Hillgate Cakery in Stockport

We went there today first time as we normally travel to vegan coffee shop and ice cream place in Manchester. The staff was 10/10 I can’t fault the guy, the atmosphere was ok however I really didn’t like higher chairs(I don’t find it family friendly) and no drinks/food menu on the wall makes a bit difficult to make a choice… We loved our hot chocolates however Oreo cake was 4/10. The warm food in cabinet looked lovely so we will definitely come back to try more things in the future. Thank you for lovely service and drinks.

Fabulous place!! Wonderful selection of amazing cakes and savouries. So much so it's difficult to decide!.all home baked. Vibrant atmosphere and really welcoming service from Simon. Extra bonus, selection of vegan groceries for sale . Left with a happy tummy and full shopping bag . Will definitely be back. X

It’s pretty much a one of a kind sort of shop, especially in Stockport — if I had to compare it with anywhere then perhaps The Eighth Day Shop & Cafe in Manchester would be it. The cakes are much better here though…

Discovered this hidden gem of a coffee shop. Really welcoming. Cappuccino and hot choc lovely! Cupcakes and warm chocolate fudge cake delicious, will return!

Beautiful vegan bakery Sage + onion roll 🤌

My partner and I visited the cafe on a wet miserable Sunday afternoon. We ordered a bagel, warm chocolate fudge cake, tea and a hot chocolate. Service excellent, really friendly. Food really good. Seemed to be a regular stop for the customers. Would recommend a visit. We are not vegans but very glad we found this gem.

Been coming here for a year now and can safely say it's my favourite place in Stockport, service and food is perfect. Highly recommend!

Best vegan cakery in south Manchester

Have been meaning to have a sit down drink and cake here for some time. The victoria sponge was delicious and a very generous size, and the tea was great with almond milk. Can't wait to go back and check out the savoury menu!

Absolutely brilliant, chilled out artistic venue run/owned by a guy with a calm demeanour. I can highly recommend the Oreo brownies.

I visit this place regularly as it's just so perfect and homely. I'm not a fan of these huge open plan office type coffee places and Hillgate Cakery is certainly not one of those. It's cosy ( but not small) and the owners always take time for a chat even when they are super busy. The coffee is delicious as are all the cakes, biscuits and savoury foods on offer. Very reasonably priced too.

Vegans are always on the look out for a good cake and coffee. Popped in on the off chance on a Sunday and it was delicious. Only a small place but packs a punch with the cake. A few bits of vegan produce in a central stand in the shop, handy. I would definitely recommend this place and it’s worth a bit of a drive x

Popular cafe with the best vegan cakes in Manchester or Stockport (and I've tried many venues over the years). So happy to visit again for a sweet slice and a cuppa. Wide range of teas, coffees and savory food, plus a little shop of vegan foodie treats/cooking products too. Hillgate Cakery deserves all the success it's found and I think customers are excited to see what the future brings for this much loved cafe.

I have been several times now, and I love the way they have evolved since they strarted. I have to say their food is phenomenal! Both the sweet and savoury. Well priced too. I would definitely recommend Lord Of The Pies. Keep up the great work!

Some of the best vegan cake I have ever had. I had a black forest gateau still cake and it was gooey and moist. Amazing and really friendly staff!

Ordered chocolate birthday cake and it was perfect 🍰 rich and chocolatey but not sickly as the sponge itself isn't too sweet. Definitely worth the money, even if you're not vegan!

Good coffee and cake. Much needed after a bike ride. They make the coffe with non-dairy milk if you need it.

Ordered an all chocolate vegan cake for my wife’s birthday. I was wary about it being vegan, as neither my wife or I are vegan, but I trusted Sarah could pull off an amazing cake regardless as I have ordered from her before she went all-vegan. I’m glad I did. It was an amazing cake and nobody would know it wasn’t a regular cake unless you told them. Order from here and enjoy a delicious cake whatever the occasion.

