Hong Thai in Manchester

Food is reasonably priced. New location means parking is a bit difficult. Service good and food arrives in a timely manner and everything on the menu is halal. It does get busy during lunchtime. *went again in the evening and it was much busier but didn't have to wait long to be seated.

Don’t expect they have excellent customer service. You cannot stay for too long during busy hours, we were told to leave after finishing the meals. Not much space for dining in, a bit crowded.Staffs were polite. Food and drinks are good here!

The food is fabulous, however, management of the restaurant could be better. Due to only 4 staff (including chef) in the restaurant at the time and many customers, it is quite chaotic, no instructions/assistance were given, people were waiting to be seated, waiting for tables to be cleaned and waiting to place an order (no menu was available). It could have been a much better experience if there were guidances.

2024 April update: this shop seems to have moved. Update: the food is still great, unfortunately the price is now close to £8 more a meal which is quite a lot for lunch. Great food, very tasty. One of the best stores in the Arndale market But a bit more expensive than other options, lunch would cost just over £7. The Arndale market is a great place to visit to find a range of affordable international food.

I've eaten here loads of times, and it never fails to impress! The food is always fresh, packed with flavour and generous portions. There's a good range on the menu, some authentic and some for if you prefer a more English twist. I've lived in Thailand for 3 years and the Thai curries here taste better than any farang versions in Thailand 😅 What makes this place even better is Lilly, the main chef. She's so friendly and always makes you feel at home. You can tell she really puts her heart into the cooking. Highly recommend. Five stars, no doubt!

Ordered two Tofu Pad Thai and a portion of Salt and Pepper Chips. The Pad Thai had an odd, barnyard/cow poo flavour running through out, reminiscent of bamboo shoots. Wasn't a welcome flavour, particularly as I couldn't spot any bamboo shoots. Pad Thai should be a salty sour and sweet blast of tamarind, but this is more like a standard stir fry with rice noodles and an assortment of random vegetables (cauliflower, courgette, green beans???) I hate to write a review like this, but I just think this Pad Thai recipe needs reviewing. It's like the chefs have just looked at a picture of Pad Thai and made up the recipe - a cursory Google will go a long way to revealing what actually should be. (For starters, this should be served with a lime wedge - not lemon.) Also, the salt and Pepper Chips were soggy, which I can accept given that we got a delivery, but that doesn't account for the lack of salt and pepper. Apologies to leave a negative review, but I'm just feeling pretty disappointed.

Great dishes, very hearty and had a home cooked vibe. Owner is so friendly and accommodating. Soup noodle dishes are huge! Starters were lovely as well.

Warm and friendly greetings from the staff, the lady behind the counter is very accommodating with food requests. The portion sizes are generous with a good ratio of meat and well balanced vegetables in each dish. Tom yum was good with strong flavour and they certainly do not hold back with the Koh Soi. A truly amazing and authentic Thai dish. Great HongKong style milk tea too. Not too many seating but the tables aren't too close to each other, which is rare these days. Clean interior and toilet which is always a bonus.

New location. Same great food and service! The new location is very convenient as it's close to my flat! But also very convenient for anyone travelling to Manchester as it's easy to find and within walking distance of town/NQ/Ancoats. Been a few times since the change of address and the food is as amazing as ever and the staff & service is the best you'll hope to find. Great atmosphere too and they can stay open longer now that they've moved out of the Arndale which is great for me. I can't recommend this place enough, if you haven't been you are missing out!

I’ve been going to Hong Thai for years since they were in the Arndale Market. The food is always fresh and tasty. There are no issues with MSGs which is something you can find a lot on Thai food in the Uk. So happy it’s back open again

Fully Halal Thai. Our first visit - “Virgins” in the words of our host. Service was impeccable. Lilly was very attentive in advising and explaining the dishes. This is cosy family run place and we will most definitely be returning.

Friendliest and most helpful staff ever! I rang up as my girlfriend is gluten free and the staff were very helpful in assisting us ordering the right food. It was also delicious and great value when it came. We will be back!!

This is my second time having lunch here. The 1st time i came here was weekend around 3pm, but end up waited for more than 30mins in the line 🙈 Therefore, i came at 11:30am on ny 2nd visit, go straight to the table ✨

One of the best food places in Manchester! We visit Hong Thai all the time and it is 10/10 every time! The food is gorgeous and the portions are so big. The service is so friendly and the lady who owns the shop is such a kind person. You can tell she values every person who walks through the door. We’re so lucky to have such a nice place to go to in our city.

Be careful we received some dumplings which we thought we ordered then they gave us another plate of dumplings which were the correct ones. Then the lady came over and said he had to pay extra for those as we didn't order when it was there mistake. On top of that when we bit into them we realised they were not ours as we didn't order shrimp filled ones. What if we had an allergy ? The fact that it was their fault and they made us pay extra just seems like a scam for them to make more money. Won't be returning

Been loyal to this place since I discovered it in 2020. They have never failed me once, all the staff and the owner especially have been nothing but cool, kind and very generous! Their old spot in the arndale unfortunately burnt down and I was desperate to get some good old lemongrass chicken. Since they reopened a week or 2 ago, I have been back about 4 times and honestly the food had improved! Give them a chance and you won't regret it. I've taken my family here multiple times and they always talk about wanting to go back when I visit them. I'd rate 6 stars if I could

I have been to this restaurant several times already, and can testify to the quality of food and service. The food is always prepared fresh and all the dish I've tried are all delicious — felt like I'm being transported to the Michelin restaurants of Thailand and Hong Kong. The best part is they're priced affordably unlike other Asian restaurants in Chinatown and in town. The owner of the restaurant is very lovely too, giving the over all ambience a homey vibe. I give this 10/5 if I could - always exceeding expectations.

