Omg! I've never tasted a sausage in batter THIS good, great size, plenty of batter and not the usual cheap tasting sausage! Fab chips, and all cooked fresh, all looks amazing! But always very busy!

We tried the fish and chips they were superb . My son lives in eltham so when we visit again we shall be buying again .and we did again today , friendly service and great fish and chips .

Tried this fish and chip shop for the first time this evening, and unfortunately have been left disappointed. I ordered one haddock and chips around 6:35, a few people waiting but not crazy busy so didn’t expect much of a wait. Waited for a while, could see people coming and going who had ordered after me, so I enquired how my order was coming along, was told it’d be one minute, so I waited again, I then had to enquire again as two more people who ordered after me left with their food, I was told my fish was still cooking but was now ready, this was 25mins after I’d ordered. Got home, starving, was quite pleased with the size of the fish, but appearance wasn’t great, with quite a lot of clusters of black bits on the batter from the oil it was cooked in. The fish inside was over cooked sadly. The chips tasted decent but not many of them and a bit over cooked also. Sadly I didn’t finish the meal as it wasn’t very nice. Overall, on this experience, and for £12.50, I wouldn’t return I’m sorry to say.

Very nice and friendly staff. You will generally have to wait for a short time for your food as it is freshly cooked to order. I only go there once or twice a month as the prices rise. On the last visit, large cod was £10 and large chips £3.50. The medium cod and chips was cheaper but not massively and i cannot remember the prices. Is it worth a visit ? Yes but not too often as prices make it very expensive for a family takeout even if everyone has smaller portions. As it is a treat for the family i dont really worry too much about the prices but i definitely wince when paying it LOL

Great fish and excellent chips, not forgetting the tasty mushy peas. The people who work there are very thoughtful and friendly. Best in area without any doubt...keep up the great food and service.

Good food, great portions for chips, best burger around. Service is always with a warm welcome. The new team have Turned this place round massively since the take over. Be prepared to wait on a Friday evening! But busy is a good sign after all !

Top notch this place, the sizes are ridiculously big! When everywhere seems to be costing more for less, Hooked is a great place to have a family treat, with value for money. The large haddock and large chips could easily feed 2 adults & 2 kids! Food was brilliant, everyone really enjoyed it. All the staff were lovely, chatty and helpful. Won’t be going elsewhere from now on.

My Pukka Mince Beef & Onion & chips was so so nice. The chips is some of the best I've had for long time. 10/10

I've heard read so many good reviews about this Fish & Chip shop, and we found that you get good portions. The batter on our fish was quite soggy, not nice, and crisp. In the future, we will go to the Vintage Fish bar in Lee, far superior Fish for a similar price. Overall disappointed.

Took my two boys there, food was great we sat outside on there benches on a hot day. The service was great, very happy with the experience all round.

New owners took this over about January 2022 (the previous owners and management were not running their shop professionally to be polite) and the new patrons have made a good refurbishment of the premises inside and outside - it’s well run with friendly staff and their chips are excellent (so many chip shops can’t even do a good job of chips) but Hooked have it to a T. You can have a kids portion £1.50 small £2.50 large £3.50. Also on offer all the fish options you would expect plus saveloy, sausage in batter, pies, curry sauce etc etc. Take away only - if you like piping hot chips crispy on the outside and fluffy inside this is your place. Hit on this place as a last minute Google at the end of a stressful day, what luck!! Delicious food, massive portions, lovely friendly service. The Yorkshire chap in the passenger seat, who doubted there were any decent chippies South of Sheffield, has eaten his words. Maybe that's why he can't finish his humungous fish. Hehehe.

Usually it's perfect , however really don't know what happened to yesterday's meal , chips were so different, size , taste, maybe a different supplier and chef but no where near as good. The rock was tasteless. Very disappointed indeed. Put me off ordering again for a good while at least 😌. It wasn't a cheap meal either £ 44.00 .

