Friendly local pub with great live music!

Gorgeous olde world pub that is welcoming, friendly and inclusive.

Beer is cheap. Food is cheap. People were drunk and stumbling around. Not for me.

Went for the Wednesday night quiz, great fun but a bit difficult to hear. The pub was very busy, not surprising as the beer was cheap and a good selection. The bar staff were friendly and helpful, A small Dog friendly, pub with a good atmosphere.

Lovely proper old boozer, good beer, good food good welcome

Great bar, really like this bar , good choice of beers and wines, great comfortable beer garden, staff are very attentive and helpful, you never have to wait long to get served, One thing to remember, if you're having a good time and your enjoying the beer and you are of a certain height remember to duck, door jams are quite low.

One of my favourite pubs and always have a good night. Quite often, they have live music. The Vegan pizzas are delish.

How could a pub be better? Not for me to question I entered a lost soul and rolled out feeling human. Be kind to yourself. Go in for a pint.

A great little pub. The food was very good, but be mindful that everything is vegetarian.

I only visited for a drink and to take in the atmosphere, live band was playing. Staff are very friendly. Everyone was having a great night. Would definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

Been a long time since I've been here but it's a great little pub. Authentic old world pub, with low beams so watch your head. Great beers and areas for sitting. Real fire and friendly staff.

Great wee pub. Good beer selection, friendly staff and it's haunted apparently. Food was also excellent, good for vegetarians or vegans. Did I mention the beer....

I emailed The Hope & Anchor as they have vegan options and booked a table for dinner on a Tuesday. This is a proper cosy local pub and we got a lovely welcome off landlady Joanne. We sat in the bar area and ordered spaghetti with olive oil, chilli, capers and olives and a funghi pizza. The food was fabulous, the pasta dish was excellent and full of flavour... Joanne's partner makes the sourdough pizza base which was spot on and the pizza was scrumptious. The bonus of the evening was locals who play folk music coming in and playing for the evening. What an enjoyable evening we had, totally unexpected entertainment, fantastic food and a wonderful host. Easily the best pub in Ulverston and if you're vegan or vegetarian you will get well fed. Will definitely revisit.

Great atmosphere, staff and pub quiz

Nice wee old traditional pub with low ceilings and beams, no Guinness but a nice array of different beers so definitely worth a try plus it has a nice outside seated area.

This is a real gem of a place, photos just show the brick and mortar. It’s when you actually drink it have some food here you get the full experience best in summer

WOW! ~ Good Vibes What a find!!! . We booked this in anticipation of our long weekend at Ulverston. Our first visit, covering the Kadampa Buddhist Centre and other experiences, we were not disappointed! Omgosh, everything from start to finish was absoflippinglutely lovely! Great team of wonderful individuals and the menu, WOW! The whole atmosphere of the Hope and Anchor was the best vibe I have felt in over 20 years of a place, the diverse playlist, great selection of ales and other drinks. We will be back. Its a 5 hour journey but we will. Thank you Jo and your tremendous gem of an everything ❤ Lisa & Rich, and the doggoes  x

Very friendly pub to both humans and dogs. We didn't eat, but kept to very nice beers and a cask cider. Very comfortable surroundings, and a superb selection of music, that wasn't overbearing. Any pub that has Jack Bruce singing Sunshine of Your Love live with an orchestra, followed by Sufjan Stevens gets my vote.

The drinks tasted like beer and some of the staff kept bringing us drinks and checking if things were ok. There were no demonic beings or chavs which was a nice change.

Fabulous pub serving excellent vegan and vegetarial food. We had a noisy little puppy with us yet were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Lovely people running this pub, very friendly and accommodating. Even though social distancing measures were always adhered to there was always a magical atmosphere in the place. The locals and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Visited this place early August whilst staying in the area. The barman was friendly enough however the Pub had ran out of quite a few mixers so people within our group did without a drink whilst we had to rush ours and move on.

This pub was the alterative pub we've been missing over a few years. Great range of real ales (Robinson's of course), friendly staff and a great vibe. We truly stumbled upon this gem and hope to come back if we are in the area again. Only downside was no clear way to register track and trace.

Good beer, awesome beer garden and even better staff. A must visit in the best town in the north.

Would give it 10 stars for Hospitality if I could. Made our day when we attended the quiz on a Wednesday night whilst staying in Ulveston on holiday. Warm and friendly locals, great atmosphere and an excellent quiz ran by a gentleman named Tim. Sandwiches were passed round at half time, and as we had the dog with us, they even slipped her some leftover beef. #legends

Pretty biased opinion as I live here but this is my favourite place in town. Fantastic atmosphere and a wide range of drinks to choose from! Again biased but friendly and helpful staff that more than do their best to make you welcome :)

Was just going to go in when a Buster Blood vessel tribute act came stumbling out, he threw his bag of tinnies on the floor then asked me for a fight, as I was with my wife I kindly declined turned around and went somewhere else...he went back in, minus his beers

Quirky pub with good beerand music.

It's way too clicky for me but if you're into the whole bourgeois, arty darling thing, then this hostelry is for you. The staff are friendly and the management know how to deal with ne'er-do-wells
