We are regular customers. The food is great, service is excellent and staff are very friendly. We will be back.

Gorgeous food. Happy hour is a bargin! They also do takeaway which is awesome!

For 5 years when I couldn't feed myself Ashoka fed me - I had to pay but it was worth every penny - at times I couldn't see to cook and at times I had no will to cook - thank you Ashoka x

Most definitely will not be returning here for a meal, great service but shocking food. Prawn dish was burnt to taste and the prawns were like rubber. The other dish was called a madras chicken curry but I didn't recognise it at all, just a bland watery dish. Gave the propierter some feedback but was just asked me if I had asked to change the dishes, no offer of a reduction of price.

Just had an excellent meal at Ashoka. Food was delicious, service was brilliant and a great venue. Clean and welcoming. Prices are good too. Lots of choice. Definitely be going back again. Highly recommend this restaurant.

A very welcoming reception and even though some of our party were delayed, the staff seemed at ease with our need to delay ordering. Expertly taken orders and food arrived hot and was excellent. I had never eaten an Indian meal before but thus was excellent and I will definitely go again. Very much recommend.

Fantastic food every time and the service is best ever. I started with lamb's liver, now as a cook myself I know how hard it is to cook liver perfect, but to do it in a tandoor is magic. I would Defo recommend this place.

We've been a few times, and it's been amazing every time. Staff recommended some lovely food, and I was able to take home the leftovers. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is really well priced, especially if you order before 6.45 I'm vegetarian, and there's loads for me.

Heard good reports, called in for some food last night after a late finish and was very nice. Would recommend.

Been loads of times and never had a bad meal, however last night the service was really spot on. We were upstairs with only one other couple but never had to chase up a waiter. The lad was good craic and looked after us well, hence the good tip 👍

We went on a Monday night whilst passing through Seaham upon recommendation of our accommodation No. 16. Glad we took their advice - excellent food (we had madras and chicken achar) and helpful and very pleasant staff. The food was tasty and just hot enough for our taste. Would recommend and will return if ever in Seaham again.

We were staying with family in the area and ordered a takeaway online. Process was easy and the food delivered within the hour. Every single thing was delicious especially the Chicken Tikka Sri Lanka. We all agreed that next time we visit, we will eat in the restaurant. Well done guys, your food is so good.

Very disappointed to get home and realise that the restaurant had took no notice of my request to remove the shells from the prawns. Worse still instead of mushroom pilau, I got mushroom bhaji. Only 5 items in the order overall so not difficult to get 100% accurate.

food was piping hot, and the starters was still nice and crisp and not soggy like you get from other takeaways ,plenty of chicken in the Tikka curry it's our only Indian restaurant we ever Order from we've never had a bad order , akki you and the team are still smashing it 😉 😀

Dined on a Tuesday night. Didn't book and although fairly busy got a table for two no problem. Food is second to none, service is excellent with staff that can't do enough for you. We had two of the chefs recommendations/ specials and they were delicious. 100% recommend in all aspects. Our favourite Indian restaurant hands down.

I had the worst customer service ever. We went there to have drinks. They gave us one table, then one waiter told us that you must order to have drinks. We planned to order a starter, even before that the senior waiter insisted that “you must order” any mains. Even after that all the other waiters were staring at us like we have done something wrong. Such a terrible experience. Even the manager was so arrogant.

Service was sooo pathetic and all staffs were Soo rude including the manager. Won't recommend this place at all.

That was the rudest customer service that I have ever had. Along with my friends we happened to bump into restro for drinks and it was so impolite that they were so adamant that and said we "should" order any mains from the menu, the way the waiter said that was the rudest experience that I ever had in the United Kingdom. All the staffs including the manager was disrespectful. As an individual who works in the customer service field, that was unacceptable.

Warm welcome on arrival and seated right away. Modern decor, all spotlessly clean. Ordered drinks and perused menu. Excellent options and choices available. Food very good and served with a smile. Very helpful, courteous and attentive staff. A very enjoyable evening.

Went with family for a birthday meal. Never really gave it a thought about it being bank holiday. The food was lovely as usual, staff excellent. Shame some other customers don’t consider others as the conduct of a group of 6 was appalling. Totally tanked up, foul language and very inappropriate conversations. Shame as the rest of the evening was lovely, but may want to think twice about booking later on a bank holiday weekend.

