Hickory's Smokehouse Nuthall in Broxtowe

The New York strip or generally steak on a fire pit is not an easy task to get right with consistently, other competitors after trying it for a while, simply just took it off the menu, but Hickories nailed it. It's one of the best steaks in town. Furthermore the brisket is pretty much a signature dish now. I have been following its flavor evolution since the beginning and they got it to perfection now! When you find a restaurant that is constantly striving to get better, you can always expect something excitingly new.

Fantastic place to eat excellent service and amazing food, went for wife's birthday who is lactose and gluten intolerant they explained the menu pointed out all the key ingredients and which foods contained lactose and gluten, will definitely go back again

Not cheap but the food is fabulous. We had the rack of bourbon ribs and they were amazing. Portions are generous so of you don't eat loads, consider ordering something to share.

To be honest, the food was amazing along with free salty popcorn. The workers were super kind and i would 10 out of 10 recommend coming back. Trust me as I say the food was amazing, but it is a little expensive. The Oklahoma burger was amazing and the chocolate s'mores were even better. Thank you hickory's smokehouse for such an amazing weekend.

It's just okay as far as I'm concerned. The way the waiter came to take our order was strange,coming back and forth to ask us what we wanted without a pad to write it down,very odd and this is the first time I have ever been asked this way. The waiting time for the waiter to arrive at our table was 30 minutes and we were really sick of waiting you know,the place wasn't full. The food did arrive quickly after the order though. However the food was terribly greasy,I could feel and taste the grease on the roof of my mouth,the onion rings and mushrooms were so full of grease it was soaked in it honestly. Plus the saltiness of everything too,way too much saltiness!!! The portion of Brisket was alot smaller than the pictures of it and was only four ordinary slices of it,and not filling at all. And the portion size of the fries in that cup were significantly less than you'd expect especially when you take the greaseproof paper away,you get more at mcdonald's!!! It's only fries,please give more!!! The music is on FAR too loud and you have to shout at each other to get heard. My last gripe is the TAKE of a service fee automatically when you pay your bill,im sorry but this is plain wrong on so many levels,I am not opposed to paying a tip at all and always do actually but the choice will be my own to make because that tip is how I perceived the services and food so to just TAKE it is wrong. When you ask them to take it off your bill they behave stunned and talk loudly to a manager to come over to the till to come and take it away from your bill and other customers can here this,it's as if they now want to embarrass you for asking. For what we spent and all of this to take consideration on then we will not go back,its simply not worth it at all,it's all hype.

Lovely food, friendly staff, very little waiting time for food. If I had to offer negatives, it would be that the bathroom sink had tampons in it (not soiled, but opened and in the sink, wet)

1st visit at my daughter’s insistence. Absolutely loved the American theme running throughout the establishment. Staff very warm, attentive and welcoming throughout our visit. Food was cooked to perfection, the sirloin steak was extremely thick but very tender. Not sure if it’s great value for money but for a once in a while treat for three adults and two children it’s okay. Daughter didn’t like the £10.00 tip added to the bill, we prefer to tip ourselves not have it added to the bill. They took it off at her request but that was the only thing we didn’t like. If you’re going to be charged ten pounds for a tip it would be a courtesy to see this clearly marked on the menu. Definitely would go back again in spite of this as the food, staff and atmosphere were excellent. A tip was given to the young lady who looked after us but that was my choice as I enjoyed the service but it wasn’t £10.00

Had the share platter for 2 and with it costing £65 it was VERY VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING and not worth the price, And to automatically add a tip on the bill before we get it and seeing if I was satisfied is a big NO NO NO we are not in America All the food was either all bone or bland

Been promising ourselves a visit ever since this outlet opened and it was worth the wait for sure. From the welcoming staff and chatty chefs (we sat at the chefs bar) it was a pleasure. We cannot recommend the brisket enough, it was as close to almost melt in your mouth as you'd expect. The lemon waffle for desert was the perfect pallet cleanser afterwards. We'll certainly be paying a visit again. (My wife is colieac and she was more than happy with the choices available)

