Harlees in Poole

Ordered 2 loaded chips, one Mexican and one green menu curry and 2 kids meals. Food was lovely, worth the wait. Will be visiting on our holiday again next year!

Love how on TA you can review a Michelin starred restaurant in one review & a chippy in the next !!! So bare in mind 4* review is based on a chippy & not a posh nosh type restaurant. Queue was out of the door for takeaway service. We were thought quickly served. With queues like this obviously chips etc were all cooked fresh. Despite the recent negative reviews on here, we were both very impressed with the portion size, the way the chips were cooked & the fish cake was superb.

Took my daughter for chips today at the quay it was a bit disappointing the chips were very hard and tasted like they had been either re -heated or left around i would not say they were fresh at all.I was looking forward to trying this chip shop waste off money wish i had said something at the time. I even noticed that another customer had also ordered a regular chips which to my noticing his bag was much fuller to the top than my daughters!! i felt like were cheated even went i spent more at £ 14 not the highest quality you expect for a hot spot.

Too expensive and stingy size portion of floppy chips that just covered the bottom of the plastic tray. Very disappointing.

AVOID. AVOID. AVOID Harlees Poole Quay used to serve great food up until about 18 months ago when an Asian family took over the running of the shop. The chips are different, skin on. They no longer do chip cones so for a portion of chips £3.70 with fish is nearly £12. What a rip off . Chips tasted awful and the fish was overcooked. Never again will I go in there. Its a great shame as the place had a reputaion for great fish and chips. Next time I will go into one of the pubs for fish and chips at the same price. Also I think Harlees must have franchise their shops out, so the consistency of quality has gone.

Called in for a take away bite to eat. As some other reviews have said, the staff were somewhat blasé and / or disinterested. The chips were okay, but they don’t do buttered rolls but the curry sauce is very tasty.

The whole experience going here was a complete waste of money food not cooked properly the chips are Not good the staff aren’t very polite or welcoming save your money and go elsewhere

Went in here after a couple of drinks, had 2 haddock and chips. Both were cooked beautifully. Crispy batter and succulent fish inside. Chips also cooked just right. Would highly recommend

This is a lovely location, the staff are very friendly and helpful especially as I have a food allergy! The food was fresh, tasty and very well presented and cooked! The home canned sardines we brilliant. I would suggest booking a table as it gets very busy, but it is definitely worth a visit!

Went to the take-away. Daughter had the Garden Burger - said it was best she had ever had. I had some chillie cheese and chips, partner had loaded chips with bacon. All very good. BUT when went to pay after ordering it was card payments only. Will not return because of this. Could have been 4 star had it not been for this.

How can they get it so wrong! The piece of fish was desperately small, most of which unfortunately just greasy batter. I had expectations of white flaky pieces of fish, but instead what I was given amounted to over cooked and unenjoyable fish, encased in extremely greasy batter so I’m afraid I have to agree with the other negative reviews on here. The chips were average at best, and in my opinion should be served piping hot but instead were saturated in grease and lukewarm. Left feeling hungry. Such a shame they can not seem to get it right.

Cod full of grease. I complained to the man running the place and did not say sorry or offer to resolve the issue. Not good at all. i would never use them again.

What has happened to Harlee’s? Staff not particularly friendly, whereas they were always great. The quality of the fish was awful - not big flakes of cod and there was a hole in it. To top it all it was overcooked. Even the chips were not good. No paper serviettes out for customers. I would recommend it

Lazy staff, the chips were not fresh, they literally gave us the leftovers as they were not busy. The chips we had were a portion split into 2 and half were rotten potatoes. The cod was tasteless too. £24.50 for 2 regular cod which were tasteless with barely any chips, half of the chips we're not edible. We went before and it was awful but because nowhere else nearby was open we thought we would give them another chance. I'm a business owner and if this was my business I should not be in business.

We drove to Poole Quay and paid for parking having asked if the restaurant would be open earlier in the week. We were told yes. Got there in the pouring rain to find 3 or 4 youngsters in the takeaway who couldn’t be bothered even acknowledging us. I finally asked if we could go up to the restaurant to be told no it’s closed, no explanation just a grumpy reply as I’d disturbed their conversation. A real shame as we’ve always had lovely fish and chips here.

I bought a portion of cod and chips to take away. The cod was OK but rather small. The chips were pale and limp - you could hardly call them chips. Would never go back or recommend.

Takeaway medium cod is so small not worth the money. I would go to the weatherspoons for a cheaper cod and fish a much better portion

A bit of a windy day on Poe Quay and lots of shops closed, even our regular cafe. Not been to Harlees before. Asked if restraint was open, but young lady behind counter said sorry it was closed because of staff shortage. We still bought takeaway. The 2 ladies that were working were friendly and chatty. Came into Poole to watch the fireworks (Thursday) and booked to eat upstairs, there were empty tables but were unclean, asked the staff if they could take the old plates away and was replied with we are short staffed. We visited as a family for a takeout to eat on the wall outside by the harbour. We waited about 20 minutes but it was very busy so understandable. Firstly, this is not a cheap chip shop, even for a premium chip shop it's quite expensive. Firstly my order was incorrect, I asked for large fish and chips in a box together, but later received a large fish and a large bag of chips(this is the smallest large bag of chips I've ever seen). The fish was lovely, however possibly a tad greasey but I did enjoy it. Chips were OK, some were a little 'earthy' and had lots of eyes in them. The way they're served in a narrow upright bag makes it really difficult for the salt and vinegar to get to all of the chips too, so the chips at the bottom couldn't be seasoned at all. The biggest annoyance was probably the Ketchup however, 45p for a pot of what was probably the cheapest tasting Ketchup I've ever had, it was thin, watery and had an overpowering vinegar taste. I would possibly go back if in the area, only if I couldn't find another fish and chip shop though.

