Fun little 'hidden' bar tucked behind an old fortune teller theme park attraction. The drinks are great and there's a fun grabber where you can get random flavours and the bar staff will use those to make a cocktail. The champagne foam cocktail was incredible. This is a great place for couples.

Good cocktails and friendly service. Fun theme and atmosphere 👌🏼 Make sure that you don’t miss it in between the current construction work on the outside facade and down the stairs without flashy signage that this cool place is there.

We were a party of three and had a reservation. My friend arrived on time, was seated in our table and I was literally one minute behind her. While I was waiting to be seated a group of 5 people who did not have a reservation were talking with the host. Once the host confirmed that they didn’t have a booked table, he went to my friend that was seated on our booked table and asked her if she would be ok to move to a smaller table. When she asked why, he responded that a bigger group arrived and he wanted to give them our table. She agreed reluctantly because she didn’t want to be rude. The host seated the group of 5 that did not have a reservation and then came to me. He showed me our table. 8 minutes later my third friend arrived and while we were checking the menu we realised that we were seated in front of the bathroom door and every time someone would open the door a funny smell came up. My friend asked the waitress if we could swap tables, as we could see an available table one. She responded that they were fully booked and that it wouldn’t be possible. Then I protested by pointing out that we had a different table which we were asked to swap with a group of people that did not have a reservation and that there is a funny smell coming from the bathroom as the reason behind our request. The waitress responded to me that if I cut the attitude she would see if there is anything that she can do. Honestly I was so shocked with her response that I refused to order and asked for some extra time. We agreed with my friends that this behaviour was unacceptable and left immediately. I have visited this bar many times and I was so sad when I heard that it will close. And I am not a rude person or have an attitude. I have worked in customer service many years and I appreciate how difficult can be dealing with people. But never in my life I have experienced such a rude reaction to a genuine customer complaint. I usually don’t bother writing reviews however it’s the first time that I have experienced such a disrespectful ‘professional’ and it’s a shame that we had to change our plans due to their horrible customer service.

I read about the great ice cream in a guide, which I then tried to take away. It was delicious, you can try it. It didn't blow me away. Once you find the shop, it's really quaint and a bit 1980s. I like it very much.

We went for 2 cocktails from the menu then we went for 2 cocktails out the claw machine and it was so much fun and super unique.

Cool entrance. Magical. Raised expectations. We were slightly underwhelmed by the bar itself. Just a bar, they didn't quite deliver the atmosphere. Excellent service! Nice drinks but nothing special (personal opinion), great selection of options though. Bonus points for the booze ice cream.

I came here twice during my stay, and both times were good. I have to stay the absolute best part of this place is the staff and owner. They are all such legit friendly, kind, and awesome folks, and with excellent taste. Such good vibes here. If nothing else, I would return just to chill at the bar with them. It's the kind of place that goes out of its way to make it an experience. The decor is fun -- and hilarious. (I'm sorry, 50 Shades of Grey wallpapered around the toilets is the best use of that paper I can think of. Brilliant.) The rest is a sort of tarot/shady psychic/occultish vibe with a strong owl flavour. Which I adore. They have some cool machines to play with but unfortunately both were broken when I visited. The menu is very rum heavy, and lots of sweet fruity drinks. Not really my style, but if you're down for some vaguely tiki, easy drinking cocktails, you'll find something. The predominantly rum offering is why I brought my friend back the second night cos her fav spirit is rum. The second time we came the place was absolutely packed full, and the guys were so nice finding us a seat since he recognised us from before. That is awesome service and we super appreciated it. The cocktails I tried were fine. Again, it's not really my tastes so it's hard to judge. I tried two and neither really hit that special mark. However, they obviously put thought into them so I would def recommend the signatures to people who lean sweet and fruity and don't take themselves too seriously. So while I would definitely return for the great experience and vibes from the staff, I don't think I would order from the menu. I'd love to see what they can do off-menu. And next time, I wanna get on that Instax wall too!

Fun bar with inventive cocktails.

Was recommended to by a friend who had been earlier in the year and it did not dissapoint. Staff were very attentive, service, drinks and atmosphere were fab. Great intimate bar, even managed to get our mugs on the infamous photo walls!

