Haughton Arms Hotel in Aberdeenshire

Stayed over on work trip. Beautiful hotel with inviting reception area and friendly staff - this first impression absolutely nails it for me as to whether or not I ever go back. And I'll be back. Had a very long drive over from Inverness via Lecht - so it was lovely to have a warm, friendly reception. I had a single room with en-suite shower. Spotlessly clean and everything you could need. Plenty tea/coffee/bourbons etc. Toiletries provided - nice touch. The bed was spotlessly clean with fluffy duvet and pillows - really comfy with a huge throw on top for colder nights but not needed as I didn't even need the heating on - the room temperature suited me fine. TV had lots of channels. Parking is right at the front of the hotel and well lit - this is really important as a lone traveller. Electric Vehicle charge point just a couple of hundred yards away. Had a great sleep. Bedroom was right at the front of the hotel so I got to see a beautiful sunrise on a glorious October morning. Breakfast was great - nothing was a problem and again - a nice warm welcome. Would 100% recommend and hope to be back soon. Go!

We ordered the steak burger and chicken & Avacado burger. I took pic but phone died died as I was taking it unfortunately so unable to post on here. We also ordered nachos to share for starter. After waiting 38 mins I decided to ask about the starter so went up to bar to and guy was coming thru with our burgers - I asked about starter and he said it’s just coming thru now but we wanted nachos as a starter not along with our main. Anyway to cut long story short we won’t be back. My chicken burger with Avacado had no Avacado in it. Normal soft bun that was soggy so fell apart as you tried to eat it. The chicken had no taste as no seasoning. Served with a trio of sauces - chilli, bbq, prawn Marie type sauce which we didn’t have as didn’t really go with burger. The fries are typically your frozen French fries. Don’t waste your money folks and drive further on to kildrummy inn for good food. It’s very sad to see the only pub in Alford can’t serve good food. I was in for a drink only few months ago and asked for kopperberg gin he looked and looked and could no see it on shelf but they have had in past. anyway we opted for kopperberg cider instead, I asked him if he could kindly take our drinks outside on a tray as my hands were tied with my 2 dogs but clearly there’s a language barrier and got blank look so I put dogs outside and went back in to take our drinks out. Feel they don’t have a clue how to run the place and clearly not a professional chef there with what they produce.

Stayed 2 nights - hotel was clean, quiet, lovely food (which was great value) and staff friendly. Negatives - vegan options limited on menu, bed very uncomfortable and breakfast finished by 8.45. We enjoyed our stay and would return again. The town of Alford is quiet but there’s more to do than you would think - lots of walking trials, narrow gauge railway and museum interests.

Great lunch time meal with friends, good atmosphere and excellent food, and dog friendly, who could ask for more. Staff couldnt do enough for us. We will definitely be back

Stopped in for lunch and we both ordered the philly cheesesteak fries....I am not sure what we ended up getting but the claggy and tasteless mess was like nothing I have seen before......to say we were disappointed would be something of an understatement. Might be the worst case of false advertising since time began.....they say a picture paints a thousand well take a look and see what you think!!

Sunday dinner. The service was professional from a young team immaculately turned out and without delay, in a pleasant clean restaurant. My dinner was the roast of the day - lamb. The lamb was amazing, so tender and visible fat free. I wanted to ask the chef where the lamb came from, what joint and how it was cooked, but am too inhibited! Wife's dinner was also excellent. The sweets were amazing; wife had banana split - the presentation was perfect, substantial and really enjoyed. My knicker blocker glory was splendid. Minor criticism to show this is genuine! On arrival three faces appeared from different doorways to look and in the restaurant staff were very present by bar, felt being watched all the time (though probably wasn't) with service maybe too fast. Dinner for two with a drink each, £44.85. Overall - fantastic and will be back. Well done Haughton Arms Hotel team.

Nice food. We had scampi, pie and mash, steak. Also had sticky toffee pudding and knicker blocker glory. Good service. Good price.

Meal was lovely, steak cooked to perfection! Service quick, staff lovely, place was clean and also reasonably priced! We sat inside but seating also available outside. Will definitely go back if passing again!

Gr8 beer (Landlord) one of my favouites. Lovelt staff. Wife had haddock and chips which was good. I had steak & Guiness pie. The pastry on top was crisp and ok. The bottomof the pie was soggy and inedible. I should have put it back but decided to eat what was edible. Explained my dissatisfaction and requested some form of compensation. Lovely staff member went to superior and came and said ."whats 10% of £13.50?" So I got £1.35 off. So that's how much returning trade means to them.

