Didn’t deliver full order, refund given immediately but not the point. I went without lunch so my son and partner had theirs. Won’t use again. Food was nice apparently.

Salt beef bagel and club sandwich were nice but the bacon sandwich was a joke. Two tiny, anaemic bits of bacon in huge chunky slices of bread with a dot of ketchup. Hard to find the bacon in the sandwich!! Very disappointing, it’s not difficult to do a good bacon sandwich!

My wife and I popped in to the Hippo Café on Christmas eve for a bit of brunch. I ordered a sausage and egg sandwich and my wife had a panini. The food was excellent, as was the service, and we had a very enjoyable time. We have visited a number of times over the past few years, and have always been very satisfied with the food and portion size. Thank you.

We have ordered from here a few times in the past and it’s always been of a high standard but unfortunately today wasn’t as good. The bread wasn’t the usual doorstep bread, there was only 2 small bits of bacon in the sandwich and not much chicken or lettuce in the other sandwich. It’s a shame as we usually love the food here.

Usually the sandwiches from here are very very good, but unfortunately this was not the case today. The sandwiches usually come on nice thick cut bread with a good amount of filling, but on this instance the bread was a bit stale, and overall it was v disappointing.

Great bagel and milkshake, milkshake had spilled in delivery but not their fault!

The websit had defaulted to the wrong address (my Mums instead of mine). I spoke to the driver, explained, apologised and gave him my postcode (5 min drive away) and he took all info but never turned up. My husband has gone to try and find our food!

Great Sandwiches and good coffee

Lovely little sandwich shop in the heart of the Broadway. I only popped in for a coffee but looked in envy at another munching through a huge stack of American style with fruit, maple syrup and yogurt. Have to pay them a better visit to endulge the taste buds. Oh and the coffee was lovely.

We were in Leigh shopping and decided to stop for a bite of lunch. Oh, we were so pleased that we came into this café. The service was very speedy and the food was amazing! We will definitely come back to try more of their dishes!

Food was delicious good value for money

Twice I have been here with my wife. Twice we've asked to eat in, placed our order, and waited at our table. Twice we have been brought our takeaway bag... At least last time they let us eat it at our table with the disposable cutlery. This time we were chased out and told it's a different price to eat in. A price I would happily have paid if the food was brought to me on a plate. You made a mistake, but you make your customers pay for it? Once was bad enough, but twice has earned you this review. I will be telling others about this. Edit: Arrived home to find my drink was missing from the order. I phoned in and waited 15 minutes to be told they needed the card I paid with in order to refund me. I used mobile tap and pay so I don't have access to the card number as Google uses a virtual proxy card. I can only be refunded if I go back there... I have never been treated so poorly at any establishment in this country, let alone in this town. I have no idea how this business stays afloat if they treat all their customers like dirt.

Food was really good, toastie arrived warm with fresh salad and plenty of coleslaw on the side. Only thing was that the wrong drink was sent and I was looking forward to it haha. But overall good and will order again.

Have visited Hippo's before food good and staff pleasant, sadly today had disappointing expirience. My cup of tea was served in chipped cup asked to be changed noticed tea was just poured into another cup! When my sandwich was served noticed big chip on plate asked to be changed . When eventually came back sandwich was cold. Mentioned to staff as we paid she apologized said they were short staffed and busy. Was not busy when we placed our order.

Impeccable food, service from staff is amazing! Serves breakfast until 3pm. Big selection of food and drink for all including vegetarians. Couldn’t recommend this place more! Amazing!

What a lovely find on a Sunday afternoon. Great prices had all day breakfast £11 good quality bacon and sausages. £3 latte. Very clean and staff so lovely and welcoming. Highly recommended

The food from Hippos was lovely, what we actually received, but the delivery was awful, our three milkshakes were totally crushed and spilt, the food however was very good, I expect the milkshakes would have been too x

The senior staff/managers here are incredibly rude. We ordered a pot of tea for two and we were given the wrong sized cups. There was not enough tea in the pot to fill one cup. When I questioned this and asked for more tea I was told "I cannot control the way you pour tea" how would I know the cups were wrong until pouring! I asked to not be charged as we were not given the right order. I was told I had to pay as I had been given the pot of tea. The manager was so incredibly rude and had no customer service skills. Really awful service spend your money in other places in the broadway!

