Harrington's Eel and Pie Shop in Wandsworth

There are many good places to eat in Tooting but it's just off the radar. Finally made a trip because of Harringtons pie mash which became a priority over Vermicelli. I'm so glad I tried it and it was certainly memorable especially the menu as liquor is spelt LICKER. The jellied eels were delicious and they were able to give me extra jelly on a half portion. The liquor was also comforting as you could taste eel in it as well.

This was our first visit to Harringtons, having heard great reviews from friends. We got a takeaway and I'm sorry to say that two out of the three pies we bought were burnt down one edge... not just pleasantly overcooked (I like a bit of dark brown!), but black burnt. I think when the pies are black burnt they should be thrown away, personally, but, who knows, maybe some people like them like that. We don't and so, sadly, won't be back.

I’m embarrassed to say but this was the first time I had been to a traditional pie & mash place in London. Really didn’t know what to expect so don’t know whether it was good or bad. Unfortunately they were out of eels when we visited. The pie tasted similar to a scotch pie. Probably because it’s lamb rather than beef? Plenty of chewy pastry too. I was expecting the licker to have a strong flavour but it was quite bland and inoffensive. I need to return to try the eels.

I've been praising this pie and mash shop and recommending it o people as the best in London for over 25 years. My last two visits have been disappointing. The first I put down as a one off, but they've clearly made a decision to cut down on the filling to save money. There was very little in the pies on my last two visits. Unfortunately, I won't be going back. Sad, as it's a nice family business that I was always happy to support.

I've been eating here since the early 80s. Best P&M ever!!! Love the place, the staff and the food. Shame it's been refurbished as I loved the old long benches, it had so much character. The food is still the same though so they are forgiven.

Came here to try the traditional pie, mash and licker (their spelling!), which cost around £5. The pie had a thin mince filling, the pastry was chewy and tasted like it had been either sat in a warmer for a long time or microwaved for two long. The mash was lukewarm and lumpy, and the licker had no flavour at all. Sadly we had to leave most of it. However, we are Northern, so the option of gravy instead of licker would have made a big difference to us! The main lady serving was lovely, but the younger boy with her was just stood on his phone sadly.

The pie was as tough as old leather and the inside (what you could find of it) was a thin coating of mince, the mash was so stoggy it had to be spooned onto the side of the plate. I will never know how it got such a high rating. I've tasted very much better. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Always delicious food served by very friendly staff. Myself and my brother always make a point to pop in for lunch whenever we are in the neighbourhood.

I cannot remember the last time I was in Harrington’s in Selkirk Rd, Tooting. I just had some delivered to Stonehouse, Gloucester, And the taste has not changed, it was still the same gorgeous flavour, quality. Brought back loads of memories, of when I used to go there regularly on a Saturday night with my dear mum. And if we did not eat in we used to have a take away, where you brought your own containers etc. To put the food in. It beats some of the other pie and mash I have tried in the past. Well done Harrington’s you made my day.

We heard Harrington’s were now delivering to Horsham and as regular customers when we lived in London we had to try and order . Well I would never of believed they would have came all the way to Horsham until this morning when our delivery arrived . It was packaged brilliantly and we wasted no time in tucking in . It was just how we remembered a taste you could never forget absolutely delicious. I would like to thank you Harrington’s for a much missed treat and we will most definitely be ordering again and spreading the word in Horsham Thank you so much 😊

Went there on a Saturday. Its the best pie mash in London. Beats Castles and Manzes hands down. Pies are always well cooked, almost burnt but that goes great with the liquor and mash. Mash is buttery and better than most high end restaurants I've been to! Washed down with a shandy bass, my daughter has to have the Cream soda... a perfect lunch!

Now this is what I am talking about accept no imitations this is the real deal a proper Londoners meals. Staff and friendly and the place is clean food is very tasty unlike some others still my favourite out of them all.

Al haber crecido en puré de tarta, tengo que decir que este es mi comida favorita de todos los tiempos. Un simple Misa del Gallo tarta, puré de patatas y licores hacer una sabrosa comida, y en mi humilde opinión Harrington es hacer lo mejor. Si quieres darte un capricho más probar sus estofado anguilas que son una absolutamente deliciosa delicadeza, pero hoy en día una cara. La 'tienda' (restaurante) está situado a unos pocos cientos de metros de estación de metro lo intentaría Broadway, es atendido por un personal amable y tiene filas de mesas sencillas que en el momento de nuestra visita estaba llena de cafeterías y otros haciendo fila para tiendas de comida para llevar. Mi primera introducción a Harrington era visitar su tienda en Wandsworth Road, que tiene una larga ya que han desaparecido, cuando me paseo allí la mayoría de días de entre semana para una ronda de pastel hecho en vez de comer en la escuela. para encontrar esta rama era puramente por accidente, y cómo tener nos pareció que tome cada oportunidad para tener una comida allí, así como llevando a casa un número de tartas y licores para el congelador.

This shop does not need recommendation if you were a Londoner, purely because we was all bought up on the pie, mash and liquor. its not fine dining or restaurant fayre but boy is it good... its like stepping back in time when you enter the shop. its food that you will eith love or hate.

Very much a local tradition and not for the faint hearted. This little shop is a fine place to stop off for a taste of London pie and mash. No airs and graces here just good honest food. Great value too!!

Siempre me dan allí cuando abre así que conseguir pasteles caseros calientes frescos directamente del horno y son deliciosos! descubierto en 1967 en unas vacaciones trabajo en el Reino Unido, Harringtons es a debe tener comida en cada visita regular a Londres. As a homesick Londoner I always try and find an opportunity to have pie & mash if I can slot it into my visit...still some good ones out there if you know where to go, but out of them all I have to say - this little back street gem is the best one in the world! The pastry is just perfect,mash and liquor so tasty and the meat in the pie has no gristle. Just so disappointed that the one in Wandsworth road is no longer there, leaving just the tooting shop remaining :( If you want to try pie & mash for the first time try harringtons as it is the best example of this traditional London meal, will fill you up and no leave you broke :) !

En un día frío wintry en lo intentaría tuve la suerte de encontrarme aparcado fuera de esta pequeña tienda pastel y puré. Yo tenía hambre y frío y decidimos darle una oportunidad. Es prácticamente un devuelva a los buenos tiempos de pastel, puré de patatas y licores. Hay tres mesas largas y sólo necesitas encontrar un lugar y comer.

Visitamos Harringtons semana pasada como un regalo para un anciano amigo mío. Las cosas no han cambiado. En los años sesenta se planteó en Fulham y pastel y puré tiendas parecía estar en todas partes, el local que Wandsworth Road (Arenas final). Parecía que mueren y, para ser sincero, no creo que haya tenido » tarta y puré adecuado para unos buenos 20 años desde la última aquí. Tenía tarta, puré de patatas y anguilas doble y sin duda no nos decepcionó cata igual que no todos estos años. El personal es muy amable. Si buscas plata o un menú a la carta, seguramente no es el lugar para ti, pero si ser londinense o ex-londinense y saber qué esperar, no lo suficiente. Si eres un turista, probablemente el mejor sitio en el que me conocen por una típica comida auténtica aunque la zona de los alrededores sin duda ha cambiado en los últimos años así que ve con una mente abierta.

It may be a dying breed in London but look hard enough and you'll unearth a no frills gem that don't try and fix what ain't broke. Like Harringtons. Look past the tiny back street shop that could maybe do with a lick of paint and instead revel in a plate of honest no nonsense traditional scran - the liquor in particular is the finest I've had and the meaty pie and real mash is none too shabby either - that leaves you with enough change for a couple of pints out of a tenner. Simply magnificent.
