Have eaten hee several times pre-pandemic. Foodand service above average. Eaten here twice since post-pandemic> Food not as tasty. The manager, although seemingly pleasant, has very strong views about the English patrons. For this reason, I shall not be eating here in the future.

I found this restaurant on Google. It was the first time that the owner and the lady boss were so enthusiastic and loved each other🙆‍♂️ The wild food is really delicious, especially the stir-fried beef river. It’s full of flavor and not too greasy. It’s rare to find such high-quality dry-fried beef river in the UK, so I highly recommend giving it a try at one of these restaurants. This restaurant has great atmosphere and food, authentic Cantonese dishes, highly recommended!

Lovely Food, Clean. Though the Place can be a bit cold at Lunchtimes. The Chicken Curry is lovely.🤩

First time out at honeymoon restaurant service was exceptional by the bar man vinni he went out of his way to make an expresso martini which was not on the drinks menu wow it was exactly how I wanted it to be. Vinni your customer service was outstanding definitely recommended. The food was great atmosphere very friendly will.be visiting again.

Had a fantastic lunch at this fab Chinese restaurant today with dad brother and few friends,amazing value and service from Mr Chan who I remember from my 1st visit here in 1981,still the best around,thanks Mr Chan,see you soon 👌🏽🧿

Tucked away behind Southgate underground station is this hidden gem... Honeymoon restaurant. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. The decor reminded me of the 80s and 90s. We ordered the set menu C for two and chose the mixed hors d'oeuvres. Main course dishes included special fried rice, sizzling beef with green peppers and black bean sauce, sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style, chicken and mushrooms. Decent portions and tasty too. Set menu came with tea or coffee or ice cream or fruit salad. Not bad for £28 per person. We had a Tiger Beer £5 for a can and soft drinks. Overall a good experience, will visit again one day. 10% service charge and no disabled toilets.

I have tried a lot of Chinese restaurants in London and this is the one with the most authentic Hong Kong style I can find. Their chef is very good and a lot of dishes just taste the same as in Hong Kong. I recommend Beef Brisket Pot, and Fried Noodle with Pork. Lunch here is also very good and I usually order Pineapple Chicken with Fried Rice. Their lunch set in week days is around £10 and comes with soup and drink. The seating is comfortable and I highly recommend this place.

We had a wonderful year end dinner (Lunar New Year) at Honeymoon last week. The festive vibe was so great. We preordered their signature dish - Hong Kong Style Lobster with Noodles. That was exceeding our expectations. The lobsters were juicy and tender. The noodles were full of lobster sauces. Highly recommend!!! Other dishes were also fantastic. Do remember to book in an advance. Some of signature dishes required preordered but it’s really worth it!

Fantastic food! One of the best

This is the best Hong Kong style restaurant in north london.The beef soup that we ordered are very yummy. My daughter really loves it and the fried noodles with pork are really crispy: My family loves it and we can even order something else outside the menu ！We will definitely go back and recommend to our friends and relatives .

Prawn crackers were stale, they forgot to deliver the noodles Not worth the money

We book a table for six people but two people was able to come due to illness as we got to the restaurant we told the manager it only 4 of us and he start shouting at us, he said why you not call me, very small place and it smells was horrible it smell of mould it wouldn’t advise anyone to go there and food very expensive. We left the restaurant and the manager said ok go. 😡 Sorry but you did shouted as a customer we have our right.

Best lunchtime menu in North London. Excellent food. Friendly owner.My whole family and extended family go there regularly. If you haven't been. Go there lunchtime on a weekday except Tuesday to try a four course lunch for under £10.

The food is really tasty and the portion sizes are great. There is always enough to pack for later! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Only downside is that parking is hard to find in the area :(

Really great food, by far the best Chinese we've visited. Big portions, nicely cooked. Friendly service from the owner and his family. Great value for money. The outside is not glitzy but don't be put off, for this place is great. Szechuan dishes just like I had in Szechuan, only bigger and packed with meat.

When we have arrived there the restaurant was half empty, we decided to try it and when the food arrived it was very little, very expensive and very bad tasting. We ordered a menu for 2 people that said it was worth 28 pounds and when the menu arrived it cost us 75 pounds and we were speechless. We left very angry, we said never again and the man who served us told me to please pay because he knew that the food he served us in the small amount was not worth all that money and also that it was disgusting. The two menus cost us 56 plus 12.5 for the drinks, well, they charged us 2 for the shrimp bread plus 5 for the tea that should be included in the menu. A total scam, please don't go, the dishes are not worth that price and we are very, very angry. Never again.

Love the food so tasty great service

Poor quality food and very expensive. Avoid at all costs. Duck was dry and over cooked. Egg fried rice had very little egg in it and wasn't nice. Should have eaten out for the price.