We paid a visit to Harlees, on a busy warm Sunday. Three of us all had takeaway Cod & Chips and we were impressed by the quality. The fish was particularly good, due to the busyness all items were freshly cooked and the batter on the fish was excellent.

We ate in the restaurant today, very tasty! All had cod and chips, very big portions and the cod tasted great. The onion rings were especially good, big homemade ones, would definitely recommend. The covid regulations were also very good in the restaurant and everything was very clean, the service was also excellent and friendly.

We ordered from harlees via their website this weekend and it was delicious! Food was piping hot and arrived on time (they also kept us up to date on delivery time via text message). Always guaranteed a tasty chippie tea from harlees on the quay!

Visited today food not up to usual standard, also staff stated that they did not know anything about discount offer leaflet that had been put through our door, so be aware voucher that clearly states Harlees and I date till December is not being honored.Frankly better food and value elsewhere.

Harlees is normally our go to fish and chip shop when in Poole, however today when we walked in most of the menu on the wall is taped over and blanked out, except for cod and chips. The staff could care less that we walked out, don't waste your time there are much better options locally, I cant understand why in these difficult times business owners aren't doing everything they can to keep their customers.

I have been to Hardee’s and always found the staff very polite and helpful, their products are always consistent and of great quality and taste. Samy the frier cooks to a very good standard and Balazs the Manager has great customer skills, an excellent team.Sad to see they are no longer making their homemade Tartar Sauce, now the weather is starting to get cooler it will be great to see the restaurant open again.Keep up your excellent work and will see you next week.

We spent our first weekend in Poole at the Dolphin Quays. we wanted fish and chips so decided to go to Harlees and sit on the wall out side. on entering the staff were friendly and the place was spotlessly clean and tidy all COVID 19 measures we adhered to, the food was out of this world freshly cooked to the extent we went back over to praise the staff with a massive THANK YOU !!!!! Had been away for the weekend in Somerset and travelling on the way home decided to stop at Poole. We were hungry and fancied some fish and chips. We were not disappointed, lovely fish excellent chips, very filling. Great pots of sauces, plenty of salt and a chip fork thrown in for good measure.

It’s an unwritten law you must have fish and chips at the seaside, you will have trouble beating the quality and freshness of Harlees. Cooked to order, you can’t go wrong.

Curry sauce very yummy. But beware of the thieving seagulls. They swoop down and steal your fish. Thanhs Harlees for your kind FOC replacement

Visiting Poole today and stopped off at the quay to look at the boats. It’s was lunch time so we popped to Harlees and got a box of chips to take out with lashings of salt and vinegar.We then sat by the water and munched on them.Have to say they were amazing!!!Highly recommend.Thank you.

We were visiting Poole Quayside and Harbour for the day and had noticed this restaurant when we had first entered the quayside. The place was clearly popular as there was a quite large queue. Initially we had not realised that the restaurant had seating inside and had purchased Fish and Chips to take away and eat at the quayside. The Fish and Chips were really tasty and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend a visit here.

Had to queue to order and pay, then wait outside until number called. Took a while , but well worth the wait to have freshly fried fish and chips cooked to order. Was surprised , as my hubby had ordered a pickled onion to go with his fish & chips , that it was given to us across the till counter in a paper bag when we paid. So had to stand outside for ages holding a pickled onion while we waited for the rest of the order.Would have thought they could have served it to us when being served with the rest of the order and put in the box. Sat on the wall across the road to enjoy eating them from the boxes.

I am not a curry sauce and chip fan, but after a drizzly day in Poole we decided to have some and we was not disappointed they were the best chips and curry sauce we have tasted and visited a couple times after. We will definitely return if in Poole again.

I have reviewed Harlees before and I still find the food really great, perfectly cooked fish and chips. Served in a box which makes it easy to eat from. But beware of the seagulls if you decide to sit at the quay and eat, one nearly got my husbands fish!! Obviously they know how good the fish is!!

We had booked a boat trip from Poole at half 6 and thought the best thing to do was get chippy for tea! You never wait long and we would be done and dusted with plenty of time to spare.We got to the chippy at 5:50 and put our order in - they had no garlic mayo which was disappointing as it was on their menu so not sure how they could have ran out.They also only had small haddock so we opted for regular cod and chips with mushy peas and curry.We got given a buzzer and sat on the wall outside, not expecting to wait long.We finally got our food at 6:15....So had about 5 - 10 mins to throw some chips down our necks!! Was NOT enjoyable rushing so we didn't miss our boat trip.....I had indigestion.The fish and chips were quite tasty - fish was nice and crispy but they are the worst mushy peas I have ever had!!!! It was like someone had boiled some peas and just mashed them with a fork! They just crumbled when you tried to put them on your fork!! Curry was also tasty enough but not the best I have had.So overall.....Not great. Wouldn't be rushing back.

I never order fish and chips but when in Rome and all that.... The best fish and chips I've ever tasted. Crispy batter and fresh fish, not soggy. The last bit was just as good as the first bite. Homemade chips were so tasty and the curry sauce was fantastically hot.. will be back before our week in Poole is over.
