I found the dishes alternated between bland (the carrot thing) and over-spiced (the miso aubergine dish and another dish I can't find the name of. We ordered "Smoked almonds, cashews + peanuts" and got a small bowl of very ordinary peanuts. There might have been one cashew that slipped my attention but there were definitely no almonds.

Brilliant plant based cuisine with truly original approach to vegetarian flavours, and incredibly kind service. Definitely new favourite place in Edinburgh.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Amazing food, quiet atmosphere and lovely staff. You could tell the food and flavour combinations have been well thought of. Highly recommend the butterbean houmous and haggis. My only regret: to not have been sooner!

Had an absolutely wonderful meal at Hendersons - couldn't fault it from start to finish. Staff were extremely friendly, mocktails were divine, and the food was just delicious. The dark chocolate tartlet was especially amazing. One of the best meals we've ever had.

Everything in this restaurant was perfect: I walked in without a reservation and they immediately found a table for me, even though the place was packed. The service was amazing, everyone was extremely nice and tried to make conversation, which I really appreciated! Eating alone at a restaurant can be daunting sometimes, but I felt welcomed and "wanted" at this Hendersons. I got the veggie Haggis and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my entire life! The olives, Sourdough Bread and butter were also a very nice entrée. Overall, I would definitely go back, but the menu was definitely a bit pricy! For those two plates I spent 25£ (with no drinks, just tap water)

Varied menu, the place is completely vegetarian and practically everything can be made vegan. The food is good, we both had haggis but in two different dishes: a kind of pie and croquettes, both good even if the pie was slightly spicy, be careful if you don't tolerate this taste too much. For the rest, the place has a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere and the service was impeccable. A special mention for the dessert, we had the apple tart and it was truly amazing. If we were to go back to Edinburgh we would definitely go back!

This was our first time at Hendersons - we received a really warm welcome, plenty of time to go through the menu. My son had the haggis and I the Cullen Skink, beautiful, tasty, and very happy to recommend

We had a mid-week dinner here and it was such a nice change to eat out and feel like it was a genuinely healthy experience too. The food was so delicious, wonderful service, great value and very lovely atmosphere. We will be back for sure.

Amazing veggie/vegan food across the board - the vegan Cullen Skink was a real highlight! Many non-vegan dishes have an option for vegan version too. Incredibly friendly and attentive staff as well.

Exceptional fresh and creative vegetarian food! Veggie haggis croquettes were the stand out for us, as well as delicious mocktail/non alcoholic drinks offerings. Dessert felt like a bit of an after thought, but I can take that given the level of delicious that the rest of the food was. I am dairy free so couldn't order what I would assume is the best dessert item - tiramisu. Staff were friendy, knowledgable and accommodating. All of the toilets are down a flight of stairs so unsure how accessible the whole restaurant is.

it was so lovely! tasty food, lovely staff and great ambience. i had the lunch deal which was a sandwich + soup for £10 - was amazing and totally worth the price. I’ve been here now around 4 times and the only thing that’s not great is that the service isn’t very quick. If you don’t mind waiting it’s good :) They also add on a service charge to your bill automatically (they do say it’s optional) which isn’t my favourite but it’s not compulsory!

Amazing food and great atmosphere. Every time I visit I’m reminded of the attention to detail by their staff. From the amazing dishes to the great table service, I return again and again because of the care that goes into this place and the great dining experience. Thanks for another perfect meal!

Lovely food with great service!

Lovely staff and excellent food - we were there on a Friday night and our only complaint was that it was quite noisy and we had trouble hearing each other (there were 4 of us). However, that wouldn't deter us from returning.

Great staff who are very kind and caring, taking time to explain the different options/ menu and recommendations. This was equally matched with the menu itself, would highly recommend to anyone that is catered towards wanting to try something new and tasty.

Three dining areas: as you come in with high table and two separate dining areas. The area in front of the windows was nicer. Dried scrubs on the ceiling and also on the wall with upfront Wood tables with wood chairs Focus lighting coming from the ceiling shubbery and the end mirror A lot of wood with being colour pain with plant son the window ledge Nice table in front of the window for people watching Nice chill music Figaro was ok, a tad bit too sweet but made better with a touch of water to blend the sweetness in Good looking dish- one piece which is somewhat pricy Sour and sweet Crispy tostada with what looks like mole red cabbage Picked pineapple and jackfruit was sweet but void of substantial taste. The haggis croquettes was more generous with three piece - tasted more like a nut croquette rather than haggis It was nice but would have been better if there was no association with haggis or tying to pretend that it was a replacement for haggis Mustard sauce was ok, somewhat overpowering and could have been something more subtle 12.5 % service charge option but not reflective of service

Went in July 2024 and can’t stop thinking about it, so came here to finally leave a review. Revisit is imperative; easily the best restaurant I’ve ever been to, and the full veggie philosophy is the cherry on top!

