Holohans Pantry in Belfast

What a delight! Recommended Holihans by our hotel and it didn’t disappoint. Despite being super busy the team were charming and professional and the food was delicious. In particular the chicken and leek pie and the Boxty Wine by the glass was available and well priced. Local beers complimented the food wonderfully. Highly recommended if you get a chance. But do ring and book. Pretty popular spot.

So disappointed. Houlohans on the Barge was fabulous, this was certainly not. My husband ordered chowder, which lacked flavour, seasoning and was full of potato. I ordered Chicken boxty which I usually love. This was so so disappointing, probably worst boxty ever! It lacked flavour, seasoning and had no taste. The chicken in tarragon cream was missing the tarragon and had no flavour. This place may impress tourists who want Guinness and boxty….. just so sad it does little to impress locals! Next to the rice pudding….. horrendous stodge. This was worse than school dinners. The only thing we enjoyed was the imported wine!

Very prompt service and not too hovering. Food was delicious. I thought it odd for a Broccoli and Bleu Cheese soup but I was mistaken. Very yummy. My only critique would be a touch more Bleu Cheese but I’m a big cheese fan. Guinness Beef pie was delicious and the accompanied sauce was to die for. Thanks so much.

I am from Bulgaria and I was visiting your beautiful country. We visited the restaurant on the recommendation of a friend because we wanted to try traditional cuisine. We were greeted by a great atmosphere and friendly staff. They explained all the dishes in detail and everything we ordered was very tasty. We were very impressed and on our next visit we will visit you again!

We were recommanded by our hotel and it was a great choice. Although we tought we were going to have live irish music, which was not. The waitress did not speak or understant english and someone else had to come to her rescue to take our order. But the food was great and we had a nice evening.

Fabulous service here, from entering to food and drink suggestions to leaving. Seafood boxty with local salmon and smoked haddock, seasonal veg was a great complement. Lovely Irish gin as well. Highly recommend!

Warm welcome from Jayde for lunch. This restaurant was recommended to us by someone in town. Homemade dishes. The menu offers different local specialties. The dishes are very good and served hot. The service was perfect. We were even able to chat with the chef. We will come back!

The pan boxty was quite burnt for some people in the group. Fortunately mine was not. However, it wasn't that tasty anyway. The pudding was really bad, nobody ate more than half of it. The cheese platter was the best of all, but they can leave out the crackers.

The food here was absolutely wonderful, and we really enjoyed getting a taste of the local cuisine. Since my partner is a very sensitive Coeliac, we made sure to inform the restaurant when booking—and I’m happy to say we were incredibly well taken care of. The well-informed staff were kind and attentive, guiding us through the menu and pointing out what was safe to order. While they were upfront about the general risks of cross-contamination (since the food is prepared in the same kitchen), they went above and beyond to reassure us. They double-checked everything with the kitchen, made sure separate cookware and fryers were used, and handled everything with real care. They even adapted certain dishes to be gluten-free for us. My partner had absolutely no symptoms after the meal, which further confirms the level of care and precautions the restaurant took on our behalf. Highly, highly recommend this spot if you're looking for delicious food with genuinely thoughtful service (gluten-free or otherwise).

What an amazing place! We turned up without booking and, although fully booked, they were able to accommodate us and the service was exceptional. Friendly and welcoming staff, they just couldn’t do enough for you! A nice range of drinks and then the food… we had the vegan pie… so tasty! Made on site, healthy, delicious food! The surroundings are beautiful, completing a fantastic eating experience! A real Irish restaurant in Belfast. I cannot recommend this place enough!

A small restaurant that looks like an old pub as you walk in.

This restaurant is great for a casual dinner or when you just fancy exceptional food without a fuss. We visited Holohans on Saturday evening as a group of friends. Big shout out to our amazing server Jayde, who couldn’t have looked after us any more than she did. Food was superb, of very high quality, well presented and mouth wateringly tasty. The place is cosy without being too small, with a really friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend when visiting the city.

One of the better meals I had during a 10 day trip. The chicken boxty was delicious and so were the carrots and I don't even like carrots. Everyone kept apologizing for how long the food was taking but I don't know why 😆 I don't drink wine but the wine list looked impressive. Very warm and friendly atmosphere.

The flavors of Ireland that you have been looking for, or at least I was. Visiting from the states, I came across Holohan's on Google maps, it said Irish food, which I had been craving all week. My wife ordered the bacon chop, which came with braised cabbage and a sauce that just lit the dish up in flavor. I had the delicious pie, with such tender beef and wonderful gravy. We started our dinner our with some small plates. My wife has whipped goats cheese mousse and I started with the ham and pea soup of the day which was perfect. We finish our meal out with the sticky toffee pudding, that was rich in flavor. I would love to see Calvin and Emir open a restaurant in the states so I wouldn't have to make it all the way to Belfast to eat again, but I might just have to do that.

