Harris + Hoole in St Albans

I recently visited this cafe with my family, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. From the outside, the cafe looked inviting, and the interior was pleasant, but that’s where the positives ended. I ordered a honey mustard chicken sandwich, a pistachio donut, and a latte. The sandwich was soggy and completely tasteless, making it almost inedible. The donut was dry and stale, as if it had been sitting out for days—definitely not fresh. The biggest letdown, however, was the coffee. My latte was by far the worst I’ve ever had To make matters worse, the toilet was absolutely filthy, which only added to the overall disappointment. Given the number of great cafes in Harpenden, I wouldn’t recommend wasting time or money here. Thankfully, there are far better options in the area.

great staff and atmosphere however lately the upstairs is closed at least 2 hours before closing which is fairly inconvenient.

I’ve been back a few times the coffee is always fantastic, and I know staff are always trying there best but with dogs and walkers the floor can get dirty I can’t say any other coffee shop in harpenden manages this any better that takes dogs the service is well above the androids in most chains perhaps people need to remember there’s not always enough hands in any shop but I’ve always enjoyed my experience and also have always enjoyed the service

Rude abrupt staff member taking orders. Poor food and drink hygiene. Felt dirty.

Service not to bad tables and floor need to be cleaned. But the customer toilets dirty sink and floor were filthy all need to be cleaned on a regular basis

Poor hygiene seeing handling of the doggy water bowl and straight into touching food without washing their hands, the coffee used to be of good quality but recently fem to a Costa quality.

One word: Dirty The cutlery is dirty, plates are dirty, the tables are dirty... And the matcha latte and hot chocolate served in the dirty mugs were watery and bland. Avoid the ick and try one of the other 578 coffee shops in town...

Friendliest coffee shop in Harpenden, most comfortable place to work, great staff and good coffee

My favourite coffee shop amongst a town full of choices. Stop here almost everyday. High quality coffee beans and pastries. All the staff are friendly and even remember your name and order when you repeat visit. That is what good customer service means to me. I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area and would like a quality coffee with quality service and atmosphere.

It is a wonderful place to study with a lovely atmosphere and great service. Although the food options are limited, there is a good variety of cakes available. The toast is quite expensive but it looks good. It would be even better if there were more options available but the drinks and food they do have is delicious! I recommend the milkshakes and baguettes.

My staple place to go to get some work done or grab some coffee to go before I head into London. Service is always friendly and have had many lovely conversations with Lily! Pastries taste fresh and can’t resist one when I go in!

The porridge is absolutely shocking. Avoid it. The lady serving was coughing in her hands. She shouldn't handle the food with her hands. it's only hygiene.

This place is filthy. The staff don't clear or wipe down the tables. Every time we go in, we end up stacking up cups/plates and using our own wipes to clean the dirt off the tables. I know the staff aren't to blame for the disgusting mess that people seem to make, but they do need to be on top of it and make sure that the place in clean for others. The floor is worse than the tables.

Love the amount of seating and I highly recommend the cinnamon buns.

Best High Street coffee chain. The coffee is way better than the others, you have to go a long way to find significantly better coffee, in my opinion. Cake and food really good too. Quite a lot of seating, as there is an upstairs too.

Wonderful place to visit, quite busy but adds to the vibe, the best coffee around that's for sure. Will be much better when there is outside seating again. And the view of the road is nice first thing in the morning upstairs!

Disgusted with the over £4 drink and had probably just about 3 whole sips. Realised I had no more drink left because the cup was just full of ice. Shame on you Harris + Hoole to take money off customers like that with extremely poor value for money. Never going back again.

The day I went. They must have had a supply issue. Every item I asked for wasn't available. But I was still determined to make a purchase. Smashed avocado on toast with a latte. Plenty of seating..great seating. Relaxed atmosphere.

Went for a coffee in harpenden found this new cafeteria surprised it was a place where they served you coffee brought to the table might try there food service next time I'm in harpenden

Nice coffee but the place was grubby with food scraps and dog hair all over the floor and furniture. 5 minutes with a broom and brush could have rectified this

One of the worst tasting coffee's I've ever drunk. Ordered an Americano, I got a decaf dishwater. Not the staff's fault, they were pleasant, if a little distracted, the supplied coffee is just bad.

