On this occasion myself and my daughter had a hot chocolate which was lovely. The staff are attentive, very professional and polite. A lovely little venue and despite the cold weather outside, the lovely hot chocolate did the trick to warm us up. 5 stars

We had lunch after a walk along the canal. I had the steak pudding and my wife the breakfast hash. The food was tasty, and innovative. Coffee was excellent.

Went for breakfast and very enjoyable it was. I had sourdough toast cheese rarebit which was lovely. My daughter had a full English and I had both some of her bacon and sausage which were very good quality. Very modern cafe on the good Burscough wharf

I'll start off by saying that the Halloween decorations are great, and I love the pumpkin bouquet. Very cute. We came on a Sunday morning (11am - 12.45pm), and had a table booked for 8 plus a baby, 6 of us arrived first and even though we booked a table, they didnt know where we were sitting, we sat on the big round table and pushed the table next to it together, which wasnt a problem. We ordered drinks whilst we waited for 2 more people,waiting ages for what seemed like a long time, over 10 minutes. We then all ordered food, again, after a few rounds of drinks (pots of tea, coffee, and juices), it came. Food was lovely, we ordered a mixture of breakfasts and main meals. Everyone enjoyed the food. One of the main concerns was the lack of check backs by front of house staff, feels like maybe she was new and hadn't had much training, no one cleared plates, we had a cake for a surprise for our friend and after asking for the cake, she then came back to the table and asked if we wanted it lit up, to then come out without it lit. At this point, the table was still full of plates and empty drinks. We asked for some side plates, forks and a knife to cut the cake.. to my shock, she came out with a green chefs knife straight from the kitchen (it was only a little cake). Like I said, the food was great. Staff need major training.

just moved to the area and have eaten a couple of times at Hugos , athough the menu is limited the food and service is faultless , reasonably priced , quick service and friendly staff would highly recommend a visit if you want top quality food

Unbelievably disappointed. Had a veggie breakfast. Luke warm. Tiny beans pot; two tiny pieces of hallumi; huge hard tomato & field mushroom probably to fill the plate. Hard fried egg that has been pre cooked and sat there under a heat lamp. Tasteless hash brown & cheap white bread for toast. Avocado was hard. Zero effort. Obviously a cook & not a chef. A chef would take more pride.

Delicious food at a good price. Decent sized portions. Friendly and efficient service. Really good atmosphere. Impressed and will return.

Stopped on a bike ride for lunch. Tuna melt was lovely, but the fish finger buttie was very greasy.

Been twice last week and had a lovely experience on both occasions. Food and drinks were great, staff super friendly and helpful. Had my 3 month old daughter with me in the pram, was no issue with staff and felt comfortable breastfeeding her. Would definitely come again.

Called in with my wife & daughter after an eventful morning at a play centre near by. Found the food menu a tad small, but sometimes not having so many options is good. Food was superb, good options for the kids and a wide variety of drinks. Very fast service despite and number of tables being seen to. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, very chatty and great with my daughter. Would definitely recommend.

Went for breakfast early Sunday and got seated straight away, staff very friendly and efficient. Service was quick too, I think from sitting down to paying up we were there for 40 mins I reckon, so super efficient. I had the breakfast stack, which was delicious but I'll probably omit the chilli jam next time and have brown sauce instead, other half had pancakes and bacon which she says were delicious. Definitely be back, one observation (not a criticism) there were quite a few dogs in, some better behaved than others, so if not your thing then maybe worth considering as it's right by the canal so I guess attracts walkers.

Came across this appealing cafe by chance and it was much better than we anticipated. We discovered they do a vast range of food throughout the day. Breakfast, brunch, lunches, afternoon teas, ice creams and evening meals, it was absolute find by one of my friends. The food is all freshly prepared and cooked that day. We noticed high quality end produce, all of which was presented and served to you very professionally. We all decided on Brunch, it was fantastic. Decent prices for excellent service. The cafe bar has ample seating inside but also a vast outdoor eating area with tables and canopys. The cafe bar is open daily, 7 days a week 9.am - 10.pm Friday and Saturdays, 10.am - 4.pm on Sundays, 9.am - 4.30 pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday and Thursday 9.am - 9.pm. We discovered the cafe bar is an independent family run establishment and that itself was welcoming as its always good to discover this and support local independent cafes. The staff here are all friendly, attentive and actually appreciate your custom. Highly recommended, we will all be back when next venturing up north.

Visited today with my wife and son. Staff are brilliant. We had a breakfast which they were still serving at 1.45pm , it was delicious. Only down side lot of young mums with crying babies but not much you can do about that.

Best breakfast I have had in ages. Hugos Benefict with bacon cooked to perfection and served as always by the lovely staff. Hubbie loves the brioche breakfast stack. So pleased this place is on our doorstep and can't rate it highly enough xx

Loving the new small plates menu , everything we tried was divine .

Called in on a Friday evening and had a bottle of wine and 6 small plates - genuinely blown away! Absolutely gorgeous food and wine, excellent service and couldn't believe how good the price was. 100% recommend and we will be back.