Will not be back - the food isn’t special enough to put up with the very poor service. Staff fussed around two over bearing “influencers “ who were constantly on their phones - while we waited a good 45 minutes for our main course. Didn’t bother ordering dessert, we just wanted to pay up and leave.

Booked for Sunday lunch at short notice and now realise why it was so easy to get a table! Had eaten in The Barge in the past and had high expectations for some great authentic well executed food. Sadly we were both very disappointed. Had gone out for Sunday lunch and therefore went for the roast of the day ………. Since when did chicken thigh become a Sunday Roast and since when did chicken thigh come with a £25 price tag !! Very little chicken to be found on it and quite tasteless. And I may be wrong but the over crispy roast potatoes with lots of burnt crisp bits mixed through definitely looked and tasted like they were cooked in a chip pan !! The rest of the dish was ‘fine’. Felt more like a meal from a gastropub than a restaurant. All in all a very underwhelming average meal which was over priced for what it was. Definitely not what we were expecting and sadly doesn’t compare to many other restaurants in Belfast that never disappoint. I fully appreciate that the restaurant scene is so difficult at the minute due to hefty service charges but I’d rather pay a little more for a great meal than leave hungry after a below average £25 dish ……. Sadly would not return, overpriced and underwhelming.

This was my wife’s 60th birthday and there were 23 of us. It was an awful experience. Food was pathetic and service verged on rude. Will never go back. Disgraceful in all honesty

Super delicious food! My first impression was great—the staff were excellent at explaining the day’s specials. The way she described them made me really want to try everything! The atmosphere is fantastic, and the prices are reasonable. I feel like I’ve finally found truly amazing Irish food. Can’t wait to visit again!

This is an absolute gem of a place. On arrival, we were greeted by very friendly staff and made to feel very welcome. The menu is wonderful, featuring lots of local, homemade dishes, we both opted for pie of the day for our main course, which was beef & peppercorn sauce, all I can say is absolutely stunning! We have already booked to come back here, it was excellent value for money and the people here are so nice.

Amazing all around. There was a large party seated just prior to us arriving and thus the kitchen was very busy; the serving staff and manager were all very accommodating, even though our wait was nearly non existent. If I could give 6 stars I would!

A fantastic restaurant serving delicious traditional Irish food, like boxty. The flavour of the food was amazing. Loses a point for service but that is not aimed at the staff what so ever, the staff were very friendly and helpful, however one waitress was covering the whole floor section and it was hard to get her attention, that is not her fault at all, she was trying her best but definitely some more staff would have made it a 5/5 meal.

I took my partner to Holohans for her birthday. It is a busy place, which can only mean it is very popular! The food is great, and a Christmas menu is on offer. The service was excellent, and there was one young male server who was just so polite with everything he asked or had to tell us! We had a fantastic night, and I highly recommend it.

What an absolute gem or a restaurant! We were greeted with such warmth and hospitality and given a choice of tables, by the best staff you could hope for!! The food was delicious - we went for the two course set menu. Simple food made perfectly with love and attention to detail. I had the beef pie, my wife the veggie Christmas and we both said it was possibly the best food we’ve eaten. Pudding was amazing and a great choice of drinks. A perfect evening in a perfect restaurant. Thanks to all who made it so memorable.

We arrived at this restaurant by pure chance, but it was one of those surprises that brighten the day. From the beginning, the attention was exceptional. The owner, with genuine kindness, made us feel at home and was kind enough to recommend the most authentic dishes in the area, moving us away from the typical fish and chips that are usually the easy option. Thanks to their suggestions, we were able to enjoy unique and traditional flavors that we would hardly have discovered on our own. Additionally, he not only cared about our dining experience, but also gave us great recommendations for places to visit off the beaten path, which made our visit to the area even more special. The welcoming atmosphere and dedication to the customer make this place a place to which we will undoubtedly return. If you are looking for something authentic, delicious and with friendly service, this restaurant is a must-stop. Highly recommended!

The beef pie was excellent and so did the stew. The toffee cake is a little bit sweeter for us but it was still delicious. Servers there were very friendly and caring.

Delightful and authentic Irish cookery with astute and friendly service. I found the portion size for pie a bit small with only a mashed potato accompaniment, however, it was delicious so I’ll not fault it.