It's ok, the pastries and baked goods taste mass produced, service is alright, coffee was ok. All in all pretty average. Better choices for a coffee available close by.

The coffee and cakes were delicious, however service was sadly very slow and we felt more of an inconvenience than a customer. Hopefully this was just a bad day and things will improve.

Spent several lovely hours working in Harris and Hoole. I enjoyed 2 beverages (medium long black and chocolate chiller), both of which I would recommend. I also had an all day breakfast wrap for lunch which was delicious. Very big thanks to Ash and Nicole for wonderful service!

I went there today for the tea and toast they served me only one slice bread with tea and charged me £5.85 But few days back same order they have given me two slice and charged me £5.50. May they don't want me to go there very bad customer service. Never going back.

Great cafe, fab hot chocolate, friendly staff

This lovely cafe only recently opened but I always go here to chill in morning before work ,or just to have some me time the staff make it ,specially the 3 lovely ladies who were working this Sunday the 2nd :)

Busy cafe with assorted snacks, served by a charming "they/them". Brilliant avocado toast with a poached egg. Unadorned but swimming pool-sized flat white. Not the best croissants, kinda doughy. Small room at the back ideal to avoid the hustle and bustle. There's an upstair, too.

Very bad. In fact awful. Dirty considering only been open 2 months. Very dangerous slope deadly for someone unsteady on their feet or partially sighted. Ordered hot drink & teacake & went upstairs. Didn’t bring my order up! called my name & had to carry tray up myself & have arthritis in my neck arms & wrists. Disgusted. Sharpen up your act H & H! doubt go in again

Awful cold and stale egg on toast with an off egg. No response when I told took it back and told them . No offer of refund or even a sorry. Kids serving….where’s the management? Won’t be going back.

Really nice lunch stop. Dog friendly plus treats. Charming staff, loads of indoor (plugs with USB charging) and outdoor seating and clean facilities. We walked, but parking outside too. Two coffees, two packets of crisps, two toasties and one cake £22 hence lost one star (or is that the cost of living crisis in practice?!). Coffees and toasties were particularly excellent!

Amazing new coffee shop in Harpenden with plenty of seating and lovely staff!

Such a warm welcome from a lovely guy who even carried our tray upstairs for us! Great atmosphere which is lacking from most coffee shops in Harpenden. Delicious bakewell and coffee cake with a pot of tea, just the perfect spot for a catch up with an old friend. Enjoyed it so much agreed to make it a regular date.

Love this coffee shop I came in with some friends for a toastie and coffee and staff were so friendly and interior and seating areas are so nice - lovely place to work or study. They actually gave me a medium rather than a small which is good!!!

Have visited a Harris & Hoole previously But this one is much nicer staff were really friendly Reasonably priced and love the fact you can take dogs in! Had a very nice tea cake and my friend had poached egg on toast and both had a pot of tea Will definitely be returning!

Beautiful new coffee lounge in Harpenden! Lovely lovely staff and general atmosphere, very relaxed and friendly! There is upstairs seating too which is something new in a Harpenden coffee lounge, with sectioned seating areas giving a more private feel. Will defo be a regular spot! Great selection of cakes and drinks! Love it!!

Lovely coffee, kind and smiley staff - but it’s just a no for me if somewhere is overly dog friendly. Dogs at every table, mud all over the floor, just really unhygienic. I’d go back to take away but it definitely isn’t clean enough to sit in.

What can I say about Harris & Hoole apart from Absolutely Fabulous. 5 star customer service, especially to two members of staff Zac & Alice :) they were both exceptionally pleasant, very professional and very much a ' people's person'. Well done & thank you for this outstanding service.

A new addition to the High Street (Jan 2023) and one of a large chain so very much a template approach to everything, from decor to food & drink, which is a shame - the atmosphere is very ordinary. Coffee was no better than the other big chains and sadly, they also don't know the difference between a long black and an Americano. Understaffed for a very busy Sunday late morning as well so service wasn't great. E.g. countless dirty cups & plates on tables. Plenty of room for improvement.

Came in for a hot chocolate and a lemon muffin during the week and the quality was amazing, staff were super and interior so comfortable, clean and inviting. Have been back since to try more food and coffee! Will recommend.

Had brilliant service by Zac and Georgia on my recent visit. Coffee was prepared very well and I won't hesitate on coming back. They are a credit to the company. Thank you guys