Had a meal in the bar area of the hotel- nicely decorated and good room for seating (not squashed in like Sardines) The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was lovely, we ordered Nachos to share, black pudding burger and Aberdeen Angus Steak with chips. Would definitely recommend.

Very good food and value for money Husband had steak and chips and I had steak pie and veg, all very tasty and filling. The service was very good. All in all, I would recommend eating at this bar, although disappointing that the restaurant itself wasn’t open..

Booked for lunch on Sunday for a treat for our nephew and children who were visiting us from Glasgow.Excellent welcome from Megan who had taken our booking.Very nice setting and very nice fixtures and fittings.Very attentive staff just perfect service and excellent quality of food and good choice on menu.All of could not fault this restaurant.

We had a lovely meal last night. Restaurant is decorated beautifully, big menu choice, food was lovely and service was amazing. A lovely touch was the wine and water glasses with the hotel name and logo on. Will definitely be back.

The lady who took our last minute booking was so lovely and helpful. The bar restaurant was really nicely decorated, felt new and fresh. When we arrived the lady was obviously busy but managed so well to keep everyone happy, very friendly and also efficient. The food was good pub grub, just what we were looking for.

Decent prices for food, with a wide selection on offer in the bar. The bar is very nice, and dog friendly. Don't bother ordering the chips - as they are actually skinny fries with little to no potato content - straight from a freezer bag I think.

A warm welcome awaited us along with a lovely room and delicious food- we were lucky to benefit from the 'Sunday roast menu' The room was spacious, well appointment and the complimentary toiletries well presented and of good standard. High level of cleanliness The food exceeded expectations - both evening meals and at breakfast time

Been meaning to come here for years and today we finally did. Both enjoyed a coffee and scone which were delicious. Friendly welcome, nice interior and reasonably priced. Food looked good coming out of the kitchen, would definitely return for a meal or breakfast next...

Took the grandkids to their favourite restaurant for the 1st time this year. All done up and very nice. Not a huge menu only 2 things i liked or was not allergic to. My grandson and I decided on the 1/2 roast chicken with vegetables....

Old fashioned surly 'welcome' by a landlady. Her main concern seems to be who is using the car park or the WC. There will be no attempt to make you feel welcome. Avoid.

Having changed ownership recently, the Haughton menu has changed. The new menu is lovely! Everything we’ve had has been very tasty, well presented and good portion sizes. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Service is quick and a good wide range of drink choices.

Although late in the afternoon, we were made very welcome for a late lunch. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The game pie and gammon steak, home made, were delicious, huge portions - no need for anything else. We will return. Satisfied customers. We were...

The menu is excellent. The food is very tasty and the staff friendly, helpful and had great ease and charm.It was so good that after our starters we agreed to come back again as the vast menu had speciality food that we take many trips to sample them all !Also the restaurant and toilets very clean and tasteful decoration. A warm atmosphere. Great art work.

Recently had a catch up meal with some friend some of which had more traditional food which I have to say looked delicious the haddock was huge. We had Indian which was beautiful. Would definitely recommend to anyone. There was live music in the bar which just rounded off the night perfectly

I’ve been there a few days and the food was great! I’m not fan of Indian’s food but after I’ve tried i must say was my favourite food ever! I love everything about this place, the food of course, but also the decoration, the staff,and I didn’t need to wait to long for the food, everything was so professional, and made me feel great.

An excellent traditional mince and tatties in a relaxed atmosphere. Service spot on. Been several times now and the meals have all been delicious.

Most enjoyable dinner. Excellent waitress from Argentina, polite and attentive. Starter of king prawns was great, mains were fresh and vibrant like a decent curry should be. Lovely peshwari nan bread. Recommended. The room is nicely decorated with a warming wood burning fire.

Wow if you are looking for lovely pub grub then you found it! Traditional fares and great service but the jewel in the crown here is the fantastic Indian menu. I grew up in Birmingham, England and we have some fab Indian food so I know my curries! This is literally Michelin Star Indian food, not sure if they have won awards but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had. This is a must visit if you are in Aberdeenshire!

Ate here a few times during a short stay at the attached hotel. Good food with great choices on the menu. Would definitely eat here again!

Food served at Rubens is delightful. There is nothing more welcoming than one of the chefs great curry’s. After a long day the relaxed atmosphere in the dining room was just right. The starter and main course were wonderful. The portions were just right and the flavours excellent. Staff were welcoming and attentive. If in Alford pop in you won’t be disappointed.