Visited Holohan's at the recommendation of our hotelier as it was close and offered a menu we were unlikely to find anywhere else (a modern take on Irish dishes). They had some vegetarian options (one having sold out as we were one of the last table sittings) but the remaining dish was VERY good. The owner and staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very cozy which served well on the chilly October night we visited.

We visited this location on a Tuesday night. We were seated quickly and the dinner started off wonderfully. There were 3 servers working. I didn't get their names... But a guy who was at the bar, a lady with red hair and one with brown. We originally had the brown hair waitress, but all 3 were working the upstairs and downstairs. The food was adequate. The service from the guy and the red hair was wonderful. However, the brown hair waitress seemed extremely distracted. The issue came at the end of dinner when we requested our check. We asked the brown hair waitress (as she passed by our table). Because she never checked on us at all after she brought our starter. She had been having a lengthy conversation with another table. Needless to say she never brought the check, 29 minutes later, after routinely signaling her and saying excuse me and being completely ignored. While she had a conversation with the 2 people at the table this whole time, and the red hair waitress was dashing everywhere and the guy was bringing drinks from the bar. We asked the red haired waitress as she bustled by with arms fukknif food for our check. We had the bar tender guy bring our check and apologize for the delay. I honestly got up and left as my husband paid, and still the brown haired waitress was talking to the table... We'll over 30 minutes, while the 2 other people were dealing with the whole restaurant. When we'd been seated, there was a table near us discussing how they hadn't been able to get their check and we could tell they were agitated about it. If only we knew it was a foreshadowing. This made our whole experience very unfavorable... And the only reason I'm giving service anything over a 1 rating... Is because the other staff were busting their a33 to cover the whole restaurant and they deserve a positive rating!

Poor portion sizes (ordered beef boxty - £17.50). The staff couldn’t split a bill either at the till and I ended up paying way more for my food as I wasn’t drinking alcohol. Such a shame.

Went to Holohan's tonight for a pretheatre meal. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and the service from Janine and Abby was second to none. Attentive and friendly but not intrusive. Thank you for giving us a great experience. We will definitely be back

What a great place to eat and enjoy excellent food with a fun vibe. I had the Boxty and loved it. Highly recommend this small but very classy restaurant.

Worth a stop if you’re traveling through Belfast!! I had no expectations and was blown away. I was passing through Belfast while on a road trip, and decided to give this place a try and they could accommodate walk ins. I’m surprised this place is not more busy because the food is amazing! I tried the sweet cure bacon chop, and my partner tried the handmade pie of the day (chicken and leek). Highly highly recommend the bacon chop. It was tender with a slightly sweet crust, it paired very well with the sauce. The pie was also fantastic, but of the two dishes, the chop was the clear winner. My biggest disappointment was not having stayed in Belfast longer as I would have loved to explore their menu more

First time at Holohan’s at the weekend and certainly will be the first of many! Service and food were top notch. I went for the boxty with braised beef which was delicious. Happily recommend this place to anyone.

Went here when travelling solo. Had 3 courses and every course was fantastic. Couldn't fault anything. In particular though the Irish stew was phenomenonal

Lovely food and people but I did have a seat next to the kitchen door which was very loud and squeaky that I found infuriating and it interrupted my conversation multiple times. I did ask to move but sadly we couldn't. When the restaurant filled up it was a bit better but plleeaaasseee put some oil on the door so it doesn't ruin other people's experience.

We went on Sunday for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary, my husband ordered roast of the day and I went for cod GL version, taste was lovely,good presentation, however, the size of the fish was unbelievable! I didn't get even 50gr of fish, 4 potatoes for 18£ that was all I had, very disappointed , not food value for money ( you can see on the photo how small was the fish).Service a bit slow, although we were ready to order, tried calling staff attention, it took 15min to someone takes our order. Again food was lovely but the amount of fish really upset me.

Holohans has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere, partly down to the music and decor, mostly down to the staff. The food itself was a highlight of my trip to Belfast, particularly the smoked chicken starter. This is food cooked perfectly and with care.

Wow!! This was my favorite meal in Belfast. Had the soup of the day (leek & potato) and the pie of the day (pork with sage) and it was delightful! I left my plates clean and with a full stomach because I loved the food so much. Sadly was too full for dessert but the menu looked delicious. Paired it with a glass of sauvignon blanc. The servers were so kind and attentive as well. Such a lovely restaurant with great food, I highly recommend!

Really wanted to like it more than I did but was ultimately disappointed. Fish boxty arrived suspiciously quickly. It was lukewarm and seemed like it had been sitting in the kitchen for quite some time. It didn't taste fresh. Also there are no beers on draught which added to the disappointment.
