Hort's Townhouse in Bristol, City of

We had a retirement event here using a long table in an area off to the left side. Ordering was easy, everyone ordered their own meal and I was informed of all choices as organiser. We were well looked after by the staff and a great event was had by all. Many thanks to Lauren for putting up with the many changes made at the last minutes!

The decor and service was great, both at the bar and at the table. The pie was not great though I have to say. Not the best quality lumps of meat. The chips with the fish and chips were nice that my friend ordered

Went for a sunday roast. Love this venue, formal dining area with lots of snug areas around the pub. Great staff, polite and efficient. Food was great.

A real hidden gem in the heart of Bristol. Lovely rooms and great ambience. Thanks to Lauren for great communication and help before our stay and Ali for looking after us at breakfast. Breakfast was really good and freshly cooked to order. The entire team were fantastic and we'll definitely be back.

Stayed at Hort’s Townhouse in Bristol for two nights and loved it. The place has a great Art Deco vibe, the room was spotless and spacious, and the bed was solid. Perfect location for exploring the city, and the bar/restaurant had a great atmosphere. Big shoutout to Lauren, Fraser, and Charles for making the stay even better—top-notch service. Would definitely stay again.

Have stayed a few times now it’s a beautiful hotel and the bar is lovely to recommend this hotel to anyone already booked agen for June anytime in Bristol will always stay here also perfect location for all places

We stayed for the fourth time recently at this wonderful little gem. We had a few niggly issues but Lauren, Desk Manager played a blinder and sorted us out. Missing a trick in room 20/1, can't remember which. Large space in the corner of the room that has a small chair and small gold coloured surface/table. I'm sure there's enough room here for a small 2 seater sofa which would add enormously to the room, looks a bit sad when you're perched on the not too comfortable chair all alone. Super baths in the rooms we had and the showers are fabulous too. Happy waiting staff at breakfast too. We'll be back again. Second stay at Horts. We were in the Feature Boutique this time, some great features especially the round recessed ceiling light which was like having a ceiling window. It was a cold weekend, bathroom chilly but did warm slightly after we turned on the electric towel rail. For some reason the air con went into standby at random times. Had dinner one night and Jamie the Manager played a blinder with service and chat. Mussels were lovely and plump whilst the fish very tasty with batter light and crispy. Housekeeping lady was very helpful and customer focused. Three things we missed that we would have liked. Tissues, slippers and feather pillows. 5stars if provided. Definitely stay again.

We enjoyed breakfast and Sunday lunch here during our stay. The room was also really nicely done up and comfortable.

Would just like to thank Alan and Charles for their help since the epic failure of Christmas Day. I hope you have a fantastic New Years eve there.

UPDATE: I have now spoken to Charles, the manager, who was extremely apologetic and honest about the situation on Christmas Day, which included having to send a chef home ill. He has done what he can to alleviate our disappointment, and I have to give him credit for that. We will return, as suggested, as I can see from reviews that our experience is unusual. A great follow-up from Charles. Christmas dinner. Took 45 minutes for our starters to arrive which were just OK. It's now 3.30pm and we booked for 2pm. We are sat with our starter plates still and no sign of our main course. No apology or communication at all. Just brought the mains and then realised the starter plates still there. No attention to detail.Mains were awful. Duck Wellington extremely overcooked and tough and came with no potatoes or vegetables!! No pigs in blankets with beef or turkey. Mashed carrot and soggy cabbage as vegetables. Simply the worst Christmas meal I have ever had. UPDATE: after waiting anotherc40 minutes no dessert arrived so I explained to tge waiter that we weren't waiting any longer and we would not be paying for any drinks. His response.... 'OK cool' 😱

This hotel is exceptional, so quiet, so comfortable, just amazing value for money in the perfect location for experiencing Bristol and the staff were really welcoming and charming

Came here today for Christmas lunch, staff were amazing, food was fantastic!

