Hickory's Smokehouse Nuthall in Broxtowe

Friday 2.30pm. 25 October. Food was poor. I wanted a glass of red wine. Wine list said red wine. No further description of whether it was dry sweet or type of grape. So I asked if I could taste it. They brought me a glass with a small mouthful. My son paid for lunch and didn’t want to tell me until we had left.he was charged £1 for that ‘taster’ which was absolutely unpalatable for me. Sour and unidentifiable by grape. This small act of meanness together with the poor quality food is a no no for me to ever go again. As a further comment had I have known you had charged for that I would have deducted it from the ‘tip’. We also had to ask to be moved from a tiny table for 2 in front of the door which blasted winter cold air everytime it was opened. Also impossible to have more than one drink and a plate on the table. No room for sides. I would have given zero stars if I could.

Just been to hickories for the first time with the wife and youngest child, well looked after by Ethan. 10/10 for service food.

It was a unique experience, almost like being in the US. It was outstanding for the kids. They loved the play area and the cinema.

Staff couldn't do enough for you they were brilliant and the food was amazing, the ribs just fell off the bone, never tasted pulled pork until you try Hickorys pulled pork it was out of this world, will definitely be going back. Worth the 2 buses it took me to get there 10/10

We went last night for my birthday it is 100% worth a visit here, the atmosphere, service and food is amazing!! All the staff are lovely, especially our server Jess. She went up and beyond for us, I ordered cocktails and she made it into a special drinks board for my birthday which was a lovely personal touch that I didn’t expect but was very much appreciated! The food is always 10/10 you won’t be disappointed. Thank you for a great night!

Great place for a small gathering of friends and/or family celebrating. Food was really nice and well anticipated by the staff. Lauren our server did an outstanding job keeping us feed and watered..... Highly recommended for food, service and price.

Absolutely wonderful in every way, especially for a special occasion where you want a lively atmosphere. Could be a little noisy for anyone wanting a romantic evening.

First time I've been, and it was excellent. It's expensive, but it's well worth it for a treat for yourself.

Took my lad for his 10th birthday, this must be our 30+ visit to the hickory's chain and as always the service food was bang on. They even gave him a birthday desert with accompanying chorus of happy birthday. If you haven't had a hickorys, you're missing out.

Went this weekend for a birthday unfortunately the place is starting to go downhill. The food is still good but the service was shocking. We waited nearly 30mins after being seated for our waitress to come & take the order we then had to track her down to say we were ready for the main course. On all our other visits any food we had left over was always taken away & boxed for us this time we were told they don't do to go boxes & we were brought several sheets of tin foil & a bag so had to pack away the food ourselves. Probably won't be going as often as we used to. Not only great dinners but great breakfasts too.

4th visit for my birthday....family had a great time as always I had the cowboy steak again (£25) with a side of mushrooms...and OMG are they good!! Overall the food and service was epic.

Came here with family for a double Birthday Meal for myself & my dad, they put a sign on the table saying "Happy Birthday" food was amazing we ordered, the Hickorys smokehouse BBQ chicken, 2 memphis baby back ribs with maple, beef brisket with extra sides & kids mac and cheese with chips 10/10 we had pudding and they brought us both a Hickorys Birthday donut each & sang happy birthday with both our names which was really nice! Also Absolutely loved the Grape Soda!! This was my 2nd time coming and will be Absolutely coming again.. I forgot the nice gentleman's name who served us but he was amazing too! & my boyfriend left a bigger tip as they was amazing along with the food! Thank you😊 Visted on 11/10/2024 at 6pm

First ever time at a Hickorys and it certainly won't be my last! Firstly the staff are amazing and super friendly. My waiter was Ethan and provided super friendly service throughout my evening meal, even helping me decide between the many interesting and tasty sounding dishes on offer. The food is really tasty, I had the chicken waffles and a cookie sandwich for dessert all washed down with a root beer float. Perhaps I over did it a little bit I am completely stuffed. I can't recommend this place enough if you are in the area I whole heartily recommend this great restaurant!

First visit to Hickory's, food was lovely and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere and restaurant staff were great too. Portion sizes were just ok, nothing big, I was alittle disappointed with the brisket sub as the brisket was pretty absent but the whole experience was good. For special occasions this is a go to and we'll return for sure.

