Yet another of the stripped down, drinkers pubs. No frills, just an enticing selection of real ales and craft beers, lagers and ciders, served from taps set in the wall. There are a few tables outside in Sicilian Avenue and some window bar stools, but this is somewhere you stand and drink. Had a great conversation with the barman, who seemed to know everything about every drink they sold. As with all this type of pub, you can taste a small sample of any of the beers if you’re not sure about what to choose. Good location, not far from Holborn Station, the British Museum and the West End.

It’s some considerable time since we were last here so we thought we’d drop in for a drink when in the area with time to spare. I have to admit to coming away with a slight feeling of disappointment. The beer selection was not quite as interesting as I recall (three from Adnams?); there was not much atmosphere (it was early & pretty empty); and slightly disinterested service. Not sure that we’ll be back.

There's a good selection of beers - both cask and keg beers, often from small and rare brewers. The food choice is limited - mainly pizzas and currywurst. The pizzas are fresh and substantial - an ideal accompaniment to the beer.

Ok, ok, I must confess I’m a bit of a beer snob. I visited because people recommend it for their good selection of craft beer. I’ve visited a couple of times now and both visits I’ve been super underwhelmed by the beer on offer. Some places who specialise in craft beer it’s like being a kid in a sweet shop, but here I had trouble choosing a beer I was excited about. Sorry. You usually get super friendly staff in craft beer bars but here they seem quite cold and like they don’t really care that you’re there. The place is quite sparse and dingy. Things like this don’t usually bother me but it just adds to the cold feeling in the place. The place is always busy but I get the feeling that most are there from nearby offices and don’t actually really care about the types of beer on offer. I feel really bad for giving such a negative review as at least it is somewhere that serves good beer, but there are places with a warmer welcome and a better selection.

Not a beer lover. Went in for lunch. There was only one member of staff at the counter. Seating is nearly all bar stools/bar chairs, no regular seating. The menu offered was all pizzas and pastas, Italian. Found that a bit strange - no local food. Our pizzza was good but took a long time to materialise. Did not go back there again in the week we spent in the neighbourhood.. Okay for drinks and snacks but not for regular meals.

Seguramente. Pero yo no la recomiendo. Good place for a beer with a fine choice of cask and keg ales. Its a bit plain in the bar, although there is some outside space and downstairs the toilets are rather Spartan. Nice location near Holborn tube station, but on the smart Sicilian Avenue, backing on to a nice square. Half a dozen prints of paintings by Norman Cornish, perhaps the best of the 'pitmen painters' add interest. One even has a whippet on!

If you like beer then that place does just that with little other distractions. The place feels like a bus station bar from the 60s or an old butchers. Half tiled walls, dim lighting and a muggy smell of ale.It always seems busy so get to the bar see what ales they have on the board, ask to try a few and then get a pint and find a surface to rest against. It's not a comfy bar for an intimate conversion or to spend the afternoon in but as a quick watering hole or a place to gather for some post work drinks it's perfect.Populated almost exclusively by 20-30 year olds in dark clothing it's very easy to blend in and just become part of the huge crowd in there.

Rather better known for their 'Tap' series of pubs based at railway stations, The Holborn Whippet has some of the same concepts - particularly the wide range of cask and keg 'craft' beers - but is in a genre (like their Pelt Trader and Resting Hare) that has a greater emphasis on food than those tend to.The Holborn Whippet does hot bar snacks and pizzas. The pizza tried on this visit, a Diavola, was very good. One thing this little 'chain' is not famed for is it toilets - try the Euston Tap (West) on a busy night ;-). The Holborn Whippet is no exception, with rather grim toilet facilities down in the basement, with the added excitement of feeling you are almost walking through the kitchen to use them.

