Been going to the Honeymoon since I was a child in the 70’s and have been a good customer over the years. Sadly, the food has now deteriorated to a point where I’ve just had my last ever meal there. Here was tonight’s experience: Crispy duck - dry, tough, with poorly prepared vegetables. Pancake roll and chicken balls - opaque and literally dripping in oil, and when I say dripping, I mean, dripping. Chicken curry - rubbery, water pumped, cheap chicken, reminiscent of the texture of mushroom, definitely not chicken breast. Everything else, including rice, utterly tasteless.

I've been a patron for the last decade or so, and I've got to say this place is definitely a must-try. The staff are very accommodating, the food is delicious and the overall atmosphere is super comfortable. I'm actually very looking forward to the new menu, which I've heard will include Dim Sum too! Again, if you find yourself in the area, please try this joint! You won't regret it!

Absolutely disrespectful to send food like that to customers, the whole dish was burnt and tasted like pure carbon, I've never experienced this ever. The whole dish was masked with sauce to hide the burn, absolutely disgusted. I will never order from here again.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, they don't offer complimentary prawn crackers, which was surprising. On top of that, they added a £6.50 service charge, which by law is optional, but they refused to remove it when I asked. Their response was that it was mandatory because they brought the food to the table, which I found ridiculous. I would have gladly collected it from the kitchen myself if that meant avoiding the charge. Unfortunately, they didn’t give me that option. When I politely requested the service charge be removed so I could tip in cash instead, the owner became hostile, stating there was a sign saying a 10% service charge must be paid. I tried explaining that this is optional, but she was visibly angry. After reluctantly paying the £71 bill, including the service charge I was forced to pay, she didn’t even have the courtesy to say goodbye. For the amount of money I spent, I expected at least some basic manners. As for the food, it was far too salty. I found myself constantly drinking water all night. My daughter, who is a nutritionist, even pointed out how excessively high the salt content was, and it left her feeling extremely thirsty as well. I will never be returning to this place. The prices are extortionate, and the customer service is terrible. I’d much rather go to Red Bamboo in Winchmore, where the prices, food, and customer service are far better and they even give complimentary prawn crackers.

My experience took place on Monday 8th July 2024. I have not used trip advisor in a long time, but due to my experience felt the need to highlight the racial profiling I experienced. Never have I ever been spoken to or told to get out of a restaurant – due to the way I look, for the first time ever in my life I experienced this. It was my first-time visiting honeymoon off a recommendation, and I wouldn't recommend it. Racially profiled and abused by the man with glasses as soon as I entered the restaurant; no customer service skills shown and no warm welcome upon entering. I had to ask if he had a table for two which he aggressively pointed at the tables to sit on. no good evening or welcome to the restaurant. a very judgemental character who was concerned at two young black men walking into the restaurant - little does he know I’m part Chinese myself! Within less than 30 seconds of being in the restaurant, the man with glasses, slammed menus on the table, then aggressively told me to take the bottle I had brought in the restaurant off the table. now of course, I would have brought a beer or beverage from the restaurant, but we didn’t get that far.... Although i had entered the restaurant with a bottle of Lucozade, I would have brought a beer or another drink, . upon me placing this on the table the worker stated rudely take that off the table we don’t do that in here, to which I had no issue with. however, upon asking him to dispose of this he then stood over me raising his voice trying to intimidate me to which I calmly responded you have no need to speak to me how you are speaking, the man tried to continue speaking rudely, then removed the menus off the table and said get out! As there were others in the restaurant, he tried to make it look as if we had come in and caused and issue which was certainly not the case and although we calmly and happily walked out, I don’t appreciate being racially profiled one bit! It was clear as soon as we entered the restaurant, the feeling portrayed was we don’t want them in here. Rather than argue, I walked out happily and said to this worker you lack customer service skills! To conclude; I’d rather go spend my money elsewhere than tolerate a lack of customer service and being judged with unconscious bias due to being black and due to being a wearing a tracksuit after a full day of work wearing a shirt and tie. Never in my life have I ever experienced such an attitude and distain for the way I look. From my lone travelling abroad to visiting restaurants never have I experienced this! I wouldn’t recommend anyone of colour going here as it seems the man with the glasses tarnished me under a brush. Honestly the worst experienced with a restaurant I have had in my life. P.S: This incident took place within less than 60 seconds which says it all and identifies the worker didn’t want us in the restaurant within the first place.