We were recommended this place by someone that came the night before. It's through a little door and down some stairs where you are greeted to be sat down at a table. It's quite small so I'd recommend booking, we were lucky to get a table. Menu is really cool, there's a lot of fantastic unique cocktails as well as a full bar to do off menu drinks. There's a fun claw machine where you can pay a £1 to select ingredients for a cocktail that then costs £9- pretty fun and tbid was being well loved by a hen do. There's a DJ in the bar whose booth is set up like a Zoltan machine. Loads of fun. Mostly very friendly staff. Great drinks that aren't stupidly expensive. Really recommend. Toilets are covered in fifty shades of grey.

Had one quiet drink after a birthday dinner then were inexplicably refused another. Upon politely enquiring as to why, the staff advised they felt we’d had enough to drink and it was the end of our night. We were genuinely perplexed as we had enjoyed our lovely low-key drinks, along with some water. Ultimately we respect the bar staff’s discretion, but we were genuinely confused as to why we weren’t served another drink. The cocktails we had were excellent and the bar staff who served us were apologetic that we were being refused further drinks. They advised that a particular member of staff had taken the decision to end our service , and that sometimes “we get it wrong”. We would have very much appreciated staying on and aren’t inclined to return. We went to Cloisters in Tollcross who warmly welcomed us with some fantastic real ales and excellent service. We recommend Cloisters and Hey Palu in Tollcross as alternatives to Hoot, or Lady Libertine if seeking a great cocktail bar in the centre of town. Hoots is fine, if bizarrely unfriendly. In 2024, I’d recommend supporting alternative establishments.

Absolutely loved this place! Took a minute to find the entrance but I love how hidden away it is! The drinks were top notch and can’t recommend the ice cream enough!

Creative, fun cocktails in a quirky venue. Super welcoming staff, even as walk ins. They had a great eye for when you were ready to order and when you when were ready for another round so service was super responsive and smooth.

Really wanted to experience this bar after being reccomended from someone. We were unable to book a table as there were none available when planning our trip to the city. Headed there to see if we could get a table as walk-ins (as a party of 6). We didn't get much further than the door before being shooed away, claining the night was fully booked. We asked if we could wait or be called back, having arrived at open, offerring to go to dinner and come back at their convenience. Basicallt were told it would be impossible , even if we broke up into seperate tables. Sadly, there were otheres in groups of 2 behind us who were walk ins as well that were accomodated. First impression of vibe 0/10. Shame because based on other reviews and what we saw of the place, looked ike a unique venue.

They add the service charge to the bill. It’s not America and this shouldn’t be encouraged. Cocktails were ok but would’ve expected something a little more exciting for £12 each. Getting close to £30 total for 2 drinks is crazy. Wasn’t much of a hoot and I think they should take the service charge off the bill to redeem themselves.

Really cool bar with quirky atmosphere and nice drinks! Hard to find, we walked past a couple times but it’s in a cool underground location. Staff were friendly, my boyfriend didn’t like his drink and they took it off our bill!

This is one of the bars I love to go to when I am in town. It is cozy, not too pricy and the drinks are not too bad at all. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to try their boozy ice cream but maybe the machine will work on my next trip there :)

Wonderful little cocktail bar hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The cocktails were delicious, and the service was very friendly. It's table service, so I recommend you get your order in quickly, otherwise you could wait a while (as happened to me).

Just cocktails and drinks, food is limited to bar snacks, but that isn't the point of the place, it's cooool.

The guy doing the 'greeting' at the door is in desperate need of some customer service training. Even if it is a busy Saturday evening there's no need for the obnoxious attitude and rudeness. Asked if they had a table for 6 (on the off chance of a no show or late cancellation) and the response was nothing short of vitriolic. Then proceeded to ask the group behind if they were less than 6 and said 'yea cool'. No idea what his problem was but it's a real shame because we had been telling our friends how much of a good time we'd had in there on our previous visit to Edinburgh. If you like establishments who are grateful for your ££'s then go literally anywhere else.

Regularly came here here when in Edinburgh. Went in to try and grab a table and when asked if any were available rude waiter just said ‘nah’ and walked off. Put me off to come back again, shame.

