does have outside seating too :)

My husband, step-son and I went for lunch here one Saturday. When we got there it was very busy but after a few minutes a table cleared and we were seated. The service was quick, we ordered a tea, latte and vanilla milkshake to drink and a ham & cheese toastie, the daily special mushroom soup and I had the goats cheese salad. The food was very nice and good value for money. The only thing I would say is that they appear to have grown out of the premises, they could do with expanding as it's very cramped in there (we sat by the kitchen) and lastly it could do with redecorating. Other than those couple of points, it's very good.

Fantastic food as always. I called in advance to ensure there were some gluten free options and the kitchen were SO accommodating. Highly recommended .

The food is excellent and so are the staff. It is a very friendly country style cafe with a homely feel. Their breakfasts are fab. So are their dinners and a great choice of deserts. Their pies are fab nice and meaty with no fat. Served with whatever you want. However, with their special potatoes & peas they are lovely. There is a great choice of food and it is all home made. Claire and family who run it are so nice and they are very attentive and helpful. We call it our local and we would not go anywhere else. Well done to all the staff.

I called by for a quick breakfast sandwich takeaway before work. I wanted to spend at a local independent business and try somewhere new. I wish I hadn’t picked here… I ordered a sausage sandwich for £3 and chucked it straight in the bin after one bite. Chewy microwaved pre-cooked sausages on cheap white bread with a measly bit of ketchup. I wouldn’t even pay 50p for that. The owners should be ashamed of this… if this is the usual standard of food I’d expect them to be closed down soon.

The foods actually really good and it’s got a lovely garden area, just the service needs sorting out as it was terrible. It wasn’t particularly busy but it really took a long time. We visited a few weeks later, only to have to wait even longer to be served and then after receiving drinks and and placing our food order was told it was a 1h wait for food, would of been nice to have been advised about the food wait times as we where seated or when placing our drinks order. Hopefully management turn it around soon.
