Bit of weird one. I used to come here all the time. But it has been a few months since my last visit, I came here with my husband for a little date, the service was good, and our waitress was sooo lovely !! Couldnt fault her at all and was so helpful. My Husband ordered a Venison burger. He said it wasn't great, and even I was shocked on the portion of his fries. There was barely any on his plate, lol. But we brushed it off maybe it looked small portion because the plates are humongous, lol. However, when the people next to us got their order, it was a hell lot more generous size of chips. So we just brushed it off and he said oh well more room for desert lol. My steak was cooked very nice, however it came with the thicker chips, that was so undercooked it really ruined the meal, yes I ate most of them as I was starving, but my husband fries were cooked lovely, ( just not alot of them) but mine were awful, the neighbour looked at mine and said they look like they could break the windows, his words not mine haha. Also they forgot the add on to the steak which is a flat mushroom, however this was taken off the bill. We finally got to the deserts, we both ordered a salted carmal sundae, this was really nice and we both enjoyed it, however .... there wasn't any salted caramel!!! Or if there was we couldn't taste it, or again we're we unlucky and had 2 without them lol. But it was still nice without it so we didn't really mind :). Also when we arrived alot of things on the menu, we not available and we heard throughout our time there more and more items were out of stock, Maybe we caught them on an off day, as I havnt had a bad meal from them before and I've been going to them on and off for 25 years lol. The service was still really good though, the blonde waitress went above and beyond !!. Just didn't feel this time we didn't get our £70 worth.

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday but neither of our party were very impressed. At best all three of us thought the food was somewhat average. The slow cooked lamb shank I had, contained a lot of gristle/fat, no trace of cheddar cheese on top as advertised and buttered greens were white cabbage that was so undercooked that it was hard to cut. Used to come here a lot but will not be returning just like it seems with others as the place used to be full Sunday lunchtime but now appeared to be only half full and quiet. Also there are so many other eateries that offer better food such as Hickory's in Earlswood that we went to last Friday, gorgeous food and their rib of beef is to die for and is twice the size of a chef and brewer one. Also, Miller and Carter in Sutton Park the previous Sunday was a fantastic experience, a bit more expensive but in a totally different league to the Holly Bush.

Recently visited on a Friday evening and had a table booked at 7o'clock for 9 people. Staff didn't mention that certain items on the menu weren't available until we ordered them and no alternative was offered. Waited average time for our starters which a couple were slightly disappointing in portion size. Our starters were cleared and after half an hour our mains still hadn't arrived and we were told they would be 15 minutes... Half an hour later still no mains by this time it was 9o'clock and had been there since 7! There was no explanation made to us as to why we were waiting so long! 15 minutes later still no mains had arrived and by this point we had gone past the point of eating so unfortunately we had to leave, hungry and disappointed. I also don't think we were the only table waiting this long so it was clear there were problems that evening at the holly bush! We were promised a phone call from the manager which we are still yet to recieve.

I'm sorry but the waiting we experienced for food was completely unacceptable last night. People were walking out around us in disgust. Thinks happen we all understand put dealing with it is another. Service and update on length of wait very poor, and when we got some answers was very unrealistic. 'The wait tonight is 30/35 mins, so 90 mins was taking the Michael. 'Your food will be along in 5mins is 25mins' Other people were complaining one I heard said waited 2hrs 20, another was eating starters before we sat down and still hadn't had mains when we eventually got ours. Food was ok although one dish an expensive curry honestly had one piece of chicken, so after waiting at least an hour and a half wasn't really acceptable! This was replaced but all too late. I'd rate it one but food was quite good.

Menu is as you would expect for an English pub but with a few nice twists added. Food was very tasty, everyone even the children were very happy. Kids were also offered puzzles and crayons to keep them busy. An extremely enjoyable visit. Waitresses were very attentive without being in your face. Scored four stars because the only complaint was from the kids,,,,,no WI-FI. Silly complaint really but hey. If you want a good family get together then look no further

We use the Holly Bush for food on a regular basis (at least once a fortnight) and I decided to take my staff there for the Festive dinner, which was booked weeks in advance. We arrived just before 8pm, our table booking time, and were told that there was a half hour wait on food as they were busy. This was fine as the place looked packed but, as I have always stated on trip advisor, if a place knows it is going to be busy then it ensures that the waiting and kitchen staff numbers are at the necessary levels. We ordered our starters and mains at 8.20pm and received the starter at 9.00pm and then the main arrived at 10.05pm!! To make matters worse the portion of turkey on the plate could be described as ‘bite sized’ but by then we have lost the will to live, and any food was better than none at all.I appreciate that the lovely waitress did all she could to apologise and offered free desserts, but when you are waiting for food for so long the need to eat decreases and it puts a damper on the evening, even more so when I am treating people to a night out and a meal.I have to say that we have not encountered a problem like this at the Holly Bush for about 3 years and I do hope that it was a one off, but others who are planning to visit the pub need to know about any issues, and the pub needs to have constructive feedback.A few weeks ago we tried to book a table here for New Years Eve but they were fully booked and, in a way, I am glad they were because if last Friday, 16th December, was anything to go by, you may get your food by lunch time on New Years day.All I can say is that I hope that the Holly Bush Management do not sacrifice its service levels and food quality in order to maximise its intake of customers to turn over as much money as it can. This will only have an adverse effect, as increased numbers now will become decreased numbers in the future.I will be back, and I will also share my thoughts and concerns with them.10 out of 10 2 weeks ago…………….4 out of 10 last Friday.

