Sunday evening... ordered on deliveroo... I only got the chicken chunks small chips, and curry sauce... all 3 were all lovely! Really impressed. Thank you Halfway :)

My friend and myself ordered large cod when I arrived home the cod was so thin it stuck to the crunchy batter. My friend phoned and started moaning about his fish that was non existing. It looked good until you opened it up just empty thin dry fish ,I've used this chippy before and no complaints but 9 quid for something that went in the bin ,I might as well burnt a 20 for my friend and myself

I don’t often write reviews- only for the best and worst places. I’m really sorry but I have to agree with the negative reviews here, which, in trying this place for the first time, I had hoped I would not. There was a decent wait for the food, given it was a Monday night, but that didn’t affect us. The main meals were all ok. However, the chips were, I’m sorry to say, some of the worst chips we have ever had as a family of four. They were packaged in bags and not the boxes promised. They didn’t smell good when I opened them up to serve (overused frying oil-the smell you expect from a doughnut place on the beach sometimes)…but what concerned me and put me off was the shiny grease all over the chips with no crispiness whatsoever…to the point that they were all stuck together. They were very expensive too (almost £5 for a large - we had that and a medium) but again, that’s ok if they taste good. Concerned about the fat level, I only tried a few of what was on my plate…they were terrible. Sloppy, greasy and tasteless. The children and my husband all said the same - and the kids and I have already got dodgy stomachs. I’m really sorry- I hate to leave a bad review. But the chips shouldn’t have even left the shop, let alone been served. Next time, I’ll bake my own in the oven….

Great prices, good quality food and lovely staff, they even gave us a free sausage for our dog. 🥰

Been using this chippy for years the last 3 times I've been in the food has been a let down so wont be using again. soggy chips or over cooked like they have been reheated. Not sure weather you have changed produced or the chefs. Maybe you need to have a look. So disappointed as loved your chicken nugget meal as my weekly treat

I got fish chips tonight and it was awful could eat chips as hard and now we are struggling with bad stomachs wouldn’t recommend

Ordered fish and chips through delivero, chips were missing when delivered, phoned shop they said chips were in bag and said nothing they can do driver must have done something he shouldn’t have. Order chips again if you want them. Been using the chip shop for years never again.

Firstly, service was terrible and lad serving made you feel it was an inconvenience to order. More importantly, chips were awful, over cooked with horrible taste which was reminiscent of the smell in the shop with very old chip fat. Sadly, it was not a good experience.

Not sure first visit but I would recommend it to anyone. Portions were generous and staff very polite. Place very clean, value for money

I genuinely couldn't recommend Halfway Fish Bar enough. They have the best chips that are cooked perfectly, their fish is always perfectly sized as are their portions and their meal deals are amazing value for money. The staff are always friendly and the two sets of twins who work here are legends! This place really does deserve to be well known. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

Fabulous fish and chips. Good value portions. Quick service. I was visiting from Malta, where I live these days, and was craving traditional fish and chips and this meal really fit the bill.

Generally not had many problems here and it is my local so visited often or had delivery. Last few occasions I've noticed the portion size has reduced from what used to be good value. Used to be able to split a kids meal between two however now they've barely got 10 chips between them and a lot of little crispy bits. Cheesy chips aren't even filling the bottom of the box and a lack of cheese compared to what I've had previously from here. Hoping it's just a few odd occasions and this isn't the way moving forward..

Overall, best chippy in Dorset the cheesy chips are an absolute banger and the burgers are great

Absolutely shocking service The girl behind the counter was more concerned about telling her colleague her life story Food sat waiting while serving people that had just walked in The guys that serve are normally excellent but you need to get rid of that girl ! Afraid to say we won't return now normally spend £20 twice a week they have now lost out on a good customer

Supposed to be award winning, if you look behind the counter it looks like a dumping ground stuff all dumped on an old frier and the place looks like it hasn't had a deep clean in years, I dread to think what it's like behind the partition wall. I had a jumbo sausage and chips £7.80 the sausage was was obviously the cheapest they could buy, no taste and very compressed, the chips were OK lots of small crispy bits (not edible), on leaving I'm surprised I didn't notice before going in all you can smell is old fat. Never to return !!!