Came for Sunday lunch with my mum, aunty and daughter today. I was so impressed. The roast was gorgeous and mum had the best fish and chips I'd ever seen. My daughter - who's autistic and struggles a lot with food was able to have sausages and mash. It's really wonderful to find somewhere that can cater to everyone. Your staff were the real standout. They were so kind and attentive and kept checking how the food was, offered to wipe the table between courses and they were really accommodating to any requests which was much appreciated, especially at this busy time of year. I'm sure you're very proud of them :) I've recommended you on the Sunday roast group I'm on and we'll be sure to be back. A tiny recommendation would be to perhaps consider some kids desserts and drinks on the menu? Thanks

Not one to complain, but no feedback from chef at the time or a week after we dined The pork schnitzel my partner had was simply fat and grizzle, highlighted to the chef at the time as so under staffed for waiting and bar staff we couldn't raise the issue with them You could clearly see the meal was awful Why wait for negative feedback then sort out then or after the event

Visiting for the weekend, stopped for a drink Decided to stay and eat eveningmeal, so glad we did, lovley food served by lovley staff, even the chef took time out to speak to us.

Stayed for a Sunday night and what a gem of a place! Delicious roast dinner, gorgeous, comfy room with lovely personal touches and very friendly people. My new favourite in Bristol by a mile. Well done team at Hort’s!

Great décor. Fast and friendly service

Full English breakfast was exceptional and freshly made. It was enjoyable and great way to start a day full of exploring Bristol.

I had the fortune to stumble upon the restaurant at Horts today … genuinely the best meal I have eaten out in a very long time. The friendly welcoming staff and calm, comfortable surroundings were just a bonus :)

Great experience all round. Lovely decor, comfortable seating, and friendly staff. We had the Cyder battered haddock, which was to die for. Best fish and chips we ever had, it was the meal of our trip to Bristol.

We visited on the 4th of October. We booked an area in the bar for the day after our wedding. Location was perfect, the bar is really spacious and the staff were all so friendly and accommodating. We all had the best time 🙂

Stayed for 3nights in the Cosy Room. Absolutely perfect stay from start to finish. Nothing to fault. Beautiful room, bathroom, and lovely service! Skylight was a lovely addition to the room. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Super bad experience at this restaurant. They told us to wait an hour to get a table. Which we did. After an hour outside, we went in and they told us to wait another hour (in a VERY disrespectful manner). Please, well you work at a restaurant, be nice to customers.

The food was spectacular; fresh, delicious and substantial. Our wait staff, Ed and Nicole, were warm, friendly and attentive. The place is just beautiful to behold, clean and classy. Want to go again but I live in Australia. Thanks Horts!

We were lucky enough to find this Gem while wandering through Bristol and looking for something different from the typical menus there. This place is THE MOST comfortable place and BEST FOOD in Bristol. Fraser, Ed and The lovely lady whose name we did not get, are great making people feel at home. The chef, Craig, is creating amazing combinations of flavor and texture. Next time we come back to Bristol we are staying at Hort's Townhouse. Wish we could stay in Bristol longer.

Charles and the team went above and beyond in this extremely well located hotel, even down to the little bottle of port for a night cap and home made brownies. Honestly I'm never staying anywhere else in Bristol again. The room was immaculate and the shower was amazing. Loved the furniture and ornaments in it as well a little touch you don't get in most hotel rooms. Was lovely being able to wake up with a Nespresso machine for a morning pick me up. I can't comment on the food as we wanted to explore Bristols eateries and get out and about but the menu looked fantastic. We had a drink downstairs on the first night which was lovely and had a very nice atmosphere. Don't worry about parking use the Just park app to use the Mecures car park next door was £32 for 48 hours. Don't be put off by people saying it's tight to drive in, any competent driver will have no problems. *edit* Decided to have breakfast before checkout was absolutely delicious salmon Royale is a must 👍

Brimful of deliciousness, unfortunately not brimful of people when we went on an autumnal summer weekday. Prawn toast scotch egg, who knew??!! Hope it’s more buzzing (it deserves to be) when I next visit.

Don’t normally write reviews but I absolutely loved my stay at Hort’s. The breakfast was fantastic and the rooms were beautiful. Marion and Fraser were both extremely accommodating. Recommend staying here!