Girlfriend has a lot of intolerances and needs to follow a low fodmap diet due to it, it’s often met with a lot of issues from places but Hendersons has provided the most caring and professional service surrounding this we have ever experienced not to mention the food was simply divine. Thank you and we will be back many more times in the future

Great food and staff were really friendly.

A very good looking restaurant, but the food was lackluster. The dishes are presented beautifully, but the menu names are misleading and seem to be designed to make you think you're having some kind of vegetarian equivalent of a meat dish. Ceviche broccoli? It had nothing to do with ceviche at all, it was a chunky raw broccoli dish (perfectly fine in taste, but why call it something it isn't?). Vegetarian haggis croquettes? The 'haggis' had no taste or texture in association with haggis whatsoever. This isn't because it's vegetarian as there are some delicious and very convincing vegetarian haggis out there, but this dish was nothing to do with haggis at all. Why not just call it croquettes and leave the word haggis out? All came across as a bit of a marketing gimmick, when it really doesn't need to. The cocktails were delicious (and at last were what they were labelled as!).

What a gem! We absolutely loved the food, service and the restaurant itself. We had the vegan Haggis, the absolute perfect Biscoff Cheesecake, a wonderful Tarte Tatin and some beautiful appetizer and we were stunned by how amazing everything was. We'll def come back when visiting Edinburgh again!

I came here for my birthday and had the best time. The vegan haggis was incredible, and the biscoff cheesecake was the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. Incredible food with such lovely service. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Edinburgh!

This is my favorite restaurant in Scotland! The food is always delicious and the people who work at Henderson’s are always very friendly.

Dined here a few times over the last 2 years and every visit has been a pleasure. Management and servers have always been delightful and professional. Menu is creative and of high quality. Setting also has its own charm and artistic flair. One of extremely few establishments I will miss in Edinburgh when leaving.

The service and atmosphere was perfect! We shared the cheese board as an appetiser and then had a sharing platter with all of the starters! Of course we also finished with pudding. The food was absolutely excellent and really imaginative - we particularly enjoyed the seedy crackers served with the cheese! Thank you Hendersons for a lovely lunch.

Not the best food I’ve had, but maybe just ordered the wrong thing. The tequila espresso martini was a must, aperol spritz not my favorite. Loved the bean pâté. The atmosphere was great! And great service

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Hendersons. Everything from the greeting at the door was dead nice and friendly, especially our waitress she was lovely. And the food was just sublime. I've never tasted Vegan food so good, I literally did want to lick the plate! I hope to be back again one day

Met up with a V for Life group for Hendersons lunch deal. The food was lovely, the staff were great - very accommodating, and the company was lovely. All-in-all a super experience, I'm hoping to be back next month! ... only one slight disappointment was the fact that I was absolutely dying for the tiramisu, but it wasn't vegan so I did without dessert.

We absolutely love Hendersons...they always make us feel welcome...along with our Springer Spaniel Ben who loves attention and homemade biscuits. The food is wonderful and the friendly staff make the whole visit a relaxed experience.

Very good food but the automatic 12.5% service charge is a shame. I don’t think anyone wants the American tipping culture and it feels sketchy to make it opt-out instead of opt-in; makes me less keen to return.

We love this place. My friends are veg/vegan and it is great to go somewhere they can order everything. I had the haggis and it was phenomenal, a bit too much portion-wise for me to finish, but absolutely great. Their cocktail menu is fantastic and the ambiance makes everything feel intimate and not like you're in a busy restaurant. We usually come for the lunch menu, so this was our first evening meal and it was a perfect Friday out.

This was my first visit to the new Hendersons. My wife and I were quite frequent evening diners at the original Hendersons - since the mid-1960s. So it was great to experience the new restaurant and its excellent dishes. Your greatest asset, however, is your staff. Welcoming, attentive, helpful, personal. The two front-of-house staff made the visit special. My only criticism (because I am elderly and my hearing is leaa than perfect) is that the ambient noise level of conversation among lots of happy eaters was reverberated by the hard walls etc. Some soft wall hangings here and there might make a significant difference.

Lovely meal and cocktails. Only criticism is that the portions are too large and I didn’t have room for cranachan on the Burn’s night menu. Even my carnivore husband enjoyed himself but is still to be converted to the joy of tofu 😉