What’s happened here ? It’s our local chippy. Always been generally good, fresh cooked etc. But the last few times have failed to impress . Tonight the fish tasted (and smelled) very less than fresh. All the staff were pleasant but inexperienced and what’s really put me off is that they were wearing grubby clothes, no aprons, no gloves. And bins were visibly overflowing. Yuk and double yuk. We won’t be going back until the senior management have made improvements. It was good to have a quick response from the owner but the bin I was referring to was a ‘food scraps’ bin in the food prep area - no lid and visibly full with waste.

My favourite fish and chip shop by far! Staff are always friendly, and you can preorder over the phone. More importantly though, the food is always fantastic!

2 weekends in a row that we ordered fish, coleslaw and mushy peas through Deliveroo and twice they didn't deliver mushy peas. So annoying and too coincidental

Can be a wait for food but at least you know it is freshly cooked. Main recommendation is the prices are good compared to other shops in area.

Unsure what has happened to this place always use to be a great service and great food. On 2 occasions we have called just gone 8pm to do collection when I finish work to pick up for the family to be told we have closer early not excepting orders. Google says 9pm they close, website no longer running real shame that they are turning business away but please update business hours if they are different.

Got medium cod and Chips special which had choice of sauces and a drink for £11.50. Choice of fish available. Great portion of chips and cod was lovely. Served in a bag which was manageable.

Was gr8 food lovely fish haddock we ordered ample size too much but only because we are small eaters ... we had spent the day in sandbanks and this chipshop less than 8 minutes away ... award winning status and standards that match 🙂

Great food Great prices but piss poor parking

Great little fish and chip shop. Free tar tar sauce. Friendly and delicious. Took two work colleagues and they were impressed. Can’t wait to return when in the area again

Really good fish and chips. Our kids loved the burger and sausage too. They had never eaten the curry sauce and fell in love with the tasteful small cup of it. The only thing missing from our takeaway was cutlery and tissues which was probably our fault for not picking them up. Highly recommended!

Had the haddock, fish was OK but the batter was like concrete. My partner ordered a saveloy which was cold, infact this is the 2nd time we've had a cold saveloy from here. Chips OK

Best chippy in the area, excellent portion sizes, fish is fresh, light batter and perfectly cooked. Chips are always crispy and never greasy!

Very disappointed, ordered a large cod, which was basically a medium cod covered in way too much batter. Also the oil tastes old, and judging by the way my heart beat has increased I can only guess hey are using hydrogenated vegetable fat. Will not be ordering again.

Very tasty freshly cooked fish and chips

Thanks so much. We were stopping over tonight and had driven six hours without food. A lovely delivery driver turned up called Francisco and delivered brilliantly cooked steaming hot delicious fish and chips. Our accommodation for the night was rubbish, our food made us feel 100x better. If you’re ever unsure of the difference you make just know you made two people feel comforted and happy tonight, thanks.

Can’t come to Poole without getting fish and chips, didn’t disappoint. Great service from the staff quality products and the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time.

Fabulous Steamed Cod! I was SO pleased to see this on Halfways Menu as a healthy choice! The fish was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly cooked , skin removed and well wrapped in foil. I have been a customer for many years and whatever I choose Halfway have NEVER failed me. It's great to have this option now and a positive move forward to accommodate different tastes. Thank you to everyone.

I was greeted by a lovely friendly man even though they were busy. Service ran very smoothly from what I saw and I received my chips quickly. I had 1 large and 1 small chips and both portions were huge, with a great amount of salt and vinegar. I will definitely be returning.

Nice food good value friendly service, I brought 3medium cod n chips after a long day on the beach, and it was perfect.

Prices are disgusting, £9 for a peice of fish. I understand prices have increased but Chez Fred is £9.50 for Cod, Chips and mushy peas so work that one out. Portion sizes are a joke as well now. Been ordering from here quite often but not anymore.

Had to call the shop about our order, the man I spoke to was beyond helpful and managed to sort everything out. The food turned up hot, it was freshly cooked and tasted amazing!