Best pub in Bristol centre. Met the manager, Charley, what a great guy. Rooms were 10/10 and great selection of beers. Superb breakfast. Lovely granola. Lovely croissant. Nice tableware.

Came for a quick meal and a drink, Was served by Jack, was; quick, friendly and efficient. Overall very good experience thank you very much.

We were a big group and they were very accommodating, we had to do their pre-order system which worked well and their communication was excellent as was the service from every member of the team. The food was well presented and tasted superb.

A local who regularly eats here, but going to keep away for a while as something has gone off. When I hear the bell from the kitchen for my food (in what was then an empty place), wait 3 mins to see if anyone is moving, then have to finally go up to the bar to say it's now been 50mins and I've never waited this long when it's actually busy, the response was 'oh I heard the bell go'. Already had been unsolicitedly given an extra glass of wine after 32mins saying it would be 10 more mins as they've been very busy. If I'd been asked, I would have preferred a refund of the first glass as only drink wine with food... And whoever replies to reviews, please don't on this case. I've given a very factually accurate account of my evening, an insipid reply might prompt me to give my opinion. And I do want to give you my custom once again at some point.

Fabulous lunch experience. We had the lamb sausage roll, the prawn toast scotch egg and the truffle fries. All excellent but the scotch egg in particular was outstanding. All very reasonably priced. Quiet at this time but that suited us for a light bite lunch. Recommended.

Cracking little breakfast. Well it looked small but definitely underestimated it. All quality ingredients. The only thing holding it back from 5* was the cold beans.

We stopped here for a light lunch and drink. The sandwich we had was so good that we booked our evening meal there for Saturday evening. The four of us had four different dishes and each one was excellent. We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal and the service was good and decent value for money. The pub is very nicely done out and is in a nice part of town. We would definitely recommend a visit!

Have never been here before but I will be coming again! Had Sunday roast, the short rib beef was delicious, tender and juicy. Our server Coco was fabulous, she was attentive and told us all about the pub, will definitely be back again!

If I could give 0 stars to this place I would, what an awful, unpleasant experience it was. I would never in my life recommend it and clearly I am never coming back to this place. I was there with a party of 8 for dinner, we sat at your table and were told someone was coming to take our order, after about 20 mins of waiting one of the 3 staff members came to tell us that they were understaffed and we need to come and order at the bar, okay no worries! we did and everyone ordered at the same time. The order and time in which the food came out was appalling; the person who ordered last got their food before anybody then when they finished their food, two other people at our table got their meals, then when they finished their food two more got theirs and myself and one more person just sat there waiting for more than a God forsaken hour for a rare steak as thin as paper, seriously how long does that even take to cook? Just ridiculous. The last two finished their meal and we still waited a while before saying anything meanwhile food was being served to the other tables, even smaller side dishes were coming out of the kitchen, I was so offended and disappointed, clearly the kitchen lost my order. The person serving tables could clearly see we didn’t get our food but not once he bothered to come and at least acknowledge the problem. Your staff was busier mocking around “hosting” a lame pub quiz and that made it all even more pathetic. I got tired of waiting and grabbed your staff’s attention and before I could say a word he interrupted me and said “I know, I know and I’m very sorry but the food is prepared on a first come- first served basis” that was it for me, I was starving, I ordered my food at the same time as everyone else on my table, actually the person who got their food first and I went to the bar TOGETHER to place our orders. I did not appreciate the stand he took and I tried to explain that if that was true I would have been eating more than an hour ago. He left and spoke to the kitchen staff, came back and said “it’ll be about 10 more minutes” I waited so long that I was past the point of hunger, my appetite got ruined by the incompetence and poor response of your staff, so I instructed him to cancel my order and issue me a refund. Now you might be thinking the restaurant was at full capacity but no, there were indeed only two other small tables and us. Anyway, I was asked to go to the bar to get my refund, the other staff member that issued me the refund was very condescending and pushy “well I’m very sorry, your refund is issued but just so you know we are still cooking your food so you should eat” I was very clear when I said do not cook the food, I am not hungry any more and I’m not going to seat there and eat while the rest of the table just stares and waits for me, this was supposed to be a pleasant dinner party, I was supposed to eat with the rest of the table, not like this. Well, it was like talking to a brick wall, I went outside for air and when I came back the food was on the table, as if the entire situation wasn’t ridiculous and embarrassing enough, now you put me in a position where I have everyone at the table watching me and expecting me to eat when my stomach is in knots, my appetite is gone and I clearly said do not cook the food. You embarrassed me so much, I’m not a dog to eat on command, whenever your people decides it’s now viable to toss a steak in a pan for 15 seconds and put it on a plate for me, I told you explicitly to not cook it after I got my money back, what was all that about? Absolutely disgusting and tone-deaf attitude from all of your staff. I hated my experience there, it was a total waste of time and I regret it immensely.