The pub upstairs is lovely, great choice of beers, reasonably priced, friendly staff and good pizza's. What lets it down hugely are the toilets, they are disgusting with a constant layer of wet on the floor every time I have entered them, tiles are missing and random hoses are used for the flush. The toilets are in desperate need of a refurbishment. The upstairs is lovely, it's almost like they forgot about them or ran out of money when fixing the place up (or maybe they don't consider it important to have okay toilets). It's really not a great experience using the loo here.If this was sorted I would probably be giving a 4 or maybe even 5 bubble review now. Please sort out the male toilets Holborn Whippet.

Went last night in a small group. Big choice of beer, but something was wrong! Despite asking for a variety of different ales, they all seemed off (all seasoned drinkers!). It didn't help with one barman (with plenty of facial jewellery) being very rude when asked which one was which, because we couldn't tell! I won't go into all the detail, but he clearly was having an off night, like the beer! Don't work behind a bar if you can't be civil! The place itself is average for central London, but a shade tatty, with quite a few holes in the wall, and bits falling off. Roaring trade with masses of tourists and painfully trendy people. We won't rush back. Good location for the tube, though.

The interior is nondescript. Easy to confuse the keg craft with the cask beers. The beers are expensive IMO even for London. Very lively and busy though, mostly with office workers it seemed, at 6.30 on a Tuesday, so I guess they can justify it. I prefer the Swan just up the road. We popped in here, after 2 hrs, touring the British Museum. "She WHO MUST be obeyed," went to order our pints, while I commandeered an outside table. Only pedestrian traffic, where we were sitting, great for chilling and people watching. As usual, at all British pubs, you must go place your order at the bar, so don't get a table and sit waiting for someone to serve you. This said, the Bartender, was very personable, serving Her Ladyship quickly, saying he would be ready for a pint also, if he'd spent the last two hours, at the British Museum. We passed on food, as we were headed back to Premier Inn, Kings Crossing and then over to Premier Inn, St Pancras, for our 50% dinner and 2 for 1 drinks. Definitely, a great place for a break if you're on foot, between your hotel, and the sites.

Came here based on their listing in London Craft Beer guide. Beer selection is ok (there is better for cheaper in the area) but the guide said to eat their grilled meat. No grilled meat on the menu! All they had to offer was pizza. As I was starving I ordered a beer and their acclaimed chorizo and chicken pizza which advertised fresh basil. Sounded like this might be ok with the refreshing basil - but there was none! Average pizza and at £18 for a small pizza and a pint it's a rip off - even for central London. We landed here after a saunter around the British Museum. Our son knows this place from his time at college nearby. It was a Saturday afternoon, so we could easily get a table. I would guess that on a weekday or weeknight this place is jammed. Its primarily a pub that does also serve food although we didn't eat. Wide range of beers and the barman and my son spent a while finding something that would appeal to me, and the result was a very tasty Kernel. Very pricey too at £6:50 a pint, but perhaps I'm showing my age...certainly a lot more expensive than petrol, not that I am suggesting drinking that - just a comparison. The toilets are down a flight of very narrow and very steep stairs, so be warned...Not sure this place has its own wifi.Pub is in a great location, just up from Holborn tube and not too far from the museum, I'll certainly come here again.

As many pubs are going these days, this is perfect if you want a craft beer or real ale, with a decent range, drawn up on the wall (so I assume subject to regular alterations) and being pure from unmarked taps. I myself am not a big beer drinker, so stuck to the only lager available. It was good for a pint, but a bit heavy after 2.The atmosphere is a bit lacking and the building itself is short of character. But if you want to meet a mate for a drink it's as good as any in the area.

We only had time to sample a couple of halves (Adnams lighthouse 3.7% and Redemption rock the kazbek 4.5%) both ok and reasonably priced at £3.50ish for a full pint. I imagine it gets busy in the evening and totally bunged at weekends with the after work crowd creating a lively atmosphere. If you like you beers too, there's plenty to work your way through and the classic leading craftbeer producers are well represented. You'll be waiting to get served for a long time because the pub is tiny but you'll be able to get whatever beer you like.