Absolutely lovely sat at the bar and so glad we did as Luca the chef was so lovely and advised the best light bite as well as brisket. Really lovely guy to chat too whilst he worked, high praise for the chefs and the waiting staff all were accommodating and lovely

This review has taken some time, but we have to provide some feedback for our visit as we had an amazing time! First of all it was a Friday evening so extremely busy, but we were promptly seated to our booking table. All of the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The food is incredible and whilst it may be slightly on the pricier side, it’s made up by having truly tasty and well presented food. We just want to say a massive thank you to Ni who went above and beyond to ensure that myself and our friends enjoyed our evening! We are a group of mums who met at a baby group and this was our first meal out together since having our babies, who are now toddlers! She made it so special and made us a little to go bag full of treats and a little medal. We want to say thank you and we appreciate you!

Everything is just so delicious. The kind of place you will keep going back to until you've had everything on the menu. Outside seating is nice and it's a good place for kids to.

Food pretty good in line with what you would expect. I don’t like you ask for 4 large cokes and the glasses are literally full to the brim with ice. We’re buying expensive coke not frozen water. They made a point of next order asking whether i wanted ice or not, i replied just 2-3 pieces - shouldn’t that be standard if you’re giving value? Also, absolutely hated that there was no hand wash in the dispenser in the gents toilet. I told a member of staff but went in over an hour later when leaving and it’s still empty. My elderly father went in and there was no toilet paper in the cubicles either. Come on , this is a restaurant cleanliness should be at the top of your agenda, surely this basic thing should be checked regularly by staff anyway and why aren’t staff sorting it went informed ?! Do your staff use the same toilets? I shudder to think.

I looked forward to trying this based on all the good reviews but was sadly disappointed. On the plus side, the theme is immersive, and the children's cinema room is a good idea which my kids loved. But the food quality was pretty low- it's just glorified fast food chain food, definitely not worth the money. I wouldn't return based on this. Also the service was slow and I always begrudge it when tips are added automatically. My advice is spend your money on an independent pub with better quality food.

Brilliant service from start to finish. Brought us popcorn and water straight away, which was a lovely touch, as you browse the super cool newspaper menu! Drinks are tasty and the food is divine! We ordered a platter for two, easily could have fed a third person. The S'mores are awesome especially because you get to toast the marshmallow yourself. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. They have a great kids area and also a cinema for the kids, never seen that I'm a restaurant before, such a brilliant idea! We will be back very very soon!

Ate here on Thursday, server Ethan was great. He had a lovely manner, was polite and very warm. Felt welcomed. Food was good, no complaints.

Been here several times and aways had the beef rib as it was so nice. I went for the 20 oz brisket this time. I was So disappointed I did, 4 slices of brisket which measures, Length 5 inch. Width 2 inch. Finally 1/4 inch thick. There was no way this was a 20 oz portion of brisket. Don't get me wrong, it was really nice but let down by the portion size. I know it will shrink with the long smoking process used. But, to advertise it as 20 oz on the menu, and get less than 12 oz on the plate is a bit of a no no. Also no one came over to see if everything was okay with the meal. Very disappointed 😞 UPDATE... I was contacted by Hickory's and they advised that a member of the management team will contact me to discuss this further. I'm still waiting a week later and had to email again.

Hickory's Smokehouse has amazing barbecue food. We shared the Smokehouse platter and the brisket was excellent along with all the other meat Everything was very tender. The cornbread was also wonderful.

Been to hickory’s nuttall approx 8 times and always had a fantastic experience however I haven’t been in 6 months. Experience was awful. Most concerning thing was the water jugs they give you. We drank the whole bottle and as we were waiting for the receipt we notice some weird stains all in the top of the bottle. On further inspection the whole of the top of the bottle was COVERED in some coloured grime. Kind of like it hadn’t been washed in months. I used a napkin and wiped the top of the bottle and the grime was RED, kind of like some sort of bacteria. Really concerning and even more of a worry as I personally suffer with health issues. Mentioned this to the manager who was robotically polite but said ‘it looks like lipstick’ it actually felt like a hint that it wasn’t bacteria and pointed it back to me! This was bacteria growing INSIDE of the bottle. Dirty grime. Manager wasn’t bothered. After this the lady serving was also rude Drinks didn’t arrive until after the food came out and food was average Really disappointing as have always been a huge fan of hickory’s. Never one to write reviews but I felt strongly about this bad experience and lack of an apology by the manager when we had been served water that clearly had growing bacteria on the inside! :(