Amazing tasting food. Overpriced for portion sizes but the meat melted in our mouths. Very good flavours and smells. Cocktails and rum options were great. Could improve the lager options though. Very accommodating for birthdays.

We revisited Hickory’s as last time we visited we had not such a great experience. We were served by a manager, didn’t catch her name but her service was excellent. We went all out with 3 courses and a few drinks each. All the food was piping hot, well presented and delicious. After our last experience which took us 4 months to revisit, we will be coming back again sooner. Thankyou to the nuthall team for giving us a lovely new experience. We throughly enjoyed ourselves.

This place was incredible, it was my partners birthday so they gave us a tour of their smokers which was amazing as we both work in hospitality so we loved that and the food was unreal!!! Would recommend to anyone.

Thursday night Shared BBQ Platter was excellent!

Excellent food. Good service though the management decided to put on the bill 7.5% tip. I don't mind the tip but to force me to do it is not acceptable for me.

Had the salad. Way too much Caesar salad sauce. Sickly, which Isn't what you'd expect from a salad. 🫤

The atmosphere, staff and most importantly the food is amazing, really varied menu, bacon bites, chicken skewers for starters & brisket, salmon were firm favourites, definitely will be returning 😋 almost forgot! Delicious dessert, lemon meringue waffle & root beer float!!!

Not a huge 'american food' fan (bit meaty sloppy, saucy etc) but really enjoyed this place...would go again👌🏼

Very tasty American style BBQ. The Smokehouse Platter we ordered was delicious and enough for 3 people. As starters, we ordered the Smoky Bourbon Bacon Bites and Magic-Dusted Tater Tots, which turned out great. The service was very nice and polite. Unfortunately, at the end it turned out that a 7.5% tip was added to our bill without our consent. Things like this shouldn't happen with a guaranteed minimum wage. UK is not USA!

Had a really lovely meal for my husbands birthday. Tich took our order and looked after us and he was so lovely and good fun. Our boys enjoyed the little cinema and the outdoor play area, a brilliant place for families.

Such lovley food, and the staff were amazing, told them it was my sons birthday, they made a hat for him and gave him a donunt with cream on a wooden board, will definitely be back

Having been here a few times and loved everything about it, I booked it for my son's birthday. I don't know if the staff had Sunday evening blues but the service was lacking the usual enthusiasm and dropped the ball on many levels this evening. Putting a family group in the bar area with a young baby was very disappointing when I'd stated when booking that we would need room for a pram when booking. The staff were disinterested in creating an upbeat atmosphere and were rude when bringing out mains. Instead of placing drinks and meals with each person we were expected to pass them along to each other, the lack of service lead to me refusing to pay the 7.5% tip on the bill. Unfortunately even though the food was great I doubt we will be returning for future family occasions.

Came here for a quick bite as was staying at a hotel just up the road - the place was packed with a 45 minute wait for a table but the super friendly chap at the front offered me a seat at the kitchen bar and an immediate seat. I’m glad I took this option as I got to see the workings of the kitchen and how crazy hard these people have to work. The food was excellent, the service beyond expectations (I wish I’d got his name to give him a shout out) the atmosphere =buzzing. The shift managers also do a great job, I witnessed how serious they take orders with allergies with them instructing the chefs about each one - which was extremely comforting as I have a food allergy. The menu is great, I always come to a hickory’s when I’m back home from Canada and wish I could transport a branch back over the pond.

Was really excited to come and try hickory’s however the service was quite poor…asked within 30 seconds of sitting down what we would like then didn’t see the waitress again for 20 minutes- too busy socialising with the big groups we became forgotten…ordered an additional drink with mains which was forgotten about and never arrived…different waitress served us food and took away, didn’t see our waitress again until we received the bill. Food was okay but ruined by service unfortunately.

Late tea after a day at Donington Park was superbly delivered with bags of flavour and meat galore!! Ribs were awesome. Beef was melt in the mouth Probs a bit too much to fit it all in for 2 sharing. Liked it a lot and smelt like a smokehouse for about a day afterwards.. lol. We will be back.