I found it hard to decide whether I liked the Holborn Whippet or not. On the good side, I found that the staff were friendly are very knowledgeable about the beers on offer. I also liked the beer that I tried from the hand pumps. On the not so good side, I wasn't very impressed with the decor and the fixtures and fittings. To me, the place feels too international and not sufficiently 'London' or 'British' for my tastes. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but if you want a traditional British pub, then you may be a tad disappointed. I noticed that the menu contained Mexican, German and American items, with little that appeared to be British.I thought that the beers available also veered towards the North American or international market. If I found this bar in somewhere like San Francisco I'd think it was great, but for some reason, and it could well be me, it just didn't strike the right note at all for me. That doesn't mean I thought it was bad, it just maybe wasn't what I was looking for. It certainly wasn't what I expected it to be.

I was really impressed with the beer selection. I wanted to try beer from around the UK that I'd never heard of and couldn't find in the US. The bar tender let me try a few beers before selecting which is always great. Unfortunately this place was dead when i came in so I couldn't get a sense for the culture/clientele.

Gem of a place to try different ales although a few pints of any of the higher % ales and be careful! The large pizza's are brilliant and quite unexpected in a pub like this. Only downside is that it can get very busy on a Thursday/Friday evening.

This is a great little bar ins Sicilian Avenue, Holborn just a few minutes from Holborn Tube and a short walk from Tottenham Court Road. The bar serves some great beers from the cask and hosts a number of guest beers every week. Well kept and served as they should be by knowledgable staffA little gem for a real ale drinker and it does food to that people seemed to be enjoying although we never had any.

Great pub in a very good location just off Oxford Street. They offer a wide variety of craft beer and the staff are very knowledgeable. Food is pretty simple but it's good value for money. Its usually quite in the afternoon, so i recommend it for a break during your shopping day in the area.

I've been to the Holborn Whippet a few times now. Great selection of ales, served properly and at very reasonable prices for central London. Staff who are very knowledgable and passionate about what they sell, with very quick service. It does get a little crowded at times but that's to be expected as it's small and a popular place. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Visited here for a midweek lunch. The staff were polite and efficient, there was a good range of beer and for central London the food was reasonably priced. I had the bratwurst with fries, the portion was a good size though I thought that the bratwurst was very salty. Overall the place was clean and tidy including the toilets. The location is OK though there is a lot of traffic outside.

I visit the Whippet quite often when I'm in London....which is quite often. I'm a keen drinker of real ale and the Whippet usually offers a great range to choose from. Never disappointed so far. I believe food is also available but I have never eaten here. If you like your ale you must visit.

Visited The Whippet on a Saturday evening, with my wife, after attending a premier league match. We lost 2-1 ! We were planning on having an evening meal somewhere but thought we would have a couple of quality cask beers first. As we entered there was a gang of men tucking in to some huge pizzas, chips, onion rings etc. So thought we would order a large pepperoni pizza to go with their fine selection of cask beers. The food arrived in about 10 minutes, just as we ordered our second pint! The pizza was excellent and saved us a couple of hours in a restaurant, when we had a bit of room left for another decent ale! The beers and service were excellent, along with the service from the bar staff. Will definitely be heading there again on our next visit to a London away game. Hopefully celebrating a win next time!

This is a slightly quirky little place on a corner site in Sicilian Avenue just west of the junction of Southampton Row and Theobald's Road. It's two small rooms either side of a central bar stocking a good range of draught beers from smaller craft suppliers all on tap listed on a blackboard. Although the German Hefeweizen I ordered was unavailable I found a perfectly acceptable substitute. For craft beers the prices were eminently reasonable around the £3-5 mark for a pint. The menu comprises mainly pizzas and burgers. I opted for a beef and cheese with fries for £9.50. No complaints about the burger; the crispy fries all sprinkled with herbs were excellent. I was a bit surprised it didn't come with a knife and fork, which I had to leave my windowkedge stool to find in the next room. But overall a useful and characterful pit stop.

This is a nice little pub in the heart of central London. Not too hard to find seating (especially if you are willing to sit outside). Reasonably priced pints - cheaper than some of the other pubs round this way. A good selection of craft beers and ciders as well as spirits.

