Hexham Hospital Cafe in Northumberland

Had surgery in podiatry department on 11th October. Received first class treatment from all nurses and surgeon. Made you feel at ease as soon as entering reception. Did lots of checks and verification of patient details even when in theatre. Walking into the hospital is like walking into an hotel. Bright and cheerful. Was given lots of info at pre and post op and the opportunity to ask questions in a relaxed manner.

I took my partner to the UTC yesterday evening. From walking in to leaving took 50 minutes! The speed and efficiency was amazing. All the staff were amazing including x-ray staff. Hexham UTC will definitely be my first port of call for minor injuries.

She was exceptionally unprofessional, made the experience significantly more stressful and is a stain on this otherwise great hospital. The nurse and doctor I saw were exceptional, polite, efficient and made me feel at ease.

On holiday and my son needed an x-ray following a footballing injury. In-and-out in under 40 minutes!! Very clean and modern hospital. Caring and attentive staff. Thank you!

We were on holiday, my 87 year old dad’s leg was extremely sore and broke out into an ulcer. I rang a local GP who recommended Urgent Care Walk In at Hexham Hospital. We arrived and within 5 minutes of waiting we were seen by a lovely nurse, she dressed dad’s leg and gave him course of antibiotics. All the people we came into contact with were helpful and kind. Thank you so much to the lovely nurse who treated dad, you all do an amazing job and we would be lost without you.

Anne Towns here, I attended Hexham hospital last week for a colonoscopy and I have to say I was treated with total respect and I also have to mention the level of dignity I was offered was second to none, as an older lady I was very much in anticipation of how my procedure would go but I was totally treated with utter respect and dignity they couldn't have been any more attentive, thank you to everyone.

Lovely food excellent staff and not expensive. Food is always hot and the staff are very helpful. There is a choice of meals at lunchtime and there are a selection of sandwiches salads and fruit.

I will be submitting a formal complaint to the Parliamentary & Health Service Ombudsman about the patient care provided by Hexham General Hospital.

I would like to thank everyone on ward 3 for the care I received on Saturday 13th April.I had my hip replacment op there from Mr pethram to all the staff in theatre to everyone on the ward .I would like to thank you all for the care I received and to say you all do an amazing job

A big shout out to the urgent care centre in Corbridge where I was assessed promptly and efficiently yesterday. The Dr on duty had a great 'bedside manner' was thorough and reassuring. All the staff were working hard to support all the patients (there was much I observed) and were very efficient and effective. Even the carparking costs were readonable. I used to work for the NHS but I'm now retired. If I was still working, I'd apply in a heartbeat to work for this Trust, you should be very proud all of you that work there. Thank you so much for your hard work and care x

It was an outpatient visit when we were seen immediately. We were treated with courtesy and kindness. A visit which we’d not looked forward was most pleasant and reassuring.

I went to change a appointment today and the lady on the desk went out of her way to help me. Fantastic service.

Would like to thank the staff at Hexham urgent care unit at Hexham hospital for the outstanding care I received on Wednesday. Slipped and fell ont wet grass and broke my ankle. I was told what was happening every step of the way, in, treated and discharged within the hour and follow up details provided. Well done Hexham and thank you.

You know you're in the right place when they ask you (by letter) to visit a service after an appointment you had somewhere else and when you get to said service they don't even ask your name and tell you to go home without checking medical notes. Care at its best???? I don't think so...

Cannot fault this hospital. In today for wrist surgery as a day patient. Everyone went out of their way for us patients today. Very chatty, very attentive and friendly. 20/10 for staff. A very BIG THANKYOU 🥰 XXX

Had minor surgery here. I cannot speak highly enough of the level of care I received and friendly staff. Everything was explained in great detail and they could simply not do enough for you. Absolutely first class.

Wouldnt waste your time going here they are useless , my daughter keeps toppling and nearly passing out she has a 5 month old baby to look after and when i took her to hexham hospital walk in centre she was told to go and see a gp which isnt open until monday i may add because they havent got the resources . Never heard anything so pathetic

I received day case surgical treatment at this hospital on 23rd Jume 2023. I cannot recommend the facility highly enough. The fabric of the building is clean and welcoming- which filled me with confidence and the whole team were kind, considerate and very professional . Thank you.

The urgent care team at hexham today were incredible. I arrived with a cow related head injury and they were very thorough, caring and attended to me quickly. Can't thank the nursing team enough for there kind bed side manner and thorough examination!

I was asked by nurse why I was not at A and E, I had a tight chest very distressed and had been before and Dr said to come back if I needed help and said so again before I left very kindly. Not impressed with nurse saying that. My daughter is a staff nurse and would never take that attitude. It’s supposed to be our NHS and people should remember that.

I had a full knee replacement done here on 9th December 2021, I was on Ward 3. I must congratulate and thank all of the hospital staff. A truly remarkable friendly and professional team. On holiday in the area and developed a tooth abscess which has gone into my sinuses and is now really painful. No availability to get an appointment with any local dentists and I was recommended to head down to emergency care at the Hexham General. I was in, diagnosed, treated and given antibiotics within 20 minutes. Staff were kind and professional. Thank you for helping me so quickly and efficiently.

