Delicious food, such a fantastic atmosphere and the staff are exceptionally lovely. Will definitely be back for some more BBQ and Udon!

Hands down the best chicken BBQ I had! We got BBQ plate of spicy beef, chicken thighs with leek and mushroom then after we got more chicken, it is that good. We also got the omurice and beef rice bowl. Great service and atmosphere. Definitely worth eating at!

I don't mind that the food wasn't authentic, but it wasn't tasty either. Very mediocre in flavour and barely hot when it arrived at our table. Ramen had so little broth it felt like I was eating dry noodles. Pork wasn't great quality either. When you eat good ramen, pork melts in your mouth, it's so soft. This was uncomfortably chewy. I'm also not sure why their kitsune udon didn't have aburaage, it's the point of kitsune udon. Gave lower service rating because we were served wrong tea and had to remind about portion of our order. A party of three and neither of us enjoyed the food. And we do love Japanese food. I did enjoy the decor, I thought it was well done to the last detail. Cheerful and lavish but tasteful.

The yuzu martini was excellent. Unfortunately the yakitori ranks as the worst I’ve ever had. I ordered 4 different items which came on one plate. All other times I’ve had yakitori each one came on its own small plate. It wouldn’t have been as bad had all the skewers not been swimming in the pickling liquid from the side of pickled carrots. It made everything mushy and cold. The bacon wrapped rice cake was particularly bad with the rice cake the texture of mud and gummy bacon. I figured the udon was safe but noticed the udon noodles were much skinnier than traditional udon and was just mediocre. I ate as much as I could to just fill my empty stomach. Dining by myself, I was seated at the first table by the entrance although there were several open tables. It was drafty with patrons coming and going in the December cold which also cooled my food that much quicker. At one point I had to get up to close the door that’d been left open. Left paying £33 for a meal I very much did not enjoy.

My son and husband went yesterday and really enjoyed the food, service and decor. My son is still raving about the food.

sat inside this place for the very first time and i can say it’s absolutely beautiful. the staff are lovely and the service is amazing. had the beef teriyaki rice bowl and it was the best i’ve ever had. highly recommend this place as it’s affordable and high quality:)

I cannot say one bad thing about this place. The atmosphere is lovely. The food is superb: we tried the crab salad, ox tongue, cabbage and octopus omelette, ramen, rice dishes, dessert, cocktails.. EVERYTHING was a 10/10. And do not let me start with the service: our waitress was the loveliest person, she recommended us stuff, even invited us to try two different Sakes. Thank you SO much for the best Christmas Eve and for teaching us that Japanese food is a lot more than sushi. We will be back.

A welcome change from the usual Japanese places focused on sushi. Excellent small dishes all very good quality and a great drinks menu too offering an extensive sake menu alongside some great non-alchoholic drinks. All thisa combined with great service means this is definitely somewhere I'll be heading back to.

Went for a meal with friends and we loved it. The sake based cocktails were so enjoyable. I would highly recommend their ramen, omurice and BBQ selection. Staff were extremely kind and attentive. We will definitely be coming back!

Great food offered up slightly differently than a standard Asian restaurant. Great menu of skewers and bowls.

The udon noodles were tasty. Skewers could be cooked a bit more, they were quite disappointing. Friendly and quick staff

Lovely atmosphere and place to eat (the decor and presentation is gorgeous). Polaroid wall is a cute touch too! I only have good words for this place - will definitely visit again :D

The food may fit the Brits, but the quality is not even close to authentic Japanese cuisine. The waitress was nice, but at the same time was using a customer table for her non-catering work. Decent environment for an izakaya. To sum up, I would not recommend this restaurant.

In here for lunch. Mains were of a good size and mine had plenty of chicken. Cocktails whilst strong were relatively small ans so expensive. It was quiet at 2pm on a Saturday.

Amazing restaurant, definitely worth seeking out if you love traditional Japanese food. The guy welcoming us was extremely friendly! I had the omurice and it was delish, my partner got the Inaniwa Udon w/ BBQ skewers and shares the same opinion! The restaurant screams "Japanese" with the decor, music (j-pop bangers), and staff greeting you as you enter. I've been to Japan before and they've definitely put a part of it in Edinburgh. Do not pass this place by if you have the chance! (also get your photo taken to add to the collection!!)

Loved the place. The waitress was always smiling and very attentive. The mocktail I ordered was perfect, they are usually too sweet in other restaurant but the balance was just right. Not the typical menu we see in most Japanese restaurant, it offered original options (we ordered ox tongue and cabbage and octopus pancake). At the end, they ask you if you want to take a Polaroid picture for their wall, it's totally optional and they are kind enough to take two: one for them and one for you to keep. They are quite perfectionists on the service they offer, the table next to us ordered an omurice and when they cut the omelet and it was a bit too cooked, they kindly offered to redo it.

Nice Japanese touch. Good food selection, try skewers until you're full! Flavours throughout would benefit from a more intense umani flavour, it's all a little bland. But that might just be my taste after having lived in Tokyo, don't let this stop you from trying this place.

It is the best Japanese street food in Edinburgh. I am fully satisfied with my sake choice as well. It reminded me a good trip in Tokyo that I ate in an Izakaya everyday.

