Hiks in Swansea

Excellent fish and chips from the Frier in the flat cap. Very busy on Wednesday when we called in on way to football. The three of us were last in the queue but were promised fresh fish if we waited. We did and the resulting food was well fried, not under cooked and not dripping in oil. One of the best on our away trips this season. Charlie and football friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday Lunch, I order a dinner practically every Sunday. I also order fish and chips in the evening. The food is always cooked fresh. If I could give them 10 stars I definitely would

Strange service here. Could see from our seats in the restaurant that people ordering take-aways were served instantly, as one would expect. However, restaurant customers wait until counter sales are processed. Despite paying much more. Only ordered sausage beans and chips x2. Waited 25 minutes: sufficient time to present warm food. Sadly, it was lukewarm at best

Absolutely beautiful meal. Jace ordered from two different takeaways previously that weren’t that great but hiks put my faith back into food deliveries. The fish was cooked perfectly the mushy peas too along with the rest of the order. Courier 5* too

Queríamos pescado con patatas fritas y decidimos comer en el restaurante. Desafortunadamente, eso viene con un menú diferente, menos flexible que el menú para llevar. Queríamos solo un bacalao cada uno y compartir una porción de patatas fritas. El menú del restaurante no lo permite , pero el menú para llevar sí –simplemente se compra 2 bacalaos y una porción de patatas fritas para llevar, y si hubiéramos sabido que los 2 menús permitían opciones diferentes habríamos elegido el take - away y comido en el coche. Así que teníamos que tener, con el bacalao, una porción completa de patatas fritas cada una, y una ensalada, que no queríamos en absoluto. Así que aparte de esta molestia, aquí hay algunas más. La piel de bacalao se deja antes de cocinar – pensé que los chippies ilustrados habían aprendido mejor. ¡Los guisantes no están disponibles en ninguno de los menús! Los chips no son tan malos, pero tampoco son buenos. El punto brillante era la calidad del bacalao – era muy bueno, y el personal era amable. Ojalá pudieran corregir las deficiencias anteriores.

Hasta por otras 2 noches estar y estar en Aberavon cerca. Como siempre consulta TA para las opciones de Cena de Viernes Comer En Pescado. ¡Elegido aquí, Winner! Personal impecable, amable y excelente relación calidad-precio grande Cod & Chips para ambos. Generosas porciones, bacalao fresco y masa crujiente asesina. Por lo tanto, muy recomendable!

Unfortunately, the fish and chips were Luke warm. The fish was swimming in oil and the batter was soggy in places. Many of the chips were the odds and ends of the potato. Several chips had that earthy taste. So, unfortunately, way below your normal standard, and I left most of the batter and the chips. Disappointing.

Very disappointing portion sizes! Ordered a large chips and was hardly any chips there. Also the fish bites were very small! Disappointed as it’s been great in the past!

Took the family down today for a Sunday dinner and we was definitely not disappointed, the dinner was outstanding! Will definitely be returning

I ordered food early, to be delivered at 2. it was a large order (£60) and it was about 1½hours late and cold, I wasn't impressed as I had family over. The only thing I'll say is that this is the 1st time I've had cold food and its been so late

The food provided was exquisite. Hiks has a reputation as one of the best chippys in the UK and it has lived up to that reputation. Definitely will like to come again.

To be honest the food was very nice. But I was fooled by a photo of cod and chips for over £10 presuming that at that price chips would be included. No. £10 just for a piece of battered cod. That is, I’m afraid, a rip off

Can of coke missing from order. Bag ripped when courier removed it from his pouch, entire order fell onto the floor. Gravy spilt and fish was broken into pieces but remained edible. Refund claimed. 5hit happens I guess!

From initial order and delivery time moved on almost an hour. However the roast dinner was worth the wait it was huge and do good I am forgiving the wait time!!

