Hong Thai in Manchester

Just opposite Wing Yip is this unassuming little restaurant, serving authentic, no frills Thai food. We had crispy chicken and prawn with sriracha dip, yum, beef bao buns (buns lovely and fluffy but filling was like a small tough burger) my fella had the Nasi Goreng and I had the lemongrass chicken, both dishes were very tasty, the prices are very reasonable and we will be back again as there were many more dishes I’d like to try. There is no alcohol served here, we tried the tricolour drink, tasty but odd as I guess we are not used to having lumps of jelly and other textures in our drinks 😆

Good food Bad service Made to wait 35 minutes for starters, table as dirty and greasy I asked for the food to arrive at the same time, but I still had to wait extra 20 minutes for the teriyaki chicken

Khao Soi is a little salty but it’s ok and special

I was deeply disappointed when the market stall closed down. So, when I heard they had opened a shop, I knew I had to check it out. The food was fantastic, and the service was exceptional. As someone with celiac disease, I really appreciated how accommodating they were in guiding me through gluten-free options. I highly recommend this place and will absolutely be returning!

Lovely team and people but food wasn't as good as expected- didn't seem freshly made.

Our party came here based on the glowing reviews on Google Maps. Sadly, our experience did not match what others experienced. The food for the table did not arrive at the same time, half of our party members' food arrived first, then fifteen minutes later, the rest arrived, creating a poor atmosphere with cold food since it's natural to wait until everyone's food has arrived before you start eating. Two of the dishes had to be sent back because they were soggy and lacked any flavour. Upon paying, they struggled to divide a bill equally and caused a commotion by not explaining clearly what they were doing. The restaurant itself has no self closing door so whenever someone entered, they'd just leave the door open and you'd get a blast of cold air and the staff won't go up to close it. Overall, a poor experience, the staff lack any customer service initiative and become hostile very quickly before they understand the situation properly. Having frequently traveled to both Hong Kong and Thailand, this restaurant does no service to either cuisine and is an overall disappointment to all.

Would recommend the Khao Soi — the creamy, spicy and sour soup base makes the dish really appetising

Very much a hidden gem and I am surprised more people don't go here. The mains are absolutely delicious, we get it to takeaway a lot so it was really nice to sit in for once.

伏 It’s kinda funny getting racially discriminated against by an Asian staff member for the first time as an Asian. Oh, next time, switch out the cooking oil, yeah? I don't want to get cancer at all. And, plz train your staff not to get customers orders wrong. everyone who wants to come here, plz go to "Chef Diao" or "Home Chinese Manchester" instead. Same price, you'll get better food material and better service.

Very authentic food from Hong Kong and Thailand. Having travelled to both countries before, this is a restaurant to recommend!! Very friendly staff and efficient in food service. Good system in seating customers and reasonable wait time. Perfect prices and decent portions. We had Special Tom Kha with prawns and chicken, Beef Yellow Curry, Hong Kong Cuttle fish cake and Thai fish cake, vegetable spring rolls and satay chicken skewers, accompanied drinks were tricolour Thai jelly coconut drink. Delicious!

They are very SLOW. You will need to order at the front desk and grab your own tableware. Fortunately, their dishes are not too bad, however, not worth the price.

I loved it! I went for dinner, the first time, with my friend and the second time I booked for my family and our best friends ( 9 people in total! ) Everyone was impressed with the food! Highly recommend!

Beautiful food. It was busy even we came at 19:50. We called to book the seats but still waited for 10 minutes. Not many seats but loads of customers. So we need to rush to finish the food. But the people were nicely telling us to let the next customers come. 靠水was really good.

Went to Hong Thai for the first time recently and was really impressed. Friendly service, really fresh-tasting food and great value for money. The Penang fish curry and tofu/veg Pad Thai were both great. Will definitely go back!

Called the restaurant and made a booking for two. They confirmed and told us to come. We came and the short lady in the green lied saying we didn't make a booking and said there's a booking of 20 people coming. We waited outside for 10 mins. No one came. There was a few tables free. Do not come here and eat their disgusting food. Not even made by a Thai person but by a filipino

Authentic home cooked-style food with very fair prices! Beef buns and red curry were sooo good. Also, the sweet lady who served us was amazing and explained the menu to us, as well as having some sweet small talk, a really nice change from the service you usually get in restaurants which made it feel really homely. Will definitely be back again!

Definitely will be back! Massive portions (personal opinion), couldn’t finish my pad thai so now I’m sorted with my lunch. Excellent service, tasty food and great prices.

