Holi & Bhang Restaurant & Bar in County Durham

We stayed in Farnley Tower which the restaurant is attached to. The whole dining experience was great, we both regularly go for a curry and the food was excellent. My wife said that the Chicken Tikka Masala was the best she's ever eaten, a view I shared for the Lamb Bhuna I had. Service was excellent as was the ambience. If you're in Durham and want a curry then give them a try.

Absolutely so tasty from poppadoms to desert every dish was so nice. Service excellent, food best we have had from an Indian restaurant in a long time. We were greedy and ordered too much, however it was our first time but wont be our last.

Great food, excellent service, nice ambiance. Menu is great, really different to your standard Indian restaurant, quality of ingredients is apparent and tastes spot on. They catered specifically for our 4 year old, a non spicy salmon dish, specifically for my wife, a dish not on the menu (king prawn Methi) and my Jinga Kaali Mirch was exceptional. Also, the menu includes traditional Indian dessert, not the standard ice cream menu of most places, which just tops off the whole experience. We will be back very soon.

The menu looked promising, containing many traditional Indian dishes you don’t often find these days. Unfortunately the taste was more akin to the ubiquitous Bangladeshi run takeaways, catering to the sweet tooth of the locals and not delivering authenticity. The portions were not generous, and then when the price is factored in, leaves you disappointed. Pity, because it has the potential to be so much better.

Went there from the guest house we are staying in and it was great. They made room for us, the food was great best meal I have had in an Indian restaurant in a long time.

As the menu looked expensive I thought I would order online and get 15% discount for collection. After 5 futile tries I rang the restaurant and they took my order over the phone but didn't tell me that upon collection there would be no discount!! I therefore paid full price for what turned out to be a massively disappointing meal - £12:95 for a very stodgy biryani and the crab starters looked awful - copious chillies are not tasty - no subtle flavours. The guy on the desk couldn't have been less bothered but I did suggest I would be less than complimentary on social media . Gilesgate Tandoori I'm coming back!!!

Situated at garden level beneath a substantial guest house/ hotel. Popular with residents and also with take away and deliveroo clients, booking is wise. We eat curry often and would say quality is towards the upper end; not up to London's better restaurants but good nonetheless.

Great restaurant…intimate venue with friendly staff. We shared mains choosing the Kozi Kari Chettinad and Goan Fish Curry…both exceptional and different to any Indian dishes I have tasted before. Like a lot of people, I have had many, many curries - thousands, over the years. The Holi and Bhang Restaurant is one of the very, very best I have ever had. It might actually even be the very best. I am half Sri Lankan and was brought up on proper Asian food. The food at this restaurant was simply stunning - the flavours, textures and style were all, to me, faultless. The guy running it that night – forgive me, but his name escapes me – accommodated us really quite late which was very welcome after a long drive. His attitude to customer service was exemplary – he was fantastic. I seriously give this establishment 10/10.
