Four of us ordered food, sandwiches and ploughman. Drinks arrived, but food took over 40 minutes. The sandwich I had was hideous, it was supposed to be bacon, chicken and avocado. It was ladons that were so pale, chicken was all brown meat, all held together with a good slab of butter, the bread was paper thin; just hideous. As an apology for the wait they gave us an extra portion of chips. Which they then charged us for!

We had visited many times before the rebrand and were always very satisfied. This was our first rst visit since the rebrand we will not be returning. The ploughman's lunch was very disappointing the ham was fine, however for a bakery the portion size of bread was perhaps the size of half a small roll and everything else on the plate was a garnish. An absolute rip off price for what was on the plate.

I was attracted to the 'Italian Bakery' name - can't resist Italian baking! Found the bakery / cafe to be excellent with a great range of products even though it was mid-afternoon. Had a Roulade and a Chocolate Orange cake to take out. Also had a Vanilla milkshake. All were excellent with the Roulade being particularly good and the cake having a strong orange flavour - unlike others we have tried. Shame I don't like locally as I would be back regularly, Staff were helpful and it was a very pleasant experience.

What a shame this lovely bakery has rebranded itself as the Italian Bakery. It’s now absolutely awful, incompetent staff making the hot drinks, grumpy looking staff, v expensive, mislabelled pastries so you end up not getting what you thought you were buying, Will not be back.

Me and my friend came to Swanage for the day last weekend. We were looking for a place to sit in and have coffee and ended up in The Italian Bakery which used to be Haymans. We found out that the place has been completely refurbished not long ago. Everything looks stunning inside and out. We only wanted a drink but got tempted by some of their delicious cakes. They have a huge selection of desserts, cakes and savouries. The staff’s been extremely helpful and polite they made us feel so welcomed. Can’t wait to be back and try some more cakes!

Always a favourite to visit. Mostly we get takeaway and enjoy in the beach. I visited and they didn’t have the sand which options I wanted but were happy to make them up. We visit Swanage a lot, last 5yrs our summer holiday has been here plus day trips all through the year. I knew Haymans well & was hoping the new owners would not change things. Alas, I was wrong. Sandwich choices (our main staple daily lunch whilst on the beach) have gone down to 3-4 poor choices, takes an age to get served, ordering a sandwich to be made takes forever. I understand it’s busy but we have seen it 3 times as busy as it is currently but have got served much quicker. Why prawn & avocado, why not prawn salad? It’s also double and some in cost to sit in to have the same cheese & pickle sandwich £3 to £7.50!!!!! We have gone elsewhere for most of our holiday this year, even for coffee (which is inconvenient) but get served quicker! Buck your ideas up When the tourists have gone you will be left with unhappy locals who will go elsewhere too Unhappy, never thought I would write this about Haymans but there we are. I hope you take note & improve things.

We have been visiting Haymans bakery for over 30 yrs (the days when easter eggs were made and sold there) and unfortunately I have to say the service now is pretty poor. For example, we use to eat in and more recently bought food to take away; sandwiches, pasties etc.. The service use to be quite swift, even made up a sandwich if the fillings we available. Our last two experiences were no where near as good. For instance, cornish pasties use to be warmed up near the till and took around a minute. Now they are taken into the back and disappear for 10 mins or more. Sandwiches selection is limited and whilst they claim 'freshly prepared' the bread would appear not to be that fresh; tasted hard and a bit stale. I understand the place may have been recently taken over, hence I really hope the new owner reads this and perhaps makes some improvements

Such a shame that since the original owner Mr Hayman sold the bakery business the new Owners have changed the flour used to make there bread !the “Haymans”! Bread has always been a unique experience and was definitely the best bread in the South of England !It was one of the highlights of coming down to Swanage we have been coming here now for over 68 years !The Haymans Cobs were fantastic and well worth queuing for !Indeed the rolls and bread used to be delivered to the surrounding campsites !I have in the past rang the shop to ask them what’s happened and the lady who answered the phone did compliment me on letting the shop know !Daresay it has been a cost reduction exercise as the quality flour that had been used was more expensive !The bread now has lost its uniqueness and is very indifferent the cobs are the same !It will only be a matter of time before the business is sold on again as the regular customers from the past will just buy the bland bread from the local supermarket and the shop will just be another coffee shop!