Highly recommend this place, it's probably the best Chinese restaurant in the general area. It's very much a traditional old school Chinese like they used to be in the golden era of such restaurants - like going back in time, unspoilt by 'contemporary' trends. It has a cosy, warm feel when you enter and a relaxed and chilled atmosphere. The couple who run it and have done so for many years are charming and respectful, albeit traditional and no nonsense. The food is first class and always up to standard. I just hope this place keeps going for as long as possible.

Service was terrible. Staff were extremely rude. Starters arrived cold. Sent them back and then arrived overcooked. Went to speak to the main server regarding the service charge removal because we were unhappy. She responded very angry and demanded we paid it. I advised her it was not compulsory by law. She replied and said it was their rules not the laws. She was angry and shouting. I couldn't believe the nerve. She said that we caused a lot of trouble because we requested to rearrange the tables. I wasn't even there when this happened and wasn't even aware of it. Very rude and No idea of customer service.

I found this restaurant on Google. It was the first time that the owner and the lady boss were so enthusiastic and loved each other🙆♂️ The wild food is really delicious, especially the stir-fried beef river. It’s full of flavor and not too greasy. It’s rare to find such high-quality dry-fried beef river in the UK, so I highly recommend giving it a try at one of these restaurants. This restaurant has great atmosphere and food, authentic Cantonese dishes, highly recommended!

Tucked away behind Southgate underground station is this hidden gem... Honeymoon restaurant. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. The decor reminded me of the 80s and 90s. We ordered the set menu C for two and chose the mixed hors d'oeuvres. Main course dishes included special fried rice, sizzling beef with green peppers and black bean sauce, sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style, chicken and mushrooms. Decent portions and tasty too. Set menu came with tea or coffee or ice cream or fruit salad. Not bad for £28 per person. We had a Tiger Beer £5 for a can and soft drinks. Overall a good experience, will visit again one day. 10% service charge and no disabled toilets.

I have tried a lot of Chinese restaurants in London and this is the one with the most authentic Hong Kong style I can find. Their chef is very good and a lot of dishes just taste the same as in Hong Kong. I recommend Beef Brisket Pot, and Fried Noodle with Pork. Lunch here is also very good and I usually order Pineapple Chicken with Fried Rice. Their lunch set in week days is around £10 and comes with soup and drink. The seating is comfortable and I highly recommend this place.

When we have arrived there the restaurant was half empty, we decided to try it and when the food arrived it was very little, very expensive and very bad tasting. We ordered a menu for 2 people that said it was worth 28 pounds and when the menu arrived it cost us 75 pounds and we were speechless. We left very angry, we said never again and the man who served us told me to please pay because he knew that the food he served us in the small amount was not worth all that money and also that it was disgusting. The two menus cost us 56 plus 12.5 for the drinks, well, they charged us 2 for the shrimp bread plus 5 for the tea that should be included in the menu. A total scam, please don't go, the dishes are not worth that price and we are very, very angry. Never again.

Sorry, I rarely leave negative reviews but this is entirely deserved. I placed a takeaway order for a simple duck dish. As there was no option for a combo, I ordered rice on the side. Arrived as the food was 'just ready' and was home within 10mins to eat... ...*attempt to eat. The rice - a chinese staple, what they are famed for... gluey, stodgy and cheap quality. May as well have been plain boiled glue for all the egg and frying it had seen. Pappy, pasty and throroughly horrible. The duck dish - not even average. A generic stock-tasting dark soy-stained watery juice for 'sauce', no chilli, and the meat -=- again - I have no idea what parts of the duck I was meant to be eating, or whether reconstituted duck is even a thing - but if it is, that is what I had. Incidentally when I arrived the restaurant was empty. That is to say noone except the owner and a single waitress plus the chef - who looked surprisingly jolly - maybe its funny being paid a wage to produce what he turned out. I was left hungry, disappointed angry even. Never again. ZERO stars/5.