We had a lovely evening with 4 of us... table booked for 8pm and didn't leave until almost 11 - which was nice, but perhaps a little slow if in a rush. Thats said it wasn't an issue for us. The meals were generous in size and very tasty... the rib of beef was lovely. Deserts great too and staff very friendly. Would recommend and happily return.

Came here last night for a meal, we hadn't booked and turned up on the off chance of getting a table,At the bar I asked if they had any tables and was told that they were busy and we were welcome to eat in the bar area if the restaurant part was full .I asked in the restaurant and after juggling a few things round they managed to find us a table , they told us that there may be a 30min delay as busy. The pleasant young lady who served us took our order and was back within 10-15 min with our starters. And then the same with our main meals. The food was really nice and as we haven't been here for some time we were impressed. So well done Hollybush on your food and service .We'll be back soon .

After visiting here a few weeks back and having had such a positive experience - we thought we would take the rest of the family for a Saturday lunchtime catch up and this was the obvious choice. We booked only a couple of days before to avoid disappointment and arrived at around 1.30pm and were shown straight to the table. Both Bar and Restaurant Staff are friendly and attentive and nothing is too much trouble despite the place getting quite busy quite quickly - and food arrived not long after ordering. Great value for money - superb quality of food with an impressive choice - and a really relaxed atmosphere that even appears to have a dog-friendly bar area. It's hard to think of a better pub in the area - and is definitely worth revisiting again and again.

Used to really enjoy the food here and the friendly waiting staff, the waiting staff are still friendly but under preasure as the food and the time it takes to serve it is poor.Had quite a few meals here with family and really enjoyed them, but the last 2 meals we had have been poorly cooked, steak that should have been medium to rare came well done and then took an age to re cook, leaving the meal arriving when every body else had finished and again a similar experience the last time we went. Having recommended the place to a friend, he too had a similar bad experience with over 2 hours waiting for food and then not being very good

When we married 19/11/1966 and in the evening we visited the Holly Bush with 2 friends for dinner. As a surprise for my wife I booked an intimate meal on the occasion of our Golden Wedding. Booking was easy and I expressed a wish for a quiet table for 2.We arrived 19/11/2016 and were shown to a perfect table, made very welcome and my request had obviously been noted as the manager sent 2 glasses of wine to our table with her compliments and her best wishes !!Sophia (Sophie) looked after us, came to our table and took our order. This was served quickly and efficiently and was prepared, cooked and delivered beautifully. The whole experience was SUPER. The ambiance of the Inn, attentiveness of the staff, and quality of the meals was second to none. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

Visited today for lunch with husband, the pub is set in lovely surroundings perfect for a quick stop if your out walking, loads of parking spaces and benches at the front for good weather days. The pubs is nicely decorated modern traditional with bar and dining seating. The staff were quick to seat us, take drinks orders and discussed the menu options with preferences/swaps available. The staff were attentive and greeted customers warmly it looks like they have a good few regulars as they knew first names which is always nice. Now the downside we ordered starters 1 hot salmon, 1 Stilton mushrooms, we waited over 45 minutes for these and were disappointed at the simplicity for the wait and looked around to find only a basic number of diners not overrun. But we held out for mains 30 mins later and again another disappointment husbands mixed grill was a variety of burnt meats one not really distinguished from the other, no peas no salad no coleslaw just meat and sweet potato fries again cooked to death. I had the beef and pulled pork which was nice but served on a huge bone? I don't know why? my sp fries were also cooked to death and a quarter corn in the cob was microwaved. My hub who normally says nothing let the chap know when he came over to ask if all was ok and he promptly offered deserts but as we were lunching before school run had to go. He removed the mixed grill from the bill without us having to argue the point or even suggest it. As I said the staff are lovely the pub is warm and inviting easy to park nice location the only downside was the food. I would visit again and recommend but maybe order a light bite instead.

Dropped into The Holly Bush on a Friday lunchtime for a quick lunch with my son.Familiar with the Chef & Brewer menu, and knowing the options which catered to our requirements, both vegetarian, one coeliac, ordering was very easy, and there were no problems with availability of our 2 x battered halloumi (vegetarian fish and chips), one of which to be gluten free. The food when it came tasted very fresh, and the service was speedy.I liked the comfortable decor, old world English pub with contemporary details, good spacing between tables, and have no complaints at all about this flying visit.

Following booking a meal for 13-8 adults and 5 children, I was requested to pre order the main course in advance. The pre ordered meal arrived 1.25 hours late with the excuse that the main meal could not be plated until the garlic bread starter had been finished. This level of inept service really is unacceptable and explains the poor rating.