I never normally write reviews, but the service I had was really worthy of one. Upon arriving I was warmly greated by enthusiastic and personable hosts. Despite it being a busy shift, chefs Luke and Caleb took the first opportunity to welcome me and continued this throughout the evening. Both are a real asset to Hickory’s, and I hope that their professionalism, hospitality, and the personal touch that they provide with their service is noticed, as it really does make you want to visit again. Thanks Luke and Kaleb, and the team!

Food was cooked well but changed the menu to be the same as every other high street chain/pub removed a lot of the things that made this Restaurant different. Changed the white Alabama sauce to hot honey? Changed the sauce on the corn dogs? Removed the Louisiana tata tots? Everything I wanted to order and that they did well has gone from the menu, don’t change what’s not broken. would say it is too expensive to pay for what I can get in my local pub. Service was great though. Staff always very personable and easy to get on with.

Food superb, service was TERRIBLE! Been three times in total and the service is getting worse, im questioning is it worth ever returning. Main course brought out whilst the starter plates not cleared, drinks brought and a table full of empties left. Its just frustrating. For the first time I've ever ask for the service charge to be removed. The chiefs are totally holding that place up, the food was as always amazing and the cinema and outdoor park is great, but the service staff need a good shake!

Been here a few times now. Food is always good and the business of the restaurant allows for a good vibe. Just be aware that it is quite pricey if you have a big family. However the atmosphere is great and if you have kids, there is loads to do for them. Including a cinema room, outdoor play area and an ice-cream sundae station. The popcorn on arrival is a nice touch too. The frickles are a must!

Never had a bad meal here. It’s getting pricey however the platter selection just has all the best bits!!

Food was amazing! But we were rushed out of there before our plates had even been cleared. We weren’t offered another drink or desserts - we were only there around an hour. I appreciate they were busy but the bill was brought over as soon as we’d finished eating and we actually would have stayed for another cocktail.

First time at a hickory's and horrible service.Had no idea where to go as no one greeted me for 5 minutes. Finally when spotted, asked if.it was my.first time which I said yes and wasn't told anything else. After being showed my seat, I sat for around 20 minutes, not had my order or even my drink taken. I thought I had to order at the till since I hadn't been told but the chef said no, he'd find someone. After another 5 minutes wait, I left. I have a flight today and waiting 25 minutes for not even having my order taken, I was worried to think how long the food would take. Definitely don't come if you if you plan to order anything 😂

Food as always is amazing. But the bar staff really made our evening, Told the member of staff we really like the hard cherry cola drink and thet we'd bought the ingredients to have a go at making it at home. Well, he invited us behind the bar to learn about the measures to create the drink, and checked with his manager before giving us two hard cherry cola glasses and a bottle of IPA to take home....wow, what service if you haven't been, then I highly recommend you visit. The security guy is so friendly aswell, always having a chat with customers.

The staff have been amazing on every visit really friendly and accommodating, the food is great but you may struggle to find something you enjoy if your not a fan of barbecue sauce or burgers. Much better than the one in derby.

The food was good. Those I was with commented that the steak and brisket were especially good.

We came last night as a party of two, having never dined here before we were so excited and the staff seemed just as excited it was our first time ! It was quite a busy Saturday night and the atmosphere was lovely, inviting, you cannot fault the service. We ended up chatting to George for quite a while at the end of our meal and he was an absolute star. Also the bartender was lovely too. We will definitely be coming back again, thank you guys for a lovely evening :)

Went with the family. The staff were amazing, looked after us all so well and especially the children. The food, all though a little pricey I thought, was fab, i had the Smokehouse Platter for one and shared it with my grandson, there is enough for two on there easily. The playground was clean and very popular with all the children. All in all a great experience.

I had a very good authentic experience at Hickory’s Smoke House. I came in looking for some delicious food and they delivered and more. I was seated by the hostess at the chefs table where I could see how everything is cooked and presented and was looked after by Anna-Leigh who was lovely and informative and thanks to Joel for a good recommendation on the unreal chilli cheese fries. I had the Beef brisket on recommendation and it amazing succulent in taste and my knife went through like butter. Furthermore throughly enjoyed my conversation with Mitchel about food and had a brisket taster too. Would recommend for dates and family gatherings!

