Holiday Inn Express Newcastle Gateshead, an IHG Hotel in Gateshead

I arrived in Newcastle at 3 a.m., having driven 7 hours from Hastings on my way to Scotland. I had no reservation, but the very helpful receptionist phoned around other hotels in the area to try and find me a bed for the remainder of the night and succeeded brilliantly

After a long drive we were greeted at the hotel with polite and friendly staff,we asked for a accessible room and we got one,it was clean and comfortable it was close to the reception,the bed was comfortable and linen was clean. The breakfast choice was very good and the selection of breakfast items were good,but no banana's?. Overall a good and pleasant stay at this hotel.

The staff were welcoming pleasant and very accommodating, location ideal for a shop at the metro centre or IKEA . Down side was the size of the bed which was not a double more like a large single and the noise from next door and the corridor outside , lastly the shower had no pressure so was more of a wet . Overall staff good , room bad

A car alarm in car Park started at 4ish went on for over an hour, we went for a funeral for an early start. and 3 rooms were all kept awake..it was bad enough the next day , besides been tired..you have to register your car reg at reception why the night reception couldnt wake the owner. Complained at reception the next morning , they said complain at Booking.com. they didn't want to know. Not their problem..

Rooms excellent and spotless. Breakfast average. 6.20 a pint in newcastle too much.

This hotel is amazing I love the fireman’s pole that you can take down to the breakfast area it was a wild experience. Definitely recommend coming here for company retreats

This is the first time we have stayed at a holiday inn and we would definitely use it again. The room was very comfortable with all we needed. Great shower also. Another thing I liked was we could get extra coffee and milk for our room without having to ask at reception. Breakfast was very good as well. We highly recommend it.

Nice stay, you get what you pay for. breakfast was little drab ans had to wait quite a while for more to be put out

Great hotel to stay at when going to the metro centre,staff are very friendly and polite.

The loudest HIE I’ve ever stayed in, beginning at around 6 am. No problem if you’re getting up at 6. Like sleeping in Paddington Station.

Reception kindly allowed us to check in early. We also recieved a hand written note warmly welcoming us to the hotel. Nice personalised touch! Clean and tidy public areas and rooms very clean. A little dated perhaps, but very comfortable with a comfy bed! Breakfast was excellent and a good selection of fresh items. Pleasant and hard working staff. Will definitely return to stay here as it is fantastic location and value for money.

Spotless Hotel. Brilliant value and more than adequate breakfast well prepared. Service stars let this place down as I found staff tended to be preoccupied with other reception computers instead of guest experience. Otherwise very good indeed

Easy to get to, with the Metro centre close by. Rooms are comfortable and clean, breakfast included in the price so worked out to be good value for money. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

We experienced great hospitality here. The Scouse gent at breakfast was sound. My only issue was the lack of plug sockets in the room. Whilst one of us was ironing, the fan was on and a razor was charging. All 3 plug sockets were in use and we wanted to plug something else in. Unfortunately we couldn't. Oh.... And the pillows were not great. It felt almost like it was inflated.

Good value for the money paid. Although this visit, the hotel was much busier, with a diverse array of people. Would use again.

Rooms were a pleasant surprise as they are quite large and modern, bar is open 24/7 and the hotel restaurant pizzas are pretty good. Depending on your room you could end up with a nice view of the Tyne or a smaller river, which is quite nice. We entered the room to the window open and the fan on which was lovely as the room was very cool. Definitely recommend staying here and i would stay here again.

Great location for the metro centre and Newcastle. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. BUT terrible rooms. The double bed is a really small one and the rooms are incredibly hot. It was only 15’ outside, but the rooms are a sweat box. They know this as they provide a fan and a note saying you can ask for a sheet instead of duvet. It would be useful to open the window, but the health and safety brigade have won here and you only get two inches of fresh air. Afraid I would not stay here again.

Day one of 5 days stay and one of the best hotels I have stayed in when I am traveling for work. The room is very large, with a sofa, desk, iron with board, plenty of storage space and a hair dryer, though I won't be using that 😅. Close to plenty of shops (Metro center within walking distance). Small bar and minimal food available (except breakfast) but Just Eat delivered direct to my room (add room number to the address). The staff are very friendly and efficient. Looking forward to 5 days working but with a great hotel room to relax in.

