Under new management and much improved again.

Dog friendly pub. Food was hot and tasty. Good quality and good size serving. Service was polite with food being served up relatively quick. Could do with some maintenance to the venue. Overall value for money.

Didnt go in, helped put a sign up in the car park.

Only a limited menu on the day I visited - but the food was great (just what I needed!)

Have been here quite a few times,the last time was two weeks ago with my Brother and his Wife. We had a brilliant evening and a really nice meal and the hospitality was brilliant also. Their chips are to die for 😋.

Had a meal with the family from 3 different house holds, the food was great but 5 out the 6 of us had food poisoning. I have never been so ill. Had 3 days off of work. On returning to work had a conversation with a colleague and he too had food poisoning back in the summer after eating here. I have reported this to the local health department. Will never return.

Stopped for a drink... the beer was ok but not a great selection. The atmosphere was very village local, felt a bit uncomfortable as an "outsider" but that's to be expected. Service was quick

Monthly Quiz night at the Hatchet is a great laugh. New OZ cask ale 🍺 on which was very nice.

Great food in a quiet country pub

We both had roast pork dinner,it was delicious, large portions but every mouthful was devoured with ease and our plates were emptied leaving us full and happy 😊

Went for a birthday meal earlier this evening. Had the prawn cocktail, calves liver and onions and the strawberry Eton mess. Hubby had breaded whitebait, rack of ribs and sticky toffee pudding. Wow. I’ve never managed to eat everything but the meal was lovely. Sizes are perfect, everything was beautifully presented and tasted of proper home made, freshness. Staff were so lovely and what is so unusual was the chef came out to say hi and ask if our meal was ok!! Already booked in again for next week and this lovely pub is, after years of absence, going to be our regular again

Stopped over in our motorhome after a long trip. Had food with them which was excellent throughout. Service was again excellent with the bar staff girls professionall and efficient. The chef prepared everything to a high standard. Would recommend anyone in the area to book for a meal.

We ate at the hachet inn excellent. We walked for a local campsite to the pub 25 min walk .sat outside and staff came out to take our order .they set up a tab with no need for card .food came out piping hot and really tasty.. Would highly recommend this pub on the A27 great service and good food Inn

Had a delicious lamb shank meal. Waitress was very friendly and good with the kids. Would definitely go back.

Great atmosphere. Service was excellent and being an old style pub it added to the atmosphere. A mixture of ages and all very sociable.

A traditional style country pub, clean with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The food was average at best, I took my family on Sunday and had a roast dinner, the meat was very nice, and so were the roast potatoes but there was only one small bowl of veg between all four of us and the parsnips were very undercooked and not edible. This was politely pointed out but there was no offer to remediate or offer something different or additional, based on this I probably wouldn’t return.

Lovely little pub. Competently run by welcoming staff. I was advised to choose the potato wedges, and yes, they were very good.

A decent 6.5 out of 10 for dinner, however the service was far better than the food and also the locals where very welcoming

Had a Sunday dinner there, it was very poor, unfortunately it seems they have given up, no compassion and not interested to make this little gem work

1st visit: August 2022 - I gave it 5***** stars - Down to earth friendly pub, great food. 2nd visit: 20 May 2023 - 2** stars!! - Sign behind bar states that if they're busy due to high demand, food may take longer than normal to be served and generally worth the wait. We arrived at 4:30PM, told that food started at 5PM. 6 people sat OUTSIDE drinking, 2 people sat down in the bar at a table, chatting to the chef. We were the 1st for order food at 3 minutes to 5PM. Baring in mind we had decided to wait for food at 5PM instead of driving off to somewhere else. It took 38 MINUTES for our food to be served. The 2 people who were seen chatting to the chef had their food served 5 minutes before ours. I walked in to look at their food to see if they'd ordered a salad and there was no reason for our food to be served last at all, because they had Meats, roast vegetables etc. My omelette was burnt and, I kid you not, I had to spit out a large section of egg shell found inside my omelette too, you can forgive a small piece but not that. My husbands special looked horrendous. 2 stars! Never coming back, as it appears you need to be a local to get a great service here.

Ale selection is good. Food was truly awful would not recommend. Used to stop here all the time for food, not anymore. Staff very unprepared for questions about anything on menu.

Nice friendly atmosphere as always but I'm sorry to say the food has gone downhill. It seems like it's all done for the ease of the cook rather than the quality for the customer, even the pie's are now a hard shortcrust pastry when they used to do a very nice flakey pastry.

Lovely village pub with fab menu. We came here on Monday night when there's a special offer of 2 fish dishes for £18. 4 of our table tasted 3 of these dishes, very good. Plenty more on the menu though, I had chicken and mushroom pie served with 3 veg (carrots, cabbage and pois mange tout) with mashed potatoes and gravy boat. Friendly and helpful staff, parking.

We went for lunch, interesting and different menu, using local game, in imaginative dishes which were delicious, and good value. Beer was not brilliant, bit stale. It was rather chilly, despite the fire in the hearth, which I suppose reflects the lack of support for businesses, but still could of warmed it up, as we found it uncomfortable.