Veey good food and service. No draft beer unfortunately. Have been visiting occasionally for over 40 years and doesn't look much different than it did then! Very convenient for tube and buses. Will be back.

The food was flavourless , the staff disinterested and no atmosphere. I was amazed to see so many good reviews......just goes to show, you don't know until you try for yourself! Let me spare you the trouble, give this place a miss.

Had a 3 course lunchtime meal here today open between 12 and 2pm it was very nice and the food was lovely the bill was under £40 for 4 of us good service would recommend

I have come to this restaurant for many years, and I can only say that the food and staff are excellent. Tonight I am amazed at just how good my Spare Rib starter has been, sweet, succulent and melts in the mouth. I had Sweet and Sour Pork Hong Kong style with Fried Soft Noodles pleasantly smokey. Their portions are huge, I have had to ask for a doggy bag to take with me. Great quality, fresh food, next time I will bring friends to share with. Each decade they get better! I highly recommend this restaurant.

First time here, but will definitely be coming back. The staff are SO friendly, and the main course portions are really generous. I also love that it’s been open for almost 50 years - can’t believe I’ve never been before!

Adorable service provided by the staff it’s just outstanding

Tried their King prawn fried rice, Fried beef with white mushroom, Sizzling king prawns with tomato and garlic sauce, Sliced duck with chilli and black bean sauce and plain boiled rice. Absolutely Mouthwatering and Worth every penny. 😋 They will serve all the dishes on a warmer. It is a stainless box that has candles inside. It keeps the food warm. The staff are very friendly and professional. They serve food very quickly right after taking your order.. Overall it feels like you are in China because it is how it was decorated. Prices are average compared to other Chinese cuisine.

A great restaurant. Don't let the slightly old-fashioned decor put you off. It's comfortable and clean and the service was great. Terrific food - far better than your average local Chinese. Large portions and beautifully cooked. Just under £60 for two with starters and 3 pints of lager (canned). Great value. Recommended.

Sorry, I rarely leave negative reviews but this is entirely deserved. I placed a takeaway order for a simple duck dish. As there was no option for a combo, I ordered rice on the side. Arrived as the food was 'just ready' and was home within 10mins to eat... ...*attempt to eat. The rice - a chinese staple, what they are famed for... gluey, stodgy and cheap quality. May as well have been plain boiled glue for all the egg and frying it had seen. Pappy, pasty and throroughly horrible. The duck dish - not even average. A generic stock-tasting dark soy-stained watery juice for 'sauce', no chilli, and the meat -=- again - I have no idea what parts of the duck I was meant to be eating, or whether reconstituted duck is even a thing - but if it is, that is what I had. Incidentally when I arrived the restaurant was empty. That is to say noone except the owner and a single waitress plus the chef - who looked surprisingly jolly - maybe its funny being paid a wage to produce what he turned out. I was left hungry, disappointed angry even. Never again. ZERO stars/5.

Ridiculous prices AVOID! Most Chinese takeaways offer free Prawn crackers when you spend a certain amount me and my partner spent over £30 on our takeaway and they charged £3.50 for prawn crackers RIP OFF. £4.50 for a stingy bag of chips. And portions very small had to laugh at the crispy seaweed £4.50 for approximately 4 table spoons worth and it tasted like fried string. Should of realised it would be rubbish as there was only 2 customers dining in the restaurant on a Saturday evening..

Food is great always, annoyed I haven’t discovered this little gem earlier! Authentic food, good size portions. Best Chinese in North London. I don’t live within delivery radius, so I always dine in, but don’t let the quietness fool you, they are super busy with deliveries.

Great value set lunch; soup, main and ice cream £10! Decent food, amazing value if on a budget

I went to the honeymoon restaurant to try out, one of their weekday lunch time specials. The honeymoon is a long standing Chinese restaurant that has been around for a long time. They offer a 4 course menu (which tea is one of the courses) for the price of a main. I have to say it was enjoyable and good value. We ordered a number 13 and 25. They were both tasty, and we're given a chicken and sweetcorn soup to start with. The soup was good and you could see decent size pieces of chicken. The mains were good and we had soy on the table, and were given chilli oil too. The tea with the meal was nice, and I like having Chinese tea with a Chinese meal. You get a choice of ice-cream or fruit salad at the end. We got one of each and shared it. It was a nice finish to the meal. I'd like to come back and try some of the other dishes on the menu. It was around the £20 mark for both of us.

Quality of food excellent as always. Service disinterested at best, brutal at worst. Lately got very expensive so very sadly won't be going back.

