Horn Milk Bar in Perth & Kinross

I'm diabetic so asked for beans and toast to be removed and swapped for mushrooms. I was charged full price for the breakfast and another £1.25 for the mushrooms. After paying they said they had no mushrooms, no refund offered for either breakfast, both paid for as extra. The £1.25 hash browns was extra and you only get one. My husband had no beans served on his plate. Unimpressed and annoyed! £31 for 2 cocked up breakfasts and a tea. Bacon like leather and two very odd sausages. Black pudding very nice.

I've been coming here for more years than I care to remember . Best bacon roll in the area . Excellent location if you are heading north or south on the A90. A proper old fashioned cafe full of atmosphere and charm with ample parking.

If you like slimey, fatty and stringy bacon. This is the place for you. If you are a hobbit and prefer nice crispy bacon continue on by. Cannot fault how much bacon went into roll. But once opened to add sauce, sudden ick and nope to it. Lorne was also poor, thin and dry.

Felt like a call-back to diner cafés of the 70s (but in a good way!). Had a delicious bacon and egg roll :) Plenty of tasty homebakes too

Food means bacon rolls.. Service is as you might expect. "Atmosphere" means the smell of sizzling bacon😀

Pretty sure the depressing vibe and the sad, greasy, deep fried rubbery bacon roll knocked at least 6 months off my life expectancy. Quality vs price seems to have no correlation here at all. 💀

Came here today and had 2 kids meals and 2 adult meals, drinks and shortbread. All the things we had were delicious. Kids loved the lasagne and macaroni, best morning rolls in a long while, shortbread was divine and everything is home cooked, hot and fresh. The girls that work here are all so lovely and warm, making effort to chat with us as well as our children. Lovely wee place as a pit stop and we'll definitely be coming back again.

This place has been the same for years and it is always busy but I can't understand why...🤔 We could hardly see for the greasy smoke in the cafe eating area, have they no ventilation 🤔 They claim to have the best bacon rolls in the world, a strong claim to make especially when the bacon is deep fried to the consistency of biltong! Nope my recommendation would be, if you are passing keep on going...😕

Friendly staff and reasonable prices. I like my fried eggs with runny yolks not hard, so that was a bit disappointing. Watch out for the shell holes in the car park.

Best place right outside Dundee on the motorway. Friendly staff. Large sitting space. Social distancing well maintained. Egg roll is their flagship item. Always pleasure dropping by at the Horn.

Been here many times over the years. Breakfast and cup of tea is a must.

Been open since 1960 and has the authentic look feel and taste of that era! Worth a visit!

This place needs updated, staff may have been trying to close early, but we're not friendly. 0lace not very clean. Only had tea and a cake which were ok. But not a great advert for Scotland, sadly.

A favourite stopping place for us. portions more than adequate. Service is great even at busy times .

I am writing this review as a past employee. I can confirm the kitchen is disgusting and rarely gets cleaned (when it does, it's a light cleaning). The food is all thrown in the same fryers where the oil doesn't get changed for weeks at a time to the point it does not even look like oil anymore. The owner is the worst part of this establishment as he hires predominantly young girls and is blatantly inappropriate with them. He will speak to you like you are a child and is very condescending. When I left this establishment because of his behavior he then ignored all my communications and it took him a month to pay me my last wage. Since then he has been claiming he has paid me for nearly a year since I terminated my employment so i have been getting heavily taxed for his fraudulent behavior. I WOULD AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

They need to drag this place into the 21st century! It looks awful. Used to go here as a kid and it hasn't changed at all except the ice cream isn't as good as it used to be. Not good

Stopped for couple of takeaway coffees on our way to Perth. Coffee was ok but takeaway cups were only a little over half full and they weren’t particularly big cups.

The worse breakfast I've ever had.. You need to take some pride in the food you serve if people are paying a tenner for a cooked breakfast..it doesn't take much. Egg over cooked ,black pudding over cooked and I don't know how you cooked the bacon but it ruined it, cheapest beans and soggy toast that you buttered no choice of brown or white with the cheapest spread. The only bit I could eat was the sausage and half of Tomato. Seriously step up and take some pride in a Scottish breakfast.

Excellent food staff and service

I've driven past many times, but this weekend my foodie daughter told me it was actually highly recommended, so in we went... It was like stepping back to my childhood in the decor, busy but not crowded, and really good, well priced, traditional roadside caff fare. Best scotch pie ever for me. Only one veggie main option on offer, but baked tatties, toasties, etc available. Sweet courses were blooming marvellous!

Dingy restaurant, I doubt it's been deep cleaned in decades. My eyes were stinging from the smoke which travelled from the kitchen Food was just awful, Wifes Mac&cheese wasn't edible. My fish and chips barely so. Avoid avoid avoid.

Great bacon roll but it was stone cold by the time i stood in a queue to pay for it at the till. A pretty poor set up from delivery of food to payment. This set up needs to be looked at if you want returning customers. Really outdated toilets and general decoration is pretty poor

Love this place so retro cool hasnt changes in decades however neither has the menu and bacon rolls that place was famous for have not remained as they once were that was disappointing. What happened to the loaded streaky bacon rolls that I remember.

A bit dated. Felt like the 60’s. Had the Scottish breakfast, egg overcooked, beans cold, bacon deep fried 🤢 But the sausage roll is made with proper sausagemeat. Panini was very good.