I've been to hickory's 4/5 times now. I've had 3 exceptional meals and 2 ok meals. I think that it depends on the time when you. Quality of food and service can vary. As it's the only BBQ place in the whole of Nottingham it is rather good. Finally for family's I would say 5 stars. Play area outside and a cinema screen showing kids films.

First time visit for lunch. Not too busy so easy to get a table. Food arrived in a timely manner and what food it is!. A salad, pork and a burger. All 3 of us thought it was wonderful, so tasty and not overfaced. I even got a jar of root beer. Go there, you'll like it.

First time dining here and the service was first class, right from reception, when we were welcomed. The food was very good with generous portions ( a bit too much for me). Service was excellent. Our waitress (Faith) was very knowledgeable about the menu and made ordering very easy. The rateing should be 5 stars but unfortunately I had a whole tray of drinks dropped all over myself. I got soaked through to my socks. The waitress apologised. The clean up took about 20 minutes and food arrived. I did get to speak with the waitress and told her not to worry as it was an accident. Overall 10/10

This was one of the best experiences I have had in a restaurant in a while. The server was super friendly and when he heard that we had 3 visitors from Canada with us, he took us to see the meat smoker and have a tour of the place too. There is a cinema in the restaurant and there is also unlimited popcorn. Will definitely be returning when I am in the area again!

A large group of us went to Hickory’s back in June for a family celebration of my son’s 18th birthday. Our booking was a Thursday evening and unfortunately they could only accommodate 10 of us due to another large booking the same evening. I was able to take decorations, which the staff helped with and took care of the cake in the kitchen. The atmosphere and food was great but what made it really special was the customer service. The staff were absolutely amazing, going above and beyond to make it extra special for the birthday boy. We all had a great time and would absolutely recommend.

Great place to visit if you want that Americana feel and restaurant. All American grub and feasts to eat. Situated off the A610 near J26 M1 in Nuthall it’s relatively easy to find. Large car park out front. I believe you still need to make reservations during busy periods - evenings and weekends. Bar area is near the entrance if you just fancy a drink. Menu offers all the usual American fast eats - burgers, ribs, bbq, steaks, mac n chees, etc. Staff are friendly and efficient. A bit pricey for what you get but worth it. Also offers an in-house cinema for kids!

Great food and service. Atmosphere was busy but staff were always on hand and ready to help. Great gluten free menu, so much choice and very clear information on any may contains. Food wasn't cheap but tasted and presented fabulously. Will definitely be returning in future.

We visited this place for the first time yesterday as it was my partners birthday. I can honestly say the whole experience from start to finish was fantastic due to the amazing staff who went the extra mile to make it very special. I can’t recommend this place enough. Keep up the good work and the enthusiasm good to make peoples dining experience fantastic.

Food is OK for the price, service again was OK for what you pay for. There is a cinema inside and a play area for kids that's well fenced off.

Living just around the corner, I could consider this my local I guess. We've been here about 7 or 8 times now and I just can't quite figure it out... Lots of frills and spills and it's really good with the cinema are and popcorn but the star of the show should be the food. And it's just not. Just took my two lads and I'm sat in the outside area with two full plates of unfinished food and £40 lighter. Mac n cheese was ice cold, first time in my life I think I've sent food back but I had to as it was for my boy, they brought it back out about 30 seconds later slightly less cold. I dunno man, sour taste left.

We ate on a Tuesday night with our grandchildren, who had been before and really wanted to go again. It's done up like an old Southern smokehouse, and speaking as someone who's been travelling to the USA for 30 years, I'd say they've done a good job. The biggest difference tbh was that, despite a warm and chatty welcome from the staff, we waited 15 minutes for our drinks order to be taken, followed by another ten before our food order was taken. Not something that EVER happens in the USA! Having said that, the food was great, very tasty indeed, and made up for that shortcoming. Facilities very good for the kids, with the movie room and a decent play park.

First time me and my husband visited here and it was absolutely fantastic the staff was Bubbly and welcoming, the birthday bib was a nice touch, the service was super quick and the food was outstanding. Definitely can't wait to return and we will be recommending this little gem (our new favourite) to all our friends and family.