lovely place and great food, we ordered grilled teriyaki chicken and chef's special peri peri chicken. and my fav was Panang fish curry!! it's really the best 💯 also the chicken and veg dumplings 👌 i totally recommend

Don’t bother booking a table because you can get a table with no chair , and they booking too many people in at once, the staff lady was so rude , maybe she was a boss there , she was give my husband a menu without looking at him

I found my experience at Hong Thai disappointing. I had high hopes with the great online reviews but this was not it… we definitely will not be returning. We had salt and pepper chips, cuttle fish cake, tom yum fried rice, nasi goreng and pad thai. Food was not authentic at all and everything we’ve ordered was below average. The salt & pepper chips was very bland, with the salt and pepper seasoning just sprinkled on top. The pad thai was sour, overcooked and soggy. The restaurant was busy when we visited and service was ok, nothing remarkable. There are many other better asian restaurants in Manchester serving more authentic Thai food!

Food is good, it is kind of a Hong Kong mixed Thailand style. It is not exactly the same with real Thai food, but still satisfying if you are craving for Thai food. Recommend: Satay Stewers

So glad to see Hong Thai is back - Used to visit this in the Arndale all the time. It's a little out of the city centre now, but they have a great place to sit and enjoy your food. Food is as good if not better than before, many new options too, highly recommend the mango salad.

As a long standing patron of Hong Thai when I heard about the closure at Christmas I was devastated. Hong Thai reopening in Ancoats is one of the best news I've had all year and it hasn't missed with the atmosphere, quality of food and portions. Hands down the best Thai place in Manchester. I had Lamb Massaman Curry and it was tremendous as usual!

My partner and I have been getting the Peri Peri chicken for years since 2019 to be exact! We love the flavours of the dish everything taste beautiful and the friendly welcoming we always receive , we’re also excited to try other dishes off the menu in their new restaurant!

My first time here and WOW! Fabulous authentic food, served with a smile in a spotless small yet cosy restaurant. They even have a portable ramp on hand for access. TIP - give them a call to say when you’re arriving and they’ll make sure you are saved a space and the ramp is ready. Brilliant

Early tea for a family of 5 and we weren't dissapointed. Great menu,food arrived hot with lots of flavour and plentiful and served with a smile. We found it very welcoming and will definitely return. Prices reasonable and we found lots of parking spots around. 10 out of 10 for us.

The best service! You order at the till usually but as we were a family of five they made the effort to come and take our order so it was easier and more comfortable for all of us. Food with a smile, always. So tasty - penang fish curry and khao soi noodle soup are a must! Glad to see them doing so well in the new spot.

We had mixed experience there. This place is quite famous for food but it's not only about wait time, the service is something we did not like. We were just two people, entered at 7pm on monday and got plenty of tables unoccupied. Within 7.05pm every table got occupied. We placed order two main course for two people at 7.05pm. One dish came at 7.20pm and another dish we got at 7.50pm. The other person was waiting for my food to arrive so that we can eat together and his food got cold. They were serving one dish in each table on a rotation basis. No matter who ordered early. I have seen tables getting all the dishes from starters to multiple main courses one by one before we were served our second dish which was just unacceptable. The seating arrangements was not spacious. One person for takeaway was waiting inside beside the table. Another family was waiting inside to get their table turn which made the place congested for the servers to deliver the food. The road sound was loud inside and was not very comfortable. However, the foods are very tasty and the portion size is quite good. Khao soi was extremely tasty. But in the lamb massaman curry, there was just 4 smallest boneless pieces of lamb. I will prefer home delivery from next time.

Amazing quality and portion for the price. Will come back again. Egg noodles too soggy ngl for the hk style beef brisket noodles. The fish curry is quite spicy, I’d say if szechuan spicy chilli is a 10 this is on 6/10 spicy. Deep fried wonton is a must, £4.5 for 4 with sauce! Full of little prawns and fried to perfect crispiness! I hope they don’t jack up the price later on in the year :)

Hong Thai is by far the best Thai food I have had, she is my go to person and place for quality food and service. She can expect me back every week!

We booked ahead of time for 5:30PM on a Friday to have our meal. At the time of arrival it wasn’t that busy and we had ordered our food before the evening rush. Despite arriving at 5:30 we had only received our main dishes at 6:30 despite seeing people who had ordered after us receiving their meals before us which was quite unfortunate since we had booked early to ensure we’d get our food on time. I didn’t really understand the hype of the food to be honest, whilst I enjoyed the Pad Thai which had a kick, my friend and boyfriend mentioned they found their food okay. My boyfriend who had the HK Style Wonton & Braised Beef Brisket Noodles felt the broth lacked flavour and beef was just average. I did enjoy the banana fritters we ordered though we received these before our main meal despite it being a dessert.

The food was delicious and it didn’t take too long for our food to come. I just wish there was someone meeting and greeting for when we come in as it was a little confusing to know where to stand and wait.

Kwaytieu keg, padkrapao and nasi goreng. All just very average not bad in any area but very toned down to probably cater for western palate/clientele. The portions were very good and priced very competitively. Maybe I ordered wrong things, will return but not in a hurry.

Lily and her team are the best. I was so glad to hear she is back in business again after having to close at the Arndale. So was amazing to see her in person again today and enjoy the amazing dishes. Love the new dishes on offer too. Best of all got to see Lily and give her a hug.
