its amazing that you can make food as bland as that, sure there would be more taste in the tubs it was delivered in..and talking about the delivery well if i didnt see the drivers car i would have assumed it came on the back of an iceland van (frozen) they also charge you £1.80 for a can of drink that turns up with 75p on the can.. sure that's a bit naughty.. pop a mail to trading standards one feels.

1 hour late. Rang after 30 mins late and they said driver was on his way. Could hear other people in the background complaining about the driver. Said they would ring him but didn't ring me to update me on the situation. 15mins later we had a voice message saying he had been knocking on our door for 5 mins. He went to Blisworth instead of Ashton. After 45 mins of being late rang again and they kept saying there is nothing they can do he is on his way, no apology or mention of discount. 1 hour late, driver apologised and gave free packet of cold prawn crackers. Other food was obviously cold too. Driver may not be reliable but no after care as in phone call after they had spoken to the driver and apologising and offering discount etc

I think this was the worst Chinese meal I have ever purchase cant really say eaten because none of it was particularly edible bland tasteless tasted like cheap microwave meals what made it worse was we bought a meal for two plus extras and the whole lot got put in the bin total rip off will never return to this grubby little pit

We have ordered food a few times now, the service is punctual and the staff are very friendly on the phone and when delivering. The food tasted very good, the size of the meals are very generous, we were quite impressed. Will be enjoying a few take aways from here over the next few years, yum! Thank you to the staff and chefs, exception standards.

I ordered 4 servings of vermicelli and the food had NO taste ... just boiled, no spices... in fact, they only put salt, a lot of salt. I couldn't even eat.

Chips had clearly been cooked before then reheated, worst take away chips I have ever tasted, very lean menu and no other freshly cooked items on display to choose from. Chow mien was ‘ok’ but somewhat tasteless.

Gives me receipts as menus. Found a few hairs in my food. Food is okay. Very overpriced. 3 things- £10

If I could leave a review with zero I would. Absolutely awful service. Didn't even deliver our food.waited for hours and they kept saying it was on its way. Stay away from this place.

Food quality is underwhelming. Had a chilli squid and its just over coated in flour and tasteles covered in loads of raw thick cut onion. Chicken fried rice is plain and lacks flavour and the Malaysian beef was over flavoured with either oyster or squid sauce which was over powering and made the dish taste of fish. Last time we order from there .

Tasteless food. Had not one drop of seasoning in it. The meats in the chow mein were dry and tasteless. The deep friends prawns were okay.

We order our meal, my husbands wonton were so hot it melted the plastic container, which made the food taste awful. We ordered wontons which usely had a sauce which goes with it we received nothing. We will not be ordering from Hong Kong chef again.

i would say that this place has some nice things but it is a bit overpriced by what they give you the chips are drowned in salt and the time it takes just to make chips or onion rings is bad other than that its a decent place but there are a lot better chinese shops around and the chicken nuggets are a meh and this placer gives you a dodge tummy.

Fantastic service, piping hot and very yummy! Every dish was wrapped tightly and no spills. We have been using Hong Kong Chef as our Chinese Takeaway for 15+ years and not once had a bad meal. Always a family treat and tastes delicious. Would definitely recommend!

Good enough if your in the village and want take away but if your going to have it delivered there are better options.

Fish and chips are poor. Birds eye battered fish. Cold and clearly sat for hours. Don’t bother.

CHECK ON LINE.The owner must be a millionaire because they obviously don't need the money.No business sense what so ever.Its quite simple fresh good food =lots of customers and money.Disgusting food= no customers less money.Because of location they would be in high demand but they can't even produce nice chips.The chips are the worst I have ever had dirty oil(tasted like animal fat to me).They haven't learnt a thing in years.Twice in two years is enough for me never again. I have to drive 6 miles for decent chips now but still worth it.

Bloody awfull service do not eat here. We phoned to place order and asked delivery charge all fine. Placed order through just eat. They cancelled the order after 30 minutes. Then we called to query and they daid they weren't deliverung tonight. Rude response told us to go elesewhere!!! Disgusting service.

Having ordered a meal for five members of the family, we were still waiting after an hour. Rang again to be told it would be another half hour, when it finally showed up, every dish was cold and had to be re-heated and the prawn crackers were stale and soft. Would not recommend or ever use again.

So ordered duck pancakes.. how did they forget the pancakes... it’s in the f.cking title.. beyond a joke.. I will forget the whole thing if I get free food on my next visit..

Popped in late on a Sunday night (9:20ish) after a busy weekend fully expecting them to be closed or to be turned away. Instead we got fresh hot food, friendly staff and my Sunday evening was saved. Food was brilliant and staff were very understanding and pleasant - will happily be coming back (at a more reasonable hour) soon!

Ordered takeaway as staying at friends in the area. Had the quarter "crispy duck" which was very tasty however not overly crispy. Salad bits were fine and the hoisin standard. We also ordered the crispy chilli beef, smoked chicken, chicken balls, egg fried rice and chicken chow mein. These dishes were nice not greasy and all tasted different. The chow mein had a slightly off taste but can't put my finger on why..... All in all pretty decent and you get what you pay for. One other slight downside was the order was scheduled for delivery at 2030 as per the e mail confirmation. Friends that ordered alternate pizza based takeaway ordered there's for delivery at the same time but ours arrived at 1945 thus meaning we couldn't all eat together.

lovely staff and orders are always made quickly. food is delicious in our opinion...I could live of their chicken balls! The chip shops a bit of a let down though, I think the prices are too high and £1 to pay via card is a rip off..especially when the food looks like it's been there for a good while and the chips aren't always that nice but the Chinese I can't fault it!