Completely mimic the previous review - was really looking forward to an evening of drinking here until the guy on the door completely ruined our evening - I understand if they were full, but the complete disregard of our group was nothing short of discrimination. This person clearly needs to go on some customer service refresher courses, or leave the industry altogether to work a solo career, preferably nothing customer facing. What a shame!

On entry, the host who 'welcomed' us at the door was one of the rudest men I've ever met in my life. Based on recent reviews on this page, there seems to be a theme. Absolutely appaulling. Couldn't pay me to try again. Such a shame, as the bar looked fantastic. Take it with a pinch of salt.

waited at the entrance of this bar for about 5-10 mins got dirty looks from the people inside and the staff ignored me completely so we left very disappointed by this poor service

Would like to give a shoutout to Reagan (I think his name was) for amazing service making me and my colleagues feel very comfortable with his very friendly and funny nature- we had an amazing evening and you made us all laugh so much! A secret bar hidden away with amazing vibes, amazing service and amazing cocktails. You can choose your flavour and spirit and they will make you a bespoke cocktail based on that. That staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is great. I’d definitely come back here. My only flaw here, if you are doing a 50s “speakeasy” bar, it would be great to be fully immersed, maybe 50s music would be a touch as well? Thank you!

we were waiting for 5 minutes to be placed - three staff members ignored us as they walked by so we decided to just have a seat at a table as it wasn‘t full in the bar at all. after two minutes, a staff member told us annoyed not to just sit somewhere and wait at the door so we left.

Went here for a couple drinks with my husband. Had a great time! Loved the ambiance here. Felt like we were in a speakeasy. The drinks were fantastic and reasonably priced. There are bathrooms and I found them to be nice and clean. Our server was very nice and helpful. They had boozy ice cream vending machine. And they had a claw game where you play and the prize is an ingredient which the bar tender has to make a mystery drink including that ingredient. My husband and I did this and got peach and ginger. Was really worried how the drinks would turn out but we were worried for nothing. The drinks were fantastic. Definitely do this if you go.

Friendly venue with an interesting menu. Everything appears to be a take on a classic but unless you know the ingredients of your favourite drink, you might struggle to identify a drink you'll like. Decorated like an Instagram photoshoot, it feels a little style of substance when you first walk in. But the quality of the cocktails and friendly staff quickly help you move past it.

Main attraction wasn't working! Came here to experience the speakeasy and try out the flavour picker machine which everyone has said to be the best thing ! Turns out it was out of order when we went and so, it felt just like any other bar. Missed most of the speakeasy elements that other speakeasies tend to have.

Very fun concept, there’s plenty to explore in the bar’s design. Innovative menu with very good drinks and friendly service. I preferred sitting at the bar to the table experience. The Corpse Reviver Slushie actually worked.

This was recommended by a colleague and oh my goodness, we had a HOOT! The atmosphere was fabulous, the drinks were excellent and the service was amazing. Reservations are absolutely required. If you get lucky enough, you may even get Caron as your server. She’s an absolute gem and knows her stuff. We can’t wait to go back to Edinburgh, and when we do, Hoot is at the top of the list!

Very busy place in the evening, finally got in on the 3rd try. The cocktail i had was intense, a bit on the sweet side. I gave up and went all in on the slushie for my second and loved feeling like a little kid with my slurpee. The vibe is amazing, the music was dead on. My wife didn't care for her first drink and they immediately fixed her up something to her liking without being prompted. Wish I had tried the boozy ice cream but i was already feeling the effects, here's to next time!

Quite a nice quirky bar, music was OK, but it just didn't hit the spot for us personally. We really like Lady Libertine, but the cocktails on the menu here were unlike any we had seen anywhere before and out of the three we tried, we didn't really like any of them, which at around £12 a pop isn't good! Being a Yorkshireman though, no way was I leaving them and we managed to finish them with the help of a glass of water to wash them down with! We were very lucky to get a table as the folks that came just 2 mins after us were turned away as there were no more seats left, so if you really must visit, go early or book in advance. It wasn't explained to us until we were leaving that they can make almost any cocktail you like, so maybe if we ever go back, we'll order drinks we know we definitely like, so it may be a better experience for us.

I was very excited in here. Claw machine cocktail was so cooool concept and adult ice cream was super delicious. I strongly recommend pina colada flavor. Lastly, one of staff was seriously good looking. XD
