Fantastic family-run restaurant with a huge selection of delicious food.

We used to love Hiks and, were a regular customer there. But, now the food is so expensive, also the portion and quality been significantly reduced. And, we brought a large cod but, when I opened the boxes I didn't know if the cod was small, large, or medium. I was confused, I would've never have expected for the portion of the food to decrease this much..Almost £10 for a piece of cod that had barely any batter.

Although delivered in good time food was barely warm, sausage in batter was disgusting batter was so hard it came off in 1 piece.

Superb. Called in for a second time on Good Friday '25. Lovely Owner & Staff, restaurant spotless and Haddock, Chips & a salad garnish for £9.95 per person. Just outstanding ! Long may they prosper.

It was okay, but the beef were very thin and the mash potatoes were not good. Bit of let down tbh but the staff were lovely and understood our disability.

Absolutely lovely breakfast from our favourite chippy😋 Arrived hot and well packed especially the coffee which was still hot on arrival. Food cooked to perfection and very tasty. 5***** meals always from here. Many thanks!!

Edit: Thanks for replying Hiks! However, it's just a review, I am not going to single out a staff member for them to be reprimanded. You even get 5 stars for the food! Not my go to chippy these days, I found better value portions, but I decided to go in passing for convenience after the rugby! I was pleased to find the portions of chips are back to a decent size, and are comparable to others in the area. Large chips means large chips again. Good quality battered sausage, too, much better than many others. The only downside from the visit was the speed of service. The food is fresh, so a wait is expected, fair. I didn't even order fish and people served after me left before me! But, the biggest bugbear is asking for LOADS of salt n vinegar and barely getting any... Do it myself next time! Tight! That sucks! I would go back, hopefully the staff aren't so sullen whenever I visit next! It's not like it was understaffed, or particularly busy!

Missing food no rissole in batter

Tried the roast dinner because I love the sausage and chips, however very disappointed. The portion size is the only good thing. Quality of the food is terrible, it looks like it's days old, and doesn't taste much better. Half the food wasn't edible. Would rather get less food and be able to eat it all for £14.

Clientes habituales, pero después de la falta de servicio de hoy irán a otro lugar para comer. Pedí comidas y bebidas. Pedí agua del grifo y un vaso para mi bebida fría (no me gusta beber de latas). A mitad de nuestras comidas, nada había sido llevado a nuestra mesa. Preguntó a otra persona que, una vez más, dijo que los traería. Terminé de comer y salí llevando mi lata de bebida sin abrir en la mano. No estaba ocupado como era tarde. Realmente no lo suficientemente bueno...

We ordered a large cod. And it was a lot smaller than we have had in the past. It was delicious. But unfortunately I would have enjoyed a larger piece of fish. Thanks

Food was nice but portion size wasn't great considering the price of the food served. Saying that the people working were pleasant.

Ordered the sunday roasta many times and theres always an excellenr selection of fresh veg and meat. Plentiful too

I ordered 4 mince and onion pies. They were incredibly salty, Totally inedible. I'm not sure who supplys your pies but you need to bring this up.

He tenido excursiones de pescado y patatas fritas antes, pero nunca entró y se sentó fue con amigos omg era impresionante había 8 de nosotros todos teníamos pequeñas patatas fritas ensalada y una bebida omg estaba caliente bien servido y todo salió junto el lugar estaba impecable limpio buena elección en el menú y los baños bien valorados estaban impecables el personal era increíble gracias jueves, s OAP obtener un descuento

Bueno, realmente no sé cómo decirlo con palabras que le harían justicia llamé para conseguirle a mi mamá un poco de pescado con papas fritas que está en el hospital así que no quería algo grande las dos damas que estaban allí estaban explicando las mejores opciones así que finalmente me decidí por pescado pequeño y la mano llena de papas fritas parecía que nada era demasiado problema incluso envolvieron la caja en papel de aluminio para mantenerla caliente más tiempo lo que pensé que era realmente considerado mi madre estaba disfrutando mucho de su comida ella seguía diciendo lo encantador que era mi boca estaba aguando así que decidimos conseguir un poco en el camino a casa y cuando entré allí habían cerrado hace unos cinco minutos pero el tipo que estaba cocinando dijo que nos cocinará un poco de pescado Pensé que era tan encantador y no mucha gente haría eso así que cada uno tenía un pescado grande con papas fritas y el pescado era enorme Realmente disfrutamos No pensé que me lo comería todo pero era tan sabroso y rebozado tan crujiente Definitivamente volveremos allí y estoy diciendo a todos lo maravilloso que todo fue muchas gracias

Excellent fish and chips from the Frier in the flat cap. Very busy on Wednesday when we called in on way to football. The three of us were last in the queue but were promised fresh fish if we waited. We did and the resulting food was well fried, not under cooked and not dripping in oil. One of the best on our away trips this season. Charlie and football friends.