Easily accessible location at Mornington Crescent at Nuthall with plenty of parking available. The place is sprawling with plenty of dining space. The ambience is great with nice music - not overpowering. The staff were friendly, and we were attended to promptly. The menu is very different and the food was excellent. However, after the food was served, we really struggled to get hold of any staff members when we needed more cutlery, water, dessert menu, etc. We also had to wait a while for the bill and go across to find someone. Although it was beyond 10pm, there were still plenty of customers around. Had it not been for this blip, this would have been a 5* review.

Disapointing! Hads a platter for 2 Smallest chicken wings ive ever seen and incinerated befor being coated in sauce. The only meat the ribs had on them was the bit holding them together. The other meat portions were small and some were fatty. God knows what the super processed muffin was doing on the plate? The girls had brisket subs , both were disapointed in the size of them and the amount of meat on them. The only thing we rated was a southern fried chicken starter we shared which was very tender. Our bill was 180 quid 90 to 100 would have been reasonable and fair for what we had. Wont be recommending to anyone.

Me and my family adore Hickory's. We come fairly often and have come for big family events. The free popcorn, the cinema room, outdoor play area and service are all incredible touches. Plus, their food is consistently gorgeous.

Had the platter for 1. It was exceptional, I also had a couple of beers on tap. The hickory’s beer was particularly nice.

It was packed out, very noisy but what can you expect with a popular establishment. Customer service was excellent. Food tasty and lots of meat on the plate. Could have done with more fries 🍟. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

The atmosphere inside is like stepping into a different country. It's obvious that a lot of work has gone into making the impression of not being in England anymore. It's bright and warm inside. The food was fantastic, there is a huge range to choose from, and all of it is delicious. I loved the garlic pretzel bites!! Each of the staff that we encountered were all lovely and sweet. Thank you to Yuliia and the other staff that took care of us while we visited. We will definitely be back as Hickory's is definitely worth the drive out to visit.

Great place, found it by accident and stopped in for a drink, liked it a lot so booked for dinner following day. Food was excellent, ours portion sizes were ideal. Staff were very friendly and although it was quite busy our meals came out in good time. If you're visiting the area (as we were) I'd highly recommend it.

Such a welcoming atmosphere. You wait to be seated and are greeted with popcorn and a menu, with it being table service too. Drinks are really nice and refreshing. The food was amazing. It’s nice to find somewhere that caters for gluten free, but this just tops it off, the amount of choice is really good. I will definitely be returning.

This restaurant used be excellent, now mediocre at best. We arrived and stood at the desk for a while, a waiter eventually took us over to our table. The table we were assigned was very close to the kitchen area and too noisy and hot. We asked to be moved and were moved to a quieter, cooler table. We sat for 30 mins and we not offered a drink. We asked for someone to serve us and a we ordered drinks and food. The two waiters were very apologetic. The manager Abbey spoke to us and again was very apologetic and advised drinks and sides would be free of charge. The food arrived and although not poor and not great either. The fries and burger was not particularly warm. The vegetables with the chicken fajitas were watery. Despite the issues we experienced a £2.74 charge was added to the final bill which we felt was a little brazen. Being such a small amount of money we did not mention it and paid the bill. We reached out to the restaurant on the hello@hickorysnuthall.co.uk to feedback and received a response but then no follow up.

Such nostalgia here, and the food is freaking amazing. Bit more on the sweet side than smokey, but I wasn't about to complain. Root beer float... Haven't had a decent one in the UK until this one. Pulled pork was to die for. I had a platter with most things except brisket, and it was all terrific.