Very disappointing, I have waited years before visiting here but we won't be back. On arrivals we were greeted with sticky table, dirty blinds and food on the windowsill. Followed by sticky glasses and Half warm food. The only thing that seemed clean were the toilets, considering everything else this was a real surprise. The place looks amazing we loved the presentation of everything, popcorn was a nice touch and the park and move theatre were amazing, what a shame they have let themselves down. We won't be back...

First time us coming here and we wasn’t disappointed! We have been today for the princess brunch and it was absolutely AMAZING! So much for the kids to do, amazing food and brilliant service. Will 100% be coming back here. You really pulled it out the bag!

Food was lovely fast service free popcorn for kids and harry one of the staff was great came out to us asked if kids wanted more popcorn had lovely chat he told us he is training for the gamston pub that's opening soon will definitely go again

We are Americans and we truly enjoyed the feel for the American BBQ and atmosphere that this place provided. The food was tasty and our children enjoyed the outdoor park. Felt like a slice of home having supper there this evening. The fried pickles were so good. They tasted like a corn dog pickle and the chicken was very good too.

Delicious food and excellent service by all staff we met. It was extremely busy but nothing felt chaotic or rushed. We were asked if there were any celebrations and it was someone’s birthday (not that they wanted a fuss or anything!) and after our main meal staff brought out a little birthday surprise and sang! It was a lovely touch. We were pleasantly stuffed when we left but will be back to try other items. Only problem I had was my little legs on the higher up chairs!

We have been to this Hickory's quite a few times, just myself and my partner. Food and service are always fantastic, but my review is about last Saturday night when my son and daughter came with us. My daughter has quite severe dairy and egg allergies and taking her to somewhere new to eat, is always a bit of an anxious time, as you can appreciate. I spoke to Joe, the assistant manager about a week before our booking and explained my concerns. He explained what they would do when we got there and that helped a lot. We arrived Saturday night and again I explained everything to the waiting staff to make sure they knew. We looked through the menu, but in the end, all my daughter wanted was some chips! When we ordered, they couldn't do enough to offer her something else as well. They could do chicken in a bun, as it was allergen free, but she was happy with her chips! They did give her a bigger plate, but I think we were charged a bit more, which wasn't an issue. I can't say enough about the staff at Hickory's for putting my mind at rest. As far as I'm concerned, they went above and beyond. Whenever we have been before, they are always very busy, but always smiling and always ready to help. The food is always superb (I'm a Texas Brisket fan) and there's never a long wait. It's always very busy in there (car parking spaces are very hard to find), but there's always a nice atmosphere. Thank you again to Hickory's and all the hard working staff.

AVOID! If you want to spend £140 and become ill, this is the place to visit! I was really excited to visit Hickory's in Nottingham after been to the one near Coventry. As a group of three, we ordered a sharing platter for two, plus an additional one for the third person. I shared the platter for two and both my friend and I were severely sick that evening/night. I decided to reach out to Hickory's and was told the Health and Safety Officer would reach out. TBF, she rang at the weekend, left a VM and asked me to return the call (problem was, the number was withheld and no number provided). I decided to call the restaurant again and explained the problem. My details were taken and I heard nothing. I then called 3 weeks later, left details and still nothing. Not only was the food bad, the aftercare was too! I will never return to this restaurant and would not recommend. AVOID!

Bit of a drive to us but most definitely always worth the trip! From start to finish was an incredible evening as always as Hickory’s! Decided to book there for my 35th birthday on Friday with my wife and our friends, we arrived early and had a few drinks(barman even made me a fantastic Vespa that wasn’t on the menu!) when we was taken to our table we was looked after by the lovely Jess, food, service, everything was second to none! Including the incredible menu birthday hat one of the lovely waiting staff made me, honestly can not even describe how amazing the whole team at hickory’s made my birthday and can’t wait to see them again next year! Apologies didn’t get any pics of the food, was too busy enjoying it!

Fantastic food and service from Leon!

Don’t have child facilities if you are going to complain about children using the facilities. My child was told off by a member of staff for going between the cinema and the table. The way we was spoken to I thought the staff member was a customer.