My wife and myself re visited the Restaurant last Friday evening. Our last visit was about 50 years ago, when we were courting. We no longer live in London so it was a special treat for us , we were not disappointed , the restaurant looked just as it did back then. It is still in the same family, the current owners are the 2nd generation. It was funny because my wife asked where the toilet was and the waitress said it’s still in the same place as it was 50 years ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The best Chinese restaurant in London.

My family have taken me is since I was a small child and it's kept up it's great standard, great tasting food and value for money. The real deal is the lunch menu, it's great value and I think the dishes are actually better than the evening dishes. Parking can be a little hit and miss and hard to find. You can park outside the restaurant but will need to pay at the meter, if you don't mine a 10 min walk simply park at Asda and walk over.

It's a traditional Chinese restaurant with a large selection of food. The food is top quality and delicious at a reasonable price. During our visit with the family everything was tidy and clean. Have nothing but good things to say about the place.

Tried this after several years. Last time I remember this restaurant was really good. However I think its gone downhill. The mixed vegetables tasted like water and the special fried rice tasted like the shrimps had expired. The sweet and sour pork were OK. Such a shame because the staff were decent.

Food was lovely and still being run by the same family when I first started going over twenty years ago

I am not a fan of Chinese cuisine but more vegitarian food on the menu here than expected, open late, cleanish and polite service.. The Mei Kwei Liu is sweet so perhaps more suited to set alight than to drink but the staff don't tell you that.

Very long wait for the food. Service was very slow and the waitressss seemed disinterested. The manager was saying sorry we busy but others were being served before us. The food was delicious when it did eventually come but by that time we were no longer hungry so took it too go. One thing to note is that the set menu is not clear if the price is per person or per portion. We made that mistake of not checking that it was per person and ended up paying over £170 for 4 people! Not impressed.

It took us a while to choose a Chinese restaurant to dine at in an area we didn’t know so well, but I am glad we chose to go to Honeymoon at random. The food was absolutely amazing. Some of the best Chinese I have had in a long time! Staff ,including the manager, were lovely and carried out excellent service. Had to leave a tip and reassure them that I will be back again despite being an hour away!

Our taste buds were in need of a Chinese 'hit' so we decided to visit the Honeymoon. Why eat in when we can eat out and they have been there for 55 years. The restaurant was clean with spotless tablecloths and napkins. The decor is very 1970 but you can really relax which is often difficult in some restaurants - plus it adds to the charm of the place. We were left to decide what we wanted- a HUGE menu- and when each course arrived it looked as you expected it to look- and tasted as you expected it to taste. the portions were larger than some other restaurants. Most importantly, we didn't leave with the salty/monosodium glutamate taste in our mouths. While the restaurant was fairly empty (early Sunday evening) there was a constant stream of takeaways (to collect) with waves and friendly greetings from regulars. Definitely a gem of a restaurant and one we will use again.

Rang up for a takeawauy dellvery Saturday night. Duck turned up with no plum saus. When I rang up and asked for the owner, he said he was too busy and hung up. The rest of the order waa cold and tasteless too.

Fantastic meal. Hasn't changed in the 30years we've been coming. Brough dad for his birthday. Excellent service, went with a set menu. Honestly you can't go wrong with the Honeymoon. My one gripe was that we were 9 people. 2 of which were children under the age of 8. Charged at full price. Again not too much of an issue. Set menu included fruit salad and ice cream. At the end of the meal to be told there was no fruit salad only ice cream. We asked for 2. I repeat 2 bowls of lychees instead and we were flat out told no. It's not on the set menu. You will be charged extra. Bill was already at £300 We declined. Wasn't impressed that they wouldn't budge an inch. It may not seem like much but as only half of the party only wanted ice cream the least they could do was check a few lychees in a bowl for dad's dessert. We will go again but will order a la carte and one dish for the kids to share.

Firstly ignore the negative sit in reviews, we went to celebrate a family friends birthday party of 17 fairly loud people, the venue is great and the food had a massive selection possibly 3rd of the menu, did not have that oil smell and the service never felt like we had to wait but equally we were not badgered, we were served by the owner his wife and a lovely young lady they happily explained to the party any questions about the food as we had a mix of very and non veg amongst us, the red wine is lovely and smooth, sizzler plates enticing and exciting as they arrive with a real sizzle the Peking ribs fell of the bone just how I like them portions are great, prawn crackers did not taste or smell stale, the restaurant had every table occupied and they still managed to please everyone furthermore as some of us had not met since lockdown despite them closing at 11 on a Friday they still stayed open for us to have our after dinner natter unrushed unhurried, very pleasant staff and will definitely make this our regular Chinese place huge selection of wonderful dishes you can see and taste why this place is one of the longest established restaurants in Southgate. Well done guys hope you are going to be around for many more years to come and very clean and tidy including the cutlery venue and it is nice to see real chopsticks not that I can use them but others in our group did. They even when requested provided extra Kung Po sauce 👍😁 if you looking for a great evening weather in a large party or an intimate night this is definitely your place.

