Hello Oriental in Manchester

Wanted to try this place for ages but what a disappointment. Ordered on the app and my husband’s food arrived but no sign of mine?? I asked a waitress and she said it will be less than 3 minutes. It finally arrived 10 minutes later. By this time my husband had finished his meal. The food was very average and really not worth the long wait. Very disappointing. Won’t be rushing to go back.

We’ve just came back from TC and let me just tell you- don’t bother there is far better spots to eat around TC than this one. We’ve arrived, there was no one to greet us, even though it wasn’t busy, so we’ve been shown to our table by a bartender who stood behind bar. We sat down and a guy dressed very casually, not even looking like a waiter explained we have to order by the QR code. Ok. Fair enough straight forward. Ohhh, no it wasn’t. After selecting our food, giving name, surname, bra size, shoe size and name of my next door neighbours ferrets one by one- we had to register, choose password. Oh no password generated by the system was too long, the system doesn’t take it, quick shorten password. Ufff, finally we’ve ordered. Something that would take around 35 sec with a person took ages by the QR code system. Idiotic. Waiting for food was quite quick, however food does not come all together, several tables around us had the same problem, some people already finished, while their partner just received the meal. We’ve ordered salt and pepper box and a pho with all meats, and vegetable spring rolls. Salt and pepper box was mainly saaaaaalllt, not so much pepper, bought in chips, very dry wings and one still had a feather on. My pho had exactly 4 prawns- cut lengthwise so it seems like there is more of them, 4 thinnest slices of turkey you’ve ever seen, and plenty of noodles in a broth- that according to the menu is cooked for 24 hrs… well, this one was not cooked for 4 hrs never mind 24, heck it tasted like it was cooked for max 40min, it had no depth, not much flavour. I ate it, as at this point we’ve been starving, but if I wasn’t- I’d definitely not eat it. Check on us? When the dishes were dirty a lady came and asked us if it was ok. So I said- ok. And that was that. I’m writing this- so other people don’t bother, honestly, neither the pho, nor the salt and pepper box- in a paper box, or the frozen spring rolls were not worth £40. The menu also doesn’t show how big the soft drinks are, so I thought we ordered large bottle of water, no- turns out for £3.50 we got a 330ml…. Just a bit more than a glass of water. Not worth the money, or the time. Annoying ordering system, and sub-par food. Don’t bother.

Massive selection of various foods from across Asia.... Some are really really good such as the pork fried dumplings... Others like the bahn mi were a bit bland so definitely a place where you need to know what to order. Atmosphere and service are spot on, love the addition of live anime being played.

Our group was served by Briony who was absolutely excellent. She went out of her way to explain the halal options to our group of visibly Muslim women and was clearly knowledgeable to answer any questions we had. Would definitely want to come back just for the service. The food was delicious and vibes were great.

Amazing. Came here for lunch with my mum and baby. Amazing food, great atmosphere and service, such lovely staff - I didn’t catch her name but our server was so lovely and her recommendation of beef Han Fu was perfect! So tasty, good sizes, and good prices. Also got the Malaysian curry and mango bingsu which we loved too. Wish I knew about this gem when I was a student. Thank you!

Love this place! The food menu is massive and there's so much to choose from. Service is fast! The place is getting a little run down now though, toilets were a mess in the middle of the day and need sprucing big time

I went here for a meal to catch up with a friend I haven't seen for a while. I ordered their malaysian noodles and waited for 30 mins. I asked the waiting staff for an update on my order and I was told "Oh, we don't do that anymore." So I ended up getting something else which came in the next 5 minutes or so. The waiting staff and kitchen knew about my order but did not tell me about it being unavailable and left me waiting - I received my food when my friend already finished eating 😅 The waitress didn't seem to think there was anything too wrong with this and was not very apologetic. We then went upstairs to get dessert. I ordered the ice cream served on the fish bread they have and the staff picked up the bread with her bear hands and placed it on another counter (no plate/napkin used) while she did another order... I was left very disappointed with the service... I will not be coming again.

Really lovely energy and great vegan menu. The menu is quite extensive which is a bit overwhelming (especially in an online format) but I enjoyed the amount of options.

Visited Hello Oriental on a Tuesday evening, arriving at 17:00. The restaurant wasn’t busy—there were six front-of-house staff and four in the kitchen, so we expected a smooth experience. We placed our food order at 17:06, but by 17:36, it still hadn’t arrived. When we followed up with a waiter, we were told there had been a system issue and the kitchen never received our order. Finally received food at 17:45. While mistakes happen, it was disappointing that this wasn’t picked up sooner, especially given how quiet the restaurant was. When front staff see customers sitting there for ages without any food, they should ask what happened not wait until customers find out something wrong. Hopefully, they can improve communication between staff and the kitchen to avoid similar delays in the future. Also I believe it’s not staff issue, it looks it’s a management issue.