Best fish and chips in the area. Has got expensive but so have all fish and chips shops, and the portions are LARGE including the fish so can probably do with one fewer than you think you need to get the price down a bit.

Just popped in on the way past, had lovely fish, chips and extras. Great food, very clean and efficient in the shop, good price for what you get.

The chips were nicely cooked, there were big portions, and the fish was the biggest I have ever seen in London. I have visited a lot of fish and chip stores, and honestly, they are worth the price. The chicken burger—don't even get me started. It is expensive, big man. It is definitely worth it with how soft the buns are and how juicy the burgers are with the lettuce and onions, which is a plus. I just wish they provided a slice of tomato in the burger, which would go well with the onions and lettuce with it, or a small portion of chips or something as a side for the price of the burger, but it is really worth it nonetheless. Keep it up, Hooked!

Food is very good BUT waited 25 minutes last night for one large cod and chips !!!! I waited patiently in the queue for my food but when 2 people who came in after me get their food before me it’s not on . Sort it out .

Fish and chips, very long wait for it to be cooked and was quite greasy. Fish was suspiciously large and full. The chips were very nice. I would still recommend trying here.

Went there today and ordered two medium cod and small chips, just wow is all I can say the cod was big enough to feed at least 2 people and we had 2 of them and plentiful amount of chips This place is brilliant and probably the best in south east London, very friendly owners and staff all cooked to order so real fresh highly recommend this takeaway

Wow just wow. Heard good things about this place so had to try it and it didn't disappoint. Wow the cod was lovely and fresh like at the coast. Great value for money.

Let see... We were hooked so to speak and became fairly regulars as they were above the average fish and shops with quality buttered fish and more to the point quality crispy chip, regrettably the quality of the chips have declined quiet considerably ( not the same brand of the opening and not crispy enough for my liking) We are disappointed as I championed them from the beginning thinking great "someone for once understand quality fish and chips and not just Rick stein" Unfortunately that was short leaved

Nice little chippy, friendly staff and nice portion size. Really nice chips like no other crispy with fluffy middle. They are such nice chips that they are even nice cold (I know it sounds vile but these are the only chips I have ever been able to eat cold)

Hooked - Delighted to change the review following a change in management. This shop has gone from mediocre to fantastic. The menu has expanded offering greater choice and the standard of cooking has improved experientially. Chips are hot and crisp with floury centres, fish is nicely battered and cooked to order and is hot and tasty. Have really enjoyed everything I've eaten from here since the change. Only downside is with the cook to order policy and increased popularity it's no longer "fast food", especially when busy waited twenty minutes for fish and chips this evening, friday, (but worth the wait). Jimmy's Plaice - Not a great fish and chip shop. Limited food availability at 8pm. Chips were luke warm and soggy and sausages were almost cold. Disappointing.

Best chips I've ever had from a chippie in London, and it's local too.. big portions and also the option for a box for your food too if you prefer it to wrapped up in paper, very clean and a 'brand new shop' feel to the place too, plus friendly service and you can order your food ahead for a specific time (e.g. 17.10) for pick up and no queuing. sorted. 👍

Really disappointed with our food today...... the "large" cod (if it was cod) had barely enough meat to feed one person let alone 2 it was all batter! And the chips were crunchy and hard....which isn't good for my parents who are 91 & 85 who usually love a bit of fish and chips! Update...I'm happy to report the issue has been resolved personally by Hooked! I have used this chip shop a few times before and the food was great......this is why I felt the need to leave the bad review this time

I'd given up having fish & chips due to the persistent poor quality but this place has restored my faith. No more overcooked heavily battered thin fish with greasy chips cooked in old oil. I couldn't fault the quality of my meal. You could tell the fish was super fresh and cooked to perfection. The chips were incredible, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Lovely friendly people and fantastic value for money. Please keep up the excellent service especially given the difficult times we are all facing with costs etc.