Had 2 MRI's done here and found hospital clean and modern. Staff were friendly and professional. Superb

Despite my visit being for the most harrowing of reasons, Hexham General is a hospital I would reccommend for those needing treatment, the staff are truly warm and compassionate, the wards and ward rooms are neat, tidy, clean and really well laid out. I'd like to thank all the staff there for looking after my Grandmother so beautifully in her last days and hours, to the point where someone had laid a flower on the pillow by her head when I went in to say my goodbyes this morning.

Just home from here having had a left total hip replacement on ward 3. All staff from consultant, nurses and housekeeper so very dedicated, professional. Single ensuite rooms very pleasant. Cannot recomend the hospital enough, just great.

Having recently spent an overnight in ward 3, I have nothing but praise and admiration for the staff working tirelessly for our benefit. Staff from the surgeons down to porters were professional but more importantly from a patient's point of view kind and caring. I can not find a negative comment about anything or anybody I came in contact with. THANK YOU WARD 3 ,THANK YOU NHS.

This was my forth stay in at Hexham hospital and once again the staff on ward 3 were terrific. Had both knees done a couple of years back and last year got my first hip done. Last week went into Hexham to get my second hip done and once again the staff were great. Thank you all.

I cannot praise Hexham Hospital highly enough, particularly the staff on Ward 3. I had a total hip replacement on 20/11/20 and everyone put me at ease, were caring, kind and professional. Nothing was a problem for them, I had to stay in a couple of days and with no visitors due to Covid was worried how I would manage but they made it easy. From the surgeon, Mr Petharam, the staff in theatre to all the nurses, ancillary staff and physios a huge thank you. The food was good too!

Just had a total hip replacement at Hexham general. I live in Cumbria and journey over was worth every mile. I have complete trust in the team here. Their attitude towards their patients is second to none. I felt like a patient who was being cared for (excellently) not just a number in a bed. Thank you to all the team on Ward 3. It may have been another Day/ Night at work for you but it was a nerve wracking experience for me. One that was made much much easier with thanks to your care and patients towards me. Thank you.

Very modern style hospital with a wide range of departments. All modern open plan design, ample parking available. Burnbrae Doctors surgery attached to the hospital and Lloyds Pharmacy located within East Entrance. Open plan Cafe and vending machines are also located here and offer a wide choice at a reasonable price.

This is a lovely clean and modern hospital, and the staff are wonderful.

In my experience - very good - friendly - not like a big-city hospital. Parking is cheap and plentiful. I spent weeks in Hexham hospital after a stroke - then for various reasons I then spent a couple of weeks up in the hospital at Alnwick - which is by comparison a trip back to the dark ages. Hexham Hospital is modern and with a great atmosphere. A shame they don't have the equipment that the larger hospitals have - NMR for example. For some serious conditions it is still necessary to go to the RVI and other big-city locations.

Just had an overnight stay in Ward 3 for a routine op. and have to say it was 5 star all the way. From the organisation, the cleanliness, the facilities, the food and most importantly - the staff.

Whenever I have been here the service is quick and excellent. Why can other hospitals not be like this ?

Hello had a total hip replacement arrived at the ward .got booked in and was first on list every thing went well ,was on a Zimmer for a few steps ,then was using walking sticks for a short walk ,then rested for an hour ,back on feet shortly after , taken to try the stairs was no problem was discharged same day ,in hospital for a total of eleven hours never looked back Exellent service

I had a hospital appointment and visited café for lunch afterwards. I had soup and a sandwich, both delicious. Staff were lovely and very helpful. I would recommend a visit.

I attended the Urgent Care Centre at Hexham Hospital as I needed a Warfarin prescription while on holiday away from the usual Warfarin clinic where I live. As a precaution, the friendly nurse took my blood pressure and carried out an INR test which was normal. I expected to simply be given a written prescription to take to a chemist myself, but to my surprise, the nurse brought me the medication I needed from their own pharmacy. I was out of the hospital inside of twenty minutes and am very grateful for the efficiency, cleanliness and staff of this lovely, modern hospital! Thank you so much.

I came in as a day case but ended up having to stay in. The staff on ward 7 were amazing and so lovely from start to finish.

Best hospital I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to a few in my time unfortunately. All the medical staff have been amazing and I’ve been through multiple departments.

As many others have written, my experience with Hexham hospital was also brilliant. Very efficient without losing the human touch. Thank you to everyone.

Yes, I know it is a hospital cafe, butt of many jokes and often not even considered rating but this cafe is more than just worth a mention as it has exceptional service, food cooked in small batches to ensure freshness and an attention to detail that eludes many establishments with far greater pretensions. Particular highlights are the breakfasts especially the bacon sandwiches which can be dipped in plum tomato juice. The bread is local and the prices exceptional value.

