Lovely selection of light lunches, desserts and scones presented well. Great service from the 2 lads on the counter, our food server was helpful and chatty and the man making the tea even warmed up the cups! Very reasonably priced with obliging staff, stairs or lift up to cafe and not forgetting all the plants downstairs!

On occasions Hillmount will offer a voucher in the local press for free cup of coffee for a couple. We have used this as an excuse to visit the shop and cafe and have always found the coffee very good.

I come to hillmount regularly with my nanny because it's easily accessible with the lift and parking, the cafe always has a nice atmosphere to it, always very bright and clean, the scones are my absolute favourite, my nanny enjoys them too which is great. The staff are always so helpful and accommodating, my nanny always raves about the young girl that works there because she's always so helpful, little details like knowing she prefers a cup and saucer rather than a mug of tea really add that extra bit of friendliness. It's our new weekly treat! Keep up the good work!

I visit hillmount regularly, usually on my own but on occasions met up with family and friends. Cafe staff are lovely and make you feel at home. Well done on their customer service... I do find it a little expensive but food and scones are delicious.

I have visited Hillmount in Newtownards on 3-4 occasions and the centre is lovely but the staff in the restaurant just drag it down on each visit. There is no level of customer service at all from these people. Rude, disinterested, couldn’t care less is the overriding attitude. I have been in business for many years and the owners of the company need to address this issue immediately as so many people I have spoken to are experiencing the same thing. The owners don’t seem to acknowledge any of the reviews which is extremely disheartening but I would implore them to react quickly or they will see their restaurant business declining drastically. I have tried to be as constructive as possible with my review but I have absolutely no time for staff that don’t care about the business they work in.

We have been to this restaurant a few times & this will be the last. The rude customer service was appalling. The staff don’t acknowledge your presence at the counter & the rude attitude is a disgrace. Our two sandwiches cost £17 which weren’t great, but it was the staff that have put me off going again. If you are not happy in your job look for a new one. The garden ctr itself is lovely & it’s a shame the cafe lets it down.

Have been to Hillmount Restaurant Newtownards many times, and also the Bangor Hillmount restaurant, both places kept clean, the scones are delicious, and a good choice to suit most people, especially the cherry scones, as this must be the only place you get cherry scones that have whole cherries in them, good choice of tray bakes and hot food, they often have deals buy one get another free, which is popular with many

Good cup of coffee accompanied by a rather large cherry scone. Very tasty but nothing more memorable here that you won't find in most other coffee shops. That said we would come back if shopping in the garden centre or Christmas shop.

We called for an afternoon coffee break. Choices were limited and staff appeared less than interested in providing a friendly atmosphere. We had a minor difficult which almost escalated unnecessarily to a major problem, which was resolved by one helpful staff member. Not in any hurry back, although the garden centre staff were friendly.

Good food if a little pricey when compared with other cafes... drinks the same... quality is good and the staff are very friendly. To me they need to be realistic about prices... they even charge 60p for a small pot of jam to go with your scone... makes for a dear meal!

We had never been to the Hillmount garden centre before and I have to say the Sunday dinner was absolutely delicious I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone. I thought there was a good selection of food. Scones also looked lovely.

My mother, niece and I went here as we love the Hillmount in Belfast. We were so disappointed. The food selection was poor and the tray bakes we ordered tasted mediocre at best. But it was the staff who really topped off our whole experience - they were so unfriendly! My little niece - aged 2 and a half - wanted a little child's box to put her food into. We were told that we couldn't even purchase the BOX itself unless we ordered a full meal for her (NB she couldn't have chips because the Hillmount Newtownards doesn't serve these). We wont be back.

The French Toast was a soggy mess of sodden bread covered in undercooked lumps of egg. 8 hours later I still feel ill at the thought of the snot texture in my mouth. I would have returned it but the staff were too busy filling water bottles and talking to catch their attention. My husbands full breakfast tasted oily and the tomato tasted mouldy. Needless to say it was my last ever visit to what had previously been a favourite place to go.

Visited this branch to make a change to our usual Belfast store and disappointed to say I won't be back here! Staff in the gardeners rest were so unfriendly and made us feel at ease! We even cought them talking about us because we weren't there usual costumers! so basically if your not local your not welcome! I asked for my favourite dish chicken and broccoli bake to be told they had none today why put it on your menu if your not going to actually prepare it! Ended up having to have the beef instead and wasn't very keen! Will stick to Belfast hillmount where the staff are all very welcoming unlike here!

Love the shop. It has a lovely selection of gifts. But the coffee shop isn’t great. The traybakes taste almost stale! Our fifteen traybake was very dry. Sorry hillmount - but donaghadee garden centre offer fresh and tastier food.

Visited here for a quick lunch whilst shopping. I found that the menu was quite basic, nothing out of the ordinary - selection of sandwiches, roast, fries etc. I opted for a toasted sandwich, my partner got the same and 2 teas for just over £13, probably quite a standard price for a garden centre cafe. The sandwich was good and served with salad and a lovely coleslaw. My main concern was around service. The girl taking the order barely said a word other than the price. I wasn’t impressed. Similarly the girl who brought us our food simply set the plates down and left. Pretty gormless all round. After lunch we decided to get a tray bake which adveraged around £2 each. Dry and stale. I won’t be hurrying back.

Visited yesterday for coffee and a lite bite with family. Sorry to say it wasn’t a great experience. While the staff were pleasant he service was not good, staff did not help to sell the food at all, too focused on getting it onto the screen that we didn’t have assistance to select what we actually wanted. Opted for stew which was ‘claggy’ too much gravy product the gravy was sticky and over powering. Bread given with stew was not at all fresh. Decaf coffee was undrinkable. Very disappointing.

I visited Hillmount for lunch with my mother and was very disappointed. It was a bank holiday, so expected it to be busy. Firstly, the restaurant had 2 members of staff serving, one managing the till and the other preparing sandwiches, panini’s etc. As a result of lack of staff, the service was exceptionally slow and neither staff member appeared to know what they were doing. We stood in a small queue for 15-20minutes before being served, Once we did get our food, a panini and sandwich, it was again disappointing- the panini was cold, with an attempt at melting cheese.

The food is incredible, we've been several times now and it's very reasonably priced. I would absolutely recommend it however there was one thing that let down our last experience. The two young chefs were listening to music in the kitchen, Irish folk which was fine, however even though we were as far from the kitchen as it was possible to be it was very annoying to hear different music being pumped into the dining area. Two conflicting songs at the same volume definitely detracted from our dining experience. Before I could say anything however they turned up the volume to play "The Fields of Athenry" again this is a song I have no issue with however if I was the owner of this establishment and knew the chefs were playing a song which is traditionally played at Celtic matches and at a markedly higher volume than the previous songs, I'd be having a word to them about inclusivity and wanting to ensure you were appealing to all customers. They've obviously not taken into account that a service industry job depends upon repeat custom and should learn exactly what that entails.