Whilst the menu is limited, it shouldn't be overlooked. The pizzas are thin crust and excellent and the burgers very juicy. Good for both Lunch and Dinner - they serve until 9:30pm.The real ale beers change regularly (both cask and keg) and there's plenty of choice. The barrels are well kept and I've not had a bad pint in there. Can get busy on a week night and on Fridays it's not unusual for it to spill out onto the street.I've not noticed disabled facilities and the staircase to the toilets is very narrow and not very accessible if you have mobility problems.

We went here early on a Saturday evening, looking forward to the range of beers as advertised on the website. It is a very good pub for craft beer enthusiasts, but the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc left a lot to be desired. My main complaint about our visit, and why I haven't scored it higher, is the fact that we had to wait well over half an hour for the food that we ordered, even though we couldn't see many people eating so it did not look like the kitchen could be busy. If our expectation about the waiting time had been set when we ordered then that would have been much better. However, we were given no indication that there would be a wait, so began to think that we had been forgotten. When the food finally arrived it was very good - the pepperoni pizza was beautifully thin with a good bit of spice to it.

Went here after the British Museum on a windy afternoon slightly apprehensive after reading the mixed reviews. They had 17 beers on tap including some more fringe brews from around the UK that were a real treat after many weeks of drinking uninspired english beers. The prices were fair, and even cheaper than what I was used to in London. Their food was also surprisingly good, in particular their fries. I will definitely make a point of coming back here next time I am in London and I suggest all my fellow beer drinkers do the same!

The Holborn Whippet has a nice selection of beers, including cask ales. The outdoor seating on a little paved lane is lovely. Had planned on having lunch there but unfortunately we weren't able to try the food as the kitchen wasn't open.

The beers are great at this place, shame about the service. We went to order some pizza about 8pm and were told that we'd have to wait 20 mins because they'd just taken a big order. No problem, but the staff wouldn't take our order to let us wait, (in fact the barmaid was quite rude about it) they asked us to come back in 20 mins again. After 30 mins we went back to be told that there were no more pizzas. I understand that things get busy etc, but why the staff can't take an order and put us in line is pretty baffling. Shame, because the beer is good.

We dropped into Cafe Marche late wednesday night expecting a quiet meal and a bus home. From the moment we entered we where made welcome and given excellant service.the food was super not only tasty but authentic and good portions. The accompanying bread was lovely and the wines a bit pricey but each was a good choice in its type.We chose the Guigal in half bottles discounted because the full bottles where not drinking well. Now thats service and knowledge, thoroughly above average and great if you take into account the rather slick and syncopated jazz duo who stroll through the evening with you. Im hard hearted but i was charmed by this place.

Title says it all! This small but perfectly formed bar/pub offers a vast selection of craft beers, about which the staff are highly knowledgeable. The menu is limited but that's a plus for me as it usually means what they do, they do well. This was definitely the case at the Holborn Whippet. I enjoyed the chicken burger; succulent, tasty and enhanced by the sweetness of the brioche bun within which it was served. My husband opted for the Bloomsbury burger and was far from disappointed. Being a huge fan of such food he knows a good burger from a bad one. The meat was excellent quality, cooked to perfection, and served with a homemade relish that was tangy with a subtle kick. Both of us agreed the fries were among the best we'd ever had. Be warned they're salty - but that's how we like ours!We didn't frequent the toilets so can't comment on these. Sounds as though that may have been a blessing! As previous reviewers have stated, the location of the Whippet adds to its appeal. The ornate, pedestrianised avenue is beautiful and we found it to be a mini oasis of calm in an otherwise bustling area of the city. We'll return!

I read about this pub in a top 10 of London Craft beer venues and so decided to give it a go. Great selection of craft and real ale from some unfamiliar but worthy breweries. I went for a pint of American IPA at £5 a pint though there were different beers at a variety of prices available. I was there at a weekday lunchtime and it was quiet. I can't comment on the food or the toilets as I tried neither.EEnjoyable venue and I will go there again if in the area.