Honeymoon is a North London classic. I've been coming here for many years and the food still holds up to this day. I'm typically fussy when it comes to my food and have never had an issue with Honeymon! 6* if It was an option!

We have loved Honeymoon since we lived in the area and now travel from the other side of Herts to get here. We try others but always return because it is consistently excellent both eat in and take away. Finally thought to take a pic of the take out menu.

The place was empty other than my friend and me, so the service was very attentive. They brought the wrong wine, I didn't complain... it was OK. The dishes were pretty nice. The starters more than the mains. But nothing outstanding, just nice. The decor was cute and kitch ... though they definitely need to consider tidying up their ceiling, through which you could see all the workings ... including very dusty and noisy AC.

Visited Saturday evening as a family of five. The set meal was delicious and plentiful as always. We love that the food always arrives at the table piping hot, is delicious, and the service efficient and polite. The restaurant ambience is also very comfortable and we will continue to return.

The most amazing Chinese food. Family owned, with great hospitality and always consistently great food. Fantastic fresh Lobster and great seafood. Everything is good though and you'll never regret eating here. We travel from Dubai and always eat here. Truly the best. Thank you.

Wonderful service accompanied by great food

Went here recently for a large family meal to celebrate my birthday. We had 10 people in our group, and the staff were very accommodating with us to make sure we were able to sit close to one another (given COVID-19 rules). We had the set menu meals which were delicious. Particularly we enjoyed the stir fried beef, sizzling lamb and we ordered morning glory on the side which was equally delicious. The staff were friendly and did very well to serve us, given how busy it was due to Eat out to help out. Will be coming back soon surely for another meal.

We just ordered the lobster noodles that we saw on Sambal Shiok’s Instagram page, the roast pork, roast duck, lo han chai, Chinese style roast chicken and egg fried rice and paid £75!!!!! The only thing that was HALF DECENT was the roast pork. Everything else was garbage. The lobster noodles was soggy mush and the lobster clearly wasn’t fresh. The lo han chai lacked any kind flavour and was an overlooked mess, no crisp, no crunch; the egg fried rice was basic, again with no flavour and the Chinese style roast chicken was drenched in this thick sauce. I am actually appalled that they feel that it’s okay to serve this food to people and charge them these kinds of prices. I could’ve gone to Chinatown for a way better meal for a fraction of the price. Never ever ever again! Ever. Also, don’t always trust food bloggers/restaurant recommendations. This was truly vile and I will take recommendations with a pinch of salt moving forward. I’ve just managed to swallow this tripe and I’m throwing the leftovers in the bin or maybe I’ll give it to foxes. Disgusted. They’ll never see my money again.

Disgraceful, Appalling, and dreadfully rude: Booked for 7.30 arrived 7.38; kept waiting for 3 minutes. Eventually the owner rudely pointed to a table, As we sat he said aggressively We only hold the bookings for 15 minutes you are late! I said No it’s only just gone 7.40. He was then so offensive; looking for an argument, saying "No it’s nearly 8.00. I said. "Well let’s eat first and argue later." This lad then came over and said I’m so sorry! I heard what was said and I must apologise. Such a polite young man and it must have been embarrassing for him as he explained that the man was his Father. The lads name is Anthony he looked after us for the rest of the evening with such impeccable service and manners. After the meal I reminded the owner of how rude he had been and that it was left to his son to apologise. I said that his son has more manners in his little finger than he had in his whole body. To which he told me to F off and kept repeating it until I had left the premises. Wrong man for the service industry!

Come here with very high expectations which i know i shouldn't have, started off on the wrong foot as the place was near enough empty but we was offered a table in a dark corner which we refused and still dont understand why we wasn't offered this as there was only three tables occupied from the time got there and left, we sat in a tad better place but very disappointed with the decor, and everything being very dated, reason for my 3 stars rather than a 1 was that the food was alright, i spoke to the owner and asked why it had taken me over 50 rings to get through and he said i take it off the hook as were to busy, not really good customer service.

This place is fantastic. The food is great and the manager is really friendly. Took my wife and son for lunch today as they do a four course lunch menu; soup, meal with rice or noodles, ice cream or fresh fruit salad and coffee, all for £7.50 (price correct at time of review, August 2020). It's a great place to eat in the evening and is convenient for buses and the tube station being only yards away. I'd definitely recommend this place.