A good hotel to stay at. Our room was fully accessible what made it a bit like being in hospital. Breakfast was good even it was very crowded most of the time some special items like croissants were not available

We stayed for one night. Staff were very friendly and polite but on the evening shift, in the morning completely different staff and attitude.. Hotel have a great location. Rooms are ok, would benefit from air conditioning . Free large parking is a bonus

All good but breakfast could be better. Sausages looked poor and was missing a few things compared to premier Inn.

Arrived after a late flight and made hotel aware in advance that we would be and that we would need a cot, which was provided. However this wasn’t even put up, just laid on the floor and left for us to assemble. A bit of thoughtfulness would go a long way - arriving after midnight with a baby, likely to want to put them to sleep straight away. Otherwise staff we encountered were friendly, breakfast was decent. Rooms dated but clean. Please put sockets by the bed, it’s not good enough in 2024 to not have a plug socket by the bed (one usb socket on one side isn’t sufficient).

The hotel where I stayed for two days was not unfamiliar because it was a chain hotel. Since I had to take care of my own dinner, I took the instant noodles to the restaurant and asked if I could borrow hot water? The staff at the counter were very nice. They nodded and allowed us to use the tableware and help with cleaning. It was really considerate. Awesome hotel! Everyone remember to come and stay! 2024/07/01-07/09

I stay here frequently for work. Troy is always fantastic, the ladies are very friendly too. It’s a budget hotel, my room is always very clean.

Vile experience today. I arrived at 00:45 having just got off a delayed flight into NCL. I was greeted by a receptionist who told me i was "lucky" to be able to check in and telling me off for not contacting him. Horrible attitude from this male member of staff who clearly shouldn't be working in the hospitality industry. I couldnt care less about the rest of the experience at this hotel after that initial experience and won't come back.

Great hotel, comfy beds and good service, apart from Miss Trunchbowl on reception.

Very clean rooms, only downside our room was very cold ❄️ brought this to the attention of Staff at least 3 times. After being out all day we did expect a warm room. The Staff I guess did their best. For this reason only 4 stars. Excellent hotel location for the City But sadly we won't be staying again.

A reasonable price for overnight stay. Room was a bit tired, but comfortable. Quick check-in, Quick servant bar. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.

I had a very bad experience with the duty manager, very rude and irritating attitude. I never recommended this hotel in Newcastle. Though I had a prepaid reservation, because of him I just walked away at midnight and went to another hotel.

The room is in new condition, usable. Since it's HEx, it's easy and simple. No bathrobes, no lotion, but free breakfast is included in the room rate. Parking in front of the hotel is convenient. Parking is not charged. The accommodation is next to the railway, so it is noisy. Suitable for resting while traveling and then continuing on.

Fantastic welcome from Katie and Lauren....so very much important nowadays. We discussed rooms and we moved to a lovely room on the 4th floor overlooking the River Tyne...They recommended The Skiff Inn to eat, which is just across the car park and was faultless. These young ladies are a HUGE asset to your hotel and we cannot speak highly enough about them.

Rooms are tired but clean. Bed frames and carpets need changed very old & worn. Breakfast was,a bonus for the price you pay.

All good , clean and tidy, staff good 👍🏻 only let down for us was the breakfast, in the past at holiday inn the breakfasts have had more choice. But it done the job 👌 stayed here as we watched Michael McIntyre at the Utilita arena, an Uber is between £15-20 each way to the Center. Still worked out a lot cheaper than staying in the city centre on a Saturday. Quite close to the main road but didn’t cause any issues sleeping, would definitely stay here again. The food places nearby are VERY expensive, possibly due to convenience but we just had a KFC as that was cheaper 🤭

In Simple Terms, CONVENIENCE is the Greatest Acolade. Convenient for Newcastle, whatever Your Trip is 'In Aide'. Under £100 including Breakfast for Two. More than Adequate Facilities midst Evening Meal Outlets in View. Under £15 to & From; by Taxi, Door to Door. You would have to pay for Parking and the Driving Chore. Very Comfortable with Helpful, Smilig Staff. Enjoy the Freedom : See a Show, have a Drink and a Laugh!!

Staff were all lovely and we enjoyed our stay. Our dog also enjoyed her little holiday!
