I HIGHLY recommend this place, I went in last night for a quick pint with a mate who is visiting for a few nights. I returned tonight to have more drinks and very much enjoyed myself. It's a shame I don't live in the area cos I would love to be here every night!! Also, the no technology (phone tablet laptop) takes some getting used too, but it is a great idea to actually socialise with people! Something my generation doesn't do!

Great place, I’d love to return. What really stood out to me here is that unlike many smaller pubs in West Yorkshire (let’s not pretend this isn’t a problem), if you aren’t a regular you’ll be welcomed & made to feel welcome by the staff & the regulars. You won’t be gawped at or having the bar staff & the locals wondering what on earth you’re doing there. No phones or loud music but that means you can actually hold a conversation with someone. Recommended.

The horse and jockey is a clean and warm friendly public house excellent staff and very helpful indeed with a wealth of local knowledge and very close to ossett rugby ground

Only go in this pub if you are not wanting to use your phone . It's a no phone allow ed pub .Had to step outside to answer a call and to phone a taxi.

First class beer at reasonable prices. Nice clean traditional pub, not many of them left today unfortunately.

Good beer, nice staff, great prices... but you get told off if you use your mobile? Are we living in the dark ages? Replying to the answer... Yeah, I understand that, but I go to plenty of pubs where people talk and still have their mobiles. Also, prices are not so cheap now!

Peace and quiet. No phones allowed to ring inside, no music just good old fashioned chatting. Want to hear what your friends are saying, have a good old chin wag do it here. Another bonus is the cheap price of drinks.

Been to the jockey today been a long fateful customer for over 10 years haven't been as much lately but still like a visit when possible due to moving was disappointed with the staff ,there attitude all over a bag of peanuts that we didn't buy from them which I hold my hands up but at £1.50 a bag but the dog looks we got yet in the pool room they were staring and nothing said

Door sign says it all. "Sam Smith Rules". Reply to Landlords feedback comments as below. "Sam Smith" is renowned for imposing his "rules" within his pubs I just don't want to drink in an establishment which applies such rules. I would accept a quiet "technology free" area, but imposing these restrictions throughout is archaic. If "Sam Smith" wants to impose these restrictions then fair enough but I doubt whether this business model will survive. (Decamped to Boons in Horbury. Tradional "Real Ale" pub with no restrictions. Groups in conversation, individuals quietly reading complimentary newspapers, TV Sports, no juke box, a well populated beer garden an oh, customers even smartly checking their phones!!!)

It's a great pub! It sells beer! What do you want me to say? It's a great meeting place to enjoy fine beers and lagers at reasonable prices. Always a good conversation to be had with friends and family, not to mention great staff too!

Bit weird very quiet pub don't allow phones as no tech but they have cameras spying on u to make sure yr not using yr tec !!!!

Superb Sam Smiths pub. Near Ossett bus station and its carpark. Stepped entry. Lovely atmosphere great drinks at sensible prices.

Unfortunately there isn't a 0 star rating. Warning this is a Samuel Smith's owned pub. Therefore drink selection is pathetic and what is served is unpalatable. Atmosphere, since the brewery owner introduced new rules, does not exist (feel very sorry for the landlord). If you do visit because you aren't a regular you feel a sense of unwelcoming from the locals. Avoid avoid avoid.

Good beer at cheap prices. You are not allowed to use mobile phones or tablets etc inside the bar, not even in silent mode. A pub for conversation only. It's like going back 25 years.

I have frequented this this pub for years. But today i was advised of new rules, mobile phones, tablets and laptop computers are no longer allowed in Sam Smiths pubs. Look like a new local for me 😀

Never had a bad pint of anything in this nice friendly pub tried the bitter lager and cider all good. Also nice friendly well mannered bar staff. Can well recommend it.

Typical Sam Smiths pub. Sticky brown darkened decor, popular with locals on a tight budget. Limited bottle selection but cheap and the organic lager is great.

This pub is on the up after a chequered history. Now selling good beer with friendly service to a better class of customer.