My son & his partner took me here to try out the Vegan cakes. Oh my! What gorgeous cakes, we had a coffee & sat chatting. The shop is a little Vintage, which I adore so I was in a happy place. The prices are very reasonable & the choice is plentiful. I will be returning very soon.

Visited with my daughter & family for drinks & cakes. Very friendly cafe with a good selection of cakes & original chocolates. There is a good selection of drinks including decaffeinated. I have previously bought cakes & chocolates to take away so can highly recommend the homemade things here.

This was my first contact with The Cakery. Was delighted to be able to order some cupcakes for a birthday. On going to collect them there was a pleasant welcome. Really enjoyed a coffee and vegans were happy with the cakes.

Called in today after checking out Tripadvisor for a cafe with vegan options. Arrived and was served by a very friendly lady wearing fabulous vintage clothes and at that point discovered all cakes were vegan! Great selection of cakes. I had a lemon cake with peppermint tea and my daughter had an Oreo slice with mango and apple juice. Both cakes were totally delicious. The Oreo cake was so gooey and moist. They also sell large party cakes. Just order in plenty of time. We also bought a peanut butter sponge as take out and my partner thought it was great. I’m shocked I didn’t know this place existed and both me and my daughter will be visiting again.

Popped in after walking past loads of times. Really good cakes , especially the blondes! will definitely be back soon!

I've been visiting on a weekly basis now for a few months. It's the best cafe in the town centre and it's well worth a visit if you're in the area. The owners are friendly, the tea is tasty and the cakes are lovely.

I have been getting cakes from Sarah the owner of the shop for over 6 years now they have always been brilliant, I've recently been in shop twice & her cakes are still just as good :) nice relaxed atmosphere in shop also

Lovely cakes, welcome addition to Stockport

Passed by a number of times, before I finally decided to check it out today. The owner was pleasant, as were the surroundings. The cake (I had a ginger, chocolate and cranberry brownie) was lovely, as was the chai tea. I definitely recommend the Hillgate Cakery and I'll be going in again soon!

I discovered this little gem about a year ago. Since my first taste of these amazing cakes, I've been back every week since. Suitable for all dietary requirements and delicious. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming with all the staff being so lovely. They also sell little hard-to-find vegan and gluten-free treats too.

This place does everything right. Really delicious cakes, friendly staff, great decor. Probably my favourite place in Stockport.

The cakes and treats in this lovely little shop are divine 😍 sampled a chocolate cake, biscoff Blondie and orange and ginger tiffin. All beautiful and would never guess it is all vegan!! Hats off to the chef!

After trying the cakes with my wife and being blown away, I've taken my non vegan siblings, parents and friends, they have all been amazed and what can be acheived without egg and butter, and to such a high standard. There's a great selection of freshly baked cakes and other treats every day (apart from Mondays when they're closed). The sponge cake is fantastic, I've tried red velvet, biscoff (an absolute must!!) and most recently a mint oreo. Not to mention their other bits, rocky road slice, brownies, lemon cake, there's something for everyone. p.s. I've been coming here since early 2018, I've not eaten all this cake in a short period of time... The owners are really friendly and incredibly welcoming every time you walk through the door. They also do cakes to order for special events, birthdays etc which look phenomenal, check out their Instagram! And pay them a visit the next time you're in Stockport.

5 of us called in on a Sunday afternoon and pretty much tried everything. The quality of the cakes, the friendly service and the pleasant surroundings makes this place an absolute joy. The plan is to go into savory snacks as well we were told, for this I cannot wait!

Amazing little place in an up and coming area, affectionately know as 'Sto-ho', run by some awesome folks. All the cakes are vegan, and they have a selection of nondairy milk for your coffee. We tried sooo much of their cake, and all of it was excellent. Can't wait to go back next time I'm down. 😁

Went to Hillgate Cakery today - have been meaning to make the trip for a while now. Was worth the trip! All you wouldn’t know they were vegan cakes. Just ahared lemon cake (melt in mouth), oreo brownie and rocky road. Wasn’t prepared to share the victoria sponge as it’s my all time favourite cake. Wasn’t disappointed! Really generous portions ans friendly greeting. Please go and enjoy!