Had a gall bladder removal yesterday and the staff were absolutely brilliant from the surgeon ,nurses ,cleaners and porter every single one of them were great. Really made the surgery as comfortable and friendly as possible .first class thank you all . Tony

No one ever enjoys a trip to a hospital, but I had to use A & E recently and all the staff were very courteous and caring. Thank you

I had a procedure today that I was really frightened and nervous about . It was in the day unit. The girls that dealt with me could not have been kinder. I seen a lady called Anne ( I hope I got that right she's been to Mexico ) at my previous assessment. I passed my thought concerns terror on to her she was wonderful . In a kind and funny way not a clinical way. She had the knack of reading me . I thought the way she dealt with me was anaziam, kind ,funny ,sympathetic and just what I needed , like a friend. On the day if the procedure today. She met me at check in and even remembered me I feel so much better seeing her. Once inside gowned up etc. She again was like a friend. Then I went into the theatre. Pam done my procedure. She was just a young lady and so kind and thoughtful in there was also I want to say lily I hope that's right and another lady. To be honest it felt a bit like a prosecco day .It was light hearted, funny, easy , they even got me to relax. I cannot thank themenought. They explained what was going on a way that I understood. Almost like a show lol. The knack of reading how people are ,and how to treat them in s way that you feel amongst friends is indeed a talent. The trust should be so proud of these 4 ladies ,and all the rest of thier staff, but for me today in my opinion and my little embarrassing operation, these 4 were wonderful. I cannot praise them enough. Thanks again I hope you've all gotten over my little nmeltdow. To the management give these girls a big slap on the back and a day off. Thier manner and ability to put a wreck like me at ease is outstanding. Thankyou all

I've probably been in and visited all the hospitals in Northumberland at one time or another. This is far and away the best of them all. I cannot think of one negative thing to say about it. It's spacious and clean, modern and up to date. The receptionists are intelligent and alert and are very pleasant and amenable. All the nurses I've seen have been top class, with wonderful caring skills, and so have the doctors, specialists and surgeons. The toilets are the best you'll find anywhere, and are very clean with all the modern facilities. There's an excellent canteen that has a wide range of snacks, meals and beverages at very reasonable prices with good tables and chairs surrounding it. There always seems to be more than enough space for parking as well.

Excellent care and a big thank you to the day care receptionist, nurses , phlebotomist anaesthetist and consultant. One little thing , it would be really nice if the consultant comes and sees their patient after surgery .

We would like to Thank everyone involved in the preparation for my husband's Hip replacement operation. We received 1st class service at every appointment he had.

In for THR on monday 29th jan, all staff in ward 3 were excellent and very helpful, gave a more personel experience to my visit, got me home on tue 30th with everthing i needed.. Many thanks G

An outstanding A&E facility with courteous attentive staff who looked after my daughter on two occasions. We were seen quickly and the staff in all departments were great. Hexham is very fortunate to have this Hospital.

I have used this hospital several times for small and major events. On each occasion i was very impressed by the professionalism and friendly respected way in which i was treated. Long live the NHS.

A nice surprise for an NHS hospital in that it resembles a hotel entrance. Its a bit over designed exterior wise. Its lost its a&e department so there's nothing between here and Carlisle. Emergencys are taken 25 miles to cramlington ( privatization By the back door? ) staff were lovely. The NHS still suffers from a sort of uniform approach of the 1940s when it was formed often this seems out of touch with individual patent choice in the 21st century. Many hospitals are just too stressful to be poorly in trapped with other patients with lights on all night when you'd rather be alone. but hexhams was different or the staff made it less difficult than elsewhere. Wonderful really.

Excellent in every respect! My minor injury of a 2 and a half inch splinter embedded in my thigh was dealt with promptly and totally professionally by all the staff, especially Dr Ali with his wonderful sense of humour! Thank you.

ward 3 - nicest bunch of people in the world. Nothing was to much trouble and my stay was only 36 hours for total knee replacement. Treated like royalty and the knee is getting better by the day.

No he probado muchas cosas, pero sus patatas fritas y salsa de curry son excelentes. El curry es como el de una pizzería china, pero con un poco más calor. la última vez no había salsa curry, así que tuve la dhal negro chole lentejas con patatas fritas; fue extremadamente bueno. Mi esposa a menudo tiene su sopa (estamos ambas verduras) y siempre está satisfecho con él. Las comidas son, por lo que sé, preparada desde cero en la cocina justo detrás. To the Staff of the Day Treatment and Colonoscopy Dept. I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff with whom I have had contact over the past 6 months. I have been treated with respect and kindness,from the courteous greeting by receptionists on my first arrival in Sept. right through to the care and skill of the surgical and nursing staff throughout two medical procedures. The concern and follow-up telephone call today was also appreciated. The need for hospital treatment,however routine it may seem to the staff, can create an anxious time and the patient can feel very vulnerable, but the assurance I was given and professional way in which I was treated throughout, has left me feeling confident about the outcome and positive about the next proposed procedure. The hospital is clean and calm and a tribute to the NHS at its very best and we feeI privileged to live in the area it serves. I thank sincerely all those who have in any way contributed to my experience.