Food is very good but.. portion sizes are too small. Ordered a large chips, just enough for 2 portions. And the saveloys are the tiniest bit larger than a small sausage, whereas other chip shops they are the size of a jumbo sausage, charged the same price for this.

Best value fish and chips in the area - prices are going up though but imagine that is the same everywhere.

The food here is just wonderful & the staff so lovely too x Another visit today, the price has gone up as the price of Sunflower Oil has increased by 70%, it comes from Ukraine. Whilst it's awful what is happening there, we cannot afford fishxhips here now...x

Very generous portion sizes, a small cod here would be a large cod in most places. Same with the chip portions. Always nice food, never had a bad meal from here. Edit: Had 2 bad experiences with them in 2 weeks, advertising items they do not have and ruining my meal. Waste of money.

Seriously impressive fish and chips. The chips were large and crispy! The fish, not greasy whatsoever with a lovely and crispy coating. So many places get it wrong and everything is just dripping with oil. Will come again!

Firsh and chips was really delicious! Although I advice you to stop making the burgers because it's bloody gross. Worst than a dog food. If Gordon Ramsey seen this "burger" he would of cried with me. Because I nearly cried.

I always order from this restaurant and it’s usually perfect but tonight I have to say it was awful, fish overcooked chips awful an the food came through Deliveroo an was cold I had to Chuck it away I spent 20 pound on dinner an then had to start cooking for my family I called the restaurant an was told we are using new potatoes it’s all we can get hold of ? We don’t do refunds Deliveroo deal with this , I have e to say I’m disappointed with there response an Deliveroo too , there’s no where to leave a review on there service

Always very friendly and happy. Food is excellent and good portions And is always consistent every week when i go. I have tried all the other fish & chip shops locally but the halfway chippy is by far the best Here i am a year later still going to the halfway chippy, excellent service,nice happy and polite staff and great portions. What more can i say, Thankyou to all the staff and will see you all on my weekly Friday night fish& chips. Lovely.

Shockingly awful staff! The opening time is until 22:00. Went in there at 21:35 tonight(Friday 23rd of April 2021) to be met with a can’t be bothered attitude and told that they were closed.

We ordered food from here via deliveroo. Half the order, typically the bits the kids were having, were not delivered once we opened the package. My wife rang the fish bar, got extremely rude and abrasive staff, ‘well, you will have to take it up with deliveroo, then, won’t you!’ Etc. Whilst it could be the delivery mans fault, it would not have hurt them to be polite. All we were asking was confirmation of the order and making sure there had not been an issue at their end. By the way, there is no accountability via deliveroo either, they can credit you back but basically you have to reorder what you wanted in the first place. We have just shared 2 small portions of fish between a family of 4 rather than order again from these rude people. Pretty local to this place, have used a lot in the past, will not be using again.

Can't really fault it to be honest, everything was spot on (if you don't like too much salt, just ask, I forgot to so can't knock them for that). MASSIVE portion sizes, medium/regular was too big for me and I'm a big eater!

Very disappointed with my large cod, it was way overcooked, dried up and shrivelled inside the batter, inedible!

Once a week i buy fish n chips to take to an elderly relative. Its great this shop is open all day.. the staff are very polite and friendly and it is well organised. However.. the fish is always lovely.. the batter about 4 out of five is undercooked and not really that edible. The shop us popular so I can't understand why a few fish etc can't be cooked up crispy in readiness instead of cooking to order in 6 minutes..resulting in this soggy fish...shame

First time ordering from this restaurant... The food was fantastic, arrived piping hot and the fish was so incredibly crispy. The portion sizes are enormous....2 reg chips was way enough for 3 of us. Great value for money...We’ll definitely be ordering again. Thank you ☺️

Was a really great medium cod and chips and large for a regular portion of chips too . Really well battered cod . Stopped off and they fried it in a five minute period . Large portion of chips even for a regular portion . With pickled onion and soft drink was £8 all in . Well done 👏 Great fish and chips . The best I’ve had half way and friendly staff !!