Strange service here. Could see from our seats in the restaurant that people ordering take-aways were served instantly, as one would expect. However, restaurant customers wait until counter sales are processed. Despite paying much more. Only ordered sausage beans and chips x2. Waited 25 minutes: sufficient time to present warm food. Sadly, it was lukewarm at best

Absolutely beautiful meal. Jace ordered from two different takeaways previously that weren’t that great but hiks put my faith back into food deliveries. The fish was cooked perfectly the mushy peas too along with the rest of the order. Courier 5* too

Queríamos pescado con patatas fritas y decidimos comer en el restaurante. Desafortunadamente, eso viene con un menú diferente, menos flexible que el menú para llevar. Queríamos solo un bacalao cada uno y compartir una porción de patatas fritas. El menú del restaurante no lo permite , pero el menú para llevar sí –simplemente se compra 2 bacalaos y una porción de patatas fritas para llevar, y si hubiéramos sabido que los 2 menús permitían opciones diferentes habríamos elegido el take - away y comido en el coche. Así que teníamos que tener, con el bacalao, una porción completa de patatas fritas cada una, y una ensalada, que no queríamos en absoluto. Así que aparte de esta molestia, aquí hay algunas más. La piel de bacalao se deja antes de cocinar – pensé que los chippies ilustrados habían aprendido mejor. ¡Los guisantes no están disponibles en ninguno de los menús! Los chips no son tan malos, pero tampoco son buenos. El punto brillante era la calidad del bacalao – era muy bueno, y el personal era amable. Ojalá pudieran corregir las deficiencias anteriores.

Hasta por otras 2 noches estar y estar en Aberavon cerca. Como siempre consulta TA para las opciones de Cena de Viernes Comer En Pescado. ¡Elegido aquí, Winner! Personal impecable, amable y excelente relación calidad-precio grande Cod & Chips para ambos. Generosas porciones, bacalao fresco y masa crujiente asesina. Por lo tanto, muy recomendable!

Unfortunately, the fish and chips were Luke warm. The fish was swimming in oil and the batter was soggy in places. Many of the chips were the odds and ends of the potato. Several chips had that earthy taste. So, unfortunately, way below your normal standard, and I left most of the batter and the chips. Disappointing.

Very disappointing portion sizes! Ordered a large chips and was hardly any chips there. Also the fish bites were very small! Disappointed as it’s been great in the past!

Took the family down today for a Sunday dinner and we was definitely not disappointed, the dinner was outstanding! Will definitely be returning

I ordered food early, to be delivered at 2. it was a large order (£60) and it was about 1½hours late and cold, I wasn't impressed as I had family over. The only thing I'll say is that this is the 1st time I've had cold food and its been so late

The food provided was exquisite. Hiks has a reputation as one of the best chippys in the UK and it has lived up to that reputation. Definitely will like to come again.

Can of coke missing from order. Bag ripped when courier removed it from his pouch, entire order fell onto the floor. Gravy spilt and fish was broken into pieces but remained edible. Refund claimed. 5hit happens I guess!

From initial order and delivery time moved on almost an hour. However the roast dinner was worth the wait it was huge and do good I am forgiving the wait time!!

Wow. What a wonderful place. We visited swansea for a few days and don't know the area. Found this place on the net. They even cooked the fish in separate oil because we didn't want it cooked in the same oil as the sausages. The staff are awesome. Thank you, everyone, especially the cook

Recibí las picaduras ligeras de bacalao y patatas fritas y fue muy agradable. La comida era sustancial y para un bocado ligero era bastante grande. Las decoraciones de Halloween eran lindas y era un chippy de aspecto agradable. La música era extraña pero divertida. El personal era agradable, pero, ensalada en un pescado con patatas fritas es SIMPLEMENTE incorrecto.

La comida era agradable y el servicio era bueno, también me dieron un montón de ketchup, que es una ventaja, sin embargo, la música era extraña, ya que tocaron estos terribles remixes.

Great to eat in, although the bench seats are massively high, so ok for some people but uncomfortable for others. Food is the main event and it does not disappoint! Staff more than happy to make suggestions if youre new. Hicks is also great to take out as well promptly made and ready to go.
