Hurworth Fisheries in Darlington

Popped in on my way past for a chip Butty, I wish I had sat in the car outside and opened them as I would of taken them back for a refund. The worst chips I’ve ever had! I won’t be returning.

Will not be returning. The batter on the fish was soggy and chips weren't any better. Overall disappointing

I called here with a pal of mine. We both agreed that the food was excellent, some of the best fish and chips we'd had in ages. The owners were great to chat with and were rightly very proud of their business and their high standards. Definitely worth calling here.!

Mostly cheap and banging,cooked to perfection and salted wonderfully. Amaizing staff and we had a nice chat as well.

1st time we have tried the chips here while out for a evening walk today got to say the chips where brilliant will definitely be back to try the fish

Delicious chicken tikka kebab. Best kebab I've had in years. Lovely fish shop chips, salad and coleslaw. Staff are very friendly and the prices are really good.

Sorry to say by far the worst fish (supposedly cod) and peas I've ever had. Batter was mushy and strange taste. Peas were watery and again strange but almost tasteless. Chips were very good to be fair but far too much salt put on in the shop. A real shame as local to me but I won't be using again

Amazong food at a great price, had a lovely parmo from there you can really taste the love that goes into the food. All home made.

A stand out 'traditional' British chippy, which has maintained its high standards since I first used it in the 1970's. Forget the multi food take-aways filling every UK high street; if you want the real deal, proper, old school, Fish and Chips, then pay this fine establishment a visit. You will not be dissapointed :)

First time there and kicking ourselves for not getting there sooner. The chips; thick cut, crunchy round the edges and fluffy inside. Will definitely be going back.

Fish was lovely, freshly cooked to order and very generous portions. Best fish and chip shop I've visited in the area.

Borderline inedible. Fishcake had the consistency of a wet sponge and a quarter of the chips were burnt. Other reviewers obviously have low standards.

Nice change to a cold sandwich from the shop , has fish Pattie was made fresh to order so a 10 min wait but was nice , had lunch time special enjoyed it tho could of done with a few more chips

We got a munch box today it was beautiful shared between 3 very filling. Thank you for the laughter aswell.

Just propped into Hurworth chippy on a dog walk. Picked up a lovely fresh bag of chips, and they couldn't have been fresher or nicer, well done guys!

A great deal of improvement is needed very poor soggy fish and chips. Batter awful. The fat may not have been hot enough?

Always a smiling face and good banter. And the food isn't bad either. Highly recommended.

Pleasant staff, plenty of parking outside, good range of food options and sauces, even do fish in garlic sauce in the oven if you want. Plenty to eat with no reduction in quality, will go back.

Amazing fish and chips, great portions at a great price

First time at Hurworth Fisheries this evening. I spotted beans on the menu, fantastic I thought! I was asked for my order, a chip butty splash with beans please. The lady then huffed and puffed and asked me if I could choose something else so she didn't have to heat the beans up in the microwave which was disappointing, but being a generous man I went for the curry option instead so she didn't have to walk five feet to the microwave. The curry quickly disintegrated to the point were I could not see the 'splash' in my chip butty splash. Overpriced, oversalted, and the member of staff made me feel awkward about ordering an item off the menu. Won't be returning.

Popped here to pick up some tea whilst staying overnight at Croft Circuit. What a lovely bite to eat. Decent portions fair price. Tasty food. Food was cooked fresh. Not too greasy. Would definitely return if in the area again.

Has to be the worst chippy I’ve ever had! The chips tasted like soil and undercooked, the fish batter was like mush not crispy at all. I binned the majority because I really wasn’t sure if it should be eaten. Gravy was watery. Was fairly expensive as well. Won’t be returning.

Very poor, the fish use to be almost the size of the box, but tonight it wasn’t even half the size and it was very thin. That’s another thing I won’t be going back for.

Wasn't impressed,first time in several years,batter wasn't crisp,no haddock ...had to wait a good 20 minutes for frying of chips and fish...prefer Thirlmere Rd Chippy...much nicer

Quite nice food. I only had the fish (Haddock) and chips. The fish was great. Chips a little to soggy, not crispy.

Not a fan, they use beef dripping here and I'm vegie (if they dont use beef dripping then the fish and chips just taste wierd). My family who aren't vegie are not fans ether.