Ridiculous prices AVOID! Most Chinese takeaways offer free Prawn crackers when you spend a certain amount me and my partner spent over £30 on our takeaway and they charged £3.50 for prawn crackers RIP OFF. £4.50 for a stingy bag of chips. And portions very small had to laugh at the crispy seaweed £4.50 for approximately 4 table spoons worth and it tasted like fried string. Should of realised it would be rubbish as there was only 2 customers dining in the restaurant on a Saturday evening..

I went to the honeymoon restaurant to try out, one of their weekday lunch time specials. The honeymoon is a long standing Chinese restaurant that has been around for a long time. They offer a 4 course menu (which tea is one of the courses) for the price of a main. I have to say it was enjoyable and good value. We ordered a number 13 and 25. They were both tasty, and we're given a chicken and sweetcorn soup to start with. The soup was good and you could see decent size pieces of chicken. The mains were good and we had soy on the table, and were given chilli oil too. The tea with the meal was nice, and I like having Chinese tea with a Chinese meal. You get a choice of ice-cream or fruit salad at the end. We got one of each and shared it. It was a nice finish to the meal. I'd like to come back and try some of the other dishes on the menu. It was around the £20 mark for both of us.

Our taste buds were in need of a Chinese 'hit' so we decided to visit the Honeymoon. Why eat in when we can eat out and they have been there for 55 years. The restaurant was clean with spotless tablecloths and napkins. The decor is very 1970 but you can really relax which is often difficult in some restaurants - plus it adds to the charm of the place. We were left to decide what we wanted- a HUGE menu- and when each course arrived it looked as you expected it to look- and tasted as you expected it to taste. the portions were larger than some other restaurants. Most importantly, we didn't leave with the salty/monosodium glutamate taste in our mouths. While the restaurant was fairly empty (early Sunday evening) there was a constant stream of takeaways (to collect) with waves and friendly greetings from regulars. Definitely a gem of a restaurant and one we will use again.

Rang up for a takeawauy dellvery Saturday night. Duck turned up with no plum saus. When I rang up and asked for the owner, he said he was too busy and hung up. The rest of the order waa cold and tasteless too.

Fantastic meal. Hasn't changed in the 30years we've been coming. Brough dad for his birthday. Excellent service, went with a set menu. Honestly you can't go wrong with the Honeymoon. My one gripe was that we were 9 people. 2 of which were children under the age of 8. Charged at full price. Again not too much of an issue. Set menu included fruit salad and ice cream. At the end of the meal to be told there was no fruit salad only ice cream. We asked for 2. I repeat 2 bowls of lychees instead and we were flat out told no. It's not on the set menu. You will be charged extra. Bill was already at £300 We declined. Wasn't impressed that they wouldn't budge an inch. It may not seem like much but as only half of the party only wanted ice cream the least they could do was check a few lychees in a bowl for dad's dessert. We will go again but will order a la carte and one dish for the kids to share.

Firstly ignore the negative sit in reviews, we went to celebrate a family friends birthday party of 17 fairly loud people, the venue is great and the food had a massive selection possibly 3rd of the menu, did not have that oil smell and the service never felt like we had to wait but equally we were not badgered, we were served by the owner his wife and a lovely young lady they happily explained to the party any questions about the food as we had a mix of very and non veg amongst us, the red wine is lovely and smooth, sizzler plates enticing and exciting as they arrive with a real sizzle the Peking ribs fell of the bone just how I like them portions are great, prawn crackers did not taste or smell stale, the restaurant had every table occupied and they still managed to please everyone furthermore as some of us had not met since lockdown despite them closing at 11 on a Friday they still stayed open for us to have our after dinner natter unrushed unhurried, very pleasant staff and will definitely make this our regular Chinese place huge selection of wonderful dishes you can see and taste why this place is one of the longest established restaurants in Southgate. Well done guys hope you are going to be around for many more years to come and very clean and tidy including the cutlery venue and it is nice to see real chopsticks not that I can use them but others in our group did. They even when requested provided extra Kung Po sauce 👍😁 if you looking for a great evening weather in a large party or an intimate night this is definitely your place.

I am shocked to see how such a well established restaurant went downhill. By the horrific hygiene review I am better off staying away. Hygiene rating 1 to be seen on In my Area.