Wow. What a wonderful place. We visited swansea for a few days and don't know the area. Found this place on the net. They even cooked the fish in separate oil because we didn't want it cooked in the same oil as the sausages. The staff are awesome. Thank you, everyone, especially the cook

Recibí las picaduras ligeras de bacalao y patatas fritas y fue muy agradable. La comida era sustancial y para un bocado ligero era bastante grande. Las decoraciones de Halloween eran lindas y era un chippy de aspecto agradable. La música era extraña pero divertida. El personal era agradable, pero, ensalada en un pescado con patatas fritas es SIMPLEMENTE incorrecto.

La comida era agradable y el servicio era bueno, también me dieron un montón de ketchup, que es una ventaja, sin embargo, la música era extraña, ya que tocaron estos terribles remixes.

Great to eat in, although the bench seats are massively high, so ok for some people but uncomfortable for others. Food is the main event and it does not disappoint! Staff more than happy to make suggestions if youre new. Hicks is also great to take out as well promptly made and ready to go.

The battered sausages were very overdone and grainy. Left on the hotplate for way to long. Chips were fine but overly salted tonight. Still a fan of Hiks - usual very high quality but a let down this time.

Been going there for years best chippy in opinion

Still had 50 minutes till closing, but as i got there they said they were closed and couldnt order anything.

My friend and I were was visiting Wales (from Canada) and after a hard day of castle hopping wanted a good fish-and-chips meal. We googled and Hiks came up so we thought we'd try there. It was really, really good. The batter on the fish was so light and crispy, and you get a good sized piece of fish. The french fries were great too, local potatoes, nice and crispy on the outside and done perfectly inside. You get a lot of french fries with the full order! And the tartar sauce was delicious too. The people working in the restaurant were lovely to us. It was a bit later, so we were the only ones there and they had probably wanted to close up early! Aug 31, 2024

Just collected our food. The chips were awful. They were cold and all scraps. Looked like they’d been standing all day.

This was actually really nice! The fish and chips were good value for money and tasty! The staff were very friendly.

Wouldn't go anywhere else the food was delicious.

Had a takeaway. Worst fish and chips I've had in years. I managed to eat the fish my chickens had the chips. Service was poor, unable to provide my original choice - cheese rissole- will never go back.

Ordered a Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious. An amazing selection of fresh veg and it arrived so quickly too. Full to the brim now as the qualities are very good. Will certainly be ordering again. Well worth the money

I usually love hiks food but tonight it wasn't as good as it usually is. I'm guessing it's because it's wednesday and it's student night maybe...and therefore very busy. It hasn't put me off ordering though.

Worst meal I've ever had from Hicks ! Very little fish more batter than fish.Chips were miserly and very few ! It'll be a long time before I use them again.Very disappointed.

Well, it's been a long time since we went to Hiks, changed a bit regards to the outlay of the space, now they have a restaurant part as well. But we waited a quite long time for our order whilst a whole lot of other customers were served and gone... However my biggest shock was the portion sizes of the chips and even bigger shock was what I got for fish bites?! I mean we had fish bites in a other fish and chips shop before but I have never seen in my life this small?! And I paid nearly £30 for 3 small chips, a chicken burger with salad leaves and mayonnaise extra (it didn't come with the burger?!) 2 sausages and 3 fish bites?! I guess it's going to be only special occasions when we go to Hiks next time, way too expensive compared to way better fish and chips shops in Swansea...

*Updated * Had to update to 5 from 4 stars just cos the fish n chips i just had from there were absolute perfection,fresh fish cooked by John(or Jonathan?) Was the best piece of fish ive had anywhere,no soggy bits in the batter at all and fish still soft and flaky perfection inside,a real skill to that im sure! Earlier points still stand re cost but as explained by owner in his reply,his costs are thro the roof, still means its an irregular treat nowadays but still,if you want a treat then you couldn't do much better than the fish n chips from here! Lovely clean and modern decor,staff lovely and the lad on the fish cooking has it nailed!

Food was nice but their attitudes are appaling. If you don’t like your job then don’t work there. Won’t be going back as I felt very unwelcomed and looked down upon. Need to sort your attitudes out