Hugely impressed with our first visit to The Hatchet Inn on Friday night. Have driven past it a thousand times, but we finally popped in for a meal with friends and really glad we did. It's a busy, friendly and traditional pub, serving proper home cooked food and serving a large range of wines and real ales - and everything is REALLY sensibly priced. Our three course meal for four with drinks came to £140 (including tip). Amazing. The staff were super efficient and friendly and the landlord had a long chat with us at the end about where he gets his wines and cheeses from and forthcoming events. Can't recommend highly enough. We will be back.

Firstly, The Hatchet is not a gastro pub. It's a pub that serves up excellent home cooked, value for money food in a delightful 'local' atmosphere. Once you've visited The Hatchet, you'll probably keep coming back for more.

Gone down hill since the last time I visited Food was terrible, reheated and poor quality

This pub has been a regular but not frequent eating place for us. The last time we ate there was Sept 24th this year and it was as good as ever. Yesterday (11th November) four of us went for lunch. There was a reduced menu and prices were up. Given the difficult times for small businesses this change was not remarkable. Meals ordered were Beef and Ale pie, a Chilli, Fish and Chips and a Lasagna with Salad. I had the steak and ale pie with mash and vegetable. The pie was very good and I was satisfied. My wife had the lasagna and salad. The salad leaves were limp pieces of Rocket with raw onion and cucumber and was unappealing. The lasagna itself very small about 8cm by 6cm by 2 cm cut from, presumably a larger dish. When my wife tried the lasagna her reaction was there is no flavour in the mince it is just cooked mince in tomato sauce between 2 sheets of pasta. I tasted it and had to agree that it was not like any lasagna I had eaten The Chilli was not commented on but the nacho chips were burnt. The fish and chips had batter on the fish that was dark brown looking over cooked, while the inside of the batter was not cooked. The fish was moist and OK When my wife complained the reaction was very good and the server went to the kitchen and came back with the Chef's apologies and an offer of a glass of wine each and a reduction in the bill. An excellent response to such a disappointing lunch. I do hope they get their act together again soon.

Popped in at 5pm Fri and asked if availability for food. Very accommodating even though fully booked. Squeezed us in there and then. With our bikes (stored them for us) gave recommendations on cycling routes. Food excellent. Only staying for 2 nights but definitely will go back tonight.

After hearing good things, we booked a table. Disappointed to say the least- very little was available from the menu, the chicken was red in colour and other portions poor in quality. Very over priced for what it was. Suggestion...close the kitchen if you can't provide a decent roast dinner. Won't return.

They say don't judge a book by its cover!!!! Well this is a fabulous little country pub 😊the food is above and beyond all expectations!!! Steak nights!!!! Cooked to perfection!!! Fish night amazing!!! Steak and kidney pie dad cleaned his plate!!! Can't rate this highly enough!!! If ever you are passing!! Don't !!!! Do call in you will not be disappointed staff very friendly all food cooked fresh but advise you to book as very busy!!! Thanks hope to return one day😊 oh and very dog friendly!!!

Beautiful small olde worlde pub, but does need a bit of attention to decor and table was very sticky, but food is lovely!!! And service very good. Had a large well kept play area for kids, although outside area a bit untidy and uninviting.

Cannot fault the food, it was excellent. Do not be put off by the tired appearance. Arrived 10 mins before our table was booked for and was curtley told "you're too early ", we thought we would have a drink before our meal but obviously that was wrong. Other than that cannot fault it.

First time we have been here and had a lovely meal (Sirloin steak and duck dishes). Loved all of it. Generous portions and really crispy chips. Loved the salad and vegetables- a decent portion and lots of variety. Fantastic.

Fab food..the homemade chicken and ham pie was great with the mash and veg cooked just the way I like. Didn't have to wait long for food either. Food was lovely and hot..we got there as it opened but was filling up fast as we left..very popular place..landlady was friendly and helpful..

Nice atmosphere, real old country pub feeling about it, tge food was great. Had Ham ploughman's and the wife a Stilton, was lovely and the amount of Stilton was fantastic. Great place to eat.

Went for lunch with friends, we all had good things to say about the food. All portions were plentiful and the bowls of vegetables were very good. We all finished with clean plates. Desserts were again all home made. Sticky toffee pudding was lovely and Sticky, my strawberry pavlova was in a league of its own. Staff were nice and friendly without pestering you. Will definitely be going there again. A nice selection of beer to top it off.

Excellent friendly pub, we've eaten there several times over the years, and again, the meals didn't disappoint. We will definitely be back! One minor detail, but worth a mention, the young guy answering the phone when we booked and served our table.... a criticism is his lack of communication skills and approachability, severely lacking, no please or thank you's, phone manner just as unresponsive, but, he still served us, and he did a good job and it went well, so otherwise great. I hope the chap receives more training, he's a worthy guy, just maybe a little shy in coming forward. Great pub, thanks for the meals!

Turned up 4.55pm unsure whether they were open Monday, and Manager/Owner popped out to let us know they were open at 5pm. At 5pm doors opened and warm welcome, nice log fire. We wanted to eat and they was more than happy to fit us in and when we explained my wife has gluten intolerance, they double checked and came up with a range of options. Good ales and fantastic range of good reasonable priced traditional pub meals. Will recommend. Cheers Tony

Fantastic food and very affordable prices. Delivered to our campsite. Steak with all the trimmings and a sauce. The largest Steak and Kidney Pie with the creamiest mash and perfect veg. with a small beer all for £22. perfect.
