Ashoka Indian Restaurant in County Durham

I feel ashoka is better than samrat in food quality, but samrat is cheaper.. Staff at ashoka are great,helpful and friendly.. Unfortunately we were sat at the table near the door so, with customers in and out, it was cold.. Defo recommend out of the 2 indian restaurant's in seaham..

I get currys in every city I go to around the world. It’s always a bit of an excitement and anxiousness about if you are going to get the best or just pay for disappointment. Well, I have a favourite curry restaurant in the city I live that is unbeatable, but I was sat eating deciding if this is my number one curry I’ve ever had. So delicious. Staff were awesome and the environment was nice. In Seaham? Want a beautiful meal? Just go here

Best Indian in a 50 mile radius. ‘Ooo Samrat is better…Moti Raj….Ocean Road. None come close - Ashoka is so superior it’s embarrassing.

Everything was great, the food and the staff were lovely,slight negatives,it's a little overpriced and a portion of chips is about 12 chips for over £3, definitely be back again

Ordered on Christmas eve when its really busy and arrived much quicker than antisipated. Food was fresh and delicious. Just as good as when you eat in the restaurant

Vegetarian options are poor. I ordered vegetarian biryani. It was a plate of rice with an insipid type curry with a tiny stalk of cauliflower and a piece of cabbage. The family had nice food but they all eat meat. It's not hard to cook tasty vegetarian food..this meal was dreadful. I could have sent it back but I'm always dubious of doing that. The naan bread was good fortunately! I won't hurry back

Rang umpteen times to check how long order would be. Cut off and promised call back but had to ring again. Not hapoy with service. Tried to say my order was delivered within am hour. Est delivery time 7.20 to 7.40 actual delivery time was 8.40.

Disappointing - small chicken bones in the Sri Lanka

Food is always perfect, I wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff are always very polite and helpful.

Nice and early, which I didn't mind at all, we've not had a curry for ages, so thought we'd treat ourselves and have one from here, sadly it was nothing to write home about, quite disappointing really compared to the last food we had from here plenty of chicken, and it looked nice, but lacked taste.

Bland food. 4 pieces of chicken tikka for a starter which cost £3.95. Chilli Nan bread which has never seen a chilli in its life was tasteless. Garlic pilau rice taste less. Waste of time complaining because it's takes another 45 mins for someone to deal with it!!! Ashoka is a joke!!!

I’ve been ordering from here for three glorious years, and let me tell you, this place is amazing. The food? Oh, it’s so delicious it should come with a warning label: “May cause spontaneous happy dances!” The staff? Oh so friendly and helpful! Here’s the best part: when I order takeaway, it arrives quicker than I can say “I’ll just have a salad”—and it’s always hotter than my last Tinder date! In three years, they’ve never messed up a single order. And yes, I once cheated on Ashoka with Harbour Tandoori, and let me tell you, it was a culinary disaster that left me in the corner, sobbing into a plate of sad curry. Never again! Ashoka, you had me at “Hello”, locked me in with your unbeatable bhuna and sealed the deal with your Shorisha. So here I am, declaring my love to the world: Ashoka, you are the pickle to my poppadom, the spice to my life, and the only place my heart (and stomach) will ever truly belong!

We order from Ashoka all the time and every single time the food is amazing and it’s usually always early! Really good food and great service!

For 5 years when I couldn't feed myself Ashoka fed me - I had to pay but it was worth every penny - at times I couldn't see to cook and at times I had no will to cook - thank you Ashoka x

Outstanding again. Nothing to fault at all. Eaten here numerous times and all been excellent. Friendly and helpful staff . Recommendations etc. Food is soooooo good. Our favourite place to eat. 100 %recommend.

Most definitely will not be returning here for a meal, great service but shocking food. Prawn dish was burnt to taste and the prawns were like rubber. The other dish was called a madras chicken curry but I didn't recognise it at all, just a bland watery dish. Gave the propierter some feedback but was just asked me if I had asked to change the dishes, no offer of a reduction of price.

