Hiks in Swansea

Wow. What a wonderful place. We visited swansea for a few days and don't know the area. Found this place on the net. They even cooked the fish in separate oil because we didn't want it cooked in the same oil as the sausages. The staff are awesome. Thank you, everyone, especially the cook

Great to eat in, although the bench seats are massively high, so ok for some people but uncomfortable for others. Food is the main event and it does not disappoint! Staff more than happy to make suggestions if youre new. Hicks is also great to take out as well promptly made and ready to go.

The best fish and chis I have ever eaten. Crispy chips and very good batter, Both od and plaice top quality. Wine ok for the price

The battered sausages were very overdone and grainy. Left on the hotplate for way to long. Chips were fine but overly salted tonight. Still a fan of Hiks - usual very high quality but a let down this time.

Still had 50 minutes till closing, but as i got there they said they were closed and couldnt order anything.

My friend and I were was visiting Wales (from Canada) and after a hard day of castle hopping wanted a good fish-and-chips meal. We googled and Hiks came up so we thought we'd try there. It was really, really good. The batter on the fish was so light and crispy, and you get a good sized piece of fish. The french fries were great too, local potatoes, nice and crispy on the outside and done perfectly inside. You get a lot of french fries with the full order! And the tartar sauce was delicious too. The people working in the restaurant were lovely to us. It was a bit later, so we were the only ones there and they had probably wanted to close up early! Aug 31, 2024

Just collected our food. The chips were awful. They were cold and all scraps. Looked like they’d been standing all day.

This was actually really nice! The fish and chips were good value for money and tasty! The staff were very friendly.

Wouldn't go anywhere else the food was delicious.

My fish was all black underneath including the batter I could only eat the white part of the fish and this is’my regular order

Had a takeaway. Worst fish and chips I've had in years. I managed to eat the fish my chickens had the chips. Service was poor, unable to provide my original choice - cheese rissole- will never go back.

Always great food freshly cooked from hiks used them many times now this delivery was super quick only 20 minutes after I ordered keep up the good works guys I know the owner he shopped in Morrisons when I was working the bread , thanks again Andy

Ordered a Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious. An amazing selection of fresh veg and it arrived so quickly too. Full to the brim now as the qualities are very good. Will certainly be ordering again. Well worth the money

I usually love hiks food but tonight it wasn't as good as it usually is. I'm guessing it's because it's wednesday and it's student night maybe...and therefore very busy. It hasn't put me off ordering though.

Stunning food but I’ve noticed that they’ve changed their Irish curry sauce to heritage curry which ain’t the same but it’s alright .

Just had beautiful evening with family at Hicks restaurant, oh wow, the food and staff are amazing. The best chips i ever tasted, looking forward to our next visit.

Worst meal I've ever had from Hicks ! Very little fish more batter than fish.Chips were miserly and very few ! It'll be a long time before I use them again.Very disappointed.

Well, it's been a long time since we went to Hiks, changed a bit regards to the outlay of the space, now they have a restaurant part as well. But we waited a quite long time for our order whilst a whole lot of other customers were served and gone... However my biggest shock was the portion sizes of the chips and even bigger shock was what I got for fish bites?! I mean we had fish bites in a other fish and chips shop before but I have never seen in my life this small?! And I paid nearly £30 for 3 small chips, a chicken burger with salad leaves and mayonnaise extra (it didn't come with the burger?!) 2 sausages and 3 fish bites?! I guess it's going to be only special occasions when we go to Hiks next time, way too expensive compared to way better fish and chips shops in Swansea...

*Updated * Had to update to 5 from 4 stars just cos the fish n chips i just had from there were absolute perfection,fresh fish cooked by John(or Jonathan?) Was the best piece of fish ive had anywhere,no soggy bits in the batter at all and fish still soft and flaky perfection inside,a real skill to that im sure! Earlier points still stand re cost but as explained by owner in his reply,his costs are thro the roof, still means its an irregular treat nowadays but still,if you want a treat then you couldn't do much better than the fish n chips from here! Lovely clean and modern decor,staff lovely and the lad on the fish cooking has it nailed!

Food was nice but their attitudes are appaling. If you don’t like your job then don’t work there. Won’t be going back as I felt very unwelcomed and looked down upon. Need to sort your attitudes out

food was soggy and not as got as normal chips were the worst we have ever had there they clearly had delivered to a few people before us as batter on fish was stuck to the paper so we had half battered fish for the price they charge bot acceptable will not be ordering again

My first impression was "Hey I like this place", food, staff, service Fish & Chip Restaurant is absolutely superb, I couldn't leave without complimenting the staff, I can't speak highly enough of this Chippy.....oh and the Toilet was very clean and very usable 🚽🤩

First time order. The place was really clean, the staff were really lovely, kind and professional given how busy they seemed. The food was great, I loved the Irish curry especially. it'll be our new go-to whenever we have a chippie. I have some of my European family come over next month if they want to try traditional British fish and chips I'll order from here!

Food is great I can't complain but when I was ordering from the phone the person on the other line started shouting at me down the phone because I was breaking up and I tried everything I could and they still couldn't hear me so instead of waiting for me to find somewhere else they hung up on me without saying anything. I don't think someone like their job but all I ask is for some patience and there was no need to raise your voice because I'm breaking up! In the future have some patience!

Paid £27 for a delivery of two large fish ended up with two small ones 9 inches long.35 pence for carrier bag plus surcharge

We haven't actuyally been here but we had delivery and the food is lovely. It arrived hot and was packaged perfectly. Whenever I feel like chip shop chips....we always order from here.

Friendly staff were very accommodating to our requests (we ordered a vegan burger and wanted to know specific differences between the veggie and vegan burger, the chef came round to show us the ingredients), the decor is modern and clean. Extensive menu, somewhere between traditional fish and chip and pub lunch, equally suited to eating in or takeaway. Chips were unfortunately a little too greasy and undercooked.

always order from here and it's always lovely but tonight it was awful arrived stone cold and the chips were really greasy so much so the grease had soaked through the paper.

Didn't eat in, however we called literally 10minutes before they closed and they were really cool about us ordering, even gave us a few free things and discounts. The staff were lovely and the food, probably the best tasting chippy in swansea. Next time I have a chippy I'm coming back here Update: came here again last night and the food was lovely, had a burger and chips, and sausage and chips. Ee were stuffed and the prices are good! Staff were friendly, its our favourite chippy and the best one we've been too.

Ordered a meal, wouldn't separate the curry sauce into a separate pot (fair enough) but then they didn't give me my can of drink. Edit: Review definitely isn't unfair. I admitted the inability to separate the sauce as fair enough. I also ordered the meal online for collection and wasn't told I needed to grab the drink myself, what an odd thing to have a customer for collection assume they do. Poor communication from staff.

Just had cod and chips from Hiks It was beautiful Cooked to perfection crispy Bater and succulent cod inside The chips were full size with plenty of vinegar.. the way I like it All served in a nice box with a lid ..😀👍❤️

food was exceptional I haven't enjoyed a chipshop like that for ages to be honest I was abit skeptical chippy on delivery but can't fault it piping hot, quick service and even the fish was still crispy even though it was in a box which is no easy challenge because everyone knows moisture is a batters worst enemy so well done really enjoyed and will definitely order again 👍
