Huge disappointment! As a person in love with Georgian cuisine, I wanted good Georgian food in Edinburgh, but in the end I got half-baked khachapuri, without a crust, and I’m even ready to forgive your cheese filling, but ruin the dough... seriously! Guys, I would be ashamed to serve such khachapuri. Either you were tired, or your chef changed, or you were simply too lazy to cook for you today. As a takeaway after a party it can be ok, but as an authentic restaurant of Georgian cuisine, unfortunately it no longer holds up.

Zero atmosphere, grumpy staff, horrible food, cheap ingredients, uncooked khajapurri, totally tasteless and unpleasant place. Worse dining experience for a long time. “Beetroot salad” was just sliced beetroot with no flavour and 3 sprigs of yellowing dried dill. They should be ashamed. I’ve had loads of Georgian food around the world this is nothing like Georgian food.

The food and service were excellent. It would be even better if there were options for beef or lamb-only meals. However, the traditional Georgian cuisine is truly amazing. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience authentic Georgian food.

Shite produce but absofruitly crackin grub. Very well cooked and amazingly seasoned. Hospitality is very real and the experience feels like a real thing. Rare these days. Shame about the produce. I popped by here a couple of weeks ago to get some evening scran. It was my first time and it had been on my list of places to go for some time from all the good reviews and the appetising pictures. I came solo so got a takeaway. There wasn’t much atmosphere and it felt a bit gloomy if I am being honest, so I was quite glad that I wasn’t sitting in. The shop was quite busy with all the tables taken and a few people waiting for their takeout orders. I like how they specialise in a few dishes and they don’t have an extensive menu (good thing) which suggests they focus on quality. I asked the lady for a recommendation and she said the classic Adjaruli (cheese boat) was her favourite so I went with that. Both the lady and the guy in the kitchen was pleasant enough and quite smiley. I waited roughly 10-15 mins for my order. The food was piping hot and, as expected, very cheesy which was I like. However, I felt it was a little oily. The dough was soft and contained the cheesiness quite well which is a surprise given how dense it was. Obviously a well built boat. I was expecting to feel yucky after eating this due to the amount of fat and carbs but I felt fine and not overly full. Overall, it was nice trying this Georgian food but I would probably choose a cheesy pizza with a crispier dough over this. Reasonably priced too.

If you’re looking for a truly authentic Georgian dining experience, look no further than this gem of a restaurant! From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the tone for a memorable meal. The decor captures the essence of Georgia, and the ambiance is both lively and cozy. The food is nothing short of spectacular. Chef Dato is a master of his craft—he brings the heart of Georgia to every dish he prepares. Whether it’s the perfectly prepared Ajapsandal , the melt-in-your-mouth khinkali, or the heavenly khachapuri, every bite transports you straight to the Caucasus. And the speed at which Dato operates is impressive; the dishes come out fresh, hot, and in record time, without compromising on taste or quality. The service is impeccable, with a staff that’s attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They’re more than happy to make recommendations and ensure your experience is top-notch from start to finish. This restaurant is a true testament to Georgian cuisine, and Chef Dato deserves the highest accolades for his dedication and talent. I can’t recommend this place enough—whether you’re new to Georgian food or a longtime fan, you’re in for a treat!

The food is okayish, and the service is quite bad. We ordered some Khinkalis and a round Khachapuri. The Khinkalis did not have much flavour and came with very little broth. The Khachapuri tasted like a cheap pizza full of cheese and did not offer much flavour either, as there was very little topping. But the worst part was the service: we really felt like we were not welcome there, and that they would have rather spent their time doing something else. We will definitely not go back.

"Hungry Wolf" is simply the best restaurant in Edinburgh, if you don't already know. Why doesn't this restaurant have a Michelin star? I can easily answer: because if the food critic decided to give a star to this wonderful place, they wouldn't give just one, two, or even three stars—they would give a thousand stars. It's true! Georgian food is truly special. It’s not just delicious; it’s food with a soul. The khinkali (dumplings filled with meat or cheese - my personal favorite) are so flavorful and satisfying that everyone forgets about Michelin stars altogether. Instead, they end up singing an anthem to the chef. That’s how good they are. My second recommendation is the classic pie with cheese and an egg on top. When you try it, you'll immediately forget why you were sent to Earth. Eating khachapuri is the answer. If you visit when the place isn't super busy, you'll have the chance to speak with the chef. That’s another pleasure entirely! This charismatic and incredibly talented Georgian guy will tell you about the food or about Georgia itself in such an open and friendly way that, from that moment on, you’ll want to eat only at Hungry Wolf.

This comes from someone who's been here 5 times (and still counting): I consider this place a hidden gem of Edinburgh's multi-cultural cuisines. My first encounter with Hungry Wolf I tried the famous boats (Adjaruli) with cheese ham and egg and oh boy it was love from the first bite. It made me come back again and again, every dish from the menu is very comforting and my favourite drink is the Georgian Lemonade with pear (note that this is a BYOB friendly place). This is a family business and you can feel that as soon as you come here because you feel you came into someone's home and try their traditional food. The owner and their staff members are welcoming and genuine, always happy to serve you. Sincerely, I thank them for running this place! 🙏

Wish I could give Hungry Wolf 6*!! Popped in just on a whim, stuck in Leith for 2 hours - the place is lovely. It feels like being a guest in a comfy living room. We had no idea what the food was, so the chef helpfully came over to talk us through the menu, and show us pictures of what each dish looked like. I picked something I wouldn't normally try (a cheese boat with black beans), and it was incredible! My buddy loved his "open heart" dish, too. Plus the music was great, there's an open kitchen, big portion sizes - we'll definitely be back. This place deserves to be busier than it was.