2nd visit. Dad's bday. The kids loved it too. Only found the kids cinema room this time didn't know it was there on our first visit. Food again was top quality. The waiter even sang happy birthday for dad and presented him with a bday donut 🍩 😆. Will be going back again, excellent 👌

Best service you'll get from a restaurant

Excellent service and great food! We visited tonight for my husband’s birthday meal with the family - I’d mentioned this in my booking and we were greeted by a friendly and professional front of house person who produced birthday stickers :) Our waitress, Lauren was fabulous. None of us can remember a time where we’ve had such good service in the UK. This is a great quality and I’d recommend Hickories based on this alone. The food however surpassed my expectations. I had the pulled pork and beans - incredible! Everyone was very happy. Service and atmosphere like this is rare. Hickories made my husband’s birthday meal special and really made us all smile - thank you so much ☺️

Wow everyone well me and my partner been trying to arrange to go here for a long time and we made it last night with our two sons and wow wee was it worth the wait , the beef brisket is the most delicious I’ve ever tasted , I had the brisket sub with the amazing pot of gravy and it all just melted in your mouth it is honestly in my opinion out of this world and definitely a must must must to try the bbq food is all incredibly tasty , the staff are all so full of happiness and just want to help you in anyway they can 100% on their game we was all so impressed with the service they are a great bunch of workers and they should be proud of themselves because we loved it and I wish I could go again tonight haha

The food is really good. Had the platter... £34 and a bit of everything... Unless you have a big appetite it's food for 2 people. The staff were great. The only downside is it's a bit noisy but I'm old and grumpy. Definitely a place for families!

Had a lovely lunch out on Sunday 9th March. Sat outside in the sun. We was well looked after. Jack served us. And was lovely, friendly and helpful. They was good at accommodating my friend who is dairy and nut intolerant. And helped guide her to a meal she could have. And even brought out some brisket all of us could try. Even the dog was happy with all the food. Overall great service. Great food. Recommended to everyone. Will definitely come again.

Visited here last Saturday around 1pm. There was 2 girls who served me hulia and Courtney. Both of them were very polite and friendly👍🏻.I’m assuming one of them was on a trial shift but she was great! Food was delicious atmosphere was very good! visited hickory’s around 12:30pm, my server was two girls, one of them looked like they were fairly new, both of the girls were lovely and polite i hope to be visited again very soon and i really hope to see the girl on the trial shift working there again. Overall food was lovely, atmosphere was chill however toilets were a bit grubby but would definitely come back😁😁

The atmosphere here is unmatched. Such a fun and vibrant place to eat. The staff were incredible, been here a couple times and it has always been an amazing experience. The food is really tasty and comes in big portions, I never worried about what I'd order I knew I'd get a good meal! Highly recommended.

Awful had food hear earlier The food was just about ok but the service really wasn't great Waited over 45 minutes for drinks to arrive ( had to ask were they were) Starters didn't come out together and the rest of the meal just felt rushed! This is the third time I have eaten hear and it wasn't much better last time either I remember fetching my own drink from the bar as the drinks ordered at the table had been forgotten about I won't be eating hear again

The food is good. The prices are very affordable. There's lots of parking. A great place to come for a casual relaxed dining experience. It's very family friendly, with a cinema and a playground for younger children. I strongly recommend trying the platter.

I absolutely love Hickory’s. It’s my type of go to food and the Nuthall one is always a vibe. Love it so much. Had the platter for 2 this time and everything was amazing. Even the coleslaw was the best I’ve had! 10/10 I also had a coke float (not on menu) and the chocolate fudge cake, unreal!

Lovely drinks & great service . Found the food a bit dry but still enjoyable. Also the limited selection of sauces was a downer , shocked that a bbq restaurant didn't have any bbq sauce.

I had brisket and when I went a few months ago I had 4 nice slices this time I had 2 slices cut in half service awful finished the dinner asked for a pudding and had to ask twice at one stage he actually came with the bill and not finished ordered a cookie desert the cookies were impossible to break with the spoon and on top of all that start time 16:30 finish time 18:38 to long saw bottom from the chair

Wow. Absolutely OUTSTANDING experience! Mary the manager was our server and she was genuinely so so amazing. She went above and beyond in every single aspect, absolutely cannot fault her so thank you for making our experience Mary! As for the food, again absolutely incredible. I would argue one of the best meals I have ever had and very reasonably priced for the quality and portion size. My only complaint is that we don’t live closer to one!! If you are considering visiting, don’t hesitate, you won’t regret it!!