Four of us had the bubble and squeak starter which was delicious, and one had the Stilton mushrooms which were delightful. Between us we had the seafood board, the Mexican bean burger, game burger and the sea bass and scallop risotto. All dishes went down very well! This was not our first visit to the Hollybush and it definitely will not be our last. Highly recommended!

Cycled to this country pub on a breezy October lunchtime. Interior was cosy and welcoming even at 12 noon with the fire lit. The lunchtime menu was cheap with lots of choice and when you add in a starter or pud for £3 each it is difficult not to have three courses. The mushrooms with stilton were lush. It was quite a wait for the mains but we were in no rush. The mains were all delicious and the choc cake for pud was divine. We will be back

6 of us visited yesterday evening to celebrate my mothers birthday. Four of our group had attended previously and spoke highly of the food however it was a first visit for my husband and I.Having booked a table a couple of weeks ago, the staff did nothing to get the evening off to a good start when they told us that there would be a half an hour wait for our table because a table of 11 had just arrived. When we complained about this, they changed this to that there was a half hour wait for food, but we could go to the table. We were seated and the waitress immediately began to rattle off a list of the items that were not available on the menu.We then waited around fifteen minutes for our orders to be taken. We at this point ordered a second bottle of prosecco, but after ten minutes of waiting for this to be sent to the table, my husband went to the bar tp chase and it appeared that this had been forgotten.A lady who I assume was the supervisor then came to our table and advised that our starters would be another 5 - 10 minutes. She tried her best to be pleasant but given that it was now almost an hour since the time we booked the table, hearing that the chef was 'just getting our camembert nice and gooey' didn't really leave us clapping our hands with joy.The starters came and were fine. Nothing outstanding but fine. The problems really started when the main courses arrived. I am not one to complain normally so it has taken a lot for me to write this review. 3 of our party had the Cambrian Lamb Rump. The quality of the meat was appalling and quite frankly I wouldn't have given it to my dog. One of our party had a particularly bad piece which was, without exaggerating, around 70% fat and totally inedible. My husband had the seafood grill and said that it was completely dry. My mother and father both had steak which was ok at best and again rather chewy. I don't know who the Holly Bush use as a meat supplier but this really needs to be changed! We did complain to the lady who we believed to be supervisor who gave us the bottle of prosecco on the house and a third off our bill. Given that we had a 25% off voucher anyway this didn't exactly seem like a great deal considering that the meals are around the £15 mark each and some were largely inedible.Whilst we did receive an apology, I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant. To add insult to injury on leaving, I used the toilet and there was a strong smell of urine.

Visited early evening when the restaurant was sparsely populated, drinks and food order taken quickly. Our table was unstable and almost like a see saw so we moved to another table as there was plenty available. The waitress informed us that this table was not available to us although there was no reserved sign on it. Our original table was repaired and we returned to it and overheard our very LOUD waitress informing other members of staff that 'they took it upon themselves to change tables' The food was edible but nothing special. Although this is a nice country pub you don't have to travel far to obtain better food and more polite service. We had not visited this establishment for around five years it will be at least another five until we do so again!

Visited here back in February 2016 after turning up at the place on a whim revisiting previous "haunts" from years ago - and having mentioned this to my Dad, it turned out he too had memories of the place from many years before my own - so we decided to take him out for a Sunday lunch treat to show him how it had changed. We'd booked for 1pm and the place was quite lively already (although once we hit 2pm the place was heaving so book in advance to avoid disappointment at busy times) but we were shown straight to our table and the quality of the refurb is immediately apparent.Friendly and attentive (although not intrusive) staff took our drinks order immediately with a great choice of local beers and the food order was taken soon after. We all opted for a traditional Sunday roast although I went for the "trio of meats" option as basically I'm just greedy (although the menu suggests this is for those who can't decide - so I may go with that instead).Meals arrived within around 15 minutes - which for peak Sunday lunchtime was actually just right - and the food was piping hot and genuinely very tasty - just how you like it but without the washing up afterwards - and Dad was enjoying himself so much that he opted for a pudding as well (The sticky toffee pudding was HUGE!).This place is something of a hidden gem - it's off the beaten track so ideal for "making an effort" to get to - and it's definitely on our "winter" places to visit as it's traditional and welcoming and the log fires on a soggy night just make this place perfect.Great food - great staff - great value for money - in fact just great all round really and definitely going back soon.

As mentioned in other reviews this place has potential. This is my 4th disappointing visit due to giving 1 last chance 3 times. Attended today having booked a table. Service was fairly poor throughout. Attempted to serve our mains whilst starter plates still on table. Only removed these when we requested. We ended up with a collection of unused wine glasses and empty drinks on table due to waiting staff not collecting these. We had to request specials and soup of the day etc due to not being advised when being seated.I had the mixed grill which was average with the sausage tasting like it had been in the freezer for a good few months. My wife's corn on the cob was very over cooked making it unpalatable. We would have advised the waiting staff if they would have asked us how our meal was. Ended up walking out due to no one collecting our dessert order! All in all another disappointing experience. My wife took some work colleagues there and had another disappointing experience recently. All in all 5 unsuccessful visits. I really want to like this place but.....