Food was okay! The flavours were there but they went a bit mad on the salt and that's coming from someone who LOVES salt. Got some soup dumplings which where perfect and lovely but also got some duck soup noodles and sadly this was too salty. The bone was left in the duck meat before it was chopped so each piece had a bit of bone that meant I couldn't just eat it I had to separate it from the bone first and sadly it was really hard to separate the meat from the bone ! My friend got salt and pepper chips and wings which I thought was really nice on the verge of being too salty but just escaped it. Also got the 2 for 1 cocktails which was like £11 I think got the lychee, it was strong but mellowed out towards the end and became really nice to drink. And for dessert I went and got some lychee and raspberry ice cream from upstairs which was tasty and interesting lots of great selection of ice creams I'll probably go back to try more ice creams and the Asian bakes they have to offer. Service was friendly and attentive, I asked a waiter if we just help ourselves to the water as I wasn't sure. They said yes but even ended up filling our glasses for us which felt above and beyond as they didn't need to. Atmosphere was good and cozy, dark and chic on the higher floors but more of a cafeteria vibe on the bottom floor. The stairs and the general shape of the building is cool and modern.

Was initially drawn in by multiple video ads by (now disappointed). Ordered the Croc-Waffles for takeaway, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The waffles were cold and clearly not freshly made. They were wrapped in napkins, which ended up all sticking to the chocolate—making it messy and unpleasant to eat. The texture of the waffle itself was also off, feeling more like overly thick and firm dough than a proper waffle. In terms of service, I was concerned to see that the waitress handled my waffles without using tongs or wearing gloves. Did not expect this quality of Croc-Waffles and service.

Vibes and atmosphere is lovely - definitely a great place to go to socialise whilst enjoying the good energy. However, I feel the food doesn’t meet my expectations.

We got the shredded beef and it was so chewy as well as their chicken in the Korean cheesy loaded fries. It was not a good experience at all. Feel like we have just wasted money for nothing. Very disappointed. Can barely eat it

If I could give negative stars on food quality, I would do that. I completely love the restaurant before as they used to serve tasty food. I loved their bakery items and it was my must have on the go while going back home from office. But recently, I’ve had chicken satay pastry and it was full of mold. They did apologize and refund, but I can’t trust their bakery food any more.

I had the katsu salad and my partner had the duck bao buns. The katsu salad was absolutely soaked in sauce. It was dripping in either salad dressing or mayo so it was sickly to eat more than a few mouthfuls. I would have returned the food had I not been in a hurry. My partner had the duck bao buns. The duck was one fat lump, and really hard, not shredded so really tough to eat. On positive note the interior and decor is really nice. Shame about the food as we were excited to eat there.

The food wasn’t great - the duck had bones in and the rest wasn’t great. Everything took at least 30 mins to come. Cheeky to add a compulsory service charge even when the service is bad.

Me and my son visited hello oriental for lunch today . Service at the restaurant was amazing, food was absolutely delicious and we will definitely visit again . However when we were leaving, I wanted to take home the crocks waffle what is advertised on social media. At the caffe was only one girl, she was clearly stressed, because she was overwhelmed with orders . After 10 min waiting we been told that I can't order the crocks waffle because its not ready to be make, because she is there alone. I'm pretty sure she did her best as she had people snapping on her, that they are waitng too long. I spoke to manager to adress the issue that the caffe is understaffed. I'm giving 5 starts because food at the restaurant was deluciouse and service was perfect.. Message to the owners, if you have understaffed facility the service will never be excellent. There is no way one person could do barrister job, also make waffles, taking orders and serve at the same time. The location is busy and you need min 2 people upstairs and that's minimum. Aspecialy if you do big promo on social media.

Nice quirky place with really good tasting food. Katsu curry and loaded chips are a deffo must. Unfortunately experience was ruined by customer service. Served by a waitress called Bryony who was extremely hostile and rude which would unfortunately make me think twice coming back to this branch again.

I wouldn't say it's amazing Asian food, but it's the best I can find in walking distance from the universities. The wide variety on the menus means you can try different things, even if it also means they don't specialise in one thing. Overall I enjoy coming here for my staple rice dishes. Just annoyed by the 10% ordering fee (all orders are online).

Found the food to be very salty! Drinks service was very slow, cocktails came after we had finished eating our meal. Overall the food tastes like a better version of a Chinese takeaway.

Hi guys, So I went to visit hello oriental as I was near the area and to my surprise the layout was amazing. The options were infinite from noodles cho mein to vegetable spring rolls. I am allergic to fish and was very worried there would be fish oil or something I did not recognise. I was very immersed that everything on the online menu had labels for halal seafood and much more like soya and milk. I was very happy and felt less worried about my allergy. (I did not get sick thankfully). The food was amazing and if you like south Asian food this is the place to go it has loads of options. Service was what was expected. The very negative thing is, is that the music was so loud I could not hear my family talking right next to me. If you like lots of music it’s your place but it was very loud. We asked them to turn it down and they were very polite but it never got turned down. Bye guys pls react so I know who liked the review.