I’m appalled so they forget my nan bread and my garlic rice?? Comes like warm for a start poppadoms broken in pieces, I want a full refund people don’t have £40 to spend whenever they want and when you look forward to something and turns out like the slop I’ve been served it’s shocking , also they said that they will deliver them out asap it’s been 45 minutes shocking !!!

Food tonight was good as always.. however service was appalling. Walked in and asked for a table for 3, advised that we had not booked... this was greeted with a look of disgust from the server as if it was 'appointment only'. He then went to check if we could be accommodated (there were 3/4 customers in and roughly 10 free tables). Once seated and food ordered, we were interrupted by a member of staff and advised to keep the noise down as there were families in. For one, we were not making any more noise than the other 3/4 tables..... secondly, as a group of friends we came for an enjoyable meal, not to sit down in silence twiddling our thumbs. Overall, food was good (as per usual) but the service was ridiculous, plenty of good/better venues where both food quality and service is guaranteed.

My favourite Indian by far, although the hariali was a bit spicier than usual, still very tasty 😋

Tried the restaurant for the first time on Sunday evening. It was very busy but the service was excellent. We had three courses from the a la carte menu. Each was exceptional. For me the bhuna chicken on puri was the star dish. That said we only left a small piece of naan! The desserts are ice cream based and are very good. Looking forward to another outstanding meal very soon.

Best Indian restaurant in the area

I never leave a review, however, this was an absolute disgrace. Firstly arrived 35 minutes early. Secondly the quality of the starts absolutely disgraceful, I called the restaurant and stated the popadoms were burnt, his response was we don’t burn popadoms. Thirdly, food was swapped over and to be honest lacked any flavour at ALL. Fourth, delivery driver asked what was wrong I told him everything and he stated everything. Food was horrible totally different to any other time we have went no flavour apart from a fishytaste what every dish had when was only chicken and paneer. No idea if have changed chef owners or ingredients but after tonight won't be visiting restaurant or take away again as it has all went in the bin total wast of 60 pound

Everything we have had from here has been freshly cooked and so tasty every meal we have had has been beautiful. We normally get a takeaway from here, or go for the happy hour between 5pm and 6pm its a lot cheaper for mostly the same food.

Lovely restaurant, clean , bright, friendly staff, even though it’s a busy restaurant we were swiftly served our food, starter then the main course, all of our food was delicious I had the chicken tikka madras with garlic rice and Nan bread couldn’t fault it although I have had better, would i return possibly but would like to try other places and yes I would recommend this restaurant.

The interior was pleasant, very much like a Goa'uld mothership. Looking at previous reviews I’d have expected this place to be excellent but that rather more points to personal preferences I suppose, although I can be objective in my reviews as I am quite the curry enthusiast and visitor of many, many establishments serving spiced delights. So then let me begin: The menu: Nothing different from a standard curry house here, same as what you’d expect anywhere. All the usual stuff to cater to the wants of the local population I guess. I’d love to see a place serving good, traditional home cooked Asian foods but I suppose business needs to make money and they cater to demand. The food: Nothing special, in fact mediocre in comparison to many other places. I get the impression this place sells itself as quite the exclusive dining arena and reading previous review, people seem to follow hype. Portion size, although in reality healthy and normal, was really quite small. I had a chicken dish and in comparison to most other places I’ve been to, the amount of chicken was sparse. I’ve received way more protein in a take away curry. The naan bread was light, yet delicious, rice was cooked well. Overall, for the price and its reputation, it doesn’t quite live up to what I’d expect, I’ve had better, more authentic and delicious dishes from a take away. Another thing I noticed. I understand it’s traditional in the north to consume alcohol and almost considered odd if you do not, however upon informing the server id like water with my meal, it appeared to confuse the young man. These places must make a lot of money from alcohol sales but hey I shouldn’t be made to feel bad because I’m not a poison enjoyer. Why can’t I get a nice cup of spiced black tea with my meal? I’ve only rated two stars because I can say with honesty that for the price and the amount of food I got, it really isn’t up to much. I’ve had far better for far cheaper in Shields and even from a take away. That said, the place was packed and seems very popular so they’re doing something right so check it out for yourself and, if like me you’re not impressed, go somewhere else next time 💪🏻

Asked for 2 lamb masla, and it tasted more like beef in both curries. Nan bread was tiny and about 15 mins late, curry was beautiful though

The food its self was nice as normal,but it was cold,we got a msg to say it left the shop and received it 30 mins later. 1st time it’s happened,it is Boxing Day I guess,but food still should be hot or at least warm