Wonderful cakes on offer (all Vegan, but the most discerning carnivore wouldn't guess!) in a small but perfectly formed cafe on Hill gate, Stockport . Coffees teas and soft drinks on offer plus friendly chat from Simon....the main man. Didn't get to meet Sarah, but have witnessed some of her fantastic cakes. Made to order. Highly recommended, especially as an alternative to the yawningly predictable high street coffee shops. Make an effort if in Stockport and travel that extra 100 yards. It'll be worthwhile.

The best cakes I've ever tasted in my entire life. I am absolutely obsessed with this place and will never tire of the delicious coffee and walnut cake ! I LOVE the decor and the atmosphere. The owners are so friendly and always chatty :) I always feel so comfortable and the owners always look so happy. This is definitely my favourite vegan place ever! The only thing I'd change is the seating, but I just enjoy slouching and crossing my legs too much! This place should be on everyones list as a place to visit, honestly outstanding !

Tucked away, surrounded by closed or empty shops, the cake shop was the only light on the street and it was busy on a rainy afternoon. Plenty of choice of cakes, all which looked delicious! I had the millionaires shortbread which was quite chewy but amazing and my boyfriend had the blueberry crumb cake which was really good! Amazing to believe that it was all vegan as well! Friendly staff and I would return.

I love cake full stop but since becoming vegan six months ago I’m not eating as much as I would like !

Amazing friendly staff..and cake to die for

Went for the first time today as friends had recommended this new cafe. All three cakes we tried were super yummy - I couldn’t believe they were all vegan! - and our 6-year old, who has a severe dairy allergy, didn’t believe that for the first time he could choose whichever cake he wanted. Comment: ‘I never want to leave’.

If you like cake you have to come here. I'm not vegetarian but that doesn't matter because you would never know that everything in this shop is vegan. The portions are large, a little too much because my husband has to help me finish mine. Every cake I've sampled has been lush. My favorite is the banana bread. Sarah is a genius when it comes to making cake.

Great cakes, which also happen to be cruelty free! Got a couple of (huge) slices to take away and some cupcakes. Really cheap for the quality and size of the portions. The biscoff cake was sensational! Lovely warm welcome, I would have felt comfortable eating cake here on my own. Can't recommend highly enough.

This cake shop is a real gem in Stockport town centre. The cakes are absolutely unbelievable and if you didn't know they were vegan, you just wouldn't be able to tell. As a vegan who has been cake-starved for years, this is a wonderful addition to our town centre and the two people who run it are so friendly and welcoming. Stockport is blessed!!!!

If you love cake you have to try this place. I bought the Oreo brownie, you’d easily get 2 servings out of a piece, you won’t be able to stop eating it though ! The Victoria Sponge is the same, huge portions and the most gorgeous sponge.

We visited mid week. It has a lovely relaxed vibe and the owners are so friendly. We felt right at home straight away. We tried the chocolate cherry cake and the millionaires shortbread with a cup of coffee. The coffee was delicious and the cakes were amazing!! We were in cake heaven. I wanted my slice to go on forever. We'll definitely be going back. We have so many more cakes to try and they all look irresistible. I'm recommending hillgate cakery to all my friends and family.

Popped in for some cake with my Nana as it was her 95th Birthday and we fancied some cake to take home. I'm vegan so I had heard about Hillgate - was so happy to see coffee & walnut cake - this was my favourite cake years ago before turning vegan. It did not disappoint. Lovely, fluffy, tasty just pure Yum. We also got a slice of victoria sponge which was equally delicious. Will definitely be popping back.