Alojarnos en Hampton by Hilton tan corto paseo (menos de 10 minutos) pedimos un montón y era razonablemente caro que nos sentimos. Hermoso y sabroso con un servicio rápido y personal atento. Auténtico tailandés nos sentimos tan agradecidos! 41 € nos dieron 3 x latas de tango, dos botellas de agua, un entrante rollitos de primavera, patatas fritas de sal y pimienta, otro entrante de langostinos y pollo y dos comidas principales - pollo agridulce y cordero massaman. La massamam era excelente!

Amazing place and defo will be revisiting

Genuinely the most delicious food! Really big portions as well. I love the teriyaki chicken and have ordered it 3 times this past week. It’s my guilty pleasure at this point. The beef yellow curry was also delicious. I also tried the sweet and sour chicken which was good although I wouldn’t recommend ordering delivery. It’s hard to reheat the battered meat.

Everything on the menu is incredible, I've never had a bad meal here. On top of that the people who run it are the most lovely people who genuinely care for their customers. Absolutely worth a visit.

We went for my sons birthday meal. So this is a lovely local kind of little eatery. The flavours were very authentic and portions were all really good. Prices are very reasonable and the owner took orders etc herself so overall gave a very cosy feel. The food is halal so that's great because it opens up all the options on the menu. They serve an interesting drink called Tricolour Thai Coconut drink. If anyone has had a falooda this was like a Thai version of falooda. Really tasty and not too sweet. It had coconut milk, dessicated coconut and jelly with daal in it too. Very tasty and a must try if you like coconut flavour. Definitely will go here again. A very authentic kind of flavour.

100% Halal. One of the best Thai food places I've ever been to. Best one in Manchester. The flavours are amazing. Staffs were amazing. Specially the owner, she was lovely. This place was busy with regulars and new customers. Excellent customer service. Give this restaurant a go and you won’t regret. Worth the visit.

The most delicious meal I’ve ever tried!!!

I had gone here on Saturday with my family for a birthday and we had a wonderful time atmosphere was fantastic everyone enjoyed it, the staff were excellent and very helpful

The food from this place was really tasty, fresh and authentic. Highly recommend to anyone looking to enjoy good Thai food. Staff were brilliant, they really went above and beyond and were very attentive.

I used to go to Hong Thai when they had a place in the food court in the Arndale centre. Really great food, great portion sizes and super friendly service.

Twice they got my order wrong. Asked for no chicken, prawn only. First time they agreed to give me a free meal next time. Next time they still got the order wrong. Very disappointing after traveling and waiting over 1.5 hours.

The 3rd times visit and found still amazing quality Asian full style noodles with beef and wing ton ; under cold time you can drink the hot soups with soft Chinese noodles Very very yummy 😋

This restaurant, which serves Hong Kong and Thai cuisine, used to operate in the Food Court at Arndale Center in the city center but has now relocated to Oldham Road. There is parking available outside the restaurant, making it very convenient. The owner, who speaks Cantonese, is incredibly friendly. As for the food, both the Hong Kong-style and Thai dishes are excellently prepared. This time, we ordered Tom Yum fried rice, Pad Thai, Hong Kong-style wonton noodles, and red bean ice – all were delicious. If I had to nitpick, it would be that the straw for the red bean ice is too thin, often getting clogged with the red beans, making it hard to drink. Overall, I highly recommend this place! This shop selling Hong Kong and Thai food used to operate in the Food Court of the Arndale Center in the city center. Now it has moved to Oldham Road. There is a parking space at the door, which is very convenient. The lady boss knows how to speak Cantonese and is very kind. In terms of food, both Hong Kong and Thai food are excellent. I went there today and got some take outs to try ,the best part is that it’s Halal , the owner was so friendly the place looks cozy , we had katsu chicken which was delicious with that curry sauce a very good dish also we got vegetable spring rolls and dumplings both were amazing I really enjoyed it I also can recommend the chicken satay with peanut if you like peanut you will love this , and last thing dessert which was banana fritters I never found a place that made it here it was ok to be honest they need to check the oil as I tased something else with it and also maybe make the dough little bit thinner but to be honest we didn’t leave any bits 😂, price wise really good and affordable, portions very fair . Over all I will definitely be back maybe next week 😂 and highly recommend it.

Today I brought three people who love Thailand to try Thai food, but they were a little disappointed. Firstly, the food was not authentic enough, and secondly, there was too much MSG, which made their throats uncomfortable for the next two hours.

Food is reasonably priced. New location means parking is a bit difficult. Service good and food arrives in a timely manner and everything on the menu is halal. It does get busy during lunchtime. *went again in the evening and it was much busier but didn't have to wait long to be seated.