Iv been to hong kong chef for years, but iv got to say speical house curry and the beef curry we order must have had two cups of salt in it, it was ineatable, very disappointed

We ordered mixed starter and duck. So glad we didn’t order more! The seaweed was stale, not crispy and had a funny taste. There was some grey colour balls in oil which I think were pork and tasteless prawn toast and pancake rolls. The duck did taste nice but the cucumber was slimy! Didn’t dare eat it. Altogether I wish I’d not bothered and would not recommend to anyone.

I have been a loyal local customer for 15 to 18 years, the other evening after having 4 guests arrive unexpected and very hungry I ordered 3 pies , 2 sausages and 2 large portion of chips at the price of £18 to be delivered, as usual, delivery was swift, however 2 of the pies were inedible, the pastry was so hard it could not be cut, it seemed as though they must of been reheated in a microwave or kept for far too long. I rang straightaway and complained, I offered for them to come and collect the pies so they could see how bad they were for themselves, (they disnt want to and were not surprised to hear the pies were hard) no apology was given, however, there was an offer to bring 2 more pies, unfortunately the moment had gone, pies were not high on the wish list after dealing with 2 pies of rock hard pastry that loomed in front of us all. Furthermore, this would of meant the meal was over by the time fresh pies would have been delivered and we had sufficiently managed to fill our guests up by supplying bread to make use of the chips, which were actually quite nice in order to make chip butties. No apology, just informed that the next meal would be complimentary as a good will gesture and this I thought would of been acceptable, The next day I rand Hong Kong Chef again to confirm my dissapointment and embarrasment to feed my guests , also to confirm that the next meal would be complimentary. All seemed good!! I rang again on the Sunday to order Fish and Chips twice, I was told this was not on offer on Sundays so I went ahead and ordered 4 chineese dishes, when it came to payment details, I reminded them that I had a complimentary meal owing as a goodwill gesture, the reply was that they would deduct the price of one dish from my bill, no apology and the gesture withdrawn. I think this is absolutely disgusting service especially to a customer that has been using this takeaway for so many years. I ended up paing £18 for a takeaway that was not acceptable and I would of expected my next meal to be delivered free and with an apology , I will tell everyone to avoid this takeaway from now on after this bad experience and will certainly never receive my custom again. The next day I threw the pies away and they were still rock hard!!

I have used this Chinese take away for house specials and have in the past really enjoyed it but lately I found its very sloppy and I haven’t been enjoying the house specials as much as I used to. I have recently taken my business elsewhere

Ordered a takeaway the other night and was told it would be 20 minutes, 40 minutes later I ask where it is an 1 hour and 10 minutes later it finally arrives stone cold to be told "sorry traffic was bad" seriously? I live 2 miles away how have you worked that one out? I could have walked there and back quicker

Tried this takeaway for the first time since moving into the area. Very disappointing. Chips were stiff and firm and needed more salt and vinegar. You could break the chips in half and the texture was almost like old, cold chips. They didn’t have the squidgy texture of fresh chips. The fish (cod) was bland. The batter was under-cooked - sloppy and also lacked any flavour. Totally missing the usual rich, sweet taste of batter. Overall, rather tasteless.

Always used these guys- 10 years or so. However, recent times have gone downhill. Longer delivery times, poor service and food isn't as good as it was.

Please be aware this restaurant is happy to re-deliver food that has been sat in someone else's kitchen cold for half hour after it was incorrectly delivered to someone else.

It is based in a Village so a bit restricted, Quality is not bad especially if you are hungry. Prices are good.

Ordered specifically from the vegetarian section of the menu and found a prawn when I was half way through my chow mein. Cross contamination isn't difficult to avoid, pure laziness. Their food is seriously bland too, don't bother.

We had a special family event and our local Chinese was closed. My daughter said she had had some very good food from this shop. What a let down!!!!

Absolutely shocking food.Needed a quick takeaway but we should have stayed hungry. Avoid at all costs.Not one item tasted any good and i now feel like i drank pure oil.

Ordered a collection from Hong Kong Chef. Was rather disappointed when I got home to find that the chicken chow mien & chicken spring rolls were completely tasteless & they had not included the extra satay sauce that I'd asked for despite them charging me when I paid for my order at time of collection. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE I very much doubt I'll use them again!

The worst Chinese and fish and chips I've ever had. The rice is pudding rice the cheapest rice you can buy, the curry sauce comes in a tiny container and is all lumpy, the chicken has a most strange texture with fat attached to the meat. The chips were soggy, not crispy as if they had been standing around all day. The price is very high considering the quality is very low. We will never buy from them again, its worth travelling 8 miles to Towcester to enjoy a good Chinese than suffer a very poorly

The food tastes as though it's been left standing for a prolonged period of time - potentially even days. If you want Chinese food or fish and chips, this is not the place! get in your car and drive further afield or scavenge whatever is available at home - it will certainly taste better and you have the added benefit of knowing exactly what it is and where it has come from.

Great place for fish and chips and / or Chinese. Food is great and very reasonably priced, and if you have half the house wanting fish and chips and the other half wanting Chinese you can have both delivered to your door.
