Love this place, love the vibe - very bright and airy. Great selection of cakes and a comprehensive menu. Definitely a hidden gem of Nottingham.

What a lovely cafe! I can't explain how cute this cafe is and all the people who work there are so beautiful and unique in their own ways. The personality shone through evidently in the hot chocolate!

Mediocrity rarely persuades the heart to share its contents. This principle holds firm today, too, as I try (humbly) to describe with languages limits my experience at Hockley Kitchen. First of all the team. Gentle giants in aprons. Second of all the fantastic and reasonably priced confectionary (today I got a mozzarella and pesto panini like no other). And the drinks...oh the drinks...lattes, hot chocolates, americanos, you name it - these scholars have covered the whole nine yards and then go the extra mile; with personable conversation, a calm demeanour, a telling smile... So, forgive me of my prosaic gusto and do me only one favour. See for yourself what the heart cannot describe at Hockley Kitchen.

The manager closes every day well before 4pm and refuses to serve. I pointed out that the sign said open and the opening hours were until 4pm .. the manager thinks she is doing paying customers a favour if I was the owner I would seriously look into what calibre of people he let's run his business as he might not have one in future with type of service and attitude

Friendly service and tasty reasonably priced food

Located in a great spot in the middle of Hockley, it's great for a quick bite and watching the world go by, there's a reasonable selection of breakfast and brunch options but nothing particularly enticing or interesting to make for a memorable visit

My wife and I went in for a coffee and something to eat my wife has food intolerances the staff were brilliant they went all out to find something she could have well done 5 star's all the way we will be back 👍

We ordered a few different things: pancakes, halloumi breakfast, veg breakfast and salmon bagel. All came roughly at same time, decent portions and taste. Drinks were good too. Only issue was lack of toilet, there was only a toilet for staff available which is odd when you're running a cafe, selling drinks. Odd

Frequently visit here, mainly on the weekends, and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly and welcoming, great coffee, and the food is absolutely delicious. Whether you’re looking for a cozy atmosphere or feeling indecisive on where to go, this is the spot. It’s definitely a go-to destination. We will always return to this cafe, it does really yummy breakfasts and drinks that are really good sizes for the price. It’s probably more expensive than you’d pay at somewhere like spoons, but it’s definitely more fresh, and in a nicer environment. The place is decorated in a lovely airy way, with plenty of plants and cute art (local artists maybe?), so there were things to look at while we waited. The staff were all young but seemed to work well as a team and all dipped in to help in each order. On this visit we got an americano, a passionfruit smoothie, a veggie breakfast, and a maple bacon pancake stack. I couldn’t finish my pancake stack as it was so big, but every bite I had was super tasty and had some really juicy sweet fruit with it too, plus the smoothie was made fresh while we sat enjoying the peace before the morning rush. My partner really enjoyed his veggie breakfast, and said the coffee was good quality too. The additionals (sugar, sauce, napkins) were all self serve and easy to reach. The only negative was that the food did take a while to come out, but it’s only a partial negative as when it did come we knew it was hot and fresh. I say go in and expect to wait a little, but be ready to really enjoy it when you get it!

Great little cafe. Food is excellent staff are welcoming and friendly. Only downside is the size not much seating area. Luckily we came before the rush.

Genuinely love the food in here, and find myself at least once a week popping in, the staff are extremely polite and always notify of any delays on food, my only criticisms, please stop using the window as a short cut, someone is going to trip with a hot drink and cause an injury, please add a baby changing station, and please start wearing hair nets as I found a hair in my food today, you all do a great job and I think with a few little tweaks this place will become one of nottinghams little gems.

Good atmosphere, good food! The service was nice but with a few hiccups. The pancakes we ordered were forgotten, a coffee order came wrong and an order of eggs had to be asked to be cooked again.

Appalling service. Cold food after a very long wait. Rude staff who obviously can't be bothered to be there. What a disappointment and a real shame as it used to be lovely. Couldn't possibly recommend this place anymore and certainly won't be back again

Ordered a full English breakfast. Waited 25 minutes, which wasn't a problem as I knew it should come hot and fresh. Cold sausages, cold beans, cold mushrooms, not just luke warm but cold. Took it back and waited for a replacement, and half of that breakfast was also cold. I couldn't be bothered to send ut back again as my wife had already finished her food. Would not recommend.

Overall great cafe for brunch, breakfast & lunch in the heart of Hockley. I ordered the halloumi breakfast- it was okay, but a bit cool, didn’t seem super fresh. The pancakes, however, are delicious- so thick and fluffy, and a decent portion size! Prices are reasonable, too.