A few weeks ago I went into restaurant wondering what I could have for lunch,as I can only eat low fat meals.Decided to have a salad,bit embarrassing thinking what will they think of me ,I don't want this or that,could I have boiled potatoes instead of chips.The lady said no problem at all,delivered a beautiful salad really enjoyed it,best lunch I've had our for some time.I will not be embarrassed going in there again,felt quite at home actually, well done and thankyou

We got the new flyer menu through the door a couple of weeks ago and we have had two takeaways since then. One for two people and one for four. The quality and standard is superb - Really fresh. And the menu range seems to have increased. A real asset to the village! Thanks.

Ordered Macaroni Cheese and chips. Paid £11 for the Macaroni. Got home no chips phoned to let them know. Was asked if we got garlic bread which we did. Was then told chips were separate. Now the garlic bread was 2 little slices you would give a child. Won't be ordering again or dining in again. We were told prices have went up not a problem if we get our order right. Some macaroni at Butcher £2.50.

We ate here twice during our recent stay in the area - our first meal was a Chicken curry and our second was fish and chips. Both meals were Excellent with a Capital E :-) We are two older Australian female travelers and were made to feel very welcome, I can't recommend the Haughton Arms restaurant highly enough!

This is a good Indian and well worth a visit if you are in the area. They will go off-menu for you (well, they did for me) and the food is tasty and the staff very friendly and efficient. Prices are mid range and there is ample parking close by. On the menu is Spag Carbanara which is a first for me in an Indian restaurant

We were a group of 5 searching for food at 8.40pm at night when we came across Ruebens Resturant. The staff were very accommodating for us as the kitchen was suppose to close at 8.30pm but the chef agreed to stay on for us! We are very grateful for this!

Having frequently visited the Haughton Hotel to eat I am afraid this will probably be our last! Had to wait over an hour for food and was very disappointed when eventually arrived. Bill came to just over £80, no discount offered and no final apology.

Very good all round restaurant in a nice country hotel, nor very big but well managed over the last 10 years or so with consistent standards.

This has become a popular haunt for us, not to far away from Aberdeen and worth the drive. To be fair the menu is pretty much the pub menu you would expect with all the traditional favourites listed. However, the food is excellent, served piping hot and of sufficient quality. Staff seemed happy to engage and the atmosphere although quiet was pleasant. Good for a lunch out, reasonably priced and worth a return visit.

Habiendo vivido en Alford con mi familia durante muchos años que, en nuestra opinión, hemos observado como la calidad de los restaurantes es siempre decreciente. Este tristemente en nuestra última visita no fue una excepción. La comida nos pareció insípido y muy caro para lo que recibimos. El servicio era irregular; nosotros esperamos 15 minutos para pedir bebidas y luego el orden equivocado presentamos estas cosas pasan, pero cuando pedimos nuestras comidas.

Como un grupo que había organizado una visita al centro de esquí local para un evento de "tubing" y seguimiento había organizado una comida en el Haughton Arms Hotel. Nuestro grupo estaba formado por 25 + con una mezcla de grupos de edad. Las comidas individuales habían reservado como recomendado y una selección de carne, pescado, pollo o jamón ensalada. La sala había sido vestida para la comida y estaba muy bien presentado con mesas individuales de estar 6 o 7 personas. Las comidas había sido organizado para las 5:30 pm y empezaron a llegar casi hasta el minuto. La presentación era excelente con el tema principal de platos y fue seguido por guarniciones de puré de patatas, que contenía, duros y asado, además de una mezcla de verduras. Nuestra orden mesa individual cubierto todas las comidas en orden con yo optando por la carne tarta. Puedo decir que este fue uno de los mejores pasteles de carne que he tenido en muchos años. La carne era suave hasta el punto de derribar con el borde de un tenedor y la pastelería era ligero y fresco. El dictamen de la mesa en las comidas individuales también era excelente, así como a la presentación y el sabor. Una sorpresa con el seguimiento té y café cuando cada mesa fue presentada con un gran plato rebosante con casa elabora todos eran excelentes. Una última palabra sobre el personal que donde totalmente profesional en sus servicios como un grupo que cimentó nuestra experiencia de esta visita.