Shocking filthy toilet accessed through an unprofessional kitchen This is the second time I've eaten at Hippo Cafe. But the first time that I've used the toilet. I wish I hadnt... It was a hell of a shock. The food was good, and the staff were ok... However the toilet was disgraceful. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to a filthy outside toilet. which resembled a Workman's outside lav of the 70s. What's worse is it was filthy dirty, not only the floor, but also, the walls. There was a dirty rusty bin, the door was a l broken with holes big enough to Look through. I didn’t want to touch anything which is a real worry when you consider that the staff that are serving your food are using this toilet which is filthy dirty, The kitchen did not look professional more like a greasy spoon. I came back to my table literally with my mouth open with shock. What you see in the walk to the toilet out the back is totally mismatched to the image you see at the front. If I had not used the toilet, I most definitely would’ve gone back again, but after going out the back there is no way I’d ever eat here again.

After being seated and given menus, at a table that hadn't been cleared, we waited so long for someone to come and take our order (and clean the table) that we gave up and left . I don't think anyone even noticed. We passed by again a little while later and our menus were still on the table along with all the debris from the previous customers.

After unsuccessfully trying other places nearby for something vegan to eat Hippo's cafe welcomed us and provided us with a great Vegan Breakfast roll and Avo/beans on toast and hot drinks. Very nice food and all the staff were really lovely.

I have visited on a few occasions when I visit my dad in Leigh and I know my nephew also loves it here and always asks to come. Really lovely choice of food, very filling and lovely staff. A great place to eat while in Leigh.

Great breakfast. Open before 9.00 am unlike many LOS cafes. Plenty to choose from on the menu, the food was tasty, thoughtfully presented and excellent VFM. Portions are generous and big enough to share if you are not that hungry. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Stopped for a sandwich and drink, cafe was quite busy and I felt girls were brisk, when speaking to customers We ordered drinks, a sandwich and toasted tea cake, milkshake was ordered with no cream but came with cream, I mentioned this and they did offer to change it, but I didn’t want it wasted so had the milkshake with cream, toasted tea cake came already buttered, which we found odd as they didn’t ask, how much butter was required My daughter who has mild disabilities needed the toilet, I asked where it was and was told where to go, then another worker said you can’t use the toilet, it’s out of action, which was a surprise to the other worker, I asked how long it would be out of action and was told 20 minutes, no other explanation was given, they didn’t say it was broken or being cleaned, so given the cafe was open, there should be toilet facilities available. I had to take my daughter to the church toilet (few minutes walk away) and then return to our drinks / food - I don’t feel this is acceptable, had the staff been more friendly, it may not have seemed so bad, I must add, the girl who took our original order, was friendly

Went here "off the cuff" on father's day after being let down badly by the Estuary, a few doors away. My daughter and I had a No.3 Breakfast which was very fast, great value and beautifully cooked. I'll be back for more.

It was such a great café to stop at and enjoy a very tasty, fluffy dessert in the sun. I sat outside and enjoyed the world passing by, but seeing the sea in the distance also - so, so beautiful. The staff were ever so lovely, and attentive at all times. I was well looked after and no request was too big, despite being so busy. As for the pancakes... well, I cannot praise them enough, they were just perfect, fully, plenty, sweet, and with great topics. I would definitely recommend.

Great service with cappuccino + huge slice of delicious Victoria sponge for £5 after 2pm. Who could ask for more.

Been there loads of times for food always good

Been here a couple times and all okay but this time the floors are dirty as are the tables, waitress was very rude when seating us. Didn’t take our order but was taking other people’s that arrived after us (had to ask) didn’t have a can of drink so she told us to go to the fridge and pick out what we wanted. Food was quick but awful, soggy. waitress just standing around talking

Great breakfast, which was delicious and good value. The coffee was a little underwhelming, and the cake was dry. The toast though! Great toast. Service was friendly and fast.

Very smart cafe, good hot coffee

Prices are more reasonable than others on the high street and without the compromise. More selection, only thing I would change is to ask them not to cut my egg and bacon sandwich into 4 triangles like a toddler 🤨. Otherwise all good and look forward to returning.

Lovely food but had to wait an hour for our cooked breakfast which was really frustrating especially as later arrivals got their food before us.

Best sandwich - hot salt beef with melted cheese, gherkins, mustard, mayo, crisps and home made coleslaw!!! Yummy!! Lovely staff too!

My wife and I have been to this place 2 or4 times now the foods is always the best I would say give it a go is very very good and the staff can not do more to make you fill at home

Not been myself but hear the service is great. So great in fact that people’s girlfriends write their number on a napkin and throw it at the staff.

Love this place. They make amazing sandwiches and are always super friendly. Just strolling down to their cafe on a Sunday and grabbing a thick granary breakfast sandwich, reminds me why I love living in this town.