Absolutely abysmal service. We lasted all of 5 minutes before walking out. I booked a table for 5 online via their website a few hours in advance of our arrival. When we arrived the staff were clueless because I wasn't on the piece of paper they print out first thing in the morning and again mid afternoon! Eventually they found us on the computer but were clearly concerned on where they were going to seat us, after a couple of minutes under the breath discussions they eventually decided on what to do. Admittedly at this point I made the situation far more complicated for any bar/restaurant to cope with when I asked if they could accommodate an additional 2 people who had decided to join us a bit later on. This request now resulted in the table they were going to sit us at being taken by other customers (no one else was actually waiting for a table btw) and the only table available was in the main bar with just a few seats around it. Bearing in mind the entire back area of the restaurant was completely empty but the bar man kept saying that the place was fully booked from 3pm with a big party of 40 and no seats were available. This was at 12:45 and the table I had booked was for a 2 hour window anyway. At this point a wedding party walked in and claimed the table in the main bar. To be fair the staff did speak to them and say that it was our table but the party announced that there were 28 of them descending on the bar. This was the final nail, there was no way we were hanging around any longer, if they can't accommodate 5 people who had booked in advance there was no way they could cope with an impromptu party of 28 and we just left the chaos and went elsewhere. It was clearly amateur hour. What's the point of an online booking system if you refer to a scrap of paper that's printed twice a day. You have a completely empty bar/restaurant but you can't sit anyone because customers will arrive in over 2 hours and you are effectively turning away customers who've legitimately booked.

I spent a night here with my friend and we were highly impressed by everything to do with the room. We didn't happen to eat here so I can't comment on the food. But the staff were all very friendly and accomodating, we left our bags at reception as we had arrived before our room was ready and the staff had brought them up to our room for us. Highly recommend

Sunday beef roast. Seriously delicious, elevated cooking. Slow cooked short rib and perfect veg. Yummy!

Overall an ok experience. Room was spotless and the young team members are great. We feel the description and images don’t match the rooms types. It’s misleading and we actually wonder if some of the rooms stated actually exist. Beware that there are currently building works going on right outside the hotel.

Boutique bed and breakfast. Room was great, great decor throughout the whole place with atmosphere in the pub downstairs. Was worried as we checked in as it was very busy downstairs however could not heard anything in the room directly above. Cannot give 5* as the breakfast on the last morning fell short. Numerous items were missing/not available (was told delivery did not turn up). These could easily have been rectified with a trip to the local supermarket. Otherwise breakfast tasted good cold bathroom as others have mentioned. Would stay again so it did plenty enough.

Our room was broken into and laptop and jewellery stolen. And the hotel's customer service has been terrible -- they have now stopped responding to us for over a week. When we returned to our room after the theatre on Friday 9th Feb, we found the contents of our bags strewn across the floor and a laptop, headphones, rucksack and jewellery missing. The staff told us to wait by the bar and were only given an update when we went to find the manager. We were not offered a drink, and had to repeatedly ask to change rooms (only offered after midnight). We have had to chase for the next steps almost every day since we left the hotel and have now had the responsibility placed on us. Despite knowing we closed the door, and the door having a fire door safety system, we are being told we left the door open which is how someone got into our room. There has been no resolution that there was someone with malicious intent able to enter the hotel. The whole ordeal has been incredibly distressing and frustrating and has made me never want to stay in a hotel again, let alone this one. We were refunded the cost of the room and breakfast (not the drinks we bought while waiting at the bar on the night). The hotel has offered us £200 in compensation, a fraction of the value of the goods taken.