Saturday night we booked a table for 3. We tried the small tapas plate menu which is a new addition for them. We ordered 3 plates each 9 in total all were different items. Each dish was excellent and very tasty. They are priced very reasonably at 3 for £15. Also ordered a bottle of merlot which was reasonable in price. The beer was priced at £4.80 which seems ok. We will go again soon and would highly recommend that people try it for themselves. The staff were attentive and we ate indoors but on a good warm sunny night it would be great to eat in their outdoor space. Thanks to the chef and waiting on staff for serving us.

Quite a nice place to meet and eat. One criticism would be that, when you order tea, it comes in a tiny pot with a tiny cup and an even smaller jug of milk. For the same price you can get a larger tea elsewhere, and in a larger teapot.

Excellent food and great service. Can't say anymore. Well worth a visit. First time here but won't be last.

Had a lovely lunch here and would go again. Food was good quality and reasonably priced, staff were so friendly, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. I'd recommend this cafe for a casual lunch date with friends, for sure. Seating is a bit snug, so keep that in mind if you're not the biggest fan of being close to the table next to you. Other than that, there's nothing you could really complain about. Being right on the canal is a massive additional selling point as you're always able to take a stroll after your meal!

Reasonable prices and friendly staff. The weather wasn't the best when we visited but we want to visit in the summer as they have got a nice outside area with plenty of seats. They didn't have much choice in cakes because they had been busy, we had a chocolate brownie each and it was really nice!

First time visiting this amazing eatery, but wont be the last! All the staff were very friendly and professional, and the food was delicious! Especially the full English breakfast and creamy mushroom on toast 😊

Really nice coffee shop in lovely Burscough ,we popped in as we had time to kill befire a canal barge trip . Friendly good service and the teas and coffees were lovely, I got 3 cups out of my teapot,result.

Came back from New Zealand recently and met a mate here for a catch up. What a hidden Gem! Best Chai latte and bacon butty I've ever had. Staff amazing, had a quick chat with the boss who was lovely too. Highly recommended.

I had a decent full English here this morning. The Cumberland sausage was delicious. I wasn't a fan of my flat white though - it was incredibly bitter.

The service at Hugo's was fantastic, even in the blistering heat the staff were hardworking and very kind, providing service quickly as well. Also the food was fantastic, it was absolutely delicious and great value- definitely recommend the salt and pepper chips. They were also very accommodating of vegetarian members of our party with prior notice, allowing alterations to dishes on the menu.

Lovely friendly staff, really made us feel welcome and definitely went that extra mile. Food and drinks very reasonable and everything was delicious. Pleasant atmosphere, we’ll definitely be returning. I recommend, you won’t be disappointed!

Found this by chance today whilst I was waiting for my tyres to be replaced. Had the breakfast burger….wow it was amazing. Staff very attentive and fantastic service. Will definitely return.

We arrived before we set off on a walk down the canal. We were greeted by friendly staff and promptly given a menu and made to feel at home straight away. Plenty choice on the menu. We will definitely be visiting again.

Been a few times but this morning service was not ideal,food undercooked, asked the young man to clean our dirty table and he just wiped it with a dry cloth smearing the leftovers on the table

Hugo's is our new favourite place for breakfast. They also do cakes and lunches. A big positive is that dogs are welcome.

Nice atmosphere with so great food on the menu for a quick bite to eat. Great coffee as well. Set in the lovely Wharf. They have recently updated their menu which gives more options and still all great.

I only had a tuna sandwich that came with fries and extremely watery coleslaw but was very bland, no flavour and the white bread was so thick so just like eating a huge chunk of bread. wasn't asked at all by staff if everything was OK. yes its good to have dogs in there, I'm pet friendly and have my own but when someone's dog is screeching and howling for the whole hour you're in there and the owner does nothing, you would expect staff to say something for the comfort of other guests. not a relaxing lunch, food was nothing special so I wouldn't recommend or return here especially when there are better places close by that are cheaper and more tasty.

Been a couple of times. It's very clean and friendly. I like that they let dogs in. I've had a pot of tea which felt really weak. I think it was made with a one-cup bag. I also had a small pot of chips, which were very hot and crispy. Only salt for the chips (would have benefitted from vinegar and maybe a little sauce) On both occasions it was packed and I was dying for a drink so I just lived with it, which is my fault. I did think £6.50 is was a little steep for a drink and a handful of chips though, even if they were lovely. Colleagues said their food was nice too. Parking is a downside, took us ages to get parked. Also only one loo in the place so there is always a queue for it, so don't leave it till you're busting!!! I was on a work break so more interested in speed, but nice place to meet friends for a relaxed brew.

Visited Hugo cafe bar for the first time today for an early lunch. The place was very busy and the atmosphere was relaxed. The service was good although it took a while for our meals to arrive but I suppose it was freshly cooked. Portion sizes was good and prices reasonably . I'd definitely go there again as the food was good. If you're in Burscough pop in .👍🏻

Hugo’s used to be great but now it feels like every time I go now it’s nowhere near as great as it used to be. The food feels rushed and not as nice as it used to be and to make matters worse the prices have increased, went in for a full breakfast and a coke and it cost me £15. Not worth the price especially when there’s lots of good alternative places in the area. I will say that the staff are really friendly.