Excellent food in a very Americana setting.

Must be out 8th visit and the 10 of us went for my wives birthday. Firstly I would like to say the food was fantastic as always, but the service was really poor. 1. The service wasn't poor due to actions, but simple due to lack or staff or lack of communication. I had to get up every time to ask for cutlery, drinks, more drinks, food order etc as no one came to the table. Might be lack of staff. 2. When the food was bought for the person next to me (fajitas), the salsa was dropped that exploded all over the table and covered me and my cream T shirt. Apart from another salsa and a wet wipe this wasn't remotely acknowledged by the staff at all. I feel slightly aggeaved, especially when I paid a £20 tip (I know I'm an idiot....but when they add it on you do feel an tight arse asking to take it off and that's why they do it), and after quickly washing my top it's stained and not within saving, so my new £50 t shirt is ruined. So overall poor customer service. Even a round of drinks for the adults or a small discount would have been nice.

None of the five “Hickory’s values” was observed during our visit. Service was slow and uninterested, waitress obviously wanted to be anywhere else, in the end so did we, so cut short the meal to go elsewhere. We did raise this with the manager, who was also not interested. Not worth my time or money.

Great bbq /smokehouse place. Good food and great staff. Was looked after from start to finish. Extensive food and drink menu. Good range and the place seems to always be very busy so it tells you everything you need to know. Would recommend and will visit again for sure.

A little bit of the "Deep South" in Nuthall. A good restaurant serving good food, including veggie options. Very pleasant and helpful staff. My only criticism is, smokehouse meat normally falls off the bone, although very tasty, here it didn't. 10/10 to the staff.

Been to Hickory's Nuthall a fair few times, more so when it first opened and less so more recently due to the pricing getting too expensive for us. Visited for my daughter's Birthday, so only going for a treat nowadays and no longer order myself a drink or sides due to their increased cost. A weekday late lunchtime we had dinner. Service ok but not worth the tip on this occasion, restaurant untidy too considering it was virtually empty food on floor, table sticky. My daughter's meal was great, which was good for her Birthday, but my roast chicken was over cooked, tough and so dry I couldn't eat it all as I simply couldn't swallow it and for £20 I felt quite upset I'd wasted my money. My daughter enjoyed her meal, but this really put me off. I should have said something about my meal at the time but didn't want to spoil her meal and I feel quite uncomfortable complaining. A shame, we used to visit a lot when it opened, and tried sides, the drinks, different meals, etc but just not worth the price and having a poor meal again.

We booked to come with friends, as a late Xmas get-together - 6 adults and 6 kids. There was a short delay for our table, which ran to about 10mins past our booked time - not the end of the world. We were taken to our table, seated, and asked for drinks orders - we weren't ready as we'd literally just sat down. The server was pleasant, but never came back to take drinks orders, he just came back 20mins later to take our food orders. I ordered the half-chicken, which looked appetising enough when it arrived; in reality it was so dry I could barely swallow it, and full of tiny pieces of bone. The only edible part was the leg, which was alright. I was left genuinely baffled, how is it so dry if it's cooked low and slow!? I've never had chicken that dry, ever. I raised the problem with the young server who asked if everything was okay, to be met with "I'm sorry about that". It's not really acceptable when you're paying £20 for a main. I was massively underwhelmed! The whole experience was just frustrating, exacerbated by the fact we were there for over 2 and a half hours! I appreciate staff are busy, but that length of time is pretty ridiculous for a meal experience; kids were getting frustrated and couldn't sit still for any longer, which started to frustrate the adults as well. I know costs are rising across the sector, but food prices are generally steep for what you get. The experience we had before this was also underwhelming, so our twice yearly tradition of coming here is now sadly at an end.