Just had an excellent meal at Ashoka. Food was delicious, service was brilliant and a great venue. Clean and welcoming. Prices are good too. Lots of choice. Definitely be going back again. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Disappointing the bombay aloo was not very spicy, also chicken tikka main came with peppers and onions despite not being in the description I am allergic to peppers so couldn't eat it. I called the restaurant and waited a further 20mins for a new chicken tikka.

Ordered a chicken curry and a prawn curry. Chicken was nice but prawns were over cooked and chewy. Most the food was quite cold too. Delivery was quick and driver was very polite.

A very welcoming reception and even though some of our party were delayed, the staff seemed at ease with our need to delay ordering. Expertly taken orders and food arrived hot and was excellent. I had never eaten an Indian meal before but thus was excellent and I will definitely go again. Very much recommend.

Fantastic food every time and the service is best ever. I started with lamb's liver, now as a cook myself I know how hard it is to cook liver perfect, but to do it in a tandoor is magic. I would Defo recommend this place.

We've been a few times, and it's been amazing every time. Staff recommended some lovely food, and I was able to take home the leftovers. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is really well priced, especially if you order before 6.45 I'm vegetarian, and there's loads for me.

Been loads of times and never had a bad meal, however last night the service was really spot on. We were upstairs with only one other couple but never had to chase up a waiter. The lad was good craic and looked after us well, hence the good tip 👍

Been to Ashoka Indian Restaurant tonight and could not fault anything, food, service and the whole experience was a pleasure. We will definantly be returning and look forward to it with a smile and anticipation.

We went on a Monday night whilst passing through Seaham upon recommendation of our accommodation No. 16. Glad we took their advice - excellent food (we had madras and chicken achar) and helpful and very pleasant staff. The food was tasty and just hot enough for our taste. Would recommend and will return if ever in Seaham again.

We were staying with family in the area and ordered a takeaway online. Process was easy and the food delivered within the hour. Every single thing was delicious especially the Chicken Tikka Sri Lanka. We all agreed that next time we visit, we will eat in the restaurant. Well done guys, your food is so good.

Very disappointed to get home and realise that the restaurant had took no notice of my request to remove the shells from the prawns. Worse still instead of mushroom pilau, I got mushroom bhaji. Only 5 items in the order overall so not difficult to get 100% accurate.

Dined on a Tuesday night. Didn't book and although fairly busy got a table for two no problem. Food is second to none, service is excellent with staff that can't do enough for you. We had two of the chefs recommendations/ specials and they were delicious. 100% recommend in all aspects. Our favourite Indian restaurant hands down.

Service was sooo pathetic and all staffs were Soo rude including the manager. Won't recommend this place at all.

I had the worst customer service ever. We went there to have drinks. They gave us one table, then one waiter told us that you must order to have drinks. We planned to order a starter, even before that the senior waiter insisted that “you must order” any mains. Even after that all the other waiters were staring at us like we have done something wrong. Such a terrible experience. Even the manager was so arrogant.

That was the rudest customer service that I have ever had. Along with my friends we happened to bump into restro for drinks and it was so impolite that they were so adamant that and said we "should" order any mains from the menu, the way the waiter said that was the rudest experience that I ever had in the United Kingdom. All the staffs including the manager was disrespectful. As an individual who works in the customer service field, that was unacceptable.

Warm welcome on arrival and seated right away. Modern decor, all spotlessly clean. Ordered drinks and perused menu. Excellent options and choices available. Food very good and served with a smile. Very helpful, courteous and attentive staff. A very enjoyable evening.

Went with family for a birthday meal. Never really gave it a thought about it being bank holiday. The food was lovely as usual, staff excellent. Shame some other customers don’t consider others as the conduct of a group of 6 was appalling. Totally tanked up, foul language and very inappropriate conversations. Shame as the rest of the evening was lovely, but may want to think twice about booking later on a bank holiday weekend.

Lovely food however did feel a bit rushed with the service.

I’m appalled so they forget my nan bread and my garlic rice?? Comes like warm for a start poppadoms broken in pieces, I want a full refund people don’t have £40 to spend whenever they want and when you look forward to something and turns out like the slop I’ve been served it’s shocking , also they said that they will deliver them out asap it’s been 45 minutes shocking !!!