We had seen some other people just sitting down with their coffees and cake just as we entered. There were at least three staff standing around doing nothing. I appreciate people want to get home on time but honestly, I was really surprised that they felt they could literally turn away £20 of business with almost half an hour to go before closing.Very unwelcoming.

The cream was dry and tasteless, I do appreciate that it was mid afternoon when we went in but that really isn't an excuse, if it is on display for sale then it should still be fresh I guess it had been sitting there all day. Swanage is pretty well served for places to get a mid-morning snack, but this shop has the most tempting display of baked goods. Nothing too pretentious (like everywhere in my home town of Bath), yet neither were the cakes heavy and floury like in old-fashioned bakeries. The were large but light Eccles cakes, huge lardy cakes (again not heavy looking) which you could share along with chunky tray bakes and cream selections. I only intended to grab something cheap to eat out, but the prices were so reasonable I had tea and toasted teacake to eat in. I don't recommend the outdoor seating as it is on a noisy one-way system with some smelly drains, but the indoor tables are lovely and the service very friendly.

What's the saying 'once bitten, twice shy' how we wish we'd remembered that before venturing into Haymans this week. We had visited last year and found the service less than adequate, having to wait over 35 mins to have sausage rolls warmed up!! But thought we'd give them a second chance. What a mistake! We had taken premade sandwiches from the chiller only to be told they were for take away and fresh ones would be made if we wanted to eat in, which in itself wasn't a problem we also ordered sausage rolls and drinks. One arrived but no sandwiches or drinks and we were told that it must have been missed off and that the kitchen and front of house worked differently to each other!!! In midst of all of this another couple actually walked out because the counter staff were so rude to them. Aftet a wait of 40mins i asked if we could just have the sandwiches from the chiller as they said the kitchen was now backed up and we would have a bit of a wait!!! Completely incompetent and incredibly rude staff. Very very disappointed. Will not be back.

Called In from the rain for tea and cake. Beautiful selection of amazing and different cakes and biscuits. Wish this was on our doorstep at home. !

Sandwiches were very expensive to take away and not particularly nice. The custard apple turnovers and Florentines were excellent.

Arrived in Swanage just after 8 in the morning to avoid the traffic. Most places were shut but found this place for breakfast. It was perfect. A mini breakfast which consisted of egg, bacon, beans, hash brown and toast was just the job. Not sure why it was called mini? Service was quick and the breakfast hot and well cooked. Definitely a place to return to. They also sold bread and cakes.

I think I have only had coffee here once or twice in my life, and I am an old woman, so I can't remember much about it! But the reason I come here, and the reason for my excellent rating is that it seems to be the only bakery in the UK that still sells that crumbly confection of meringue and almonds known as a Jap cake. Honestly, I have never found them anywhere else! Every time I visit Swanage, I make a point of hoovering up all the Japs (and if THAT isn't a politically-incorrect statement ....) and I have never been disappointed. In 50 years, the quality and size of the cake hasn't altered, and it's not heartbreakingly expensive either.

Having visited for coffee (which was lovely) during our stay, we thought breakfast before we left for home would be a good end to our holiday.

I used to pop in to Haymans all the time, when it was owned by Peter and Janice Hayman. It was the place to go... absolutely lovely. But ever since the new owners took over, absolutely dreadful. None of the old staff that used to be there this time last year, all new people who are terribly slow and need a customer service class, not one smile between them. I have heard through old locals and people in Swanage that they now treat there staff horribly, which is why the majority of the old staff have left... Absolute horrible prices which have gone up whilst the food quality has gone down! This time last year I would have recommended Haymans as the ‘place to go’ but now I would rather cross the road and go over to the Cornish Bakery where prices may be more or less the same, maybe a bit more expensive but atleast you’re paying for what you get! Absolutely fuming!

Dropped in after a trip to Norden and back. The old carriage is quite spacious, bright and attractive. Lots of outside seating on the platform and the grass bank. They also have a small book stall to raise funds for the railway. Prices are fine and the food and drinks are up to standard, but not as good as the Norden cafe.

Nice food, pleasant atmosphere, great service. Minor observation, to my mind Bruschetta is not garlic bread with a few chopped tomatoes on the top. Other than that we had a very enjoyable meal.

Great place for lunch or a stop off for a drink and cake... definitely recommend the Dirsrt Draught cider and the Dorset apple cake, warmed with ice cream

A range of food options to choose from. Food was good but the quality doesn’t seem as high as it used to be. Staff are friendly but it took a little while for us to be greeted at the door.