On a recent trip to Nottingham I popped in here for the veggie breakfast, it was so good I went the next morning for another. Only Marking the atmosphere down because it was early morning and none of the customers were at their brightest.

Took my partner for breakfast here yesterday, our first time and I was actually just really disappointed. Firstly, opening time of 0900 on a Saturday was not entirely true as we arrived at 0905 no lights were on and the closed sign was up. About 0910 we went in. We were not greeted by any staff when we walked in and the lights remained off until around 0925. The room was quite dull and there was no atmosphere for a sunny Saturday morning in a bustling city. Weren’t sure if we had to go up to the counter to order or if table service was provided but we followed suit of another family who placed their order at the counter. Standing at the counter, no staff member even acknowledged I was there, not even a hello until they had finished their task. I ordered two coffees and two full English breakfasts. The food arrived way before our drinks and the lady who served the food just placed the food on the table and walked away. We had one napkin between us and we weren’t asked if we wanted/needed any condiments or extra napkins etc, nor were we informed of where they were should we want to help ourselves. There was no generic check in ‘is everything okay with your food?’ And I just didn’t think we were able to get any sense of personality from Hockley Kitchen or its staff. The breakfast itself was nice and my coffee, once it arrived, was good. I wish the staff had spent less time on their latte art and more time on their serving manner.

Food was ok in here but the service was a bit slow and the girl behind the counter stared at me like she wanted me to to away when I initially went up to take my order. I think she was new and didn't know how to use the till, but didn't make me feel entirely welcome.

Fab little cafe, really friendly and very well priced for food. A wonderful cup of Earl Grey also.

Lovely food, quick service but quite a small cafe so didn’t feel like we had a lot of room and it felt like the tables next to us could head every word of our conversation. Other than that I can’t fault Hockey Kitchen and would happily return!

Terrible service. Waited for 45 minutes for a soup, which turned up cold and had to be returned, cafe wasn’t even full, bad attitude from the staff who seemed annoyed at us when we chased up how long the food would be. Shame, as this used to be a lovely cafe, will avoid in future.

Absolutely fabulous sausage sandwich made by the lovely Justyna. Great location, really friendly staff, fast service, relaxing environment, a little oasis in the mayhem that is Christmas shopping in Nottingham. Highly recommend.

Sunday morning I popped in for a drink and managed to get a table surprised at how busy it was. It's very Hockley. Very mixed group of customers.

Very nice atmosphere, everyone working there was lovely! I ordered a biscoff milkshake and a Brie, Bacon and Cranberry toastie, both were great. In total, I paid about £10, which isn’t too pricey and definitely a good price for the quality :)

Wait time may have been a bit long, however, it really was worth the wait, amazing food and super milkshakes!

After searching for several breakfast places in Notthingham, I decided to bring my friends at Hockleys. We ordered ... 1. Pancakes with Nutella > taste wise it is 8.5/10. It was very filling. 2. Scrambled eggs on toast and an extra bacon. The breads were covered in butter and the portions were very filling as well. 9/10. 3. Cappuccino > 10/10. Must try. 4. Strawberry 🍓 delight smoothie > 7.5/10. I will recommend everyone to visit this place as it's extremely budget friendly.

Hadn't been here for years but they have always done good breakfast, unfortunately this isn't the case anymore. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which on the board inside stated 5.25 yet was charged 5.40, I mention the the prices was different on the board which the server queried, the response from the lady I imagened to be in charge saying the pos is out of date but it's correct outside. I'm sorry but that's not how it works, if you advertise a price that's the price that should be charge, but I Said nothing and then waited for my order. The woman who made the food (lady with a Scottish accent and white shirt) seemed to be more bothered about talkin to the other staff than anything else. The woman also had food prep gloves on which was nice to see but absolutely pointless when the woman was also using her mobile with Said gloves on, cross contaminating the food. After seeing all this I was just ready to have a my breakfast and get on with my day but I saw that nothing was being cooked fresh and was just being heated up on a panini grill which made the whole sandwich inedible, all for the high price of £5.40! For the price paid this is honestly discussing. I am all up for supporting local businesses but this is one that I will no longer support as the staff and food quality need to massively improve to meet basic standards. Side note - The lady that did serve me was lovely and this review is nothing to do with her

Very tasty food and good service from the staff. I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon on a gluten free bagel- generous portions, well presented and very moreish. There was a good selection of vegan and gluten free meal choices. I sat inside but there is also outdoor seating a available.