Don’t expect they have excellent customer service. You cannot stay for too long during busy hours, we were told to leave after finishing the meals. Not much space for dining in, a bit crowded.Staffs were polite. Food and drinks are good here!

The food is fabulous, however, management of the restaurant could be better. Due to only 4 staff (including chef) in the restaurant at the time and many customers, it is quite chaotic, no instructions/assistance were given, people were waiting to be seated, waiting for tables to be cleaned and waiting to place an order (no menu was available). It could have been a much better experience if there were guidances.

I've eaten here loads of times, and it never fails to impress! The food is always fresh, packed with flavour and generous portions. There's a good range on the menu, some authentic and some for if you prefer a more English twist. I've lived in Thailand for 3 years and the Thai curries here taste better than any farang versions in Thailand 😅 What makes this place even better is Lilly, the main chef. She's so friendly and always makes you feel at home. You can tell she really puts her heart into the cooking. Highly recommend. Five stars, no doubt!

2024 April update: this shop seems to have moved. Update: the food is still great, unfortunately the price is now close to £8 more a meal which is quite a lot for lunch. Great food, very tasty. One of the best stores in the Arndale market But a bit more expensive than other options, lunch would cost just over £7. The Arndale market is a great place to visit to find a range of affordable international food.

Ordered two Tofu Pad Thai and a portion of Salt and Pepper Chips. The Pad Thai had an odd, barnyard/cow poo flavour running through out, reminiscent of bamboo shoots. Wasn't a welcome flavour, particularly as I couldn't spot any bamboo shoots. Pad Thai should be a salty sour and sweet blast of tamarind, but this is more like a standard stir fry with rice noodles and an assortment of random vegetables (cauliflower, courgette, green beans???) I hate to write a review like this, but I just think this Pad Thai recipe needs reviewing. It's like the chefs have just looked at a picture of Pad Thai and made up the recipe - a cursory Google will go a long way to revealing what actually should be. (For starters, this should be served with a lime wedge - not lemon.) Also, the salt and Pepper Chips were soggy, which I can accept given that we got a delivery, but that doesn't account for the lack of salt and pepper. Apologies to leave a negative review, but I'm just feeling pretty disappointed.

Great dishes, very hearty and had a home cooked vibe. Owner is so friendly and accommodating. Soup noodle dishes are huge! Starters were lovely as well.

Warm and friendly greetings from the staff, the lady behind the counter is very accommodating with food requests. The portion sizes are generous with a good ratio of meat and well balanced vegetables in each dish. Tom yum was good with strong flavour and they certainly do not hold back with the Koh Soi. A truly amazing and authentic Thai dish. Great HongKong style milk tea too. Not too many seating but the tables aren't too close to each other, which is rare these days. Clean interior and toilet which is always a bonus.

Most of the people reviewing here obviously have never been to Thailand? A Thai restaurant with no pork dishes what's that about???😡😡

New location. Same great food and service! The new location is very convenient as it's close to my flat! But also very convenient for anyone travelling to Manchester as it's easy to find and within walking distance of town/NQ/Ancoats. Been a few times since the change of address and the food is as amazing as ever and the staff & service is the best you'll hope to find. Great atmosphere too and they can stay open longer now that they've moved out of the Arndale which is great for me. I can't recommend this place enough, if you haven't been you are missing out!

I’ve been going to Hong Thai for years since they were in the Arndale Market. The food is always fresh and tasty. There are no issues with MSGs which is something you can find a lot on Thai food in the Uk. So happy it’s back open again

Fully Halal Thai. Our first visit - “Virgins” in the words of our host. Service was impeccable. Lilly was very attentive in advising and explaining the dishes. This is cosy family run place and we will most definitely be returning.

This is my second time having lunch here. The 1st time i came here was weekend around 3pm, but end up waited for more than 30mins in the line 🙈 Therefore, i came at 11:30am on ny 2nd visit, go straight to the table ✨

One of the best food places in Manchester! We visit Hong Thai all the time and it is 10/10 every time! The food is gorgeous and the portions are so big. The service is so friendly and the lady who owns the shop is such a kind person. You can tell she values every person who walks through the door. We’re so lucky to have such a nice place to go to in our city.

Be careful we received some dumplings which we thought we ordered then they gave us another plate of dumplings which were the correct ones. Then the lady came over and said he had to pay extra for those as we didn't order when it was there mistake. On top of that when we bit into them we realised they were not ours as we didn't order shrimp filled ones. What if we had an allergy ? The fact that it was their fault and they made us pay extra just seems like a scam for them to make more money. Won't be returning