I live on the street and tried when first open and I put my disappointing experience down to teething problems. Half a year later, the Chicken Karaage was over cooked, served without tare or lemon (seriously?), bland, but TBF it came on a nice plate. Skewers were tough, drowning in an overly sweet sauce (why would you do this?), leeks soggy and overall about as close to yakatori as McDonalds or Burger King. Nicely enough decorated and some good J-Pop, but a seriously poor execution of an Izakaya concept and worse, very overpriced, therefore unsurprisingly empty. I feel sorry for the staff. Shame, would be nice to have some good Japanese food locally. Check out the family run Vietnamese place across the street, made with love, served with a smile, authentic and delicious!!

Best Japanese food I've had in Edinburgh! The Japanese curry omurice with the bbq chicken was unreal and the cocktails were a nice touch also.

Great service, lovely decoration. The food in general is nice, especially the rice. But I am not very satisfied with the skewers. I ordered the classic chicken skewers, it is over cooked and the green onions are burned. I also order the oxe tung, it is also very dry and over cooked.

There are great vegan options, very delicious I had the tofu udon and the depth of flavours was incredible. The whole restaurant is an experience in itself, the decorations, the food, the service. My favourite part is the photo wall so even as a customer you still feel part of the family and it’s a memory for both you and them. Couldn’t recommend more

It's the best Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh. I ordered an amazing teriyaki beef rice bowl. Staff are super friendly. The restaurant decoration is so great, the great place for dating. I take friends next time to try their sake and cotaiks.

My first time eating here, I had the pork gyoza which were so juicy they burst when I bit into them , I also had the chicken udon which was fresh and the chicken had a nice grilled flavour. Overall a great meal and would definitely be back! - was the only person there at around lunch which I found weird but I have no complaints

A very nice cozy corner , in the middle of the city. It's a nice contemporary Japanese food place, with a variety of options in bowls, sides and drinks. Try the teriyaki chicken rice bowl set its quite a filling portion for one. The savoury chilli powder, chilli oil and soya sauce are just a great table set to add a cordially.

Located near the town centre, free parking after 6:30pm around the corner. Friendly staff and amazing food, my go to japanese restaurant in Edinburgh. 5*

First of all, I will say that the Karaage chicken was great and the drinks were also solid. Decor was very pretty as well. Udon was okay - very light in the broth and not super flavorful. However I don’t think that so-so udon deserves 2 stars. Where the 2 stars comes in was the weird rudeness of the staff. The waiter accidently spilled his drink all down my shirt, pants and phone. Not a little spill, a very big spill. The glass broke and we had to change tables and everything. I wasn’t too mad about it or anything - thankfully I wasn’t wearing anything too nice and I went to the bathroom to clean up. Minimal apologies and the waiter was switched for a new one, but I moved on and went on with my meal. When the bill comes over, the new waiter unapologetically brings over the full bill. And look, I’m not going to ask for a comped meal because I feel like that’s rude. But like a free drink, or app, or something of the sort is just good customer service seeing as my pants and phone and shirt were very sticky. So I pay but decide not to tip. Then the waitress gives me what I can only describe as a look, I’m assuming because I didn’t tip. Overall it was just a very poor customer service experience. The food wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t come here again.

Lovely and impecably decorated restaurant with a nice menu. Service was excellent and the food reminded me when I lived in Japan (except the sashimi was very, very generous!) They kindly gave us a free dessert to celebrate our wedding and gave us a cute souvenir photo!

What a great find! Very different place from many Japanese restaurants appearing around. Great selection of sake and very unique sake cocktails. Really enjoyed the grill selection of small platers.

A wonderful place that deserves high praise and is a gem in Edinburgh, if you pass by it then you're missing out. Between us, we had a lovely omurice that was just done to perfection and a tangy, tasty chicken teriyaki bowl. Staff were amazing; fast but courteous and didn't rush, including taking the time to go over menu options (not just specials, the whole menu) to make sure we understood what was in it. Decor is fab too, will have to come back later at night to see all the fish lanterns lit up.

Tuna sashimi is very fresh👍🏻 but without hamachi (yellowtail) is a regret. Hope they will have in near future. Skewers are excellent 😋Tempura is also great

We had a great time last night at this beautiful Japanese restaurant with the delicious food and sake!

For the ommurice, the egg tastes good, but it’s presentation is lacking as you can see from my picture. The fried rice is not very good since it’s quite hard and on the sweeter end of things. Don’t really recommend. The karate chicken is pretty nice since it’s freshly made. The udon is also pretty subpar.

The first time I have been to the restaurant. It is fantastic experience and the food is so good. The staffs are so nice and the decorations are so nice. I love the Omurisu so much!

I came in with my girlfriend and had a delicious dinner. I loved the decor and overall atmosphere of the restaurant. I had the chicken udon and she had the omurice, both were actually amazing. Would 100% recommend giving it a chance, I'll defo be back!

Very delicious food, I tried the Chasu Udon, the broth and chasu was extremely good. There is also a large selection of barbecues and drinks. I’ll definitely be back to try more!