A bit of a mixed experience. We found a table no problem, ordered our food but got no cutlery. After being promised some we waited for 5-10 minutes with the food getting cold and eventually just had to get it myself.. my friend ordered a tea and a breakfast and the tea arrived but the breakfast did not. Naturally we just thought it would come later but after another 10 minutes I went in and asked and the staff was fairly confused.. eventually a breakfast was found but had mushrooms and my friend specifically said no mushrooms.. I would probably give it another go if I'm in the area 🤔

I came in this morning and I ordered some pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, and my friend ordered eggs on toast, both of which were fantastic, and the coffee was great too! Would 100% go again!

came here for brunch with friends, between us we tried both the vegetarian and vegan breakfasts, as well as hot and iced lattes. was very impressed by the range of dishes offered and the way that the vegan and veggie dishes didn’t just seem like an afterthought. very reasonably priced - full English with a coffee for £11 a head and not lacking on quality or portion size either!! coffee was great too, and we were told that it’s from a local roaster too which is great. Staff were very polite and friendly and it’s just so nice to find another cosy spot that is reasonably priced and caters to everyone!!!

25 minutes after ordering our food arrived (drinks came 5 minutes after that which is a first). In this time, a couple who ordered drinks after us sat down, drinks arrived and they supped up and left. We understand food can take a bit longer gluten free as surfaces need to be cleaned but didn't expect drinks to take so long. I ordered the full English at 1:45, the staff member at the till said he was unsure if they are still serving breakfast and needs to check (menu says till 2:30pm). The response from another staff member was yes but only till 2. Heard a couple of other customers disappointed by this also and end up walking out after we sat down. Full English was nice but beans were cold, but the gluten free ham and cheese seemed to be thrown on the plate. When I asked for a fork so my wife could reassemble it I was scoffed at. It was fairly busy when we visited, staff cleared the plates but they didn't wipe the tables down and seemed to spend more time behind the counter (some just chatting whilst others ran around). Overall I suggested this place to my wife due to the gluten free options but the care front of house was minimal. I feel some of the team cracked under pressure a bit whilst being unsupported by others. I'd visit again but worry about cross contamination.

Food is good unfortunately this place always seems to be uncomftable busy. Wouldn't recommend if you struggle with anxiety but the food is tasty! Also in a very queer friendly area.

really lovely, great ambience and tasty food, went for the halloumi, avocado and sun-dried tomato bagel and a black coffee, came to £9.15 in total, and had a little salad on the side.

Went in with my mates for a quick drink and something to eat today, when i went to pay my card kept getting declined and so went to sit back down. Five minutes later when sitting with my mates the waitress brought over a panini and a drink on the house. The staff were great and the food and drink was really nice

Went with my sister, they are happy to take and replace anything you don't like on the menu section. I didn't like mushrooms and asked if they can put hummus instead. They said yes. Fantastic service! as a celiac they made sure everything was handled separately. The food was delicious too highly recommend it if you are in Nottingham.

Absolutely loved it! We were so happy to find somewhere that actually does gluten free food, and not just the basics that everywhere does. Special bread, gluten free sausages. The staff were very friendly and very knowledgeable about coeliac and dietary needs. The venue is small and was fairly busy on our visit, but I don't blame them, absolutely great food! Shame there's not many of these places in Birmingham!

The location is good but I wasn't impressed with my panini - the bread seemed dry and a key ingredient I'd requested wasn't available. The lettuce in the salad had brown tinges and wasn't very fresh. I was pretty disappointed with the dish I had.

Great cafe, the Biscoff milkshake was amazing! I had a panini with halloumi & roast veg and my daughter had a chicken & bacon panini. Both were freshly made and so good. It's quite busy and very popular place. Polite friendly staff, I'd recommend it

Breakfast was superb, tasted great and was really good value. Had a smoothie to accompany it and that was also really good. I believe you can have them to go. Atmosphere was very laid back and the interior was cool too. Really liked the music which was being played. Plenty of outdoor seating available. Perfect way to start the day before watching the cricket.

I wanted to have a egg with my lunch, however they wasn't able to provide this dispite this being on the menu; saying that part of the kitchen was closed. No reduced menu was provided at the time which would have made ordering alot easier. Our order was the only one being prepared at the time, there were 4 staff members working and the food took some time to come out. When the Baguette did finally arrive, the underneath of the bread was black as it was burnt. The bread was hard to chew. The filings were nice however. I had to go back inside, as I was seated out side, to get a knife to remove the black from the bread. I had explained that this was what I was doing to a member of staff and she seemed to shrug it off, no apology or replacement offered.

Great sandwiches, meals and snacks, always a friendly welcome. Now, following a post-pandemic do-over, it's less cosy, still tasty, but with a relatively limited menu. Still worth a visit, the coffee's good and whiling away a half hour in the sun sunshine still enjoyable.