Bacon roll was delicious, well cooked and huge, good value. The Horn is quite the experience, you could be in a time machine and just stepped back into the 1970s, try it you won't be disappointed.

It is upgrade the place at horn milk bar and new fresh up more toilets upgrade all the horn milk bar and counters and shop outside too in carpark down from horn milk bar is horseshoe restaurant on Same road on perth road too and hop side of the road it's need up grade too like toilets need too all place horseshoe restaurant inside and outside signs mark as bigger on perth road too.

Took me back to my childhood. It looks like it has not been altered in 40 years. Not a bad thing. So nostlagic. Service was.wonderful as it was not too busy. Got a bacon and sausage roll that was bigger than my head. Amazing value in this day and age. 4 pieces bacon and 2 sausages on one roll. Difficult to eat but the sauce and grease covered fingers were well worth it.

Had full breakfast sausages were tainted and everything else had been sitting on a hotplate we were on a time limit and very hungry so ate some of it . Maybe a bad day but will try again staff very friendly

Maybe the bacon was once worth stopping for but not anymore sadly, The roll was dry, the bacon was salty, over cooked and dry. The small overpriced coffee was probably the only enjoyable part of our visit to the horn. We paid £21 for 3 bacon rolls 2 black coffees and a small carton of orange juice. I'd struggle to remember the last time I had a bad bacon roll, I will definitely remember this one. I'd happily pay £5 for a truly memorable bacon + roll experience and I hope the proprietor reads this message as I think you can only trade on past reputation for so long. As one of few remaining independent roadside eateries left in Scotland it would be sad to see this business close.

Great place for a leg stretch enroute south. Breakfast sausage in a roll scrumpy. Full breakfast etc available. Warm friendly staff. Building and decor looking a bit after all these years, hence 4 stars. Having said that, it's worth a visit.

As iconic as this place is, it ready needs knocked down and rebuilt.

If you like lots of bacon then the Horn is your place to go.

Hands down the worst breakfast I have ever had! So much grease on the food it was disgusting, plate was yellow from it and the fried bread was mush in oil, wouldn't recommend to anyone...unless you want to drink more grease than you can manage!

We stopped at the Horn Milk Bar again for another fantastic breakfast. The food was first class well cooked but if I have any criticism it would be serving the food on cold plates it really would be amazing if the great food was served on hot plates. Gordon.

If ever there was somewhere living on its past reputation this is it. I visited on a weekday morning and ordered a bacon roll and coffee. I ordered the large mug of coffee but it turned out to be tiny. Smaller than most cups. Although the place was almost empty the bacon roll took over 15 minutes to arrive. In fact it took so long that they had to very generously give me another tiny mug of coffee. The roll was vastly overstuffed with mediocre, overcooked, bacon. The bread roll itself was a cheap and tasteless as you will find anywhere. If they are going to continue to advertise themselves as selling the best bacon rolls in Scotland they had better up their game. I see other people referring to it as a 'retro setting'. It really isn't, it's just old tired and scruffy. It's been the same since I was a child. They need to invest some money in it or it will die.

Nice proper Scottish cafe. Stopped on my way from Aberdeen to Edinburgh, more expensive than your regular burger van roll but twice the amount of filling than the average burger van. A little greesy and sausages weren't amazing but good nonetheless

We loved this on our first visit. Massive bacon rolls in a retro setting. Fast forward two years...poor service, butter was rancid, needs a clean. 1 rasher less of bacon for more money. Bacon was also v crispy and tepid sitting under heating lamps. two good things - good tea and they sell Fisher & Donaldson cakes.

I've been here just twice in about 20 years, most recently a couple of days ago, and it seems to have faded badly. The decor, fittings and atmosphere feel tired and 'jaded' - definitely in need of a re - vamp. The coffee was OK, the bacon roll was better than average, and both seemed pricey for what they were. Staff were fine, both busy and attentive. The place was busy at 1000 - car park full, and with a coach party as well. Not sure if I'd go again to be honest, which is a shame

Great staff who were very welcoming and friendly with our children. Highly recommend. Good value. No baby changing in the toilets is the only downfall.

Best bacon rolls struggle to finish it. Staff very helpful, clean and big selection on menu from meals to cake and coffee. Plenty parking space and disabled spaces at front of building. Ramp or steps for entry. Plenty room in restaurant area for a wheelchair and shop that sells Scottish odds and bods. You can carry out or eat in. I definitely recommend it, I never pass it when heading to Perth.

Visited a while ago. The food was like school dinners - a bit grim. I get what they're going for but the place needs refurbished. I've subsequently heard about the owner withholding tips from staff and I definitely wouldn't go back now!

The owner is a thief, withholds wages and doesn't hand out the tips. Purely takes advantage of kids working there thinking noone will speak up about the money. The owner has no shame!

One star is generous, very dirty and food was not great

So my sons been working for The Horn Milk Bar for 6 months or so now. He’s 15 years old. Kenny the owner is withholding the staff members tips as they collect them all year which he keeps in the safe. He said they would be split at Christmas this has been and gone. When my son questioned him on this he was sacked. Bear in mind my son who is only 15 has been working 4/5 days per week during school term time which is illegal under the employment laws of employing children within Scotland. He has not been paid his final wage nor his tips. He is going to be reported to HMRC and also environmental health due to the state of his kitchen and rats being present. This will also be given to papers. We have all screenshots of rotas worked as proof as well as messages. This is nothing more that child slavery in a modern world. The owner is taking advantage of children and adults with learning difficulties.
