Lovely atmosphere with very friendly staff welcoming one into what would appear to be a restaurant in France. You will not be disappointed

This place is so good. We're regulars and always look forward to visiting and never leave disappointed. Without wishing to talk down Kelso...it's completely incongruous - a hyper sophisticated french bistro serving stunning food. Long may it reign.

Firstly the staff were amazing with me and my elderly friend. Service A1. Staff friendly, accomdating and very helpful. There was 4 people in our lunch party. My friend and I had the chicken breast with morrels and lyonnaise potatoes. The chicken was very well cooked, tender and juicy. We loved the potatoes and the sauce that came with the dish. We cannot fault it. My elderly friend had calves liver. Again tender and well cooked. I will ask for a smaller portion next time as it was too much for him. He throughly enjoyed the liver. We all had dessets. I had the Scottish strawberry tart. Pastry was nice and crisp. The base of the tart was filled with creme creme patissiere. Absolutely delicious. The other guests had pear and almond tart with pistachio icecream. Simply delicious. To drink I had the Machiatto red wine. It was fully bodied, fragant and fruity. We are all looking forward to another visit soon! Well done! A real goldmine in Kelso.

So disappointing. Unbelievably understaffed. I gather that this is normal but we waited over 45 minutes for our food. The poor waitresses were run off their feet. There is no excuse when the restaurant is full to have this few staff on. There were two staff for a full restaurant. I will not be going back, simply because watching stuff under that pressure and being treated so badly is not something I want to do again. The icing on the cake was I ordered a floating island which came with what was clearly bought custard. Really poor for a restaurant, but he's meant to be of good calibre. But for goodness sake, if management read this, put more staff on. Two people waiting on a full restaurant is ridiculous. You are clearly putting profits above both customer service and your staff

There has been a change to the interior of this bistro/ deli/ butchers. They now have paper table cloths but it still very much a bistro rather than a restaurant. The quality of the produce is excellent and it is priced accordingly. On our latest visit we both had French onion soup and coffee. Excellent as always. I wish my local town had somewhere like this.

What an unexpected delightful treat on a miserable January Saturday afternoon. Ok not a cheap afternoon out but you get what you pay for and the experience was first class and service excellent. We had a Porthouse steak which was cooked to perfection with a perfectly matched recommend wine and our party of four was very well looked after. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant and while the patron owner was away on holiday staff did not let standards slip with excellent service provided. Top notch tiramisu pud too!

I appreciate that for the owners point of view, a rebranding of Hunters was perhaps a necessary move but from this customer’s point of view ,… if it isn’t broke why fix it? Unfortunately, what was an unaffected, busy and bustling, bistro style cafe is now a staid and starched, table clothed restaurant lacking the former warm and friendly atmosphere. It used to be where you could land, perhaps with your dog and have an indulgent bowl of French onion soup, a coffee and a delectable pastry… feeling kind to yourself without feeling you’d overdone it. It used to be fancy in a casual way but now it’s fancy in a cloying way. Really sorry about that. Another one bites the dust.

The food is (mostly) excellent and delicious, the staff lovely and the ambiance nice and relaxing, but it's somewhat overpriced - while this may be 'a little bit of Paris', equality and fraternity have been a little forgotten here: the clientele was very county and one or two a bit snooty. When I, a queer man, came in with my boyfriend, we got a very hard and disapproving stare from a man (a customer, I should emphasise) at the bar (perhaps he looks down his nose at everyone). One food thing that does need improvement – the coffee. My espresso was almost cold and not pleasant tasting. A lovely place in Kelso, I should underline: very fresh, professionally cooked food that's hard to come by.

We were in Kelso for the day and a friend recommended this restaurant. It is now known as Scotts of Kelso. We both settled for Veal Escalope accompanied by a glass of Spanish Rose which was delightful. For desert we shared Crepe Suzette which was to die for. One portion between the two of us was just right. My one regret was not having the French Onion Soup. Seeing portions being delivered made me realise my grave error. Cannot wait to go back again to this fabulous culinary oasis in the heart of Kelso.

We were recommended this place, and it did not disappoint. One of the best steaks I've tasted in a long while. Customer service was excellent. You feel you are in a French bistro not in Kelso but in France. Will definitely be back. It is a wee bit pricey, but the quality more than makes up for it.

We stopped in for coffee. There were four members of staff behind the counter, busy talking to each other. After a while one of them offered to help us. We ordered two flat whites and a Portuguese egg custard tart. The tart seemed fine but the coffee was just awful. I left half of mine. It was warm, but didn't taste of anything, which is quite an achievement. The young people who served us were very pleasant and cheerful, so one star there. Another one for the tart. Avoid. There are other very good places in Kelso for coffee and we'll go to one of them next time.

Staying in Melrose to see family, came up from Cambridge for a few days so thought we would visit Kelso. Originally from the Borders. Seen the deli and decided to go for coffee and cake. Almond tart was very tasty but the coffee was tasteless, the first ever coffee where you could see the bottom of the cup. It looked reminiscent of a cup of weak tea. I should have asked why it looked as it did but decided not to as they were busy.
