Very welcoming restaurant, the waitress was very kind and helpful, every meal comes with a free appetizer. Worth every penny

Enjoyed the grilled salmon sushi, fried chicken and beef bowl but the chicken udon was pretty flavourless. Had to add a bunch of soy and other condiments from the table to try and make it a bit better.

It’s our first experience at Hope izakaya. The food was superb and the staff were wonderful, very attentive and warm. It’s our wedding anniversary and what a delightful surprise when we received at the end of our meal a complementary dessert of green tea pudding. It was yummy with an authentic Japanese taste. We will come back again definitely. The price is reasonable and the location of the eatery is close to public transport. 👍🏻👍🏻香港人，加油！

What a cute little restaurant! On the way back from dean village, walked by and saw the lunch set. Got the lamb rack curry lunch set, with salmon tartar add on. It’s quite a lot of food for the price! Though I saw that everyone else around my table got ramen…. Maybe I should try that next time.

This is my first time visiting Edinburgh, and I didn’t expect to find such a charming Japanese restaurant here. The food has a very authentic Japanese flavor. My daughter said her udon was delicious, and my husband really liked his curry—it was the slightly sweet kind of Japanese curry that he enjoys. I also loved my fried chicken rice. We really enjoyed this lunchtime experience.

you can tell they put effort into the food, whilst not everyone understands what it’s like to be in a kitchen preparing food etc. I do and i would love to say to the chef/cooks in the kitchen that i genuinely appreciate the food that they’re making for their customers because it’s simply divine and a lot of effort goes into it. along with amazing service, which i’d like to thank Julia for being an amazing server for us today:) if you haven’t tried Hope before, you should especially since quality and pricing is genuinely amazing. 10/10 imo:)<33

Very nice restaurant in a convenient location just off one end of Princes Street. Large seating space inside. There is a large food selection, with clearly marked menus. There are toilets inside. Staff are friendly and helpful. Service was fast, too. We ordered two variations of the Tonkotsu ramen and udon. It was nice but I was disappointed by the lack of additional food/garnishings. Also, the broth was quite watery and not very tasteful. The pork and vegetable gyōza were really nice. The drinks were very nice, too. Prices were decent.

Incredible place, came right in to excellent service (food all came within 10 minutes) and delicious food. Ordered some mochi and it came decorated with chocolate sauce and berries. Kind waiters. They have very warmly decorated the place with koi fish lanterns at the ceiling, Polaroid photos on the walls. Would recommend 😁

Great restaurant! Will absolutely come back and try more of the menu. Very attentive staff too and it felt like a premium restaurant! I really liked the range of things on the menu too and it felt like there was a range from affordable light bites; value for money ramen or rice dishes up to sushi (which is priced in line with the rest of Edinburgh).

Good ramen and excellent service. The 50% off Tonkotsu Ramen (which I believe goes until the 1st of April) is a must-buy. Even I won’t mind paying at its normal price. Pork belly skewers are also quite good; though I’d prefer it to be slightly more roasted.

Very good experience and the food was great. I highly recommend the green dragon. The combination of shrimp tempura and avocado is great👍👍. The waiter's attitude is also very good and he patiently recommends various delicacies to me. Come again next time!

Each time we visit Edinburgh we come and have dinner at Hope Izakaya. It's the best Japanese food that we've had, and the staff is always so welcoming and friendly. We can't wait for our next visit ☺️

The ramen was very unpalatable and the portion was small. I had to wait for nearly an hour for the Yakitori. After ordering, no one took the initiative to inform me that the equipment was faulty. It was not until I asked proactively that they said, "I can't make it. I'll refund your meal." The funniest thing is that we refused the 15% additional service charge when paying the bill. We told the female clerk that the reason was that we had waited too long for the roasted bird without informing us. The clerk claimed, "We didn't let you pay for the roasted bird either"! Although the boss came forward to solve the problem in the end, haha, shouldn’t I not pay for the food I waited for a long time and didn’t eat at all? This logic is really amazing.

Average, low value for money. I came here to eat the roasted bird, but the smell of oil overwhelms the taste of the ingredients. The beef rice is pretty good and can fill your stomach. Good service

Stay away from this restaurant if you have severe allergies. After speaking to staff members about my allergy and the waitress supposedly “acknowledging” this they proceeded to served me a starter with exactly what I was allergic to putting me into an anaphylactic shock where I was rushed to hospital. Upon confronting the staff at a later date for an explanation, I received no follow up or apology…

Oh dear! This is not very good. Omelette is thin and dry, not ooey. Fried rice is meh, under seasoned, veg overcooked. Grilled lamb leg is dry and rubbery. Watermelon 🍉 juice is at least nice. But, yeah, who can fail watermelons?

My vegetarian partner ordered omurice obviously assuming it would be classic omurice - eggs and rice, only to find that there was pork in it, upon complaining we were not offered any recourse or refund despite making it clear it was bang out of order. terrible experience

The staff took long time to take and served our order. They even served the other table first who ordered 10 minutes after us. The ramen and the wheel of hope were good but the omurice doesn’t have anything special. The servers also not aware of their promo, we had to remind them.

It’s a lovely restaurant with quality food and very efficient services. It’s my first time visiting this restaurant, and the BBQ foods on the menu are very tempting. I didn’t order them as I have pimples at the moment, so I will give a try next time. The effective serving and service was impressive, the waiter, Ash, he observed every customer needs and would quickly serve them. I am surprised and glad to have such a lovely service in the U.K. I will be back next time. Thanks a lot! There are also a few vegetarian options for both hot foods and sushi rolls. These are really nice to suit various dietary needs of customers.

A nice, quiet and warm environment Sincere service Both waiters (Colin and Justin) have worked so hard, running all night around on the floor. Quite a lot of guests this evening but still the restaurant has offered good service and the food are all nice. Our special needs of having hot water, skipping sauces, a small portion of wasabi are all completely addressed. Efficient and smart staff. Perfect!

We were excited to try the food here having read the online reviews. Unfortunately we were left underwhelmed with the slow service (they seemed to forget where they had sat us and took 25 minutes to take our order) and the attention to detail. One of our dishes came without the sauce, which I enquired about and they brought a side of sauce right away, but overall the rice dish was flavourless. Very pricey too for the quality you receive.