Food was up to par with other roasts around Bristol, however, the staff weren’t very attentive and we spent a lot of time waiting around and chasing people to order, despite there being 5 tables and 2 waitresses. If you go for the beef dinner, be Warned as it says on menu, it is very rare

Good value as we got a deal. Room was nice, shower and toiletries were great. For size of room it should have had a king-size bed instead of a double. The heating/air con unit was noisy.

We went here for Christmas lunch, so I need to be fair. The restaurant was very busy and they probably had limited staff because who wants to work on Christmas Day. The staff were pleasant and helpful, though clearly exhausted from a long day of demanding families. My biggest issue is that we paid a LOT of money per person and the food was mediocre at best. The vegan food, which was one of the main reasons we went here, was actually very salty and not edible. I would give them a second chance, just not on a special occasion.

Hort’s Townhouse is a Bristolian gem of a pub. On the Friday afternoon we visited, it seemed to be a hit with businessmen and students alike. Walking distance from the city centre, it is a relaxed pub and B&B with nice decor and very friendly service. On this occasion my partner and I had lunch and drinks. We had the roast pork belly, with the crispiest skin I have ever encountered. I am certain the crunch would have been heard from the next room. The accompaniments (chard and apple) were also well-matched. The scotch egg (served warm and with mustard) was also definitely something to write home about. The lighting and background music were fantastic and even the conveniences were well-maintained and sweet-smelling. Well-recommended.

We had a large group meal on a Saturday in the run up to Christmas. Our server ensured everything ran smoothly by being very attentive. She suggested we pay for drinks as we go which meant sorting the bill at the end was a breeze! Such a relief. It took a long time for the starters to be served but once the food started arriving it was appetising and the rest of the courses arrived promptly. For a bulk set menu at Christmas the food was surprisingly good. We had a great evening and would recommend Horts. Thank you to everyone involved that evening.

De la soupe aux huîtres, en passant oar les œufs au bacon puis le fish and chips, les moules, les saucisses au chevreuil et faisan. Tout était délicieux. Par contre, nous n'avons pas testé les desserts faute de place 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Chris the barman is exceptional. Makes cocktails with passion and great skill. Enjoys sharing his knowledge and takes the time to explain his methods, so take advantage of this wonderful cocktail theatre and experience and learn. A great place to be. I personally, loved the 'Old Fashioned'

Our family Christmas Day dinner at Horts was excellent.The recent renovations of the interior are tasteful and well planed. The staff were accommodating, professional and organised despite our large booking (16 people) and a sizeable restaurant that was almost full. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with delightful seasonal reminders. We congratulate Horts staff for giving up Christmas Day with their families to serve us and we recognise the size of their sacrifice in doing so.

I loved this typical looking boozer and the next day we even had dinner there. It was very good. The only negative were the toxic two middleaged geezers sitting next to us, other couples & groups continually effing and blinding like a bunch of adolescent escapees from a borstal (and I really don't mind speaking a bit 0f French, but this was OTT). Or maybe as I realised later they were anti-social wannabes trying to overcompensate being "real men" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I really think that venues need to warn clientele about anti-social behaviour as I felt ready to step in and it was only my anti-toerag radar that gave them reason to be concerned. And it's not my job!!!

Good vegetarian choices on the Christmas menu. Very welcoming and accommodated a party of 16 at the last minute when our intended venue caught fire.

Recently stayed at this hotel in the heart of Bristol. Loved the recent refurbishment however we were woken up @ 6:00 in the morning by a very noisy laundry delivery at the rear and couldn’t get back to sleep again afterwards - hence my low rating for atmosphere. What about organising this for later in the day so it doesn’t ruin your guests sleep or using a front entrance where the sound of wheels on cobbles won’t cause such a din?