Asistimos a un almuerzo organizado, y todo el mundo estaba muy impresionado con la comida, la presentación, y el personal amable. Mi marido y yo decidimos pasar la noche, y nos quedamos impresionados con la habitación, que estaba impecablemente limpia, así como el resto del hotel. Las camas eran cómodas y el baño limpio y luminoso. La única diownside era la falta de agua caliente en los grifos en la mañana, aunque la ducha estaba bien. El desayuno era un poco decepcionante, pero adecuado. Nada más que hacer en Alford, otro restaurante y tienda de chips en la ciudad tanto cerraba a las 8 de la tarde. Tuvimos un aperitivo en el bar del hotel, que era declicious, y, de nuevo, el personal era agradable y servicial. También me gustaría añadir que, aunque el menú era principalmente de India, no había toque de "comida india" en la entrada o resto del hotel.

Curiosamente, uno de los mejores restaurante de la india es llamado "Gran Reubens". Está situado en el Haughton Arms Hotel en Alford y es difícil de encontrar en línea en la partida. Eso es una pena ya que es un lugar fantástico para comer. Nuestro grupo de cinco entrantes y aperitivos ordenados varios para compartir y todos fueron grandes éxitos. El personal era excelente, así como la decoración. Parece muy exclusivo, pero los precios son bastante razonables.

Bonito restaurante acogedor hotel y pub Sheila nos recibió con una sonrisa amable y nos registramos en nuestra habitación. Limpia, espaciosa y cómoda. El desayuno es excelente.

4 of us went for a birthday meal - terrible food and service! Took 40 mins just to take our order. When the food arrived we had no plates to eat it off (curries), had to wait a further 15 mins. 2 meals had to be sent back as inedible, nan bread came out raw so asked for it to be cooked a bit more and it never reappeared. Ordered 4 plain rice and received 3x pilau. No apologies from staff. Won't be going back.

Have been several times for lunch and enjoyed it. Today, very disappointing very mean small bowl of soup for the same price as before. Not impressed with this change. However, Staff lovely, premises warm and comfy. Hope this review will encourage them to go back to a decent size bowl of soup.

The Haughton is one of my local restaurants which serves Indian food. I've never been a huge fan of Indian food but a meal here had me converted! So fresh and delicious. The bar is also great for informal drinks - always busy with great music, nice staff and reasonably priced drinks!

Very good Indian restaurant with a wide choice on the menu. We were surprised to find such a well presented restaurant behind the doors of this hotel.

We visit this restaurant regularly with our Classic Triumph Car Club. It is always a pleaseure. The food is excellent and the staff are always friendly and helpful and the bar and restaurant are tastefully decorated. We'll be back.

We went to have some dinner for my husbands birthday and we ordered a curry for our meal . After 45 min of our order a filthy looking old man on his kitchen uniform with dirty looking tattoos around his harm came with our meal to serve us on the table , he came and just bange the food and walk away like a angry person . We were there expecting no nice and good service for our special day not the smelly and filthy kitchen porter to come and serve us , that was the worst restaurant service I have ever encountered.Finally we decided to have our meal the first bite of the chicken inside wasn't cooked as it was cold and taste and smells like it has been cooked for weeks , rice smells some mould and wasn't hot enough either . Finally we decided to leave the restaurant and go to another nearby restaurant Bistro which was 100% better then from haughton and the staffs are very nice and pleasant Aswel .This is absolutely horrible place with no professionalism and we also find out the tips you gave to the hard working waiter ,which they never get it , it goes all to the owner so if you are there by chance unluckily for the horrible expensive food make sure don't tip to the service peoples as they never get that money .

Despite it being an unhappy occasion (after a family funeral) the sandwiches, cakes etc were very tasty, there were continuous refills of coffee and tea well presented and the young staff very pleasant - perhaps the older lady had had a trying morning. As a result next time we are visiting in Alford we will have our lunch or evening meal there.

In some places it can be difficult to find somewhere offering a sandwich lunch and beer, but not here. The pub was fairly empty at lunchtime on a Friday (slightly to our surprise). The beer was good, the sandwiches came quickly and the overall price was a pleasant surprise for those of us more used to London prices.

I spent a fine weekend at the hotel while attending SpeedFest at the nearby Grampian Transport Museum. A friendly bar with Timothy Taylor Landlord beer on tap followed by first class Indian food in the restaurants.The friendly staff made the stay very welcoming and comfortable.

Really nice wee bar with some excellent beer on tap. friendly bar staff and if we hadn't booked elsewhere some of the smells coming out of the kitchen were amazing!

Good Indian food but also caters well for the non curry lover. Service is always good, with Sheila leading a great team. We are now regulars.

Came here in June 2015 , had the lasagne . Wonderful and by far the best I've ever tried Would gladly return . Clean spacious and friendly staff. Highly recommend ! That's my experience , try it out for yourself
