Horseshoe Inn in Argyll & Bute

We have been coming to this namesake Horseshoe Inn for 40+ years. The new owners have brought a fresh approach and it didn't disappoint. Lovey,friendly staff who wanted to be there and help the customer; nothing was too much bother. Food is gastro pub, very tasty and good sized helpings. I would most certainly recommend and we will be back..

Lovely wee pub, nicely decorated and very clean. We were in Lochgilphead on holiday, wish we had found this pub sooner as it serves delicious food and staff were very friendly and helpful. Try it, it’s great.

Absolutely delicious meal, good service. The Vietnamese fish curry is to die for. Excellent all round. Everyone enjoyed every bite.

Got a table on last minute as our original eaterie had very loud music playing, thankfully, at 7pm on a Saturday, the Horseshoe managed to get us a table, but warned we'd have a 45min wait for service, as & kitchen very busy & lots of orders in, which was absolutely fine. All our meals, 5 of us altogether, had lovely meals, and a welcome change from Balmoral Chicken & Macaroni Cheese, which seem to be staples everywhere here, dishes like Vietnamese Fish Curry, Halloumi Kebab & Chips, Mussles in wine & garlic, steak, burger, fish & chips, to name a few, and the blooming onion starter was amazing. Service friendly & polite and a chatty amiable owner. Only reason why it got a 4 not 5, was I'd like more of a veggie choice that doesn't involve spice, a veggie pasta or a risotto, but that's just my preference.

The Horseshoe Inn is one of those places that will feel like you made the right choice from the moment you step inside. The food offered is varied, interesting, very well prepared and very tasty. The prices are super reasonable and the portions will not leave anyone hungry. The service delivered by the young Team is obliging without being intrusive. If you are visiting the area, you really shouldn't miss this out. If you live locally: lucky you!!! :-D

Great meal, attentive staff, good beer - highly recommend. We ordered steak that was cooked perfectly, the battered halloumi was delicious as the batter was so light. The local beer was obviously kept well and my husband observed it was a good pint. Great selection of local whiskies. The service was excellent. Really nice atmosphere, a lovely place for locals and visitors alike. All made to feel welcome. The food was value for money and good quality. Definitely a traditional and proper pub experience. I’d highly recommend this place.

Had a great meal and the host Paul looked after us really well. Looked after my daughters meal requests which are diet specific. Best pint of Tennants lager I've had in a long time! Food was tremendous and will be back!

Mouthwateringly good- as always! Friendly and welcoming service in a lovely setting. We had the chicken kebab which is a very generous portion and the chicken curry special- which was delicious! Finished off with gorgeous sticky toffee pudding, and coffee/ tea. Was a busy night and nothing was any trouble- as always. Our ‘go-to’ place for a local meal.

Just returned from a lovely evening at this pub.We ordered the pie, steak and guiness and the dirty burger. We were told there would be a 25 minute wait as the pie is freshly cooked. So we decided to order the squid for a starter. The meal was delicious especially the pie excellent pastry and filling. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. The pub had a warm atmosphere with happy people and plenty of laughter. Will definitely return.

We stayed in the cosy wee cottage, which was utterly lovely, went for drinks only the first night and for a meal and more drinks the second. The pub is do welcoming and friendly, great choice of drinks, fabulous decor, dog friendly, brilliant food.

Great pub with rooms. When we arrived Paul showed us round, they were not fully booked so we chose our room. Head Chef Gemma was in the bar briefing the waiting staff on the specials. I asked her what she rated as one of her best dishes…. She replied lamb kofta. I had it and it was great. Also had a wonderful chocolate and coconut tart. Room great. Beer great. Food brilliant! Go there.

Such a great find. Delicious food, delightful staff and we had a really lovely evening. The modules were really fat and juicy, the mackerel pate delicate and light. The tagliatelle was gorgeous with a scrumptious sauce and the tablet ice cream was to die for

Terrific country Inn, so pleasing to see that there are still some available. Great welcome from both of the owners, buzzing bar filled with locals having drinks so warm atmosphere from the start. Drinks were well presented and a decent price which was also pleasing. Serving staff were cheerful and full of banter so made us feel like friends rather than patrons. The food was of an excellent standard and well priced, lots of gluten free options, everything piping hot and full of taste. We visited two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, thanks Horseshoe Inn.

This place was recommended to me by a friend who saw it on a TV show. I was very disappointed , it was noisy, cold and not good value for money it was overpriced. I didn't book but got a table for 3 but had to wait for about 40 minutes to get my order taken. The barman ? I think was called Paul was verging on rude to me when I asked about the delay. Food was very average price was a bit OTT. And the noise was pretty bad , including constant laughing and swearing from other customers the staff did nothing about it. If you are looking for a nice cosy pub for some food don't here.

Dropped in one evening for quick dinner while exploring the area. Traditional inn with modern and attractive pub/restaurant. Great to see a real ale tap. Excellent food and really friendly and welcoming staff despite being fairly busy. Will certainly return when next in area.

Went here on the last night of our week at Crinan Ferry and wished we'd found it earlier. Friendly and efficient staff. An interesting and very well priced menu. The food was well cooked, well presented and delicious. Highly recommend.

Another great family meal at the Horseshoe. Great selection to choose from and I would certainly recommend the wood pigeon. Food and service excellent and children's choices and portions were perfect. Our grandchildren are 3 and 5 and enjoy going to the pub for a meal. If you are in the area not to be missed but make sure you book at weekends to avoid disappointment.

We walked in for a drink at around 8pm and were immediately told ‘there was no food’. We said we were here for a drink. The young girl behind the bar said, ‘you have to go to the other bar then’. We went to the other bar as instructed and were then told that because we had children with us, we ‘had to go back to the other bar’. We thanked her and left and as we were leaving the same girl simply laughed at us as we walked out. Overall, a really unpleasant experience, simply caused by the young girl who clearly had no customer service/interpersonal skills and did her very best to make us all feel uncomfortable.

Welcoming staff, interesting old pub and good food (and a good range). Busy, so worth booking to ensure you get a table.

We went for a family meal here in early August and really enjoyed it. The food and staff were great and though the dining area was small, it was infinitely better than some of the other places we'd been to in the area - and that includes several in Oban. Keep up the good work. Hope to get back upm there soon.

An excellent lunch. Beautiful fresh seafood cooked to perfection. Haddock delicious. Wanted it with mash not chips and that was no problem. Seafood linguine also excellent. Dogs welcome and we sat out in the pleasant sunny beer garden.
