Haz Bar & Restaurant, Finsbury Square in Islington

Myself and a few colleagues went to Haz in Finsbury Square for dinner and drinks after work. The venue itself is nice enough but unfortunately we had a bad experience with service and food. Regarding service, some people received their drinks while others didn't. My drink just didn't arrive and when I enquired they told me that they were out of stock of rose prosecco. I wonder who was going to let me know! Regarding food, I ordered an Octopus starter for £13 and the dish I received was ridiculous - I truly believe they cut one octopus tentacle into about five pieces and spread it across the plate. There were more olives than anything else - shamless. When I queried the dish with the waitress she told me she doesn't design the food and didn't offer an alternative or attempt to help, so I sent the dish back. The mains were quite nice but I was served with dirty cutlery and the waitress/ waiter did not clear the starter plates before serving the mains so the table was a mess. All in all, poor service and average food. We reluctantly paid the service charge however we would never return to this restaurant. Shame as I've been to other Haz restaurants and the experience has been very different.

Beautiful Turkish food. The lam chops were so delicious with lots of different spices. Beautiful decor including the stunning cocktail bar. The service was efficient and friendly. Will definitely return

A return visit, again great service & amazing food. Would recommend the starters of Borek, Octopus, & Sucuk. The main course Iskender, Swordfish, Lamb Chops & Mixed Grill we’re outstanding - Kids loved the ice cream!! A real taste of Turkey!

Absolutely worst restaurant I’ve ever been to! We were a group of 30. 7pm reservations - everyone got their meal at different times last person just before 10pm!! Only to be told we all had to be out by 10.30! As for the food it came Luke warm or stone cold! The bread was rock hard and burnt! And the bulgur rice was stale! It smelt like a bin truck on a hot summer’s day which we told the waitress her response was “it smells like that because it has fresh lemon juice on it!”Since when does lemons smell like that! Dry fatty steak, dry fish, etc, etc, not one of us enjoyed our meal. When we asked why everything was taking so long we were told they only have a small grill! How the hell can such a large Turkish restaurant have such a small grill! Waste of time and money. As far as I’m concerned one star is too much.

We visited here on bank holiday Sunday and was concerned to see the place empty ... but don't be scared away this has got to be the best Turkish food we've ever had!! The starters we had the smoked salmon and beetroot dish to share which was perfectly light.. for mains two of us had the lamb shish and the other two chicken shish and they were cooked superbly .. we shared two bowls of bulger wheat between all of us which was more than enough. It looks beautiful inside too and I must say for London very reasonable! Would defo return next time we visit London!

Wonderful! We arrived having been rudely turned away from Cote, who gave us misinformation as to their opening hours (as they have done before), and finding a place to eat after a concert on a Sunday night near the Barbican is not easy! Happily, Haz came to the rescue and we had delicious small plates washed down with excellent Negronis, and beautifully looked after a very kind Uzbekistani server, who, along with the manager on duty, couldn't have been more gracious. They could have closed up for the night but agreed to let us eat late, and the entire experience was a very happy surprise: GO!

My first visit to this particular branch of Haz - same reliable middle eastern classics, fresh ingredients and friendly service. nothing spectacular but good food at a fair price point for this area. The venue is the smartest of the other Haz branches I've visited over the years.

We walked in by chance last Sunday evening. I know nothing of Turkish food but gave it a try. I was apprehensive, but there was no need to be. The food and service was to die for. The staff were very welcoming and gave us a lovely table. The chicken stir fry was delicious as was the penne pasta vegan dish. The Turkish tea was a lovely finish at the end.

I can't thank Bat, Mirac & Mina enough for their service last Saturday. They were truly amazing and helped us out with no hesitation after we had an issue with a group booking at the hotel round the corner. We were about 30 and celebrating our friends engagement and needed a space for a surprise drinks. I walked in and explained the situation to Bat and he gave us their private dinning room with no delay. He even handed me his own speakers to play music and gave us the heads up that as there were only 3 of them working service may be slow for our large group (which it was not). In the end we had food and drink and the whole group had a lovely time. We can't thank the team enough as they really got us out of a sticky situation, the couple were so happy and their service was 5 star!!! Thanks so much! Elizabeth

had dinner here last night for our anniversary and the food was incredible. couldn't fault any of it the flavours were amazing!!! lovely seating outside with a nice view staff were lovely too inside bar area was also nice to sit at for a drink will deffo be back x

While staying at the hotel next door we thought we'll eat out and came to this restaurant for a meal. Firstly the waiter seemed half a sleep and was rude. We walked into the restaurant and the waiter took us to the middle of the restaurant then just stopped which was confusing because he didn't take us to a table. I then just said can we set anywhere and he just looked at me so I said "table for two please" then he took us to our table. My meal, chicken shish was terrible and tasted funny. When I spoke to the waiter he didn't care and just said "if you didn't like the food, you should of said" then walked away, but that's what I was doing. Me not eating anything apart from the chips which I brought separate should of been more than enough to prove to him I didn't like it. My mums meal, the mix grill was a waste of money. The lamb was chewy, the chicken shish also tasted funny and the chilli salad was just chopped tomatoes with chillis. I will not be returning back 🤢🤬😡

I was shocked by how bad this place was given that i had heard such good things about it. The thing that let it down most of all was the service. The two male waiters couldn't have looked any less interested or happy doing their jobs. They did the bare minimum and only at a push. There was no checking in to see if we were ok - instead we had to push them to take our order and even get the bill. The food was ok but the prices weren't justified at all. A disappointing experience.

Visited 21/11/2021 Out of date menu outside the restaurant, displaying prices lower than the current menu. (this is also true of the prices listed on this tripadvisor page, which are outdated too) Me and a friend had moussaka (vegetarian and meat), which came worryingly quickly (within about five minutes), and was disappointingly bland, a pretty small portion size, and on its own (which considering it cost 14.50 and 16.50 is a bit of a p*** take). Service was fine, nothing spectacular, ambience in the place was pretty dead tbh - despite a lack of mention in the menu, a 12.5% service charge was added to the bill - to top it off, we were overcharged for the beers. Meant the meal came to £25 a head, which is a lot, even by london standards,, given we each had one beer and one moussaka. Can't say i'd recommend this place on any criteria tbh, very disappointing

Terrible experience as a coeliac. Visited reception to ask if there was any GF dishes, their response being a straight ‘No’ in response to my further question of ‘nothing at all?… ‘No’ then an brief moment to take it in that they were genuinely offering absolutely nothing before I turned to the exit took my leave. Shocking really, a total lack of effort to accommodate or even communicate why.

Excellent service, everything is on point. Our waitress named Jessica was extremely nice and made the experience 15/10. We tried the salmon and mixed grill along with the calamari and it was mind blowing. Would definitely recommend! Thanks again Jessica!!