After years of the horrendous food and service of the previous owners, FINALLY we have new ones and I must say this is the BEST fish I’ve ever tasted - used the old owners once and it was terrible... Used the new owners about 15 times already and NEVER had a fish that was not out of this world ** please would those people who gave 1 star reviews on the OLD OWNERS please remove them as it gives the wrong impression of the new ones who are amazing They even learn your names :)

Wonderful fish and chips, very fresh and tasty. Batter is light and crispy, fish is wonderful and proper chips! Best fish and chips I have eaten since Mitch Tonks in Dartmouth several years ago. Very busy when we arrived but staff very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend. We are so lucky to have this in Eltham.

Foods lovely a little expensive... My favourite fish n chips shop takeaway in the area. Just be aware like any good thing if you are going at peak times there might be a little queue.

Just had fish and chips from here for the 1st time since the new owners. We had it delivery it arrived hot and so fresh in a nice presented box and it tasted amazing will deffo be going here in future

Just popped in for some chips & they are second to none , nice & crispy even after putting vinegar on them !! The staff are were friendly & welcoming & even threw in a spicy potato wedge, which was also lovely !!

Have been hearing great things about this "under new management" business. Was even bought some of their excellent chips to try by a fan. Have now visited and can confirm the fried chicken is 5 star too. Advice from Hooked: phone your order through, this place is deservedly popular and the food, being freshly cooked, takes time to prepare - so make the call rather than wait in the queue. Destined to become our regular Chippie.

Firstly ignore the ratings here which should be 5 ✴️✴️✴️✴️✴️ This place is now under new Management nothing like before. Being single is often difficult having to shop and cook after a hard days work. More difficult when you have to find somewhere to buy decent food. Came here years ago and wasn't impressed. Now this place is on a whole different level. BEST FISH & CHIPS in a country mile. Let's just say don't know me from Adam, however eaten Cod and Chips for over 50 years. The truth be known rarely ordered Cod & Chips for sometime as most places visited are rank have no idea how to cook properly. Having a bad experience at another chip shop in Eltham was starting to lose faith in any chip shop visited. Then drove past this place a sign saying under new management. Stopped and said hello to Dem and Mem and how sweet and pleasant they where/are. They even gave me a couple of their banging spicy roast potatoes to try, even though wasn't buying. The place is clean as are the Staff smartly dressed.who pride the quality of food they serve. Forget the couple of bad reviews about waiting time when they first started. Give them a break ! They only just took over and new, have a new bigger hot plate, tething problems yes ! They where just trying to ensure the grub served is A1+ which it is. Now gone from rarely eating cod and chips to every week ! Incredible ! Say BEST FISH AND CHIPS TASTED IN YEARS.! This place comes with a warming ! Since been out the area and tried other Chip Shops and they have ended up in the bin. Now can't eat anywhere else such is rhe quality of Hooked in Eltham Give them a visit Dem & Mem lovely, such a happy friendly couple who actually care about what they serve up unlike many others. Had heard good things about Hooked after new owners had taken over, tried for the first time and happily surprised they were open on the bank holiday (Platinum Jubilee) - ordered the lunchtime cod and chips offer and curry sauce, some sausages and chicken wings for myself and partner. Cod was cooked fresh, was a lovely chunky fillet and very crisp batter - chips were gorgeous, lovely and crispy, curry sauce was very thick and delicious, perfect consistency for dunking! Chicken wings were a little on the soggy side so must have got them a while after they were cooked but their coating was flavoursome and a little spicy - nothing bad to add. Cashier was friendly and helpful - sadly didnt accept amex but not a big deal. Will be back again!

We have just eaten or demolished I should say the best Cod and chips I’ve eaten in London for many a year… from the new owners at Hooked ! Well done, whatever you are doing to create this authentic meal please Keep Doing it ! We will be back . Big plus from us is that the Cod didn’t have its skin on, had no bones and was meaty and wrapped in light and crunchy batter. The chips tasted like they did years ago .
